Summary

  • [[::Cyph Kestrel|Cyph]] chats with people and seems increasingly unable to remember things
  • Quinshon arrives and says, after being asked about Cyph, that he's dying, the body is rejecting the mindgraft, nothing can be done about it, and Dennet has been informed
  • Quinshon tells the group his real reason for coming out was to speak about the Talon, which he says he'll take from Dennet after he's done using it in the Bleaklands; he makes clear that he's not asking for permission
  • Quinshon says he wants the Talon to aid against the rise of the Blood God (Grishom Stone) and his Emerald Sun (Star of Khar'ta)
  • The Bleaklands trip is set for next Feastday

After all of this, there was some very lengthy discussion among most of the regulars about who to trust, whether to help any specific party get hold of the Talon (including Rodnay, who doesn't even want it, or keeping it in the Landing), the destabilizing effect of the Talon, political repercussions, why Quinshon called Bekke "Lightbringer," the roles of Teuriz or Grishom Stone in all of this, and more.

I might or might not edit that at some point and post it. For now I'll just pull this one line because it's funny:

Zosozpage whispers to the group, "So our options are bad, worse and catastrophic."

Lost Cyph

[Cyph greets everyone on the amunet, then without saying anything more heads to Town Square East some minutes later]

[Town Square, East]

Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night.

Cyph glances at the Moot Hall.

Cyph says, "Evening."

Cyph waves.

Ysharra says, "Evening, Lord Cyph."

Cyph peers quizzically at Ysharra.

Ysharra asks, "How was your Volnes training?"

Cyph says, "Ysharra, yes, Ysharra, hi."

Cyph smiles.

Ysharra says, "That's me."

Ysharra nods at Cyph.

Cyph asks, "Volnes training?"

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "Twice for good measure."

Speaking measuredly to Cyph, Leafiara says, "Say, I've been wondering something, since you thought you hadn't sent the flowers..."

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "Yes, you were in a hurry to get to it. On Tilimares."

Speaking curiously to Cyph, Leafiara asks, "Did you send them with a... poem?"

Ysharra grins at Cyph.

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra asks, "I'm teasing, of course. How are you?"

Cyph nods to Leafiara.

Cyph says, "I did."

Leafiara evenly says, "Ah... alright."

Cyph says, "Oh...yes, it was good. Sorry, they must all blur together."

Cyph nods at Ysharra.

Cyph says, "Training that is."

Speaking to Cyph, Hapenlok asks, "How goes it with the training?"

Cyph says, "Good I think."

Cyph nods at Hapenlok.

Cyph asks, "Is the Mayor about this evening?"

Cyph says, "I had something to ask him."

Cruxophim suddenly fades into view.

Speaking affably to Cyph, Cruxophim greets, "Evening, Cyph."

Cyph says, "It's like magic."

Cyph chuckles.

Cruxophim tosses a knowing glance toward Cyph, taps his nose, and then points at him.

Cyph says, "Forgive me, I don't know the formalities here, I was never good with politics back home."

Cyph says, "I'd like to seek information on becoming a citizen of Wehnimer's Landing. If, well, if you think that's okay to pursue."

Leafiara surprisedly asks, "You're a member of the militia but not a citizen yet?"

Leafiara asks, "Or at least training with them?"

Speaking affably to Cyph, Cruxophim assures, "Seems fine to me. I did already put the paperwork through, so hopefully that will go through."

Cyph says, "I'm not a member of the militia yet."

Cyph looks intensely uncomfortable for a moment.

Cyph asks, "You did?"

Cyph peers quizzically at Cruxophim.

Cruxophim nods at Cyph.

Cyph asks, "Right...now?"

Cyph peers quizzically at Cruxophim.

Cyph says, "I just..."

Cruxophim bursts out in loud, raucous laughter at Cyph.

Cyph says, "I'm confused...."

Cyph asks, "Did Naimorai tell you?"

Cyph says, "I had mentioned it to her briefly."

Speaking to Cyph, Kayse reminds, "It was mentioned a few weeks ago when you first expressed your interest in joining the militia."

Cyph glances at Kayse.

