Synopsis

Darkstonian settlers are spotted preparing the foundations for the campsite walls, so some Landing adventurers go to see. Samfelt and future Baron Elidal arrive, the former meeting the latter and introducing himself. Elidal offers gratitude for the forge raid and asks Perigourd if the barony can expect his aid again building the walls, and he says yes. (OOC note: I assume the reason for the question is that he had led or at least heavily participated in building the defense towers.) Meanwhile, Lady Aronia intends to perform a ritual in coming days.

Commander Sablo arrives and Elidal confirms with him that he went to the forge despite being ordered otherwise. Sablo recounts that he went to burn the farms after the primary mission was accomplished and Elidal says their people would have been butchered if Gnul attacked the camp during the raid; Sablo says that didn't happen and Councilors Kayse, Vaemyr, and Kiyna say Gnul attacked the Landing instead.

Sablo says he did what was required to accomplish the overall mission, as the battle doesn't end with Gnul and the sooner he's handled, the sooner they move to the next phase. Elidal says he's received several communications about Sablo's behavior, which he describes as "savagery," although one voice--later revealed to be Lady Iliyaas--also spoke in his favor.

Nonetheless, Elidal says Sablo won't be present for the end of Gnul and will never disregard his command again unless he wishes to be sent to toil in the mines of Kragsfell. He sends Sablo away to Riverwood, not to return until Charlatos as he'll personally ensure the safety of an important caravan arriving. He says his action doesn't diminish Sablo's contributions that he's thankful for, and he'll remain Commander and be welcomed back in Charlatos. Sablo says he assures protection of the caravan, then departs since Elidal already had his things prepared.

Afterward, Kayse asks if Elidal's given consideration to assistance with Captain Bodohal. He has and wishes to speak with Mayor Thadston, then gets confirmation from those gathered that Magister Remuliad is in danger and says they'll need a good plan and perhaps he'll dine with the Captain in the near future; Ulfwine affirms that Bodohal expressed interest in meeting Elidal. Magister Raelee says retrieving the Heart of Jaston is even more important than Remuliad, but Elidal says they can do both.

Elidal and Samfelt go to chop trees as many accompany them, but a glowing blue light appears in the distance. Eventually a minotaur warrior approaches, surrounded by a sickly blue glow as it stumbles forward. It clutches its stomach and something moves inside it, then specks of light seep up out of its eyes. It bellows and blue plinite erupts from its gut. People speculate that Gnul's experimenting on them, then the minotaur eventually collapses and gets consumed by cerulean flames. Elidal asks Raelee what happened and she surmises that the minotaur's body wasn't strong enough to sustain the reaction within; he asks what body would and Vaemyr says maybe trolls could regenerate the damage incurred.

Raelee mentions being reminded of Dennet's work experimenting on people with plinite and finds herself speculating if Gnul somehow had information on his processes. Elidal asks who could help Gnul; Irval says Rooks, but Elidal questions if they're truly that calculating and Kelfyr says it wasn't them since Gnul is attacking the town they defend. Elidal says he does find it hard to imagine a stone giant is this calculating, but Raelee says he has a source and Missoni asks who he would have told; Raelee at last says Grand Magister Octaven and Elidal says he doesn't know much about her and will need to meet with Larsya soon.

Awaiting Elidal

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Snowyetis disk, a black-masked wolf, the Kisun disk, the Gonzy disk, a candy-coated rat-on-a-stick, the Kiyna disk, the Kelfyr disk, a grizzled porcupine, the Saiteari disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, some manna bread, a fluffy white cat, the flaming Nairena disk, a white-eyed air wyrdling, the web-draped Missoni disk, a lazy wild dark crimson dog, the Budroux disk, the Valdorin disk, a green-eyed white kitten, the Peche disk, the Aerbax disk, the Mordus disk, the Tevlesh disk, a large acorn, the Allow disk, the Broadfuguis disk, a large acorn, a large acorn, a large acorn, a large acorn, a scratched ring, a large acorn, some tattered cloth, an old well, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Speaking drunkenly to a black-masked wolf, Gutstorm slurs, "Me am a breasht dwarf meshelf."

