Several merchants have sold items for which gems could be inserted and removed using the PUSH and PULL verbs, respectively.

Joola is the most known of these merchants. One can tell an item is hers via ANALYZE, in which it will indicate the item is or can be unlocked.

Non-Feature Changing Jewelry (Joola's Jewels)

Any unscripted item could have Joola's jewel settings applied to it by Joola or Estefan, include jewelry, armor, and clothing. This would make the item scripted.

Joola's jewel settings can be unlocked for three additional verbs by Xerria on Mist Harbor.

Analyze

You analyze your orase runestaff and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.

The creator has also provided the following information:
This item can be altered to have a LONG and a SHOW, but the show must accommodate either an inserted gem or an empty socket anywhere the gem is to be mentioned.

The merchant can also change the way the gem is attached. For example, you can have:
   capped by (a gemstone)
topped by a carved (gemstone) heart
set with a series of (gemstone) studs

This item is currently set as follows:
Description with no gem inset: a sanded orase runestaff capped by a claw-ensnared orb
Description with a gem inset: a sanded orase runestaff capped by a claw-ensnared gemstone orb
Custom show description: A series of gemstones spiral up the runestaff, culminating at the head with a single, oversized gemstone caged in a grasping claw.

This orase runestaff is unlocked. You sense you can CLEAN, POKE, and TILT it while a gem is inserted.

You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the orase runestaff for you.