Speaking concernedly to Cyph, Cruxophim soothes, "You do not remember?"

Cyph says, "Oh yes...."

Cyph looks around awkwardly and says, "Oh yeah..that's right..." with absolutely little to no confidence.

Speaking to Cyph, Madmountan says, "Maybe you should start keeping a journal. I hear that helps."

Speaking brightly to Cyph, Cruxophim enthuses, "I knew it'd come to ya."

Madmountan chuckles to himself.

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra asks, "All right?"

Cyph frowns at Ysharra.

Cyph nods.

Cyph slowly empties his lungs.

Cyph frets.

Cyph looks like he wants to say something.

Cyph says, "I lied, I'm sorry Mayor."

Cyph says, "I did not remember asking before."

Cyph frowns.

Speaking gently to Cyph, Cruxophim explains, "Quite alright, lad. But yes, I did request a specific provision for citizenship for you. These things normally take time and a lot of littering for some reason, but hopefully that will expedite it."

Cryheart says, "We all forget at times."

Cyph says, "It's been happening a lot."

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "Lying because you don't want to concern people or bother them...well, it's not the same as deception."

Ysharra nods at Cyph.

Leafiara looks thoughtfully at Ysharra.

Leafiara stares off into space.

Leafiara glances down.

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "Except, of course, that you lose out on an avenue of help and empathy."

Ysharra nods at Cyph.

Speaking thoughtfully to Cyph, Cruxophim murmurs, "Are you finding yourself forgetting things, or... having difficulty forming new memories?"

Cyph asks, "How far can I leverage empathy?"

Cyph smiles and winks at Leafiara, flirting.

Speaking flatly to Cyph, Leafiara says, "Well... if you put it that way... not at all."

Cyph says, "Forgetting things, primarily."

Leafiara furrows her brow.

Cyph nods at Cruxophim.

Speaking cautiously to Cyph, Hapenlok asks, "....have you ....seen Naimorai around lately?"

Cyph says, "The other night..."

Cyph says, "Or...two..."

Cyph rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Cyph says, "Last week sometime if I recall..."

Cyph looks around for a moment, briefly startled, as if seeing the area and many faces for the very first time. He blinks and looks normal again.

Speaking cautiously to Cyph, Leafiara inquires, "What's the last thing you remember?"

Cyph rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Cyph says, "The snow."

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "Hard to miss it right now. Beautiful."

Speaking to Cyph, Evia says, "Madmountan over there had a fair idea for you. Keep a journal."

Evia smiles.

Cyph says, "Yes, I think I should."

Cyph says, "My sister keeps one."

Cyph asks, "Why shouldn't I?"

Madmountan says, "It works."

Madmountan says, "You can read it when you feel forgetful."

Cyph asks, "Read what?"

Madmountan cackles!

Madmountan says, "Unfortunately...."

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "I have one I haven't used yet, if you'd like to have it."

Madmountan says, "He has to remember that he wrote in the journal."

Madmountan says, "For that to work."

Cyph asks, "Have one of what?"

Cyph peers quizzically at Ysharra.

Ysharra removes a dark silk-wrapped journal from in her supple leather haversack.

Ysharra says, "One of these."

Cyph exclaims, "Oh yes!"

Cyph blushes a glowing shade of red.

Cyph says, "Yes please."

Ysharra offers Cyph a dark silk-wrapped journal.

Cyph accepts Ysharra's silk-wrapped journal.

Ysharra removes a thin white raven feather quill from in her grey tapestry hip-satchel.

Cyph indicates his silk-wrapped journal with a smile.

Ysharra offers Cyph a thin white raven feather quill.

Cyph accepts Ysharra's raven feather quill.

Ysharra says, "From Munin herself."

Ysharra glances at a snow white raven.

Cyph put a thin white raven feather quill in his silk-wrapped journal.

Cyph says, "Thank you."

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "Her name means Memory."

Cyph put a dark silk-wrapped journal in his dark leather pack.

Cyph says, "Fitting."

Speaking to Cyph, Ysharra says, "Perhaps she will help impart some to you."

Ysharra nods at Cyph.