A black-masked wolf exclaims, "Donuts!"

You notice Gutstorm slip into a hiding place.

Gutstorm comes out of hiding.

Gutstorm starts jumping around like a twelve-year-old.

Speaking to Gutstorm, Kelfyr says, "Maybe behind the tree would be a better hiding spot."

The black-masked wolf barks loudly at a pale-faced coppery barn owl.

Mourdeyan says, "Home."

Xorus says, "All this traveling back and forth between east and west."

Speaking to a black-masked wolf, Pukk says, "Don't mess with the Owly. He can beat you with both wings tied behind his back."

Xorus says, "It risks accidentally unleashing a demon in Illistim lands."

Settlers from the imperial camp brave the cold, pulling heavy carts and wagons full of logs and other wood framing. The sound of hammers ring out near the camp as several wooden foundations are established throughout the camsite.

Lylia says, "If I had forgotten my chalk, it would have been a terrible ordeal."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Oh dey buildin da wall."

Alosaka says, "Alright, heading to the campsite in a moment to check on that ruckus."

A black-masked wolf says, "He's all smug flying around."

Gonzy says, "Oh."

Pukk says, "Ooh good. Camsites."

Mourdeyan asks, "Around the camp?"

Alosaka says, "Happy to bring folks along."

Perigourd says, "Looks like they set the posts."

A bolt of lightning streaks down from the sky and strikes Pukk!

... 25 points of damage!

Nasty shock to left arm stiffens joints. Nice and painful.

He is stunned!

A tremendous crack of thunder follows instantly!

Vaemyr says, "Wonder if those are their palisades."

Earthdiver says, "Windy."

Alosaka says, "And off we go."

Pukk recites:

"Everybody join Vaemyr!"

A black-masked wolf says, "Do it again."

Earthdiver says, "Snow lightning. That's not very common."

[General] Elidal thinks, "Good evening."

[General] Alosaka thinks, "Lord Elidal, good evening. We are pleased to see the foundations of the new wall coming along."

[General] Tikba thinks, "Good evening, Elidal."

[General] Alosaka thinks, "We are admiring the new foundation by the bonfire, where it is most well lit and perceptible through the snows."

[General] Elidal thinks, "Ah, good! I am glad to hear the foundations have been prepared. I shall check them out shortly."

[General] Elidal thinks, "The bonfire sounds good."

[General] Gutstorm drunkenly thinks, "Dish da besht time to bury an elf or three....hunnerd."

Earthdiver says, "I hope you are feeling better tonight."

Speaking to Lylia, Alosaka asks, "Do you suppose any Faendryl sorcerers have given thought to bottling little bits of winter, for use during the summer as relief?"

Speaking to Samfelt, Kiyna says, "I hope you found your supper. After losing it last night."

Missoni cheerfully greets, "Lord Elidal."

Xorus says, "But if the winter is death, and the spring is birth, the irony of spring is that it increases those who love winter most."

Elidal grins.

Samfelt deeply says, "Glad to see you all here. We have our work cut out for us... oh Lord Elidal."

Samfelt turns to face Elidal.

Elidal says, "Good evening all."

Samfelt bows to Elidal.

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "Evening Eli."

Elidal grins at Samfelt.

Elidal says, "I have seen you before."

Elidal nods at Samfelt.

Speaking to Alosaka, Lylia says, "That would be a wizard's purview, but I would not doubt it."

Elidal says, "Around here, working tirelessly in the cold."

Elidal says, "You are better than me."

Elidal chuckles.

Samfelt deeply says, "I'm just another face in the crowd m'Lord. Here to do honest work."

Pukk says, "Somebody is watching us."

Elidal asks, "What is your name?"

Elidal peers quizzically at Samfelt.

Samfelt deeply says, "Samfelt. I am from Vornavis."

Elidal says, "Ah, well met Samfelt."

Elidal nods.

A black-masked wolf exclaims, "Snake!"

Elidal turns to face the others present.

Elidal says, "You are all worthy of my utmost gratitude."

Elidal says, "I am to understand the forge raid was overall a success."

Tikba agrees, "Yes."

Ulfwine says, "So long as we don't all develop the pox."

Missoni carefully says, "Yes, the mission was well accomplished."

Alosaka says, "It was an effort that only succeeded thanks to the efforts of everyone who worked together."

Elidal nods at Alosaka.

Mourdeyan says, "Evenin Lord Elidal."

Elidal says, "Indeed. Our people make an effective team together."

Elidal grins at Mourdeyan.

Elidal says, "Evening."

Lylia says, "Perhaps you heard more about it from Commander Sablo too."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "We certainly succeeded in destroying the forges, even with the uhh... surprise near the end."

Elidal says, "I have not yet spoken to Commander Sablo."

Elidal says, "I sent word to speak with him. I expect him this night, perhaps."

Tikba mildly says, "Yes, no doubt you will have much to discuss."

Alosaka says, "Councilor Tikba's heroic efforts saved many of us toward the end, when things seemed most dire."

Elidal says, "...so I have heard."

Elidal grins at Tikba.

Elidal says, "That is well to hear. Thank you Tikba."

Samfelt turns to Tikba and cheers!

Tikba smiles at Elidal.

Speaking drunkenly to Tikba, Gutstorm slurs, "Yoo git promoted?"

Samfelt deeply says, "We certainly need brave people helping us right now."

Tikba demurs, "We must all help each other. That is all I did."

Speaking to Alosaka, Kayse asks, "Since when is she a councilor?"

Elidal asks, "Can we expect your aid again Perigourd, with the walls?"

Elidal smiles at Perigourd.

Speaking amusedly to Alosaka, Tikba says, "Look what you have done."

Alosaka says, "Ah, apologies."

Speaking to Samfelt, Ulfwine says, ""you came with us last night."

Alosaka says, "Lady Tikba."

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "I expect many here will lend their axe and labor."

Elidal nods at Perigourd.

Ulfwine says, "Always up for more chopping."

Speaking to Kayse, Pukk says, "I guess I know who is going to be a councilor next year already."

Elidal begins chuckling at Pukk!

Speaking neutrally to Pukk, Kayse says, "She would make a good one."

Kelfyr asks, "Do you expect to have the walls completed within the next nine days?"

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Dey be done tomorrow."

Missoni says, "We shall have to, I suppose."

Elidal says, "Lady Aronia has informed me she looks to perform a ritual in the coming days, she will let everyone know when that time comes."

Pukk says, "I'm a good judge of character and I think Tikba is a good person."

Kayse whispers something to Drazaa.

Elidal says, "I welcome the walls completed as soon as they can be."

Elidal nods at Kelfyr.

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "That is well received news."

Drazaa whispers something to Kayse.

Samfelt removes a fel-hafted logging axe from in his leather axe frog.

Elidal says, "They will provide further protection from the winds, and Gnul, when the time comes."

Alosaka says, "Any walls would be useful, even incomplete. They can channel the defenses."

Samfelt knocks on a fel-hafted logging axe.

Samfelt leans on his axe.

Kayse ruefully says, "Limited time until Gnul comes, unfortunately."

Elidal nods.

Speaking to Elidal, Kelfyr says, "Well, the time comes after nine days, is the thing."

Elidal says, "So I've heard."

Ulfwine says, "The towers went up fast, as will the walls."

Speaking to Kayse, Perigourd says, "Indeed, but forewarning gives us time to prepare well."

Lylia says, "At least he will not come bearing feras weaponry."

Elidal says, "Eight to ten days, depending on the count of a goblin's fingers."

Elidal says, "Truth be told, I've never been close enough to one to count."

Elidal shrugs.

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Goblin not have level finnersh?"

Kelfyr says, "Might do to meet some of your new neighbors then."

A black-masked wolf says, "Lets just go get him now."

Missoni says, "Oh, I got fairly close. I think he counted ten yesterday, which would be nine from today."