Madmountan asks, "Is it possible the transfer is regressing? Deteriorating?"

Madmountan shrugs.

Cyph says, "I will be fine."

Cyph says, "I've just been working hard, training hard."

Cyph says, "Some sleep will do me good."

Cryheart says, "It will do ye a whole lot of good."

Cryheart nods at Cyph.

Cyph nods.

Cyph says, "Thank you again for the journal."

Cyph says, "Goodnight everyone."

Cyph sticks his tongue out and manages to catch a snowflake on its tip!

Cyph exclaims, "Yes!"

Cyph says, "Got one."

Cyph winks.

Cyph waves.

Cyph begins to walk south, but then stops, looks around, and heads east.

Quinshon's Claim: Cyph is Dying

Shadows peel away from the side of Moot Hall and Quinshon emerges silently from them.

Quinshon's greyish-green veil ripples slightly as he exhales a breath.

Speaking slowly to Quinshon, Leafiara inquires, "Do you know anything about his condition?"

Speaking evenly to Quinshon, Raelee says, "... Quinshon."

Leafiara clarifies, "Cyph, that is. He did just leave that way."

Leafiara points east.

Quinshon nods at Raelee.

Quinshon nods to Leafiara.

Quinshon quietly says, "Cyph is dying."

Leafiara frowns.

Telum says, "We all are."

Telum shrugs.

Quinshon quietly asks, "Are we?"

Quinshon peers quizzically at Telum.

Telum says, "Well I mean."

Telum says, "Eventually sure."

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra asks, "Is he losing himself?"

Quinshon nods at Ysharra.

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra asks, "Fading from the reanimated body?"

Quinshon quietly says, "In time, his mind will depart from the vessel."

Speaking to Quinshon, Deckits asks, "An interesting conundrum.. do you believe the body will die, if the mind reverts? or would the boy become alive again?"

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra says, "I was afraid of that. It sounded like he was deteriorating in front of us."

Leafiara absently wonders, "Does Dennet know this?"

Subarashi asks, "So the transfer was less successful than it first appeared?"

Quinshon quietly says, "It is unfortunate that the mindgraft did not keep with the body, but it has rejected it."

Quinshon quietly says, "I have warned the Grand Magister of such this very night."

Speaking thoughtfully to Quinshon, Cruxophim wonders, "Would another transfer resolve this, or has that candle burned out already?"

Quinshon quietly says, "Whether he wishes to believe so, is another matter entirely."

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra says, "His old body is not going to work, either, what part of it is left."

Quinshon looks over at Cruxophim and shakes his head.

Speaking grimly to Quinshon, Cruxophim laments, "I feared as much."

Quinshon quietly says, "The body will revert to its former status of death."

Quinshon nods at Deckits.

Speaking to Quinshon, Zosozpage asks, "Is there absolutely nothing that can be done?"

Quinshon quietly says, "His old body is no more."

Speaking to Quinshon, Evia asks, "Excuse me, in your estimation, shall this said rejection affect the retention of new memories, always?"

Quinshon nods at Zosozpage.

Xorus darkly jokes, "The flaws in choosing the wrong corpse."

Quinshon quietly says, "No."

Quinshon looks over at Xorus and shakes his head.

Quinshon quietly says, "The flaws in choosing a corpse."

Quinshon quietly says, "Life is best connected by life."

Quinshon glances at Evia.

Quinshon quietly says, "He may acquire new memories, for now."

Speaking bluntly to Quinshon, Cruxophim inquires, "Would a transfer work into a living body, at this juncture? Or are we past that horizon as well?"

Quinshon quietly says, "We are beyond that."

Speaking to Quinshon, Shinann asks, "So, Cyph's essence, will it just fade?"

Quinshon quietly says, "Correct Shinann."

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra asks, "Are you saying this is fatal?"

Quinshon quietly says, "Correct."

Speaking curiously to Quinshon, Raelee asks, "... why are you announcing this so publicly?"

Quinshon peers quizzically at Raelee.

Quinshon quietly asks, "Is that not custom in this town?"

Quinshon just entered the Moot Hall.