Elidal asks, "Neighbors?"

Elidal grins.

Pukk says, "I can get Yardie to introduce you to the kobold village. He's their king."

Speaking deeply to Elidal, Samfelt says, "Probably for the best, m'Lord. Some of the ones around here have had something strange affecting them."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "My guess is the following day of the huntress or feastday."

Alosaka says, "There are some goblin tribes in the area. Your barony will have to come to an accord of some sort with them, I suspect, if you desire peaceful roads."

Ulfwine says, "Some sort of ague or flux."

Elidal grins at Alosaka.

Sablo's Next Move

Commander Sablo just came marching in.

Mourdeyan says, "Evenin husband."

Sablo snaps smartly to attention!

Elidal says, "Ah, Commander Sablo."

Mourdeyan says, "Evenin Commander."

Samfelt smiles quietly to himself.

Samfelt put a fel-hafted logging axe in his leather axe frog.

Elidal says, "Did you get all of the blood washed off? Some of the settlers thought it quite ghastly..."

Speaking to Sablo, Pukk says, "Good to see you finally got the baby griffin goo off your boots. Looks much better now."

Pukk appears to be trying hard not to grin.

Sablo glares at Pukk.

Pukk raises his hands in surrender!

Pukk says, "I'm giving you a compliment."

Pukk quickly ducks behind Vaemyr.

Samfelt deeply says, "Griffins? Glad I did not have to encounter any of those."

Elidal says, "We were just speaking of the forge mission..."

Elidal nods at Sablo.

Elidal says, "...and it was being shared with me how the operation was quite successful, save for a few twists."

Sablo says, "With all due respect Lord Elidal, do not try to be cute. Say or do what you must."

Samfelt glances between Sablo and Elidal.

Elidal clenches his jaw.

Samfelt wrings his hands.

Speaking to Elidal, Pukk says, "It's okay. I think you are acute while he is obtuse."

Elidal says, "I have received several reports, that you in fact found your way to the forge tunnels."

Elidal nods at Sablo.

Elidal asks, "Did you not?"

Sablo says, "I did."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "He did."

Speaking to Alisaire, Xorus says, "I am used to seeing you at day-night and not night-night."

Elidal asks, "Did I not command you otherwise?"

Sablo says, "You did."

Speaking to Xorus, Alisaire says, "Apologies for the inconvenience."

Samfelt frets.

Sablo says, "When I learned that the forges, being the primary mission had been accomplished, I went below to burn the farms and render the food supply ruined."

Elidal says, "Oh, I understand the logic Commander. I get it. We're at war. But that was not your order."

Tikba mildly asks, "A sensible goal. Why did you not mention it to us beforehand?"

Elidal says, "Had Gnul levied an attack against the camp during the raid, you would have been hundreds of feet below ground...and we would have our own butchered."

Samfelt glances over the bonfire with great interest.

Picking up a nearby stick, Samfelt idly prods the wood in the blazing bonfire, sending tiny motes of glowing ember into the air above.

Sablo says, "None of that transpired."

Mourdeyan says, "Far as I know, he doesn't answer t'any of us."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Fiters are known not fer dere brainsh, Elidal."

Kayse flatly says, "Don't worry he launched the attack on Wehnimer's instead."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "In fact he did attack our town during that time, you are very lucky that several of us dispatched their forces there quickly, before they spread to here."

Speaking to Elidal, Kiyna says, "Gnul did send a retaliatory force aboveground. We fought them off in the Landing. Had they targeted your camp, however..."

Speaking drunkenly to Mourdeyan, Gutstorm whispers aloud, "Wut me do?"

Elidal asks, "Do you see then Commander?"

Alosaka quietly notes, "If a guard falls asleep at his post and there is nevertheless no enemy attack, the guard is still negligent."

Elidal says, "Your aid could have been utilized within Wehnimer's Landing."

Samfelt deeply says, "Guards falling asleep at their post? That doesn't happen too often around here, I hope."

Samfelt fidgets.

Kelfyr says, "It was in fact directly called for during the attack."

Ulfwine says, "Quin falls asleep outside the west gate often enough."

Sablo says, "I did what was required to accomplish the overall mission."

Samfelt looks at Ulfwine with concern.

Ulfwine nods at Samfelt.

Sablo says, "The battle and work does not end with Gnul. The sooner he is hindered or handled, the sooner we move to the next phase."

Rasson says, "Just the west gate guard, but really he is just running a scam to pay his tab at helga when you can walk through the north gate for free."

Goldstr asks, "Meanin massacre?"

Lylia says, "Had you given such a directive, many of those who were already there could have burned the farms."

Elidal nods.

Elidal says, "You have no title, no spurs and no land Commander."

Lylia says, "We were already in place, after all."

Tikba says, "We are perfectly capable of setting things aflame. Some more than capable."

Pukk says, "And some would have enjoyed it too."

Elidal says, "I would threaten that you will never see any of those, if I thought you truly cared for any of them..."

Sablo says, "You are correct."

Speaking drunkenly to Elidal, Gutstorm slurs, "Me know da perfect punichmint fer Sablo, it teach him hoomility."

Elidal says, "I received several communications, recounting your behavior."

Elidal says, "There is calculation, and then there is savagery."

Elidal says, "There is however...one voice of many who spoke to me of you, about you, and for you."

Elidal nods.

Elidal says, "You will not be here for the end of Gnul."

Kayse glances at Elidal.

Picking up a nearby stick, Samfelt idly prods the wood in the blazing bonfire, sending tiny motes of glowing ember into the air above.

Samfelt shivers.

Elidal says, "You will never disregard my command again. When your liege lord declares you stand down, you will do so without question. I will not relieve you of your Command, but should you ever defy my direct order again, you will never see combat again for all of your days, but instead toil away in the mines of Kragsfell, where you will thirst for your bloodlust, but find no fountain to drink from."

Samfelt just closed a high-collared dark leather jacket fastened with thick fel toggles.

Elidal asks, "Do you understand Commander?"

Sablo's entire body tenses as he clenches his fist.

Sablo raises his fist slightly, then stops.

Sablo clenches his jaw.

Sablo nods.

Sablo says, "I understand Lord Elidal."

Elidal says, "You will be going to Riverwood until the winter's thaw here."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "He git to go on vacation?!"

Samfelt bites his lip.

Elidal says, "There is a very important caravan coming here, due in Charlatos. You will personally ensure its safety."

Rasson says, "Really should stop announcing the caravans, maybe move smaller groups in t odd times."

Sablo goes to remove his weapon scabbard.

Elidal looks over at Sablo and shakes his head.

Elidal says, "Don't."

Speaking drunkenly to Rasson, Gutstorm whispers aloud, "Me shore da caravan a decoy."

Elidal says, "You will need the weapons."

Speaking to Rasson, Vaemyr says, "I believe the plan is for Gnul to be delt with before then."

Elidal says, "The axes are not the problem."

Elidal says, "This is not the wilds. Not anymore."

Elidal nods at Sablo.

Elidal says, "You need to learn that. For all of us."

Sablo clenches his jaw.

Sablo says, "I shall prepare and depart in the morning."

Speaking evenly to Elidal, Kayse says, "I understand he disobeyed his ordes....but...we did not gain any advantages against Gnul until Commander Sablo arrived. It was due to his strategies and leadership that we have come as far as we have."

Vaemyr whispers something to Elidal.

Elidal says, "No. Your things have already been prepared. You'll be leaving tonight."

Kiyna peers quizzically at Kayse.

Alosaka says, "Then we have large shoes to fill."

Kayse asks, "Do not look at me that way. Tell me what progress was made until his arrival?"

Tikba quietly says, "I did not know the Empire sent men to toil their lives away in the mines. I am always glad to learn new things."

Elidal says, "My actions is no way shape or form diminish Lord Sablo's contributions, which I am thankful for."

Elidal says, "He knows this."

Sablo nods.

Elidal says, "You will remain as Commander, and we will welcome you back."