[the group follows]

[Moot Hall, Great Lobby]

The great lobby is quite spacious, with an oak bannister wrapping around a staircase leading to the second story of Moot Hall. The wall are draped in rich tapestries framing niches that hold marble busts of local dignitaries. To the north is a double door, and to the west, a mahogany door bearing a silver plaque. A carpeted pathway leads toward the Debt Collector's Office.

Speaking to Quinshon, Raelee says, "... not what I meant at all."

Quinshon quietly says, "The only measure of comfort I can bring is to escalate the process."

Speaking carefully to Quinshon, Cruxophim wonders, "Escalate... how."

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra asks, "Have you been doing that?"

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra asks, "Already?"

Kayse bluntly asks, "Isn't this more of a Dennet and Reannah decision than the misfits and citizens of Wehnimer's Landing?"

Quinshon quietly says, "Sever his mind more quickly. But his loss of memory is not painful. Only confusing. I am sure he would choose to live how long that he can."

Quinshon quietly says, "No, I have not."

Quinshon glances at Ysharra.

Speaking wryly to Kayse, Cruxophim agrees, "Well, yes."

Cruxophim looks thoughtfully at Quinshon.

Zosozpage says, "The point of life is to live as long as you can."

Cruxophim nods absently at Zosozpage.

Quinshon grins at Cruxophim.

Cruxophim flashes Quinshon a toothy grin. [note: I assume this quick exchange was about something whispered, but I left in surrounding context just in case it's about what Kayse or Zosozpage said]

Quinshon quietly says, "I have done all I can. I have have told the Grand Magister."

Quinshon quietly says, "But I have not come because of Cyph."

Speaking to Quinshon, Desreth says, "What did Dennet say when you told him? If you don't mind."

Quinshon quietly says, "I was merely commenting upon the question posed to me."

Quinshon quietly says, "The Grand Magister is a man of his own beliefs and often adheres to whichever suits him at times."

Quinshon nods at Desreth.

Quinshon quietly says, "I can appreciate the pain a father may feel when faced with the absence of a child."

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra asks, "You have known him a long time, then?"

Quinshon quietly says, "He is likely in denial."

Quinshon quietly says, "It does not take me long to know someone well, Ysharra."

Speaking mildly to Quinshon, Bekke asks, "And you don't ever give him a nudge in a particular direction every now and then?"

Quinshon grins slowly. [note: unclear whether this is a response to Bekke, a continued response to Ysharra, or both]

Quinshon quietly asks, "Shall we move to your office, Mayor?"

Speaking pleasantly to Quinshon, Cruxophim agrees, "Of course."

Quinshon's Plans with the Talon

[Moot Hall, Mayor's Office]

At the varnished modwir door, a red bear skin rug stretches across the polished hardwood floor. Twin velnalin hide chairs face the Mayor's pine desk, while behind it sits an incurvated bone armchair. A great stag's head and a dark-framed sketch are mounted above a cobblestone fireplace set into the western wall. Refreshments are offered atop an oak bar beside a tall arched window.

Quinshon arrives, his burnoose moving about slightly like living, breathing shadows.

Speaking politely to Quinshon, Cruxophim offers, "Please do make yourself at home."

Quinshon nods at Cruxophim.

Quinshon agrees with Cruxophim.

Shinann frowns.

Quinshon glances at a great stag's head.

Cruxophim looks away, his glance deliberately unfocused.

Cruxophim flashes a quick grin.

Quinshon quietly says, "Interesting."

Quinshon nods at Cruxophim.

Quinshon glances at a great stag's head.

Shinann says, "We are not even here for this conversation. Except physically."

Quinshon peers quizzically at Shinann.

Speaking affably to Quinshon, Cruxophim asks, "Once belonged to former Mayor Walkar, perhaps you've heard of him?"

Quinshon quietly says, "On the contrary."

Quinshon quietly says, "You are all invited to this conversation."

Speaking abruptly to Quinshon, Kayse asks, "Why are you here then?"

Quinshon quietly says, "The Talon of Toullaire."