Elidal nods at Sablo.

Sablo says, "I will protect the caravan, and those traveling. I assure you Lord Elidal."

Sablo asks, "One request?"

Elidal nods.

Sablo asks, "Who spoke for me?"

Speaking to Tikba, Alosaka says, "Duty is a stern and heavy burden."

Perigourd whispers something to Kayse.

Elidal says, "Lady Iliyaas."

Sablo nods.

Sablo says, "I will depart this night. I shall return with the spring, and your family intact."

Sablo nods at Elidal.

Elidal bows to Sablo.

[General] Annadelle asks, "How long till invoker?"

Elidal says, "Speed and grace to you Commander."

Speaking quietly to Sablo, Tikba says, "If your duty becomes too heavy a burden, there is a book in Moot Hall you may sign instead. Then you will never need to set foot in a mine."

Speaking measuredly to Elidal, Kayse asks, "And you're confident we can defeat Gnul without him?"

Elidal nods.

Sablo snaps smartly to attention!

Speaking politely to Sablo, Missoni says, "Safe travels, Commander."

Kelfyr says, "Grace, at a minimum."

Sablo glances at Tikba.

[General] Snowyetis thinks, "1 hour."

Commander Sablo just went west.

Elidal's Next Move

Elidal slowly empties his lungs.

Speaking to Gutstorm, Kayse says, "Stop telling me what people want."

Speaking to Kayse, Kiyna says, "We always could."

Elidal holds up his hand, and its only shaking slightly.

Speaking deeply to Tikba, Samfelt says, "Kragsfell is place you go if you never wish to smile or laugh again. Being sent there is a severe punishment."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "I wish it hadn't of ended up that way."

Elidal says, "Well, he didn't punch me."

Speaking quietly to Samfelt, Tikba says, "Yes, I have been to such places."

Alisaire says, "Well, that was dramatic. Now I see why you all were gathered here."

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "He's not a fool."

Speaking to Elidal, Perigourd says, "He's just young."

Speaking to Elidal, Ulfwine says, ""You did what needed to be done."

Samfelt deeply says, "At least, if you are forced to work the mines."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "We hatchoo back Elidal."

Speaking to Elidal, Pukk says, "Yeah, I thought for sure he was going to swing."

Speaking to Elidal, Vaemyr says, "At least you also don't have any windows around for him to throw chair out of, wise design."

Elidal says, "I understand the man more than he thinks, but that is why I also know what is best for him."

Speaking to Elidal, Guarrin says, "That is something. We will miss his axe, certainly."

Speaking quietly to Elidal, Tikba says, "Yes, it is these moments that shape you."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Perigourd jests, "Perhaps with the walls."

Elidal nods at Thrassus.

Thrassus nods at Elidal.

Xorus says, "Chain of command is absolutely necessary."

Elidal nods at Xorus.

Lylia says, "Without it, there is chaos."

Mourdeyan says, "Perhaps you could send some of the malcontents wif him as well then."

Samfelt deeply says, "These walls should provide some protection. There is much work left to do before they are finished."

Samfelt nods.

Speaking to Samfelt, Ulfwine exclaims, ""I am ready to get started on them!"

[General] Oeath thinks, "I asked if you got someone."

Speaking reassuringly to Samfelt, Missoni says, "You shall have plenty of aid."

Samfelt deeply says, "I am not in charge of anything. Unless Lord Elidal wishes me to be, I will remain another humble servant of Darkstone."

Samfelt deeply says, "Just doing my part."

Elidal sighs.

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "If ye axe me, ye went eashy on him."

Perigourd offers Elidal a leaf-etched glass of deep amber Wildwood whiskey.

Elidal grins.

The minotaur warrior goes pale, and the clusters of plinite suddenly shatter, crumbling into tiny pieces of azure glass that dissolve like snowflakes before even hitting the ground. At the site of the stomach wound, a deep blue fire ignites the belly, and tendrils of cerulean flames quickly lick up and across the minotaur warrior, consuming its entire body before it can even let forth another painful bellow.