Speaking flatly to Quinshon, Kayse says, "Funny, I was just thinking about that."

Speaking simply to Quinshon, Kayse requests, "Let's cut to the chase. Why do you want it?"

Quinshon quietly says, "I am not here to teach you of history or distract you with flower words."

Quinshon quietly says, "I will acquire the Talon to aid against the rise of the Blood God and his Emerald Sun."

Xorus says, "Fascinating."

Cryheart asks, "Blood God and Emerald Sun?"

Stormyrain asks, "Emerald Sun?"

Speaking to Quinshon, Shinann asks, "Stone?"

Quinshon quietly says, "Yes, Grishom Stone."

Speaking to Cryheart, Stormyrain says, "The blood god is Grishom, most certainly."

Xorus says, "The Star of Khar'ta."

Speaking absently to Quinshon, Cruxophim wonders, "What do you know of this... 'Blood God', and Emerald Sun."

Leafiara clarifies, "How would it aid?"

Madmountan asks, "What is the Emerald Sun though?"

Rozy says, "Is Star."

Quinshon quietly says, "I am not here to educate."

Quinshon quietly says, "When the Grand Magister has completed his work, I shall depart with the Talon."

Speaking to Quinshon, Ysharra says, "It seems to me you were motivated to come speak with us tonight. For which we're grateful."

Quinshon quietly says, "Given the most recent developments of its existence coming to light, I felt now was the time to inform you."

Speaking to Quinshon, Hapenlok says, "See, that's the problem. How can we believe you? It's not like it's a deep secret that Grishom is one of our oldest foes."

Quinshon quietly says, "I am not asking your permisson or seeking your trust."

Quinshon nods at Hapenlok.

Speaking to Quinshon, Hapenlok says, "For all I know, you could be one of his many thralls looking for the damned thing."

Ysharra asks, "What were you doing with Rodnay?"

Quinshon quietly says, "I am not at liberty to discuss things at this time."

Quinshon nods at Ysharra.

Quinshon quietly says, "I will entrust the Grand Magister to divulge that information when his time is right."

Bekke mildly says, "I really don't think allowing someone known as the Black Shaman to take possession of something so powerful is a good idea."

Quinshon quietly says, "I am not asking you to form a committee for approval Lightbringer."

Quinshon nods at Bekke.

Speaking to Quinshon, Bekke says, "I'm telling you no."

Speaking absently to Bekke, Cruxophim notes, "Lightbringer?"

Leafiara mouths, "Lightbringer?"

Bekke narrows her eyes.

Bekke asks, "And, how do you know about .. that?"

Quinshon grins at Bekke.

Quinshon's greyish-green veil ripples slightly as he exhales a breath.

Speaking carefully to Quinshon, Kayse asks, "Does Dennet know why you want the Talon?"

Quinshon quietly says, "The Grand Magister intends to return to the Bleaklands next Feastday evening, for those who wish to accompany."

Quinshon quietly says, "The Grand Magister has never requested why I seek it."

Speaking to Quinshon, Madmountan asks, "I'm curious. Has he promised to willingly give you the Talon when he's done with it, or are you just taking it, regardless?"

Quinshon quietly says, "Either will occur."

Quinshon nods at Madmountan.

Quinshon quietly says, "There is life in shadows."

Quinshon quietly says, "Creation in the dark."

Ysharra says, "We saw some of that in the shadow plane, I suppose."

Quinshon quietly says, "Whatever you think I am, or think of me, I am blood of the shadow and life in the dark. The Blood God will claim all."

Quinshon quietly says, "It has begun in the land of my birth, but it will not stay there."

Quinshon nods at Ysharra.

Quinshon nods.

Quinshon quietly says, "Good evening."

Speaking to Quinshon, Shinann asks, "And you are not concerned about Dennet using it?"

Quinshon peers quizzically at Shinann.

Quinshon quietly asks, "Dennet using the Talon?"

Speaking to Quinshon, Shinann says, "You said when he was done with it."

Quinshon quietly says, "He will make use of it, briefly. No more would be permitted."

Quinshon nods.

Quinshon steps back, melting into the shadows until he is completely gone.
