AYAKI1: /* Sorcerers With These Uncommon Runes */

The abyran is a demon archetype which originates from the Lorae'tyr valence. There are three sub-types, abyran'a, abyran'sa, and abryan'ra. The abyran'a and abyran'sa are classified as minor demons and can be summoned through the use of Minor Summoning (725). The abyran'ra is a lesser demon, and cannot be summoned by players at this time. A lithe black abyran'ra has been the most common demon to pierce the veil when a sorcerer has a major failure for 740 Planar Shift.

Physical Description
The abyran are a species half-snake half-humanoids. Above the waist they have humanoid torsos, which blend into the scaly shaft and long tail of a snake. The skin of their torso can range in color, but is often some gradation of purple. The scaled portion of their body changes color to match their surroundings when endangered or excited. Their faces are mostly humanoid, but without hair or ears. They have unblinking, pupilless eyes, and have short protrusions on top their heads, which seem to move of their own volition. Their thin-lipped mouths contain a pair of menacing fangs, and long, thin tongues. The tongues of the abyran'sa and abyran'ra are forked, providing a sibilant quality to their speech. Like snakes, the abyran occasionally shed their skin.

The features of the abyran'ra are significantly different from the other sub-types. The most obvious being the protrusions of the head, which are instead a wreath of independently writhing serpents. In addition, the skin of the abyran'ra is generally a darker hue, usually black. Finally, the ends of its fingers are vicious scythe-like talons.

Society and Behavior
The abyran have an advanced society, easily the most advanced within Lorae'tyr. They have a caste system, comprised of a civilian/labor class (abyran'a), a priest class (abyran'sa), and a warrior class (abyran'ra). The abyran are constantly constructing intricate temples of stone, each with multiple sections which all share a central overlapping point (imagine a clover leaf). Due to the unpredictable time-shifting of the valence, portions of the temple are always in disrepair, though this manner of construction ensures that at least one segment remains standing. The abyran appear to hold snakes in high regard, and have been witnessed prostrating themselves to even the smallest serpents, sometimes statues of serpents.

The abyran'ra are powerful enough to use potent magic, both destructive and defensive. They have also been observed taking part in rituals which do nothing but display their power. Abyran'ra possess a particular fetish of violently removing the spinal columns of their slain enemies. They can then sharpen them into a bladed whip, and the set them aflame. Additionally, they clearly possess some sense of loyalty to their kin, because when they encounter a summoned abyran'a or abyran'sa, they will attempt to break the sorcerer's control over it. If they succeed, the sorcerer will lose the demon and incur a significant stun, but if they lose, the abyran'ra will be stunned instead. This is primarily fended off through training in Demonology.

Mechanical Benefits and Flaws
The abyran are moderate at holding coins, and possess adequate mana capacities. They can hold two objects, and inflict poison upon thieves they catch in their master's pockets. The abyran'sa are unique in that only they are able to break existing sanctuaries, whereas other demons can only interfere with the creation of new ones.

Roleplaying Verbs
POINT - You crook your finger meaningfully at the abyran'sa. Its serpentine face registers a brief flash of hatred before it approaches and draws up before you with its eyes averted in a show of humility.

PUSH - You push an outstretched hand towards the ground in front of the smoky amber abyran'sa. It slowly and begrudgingly lowers itself into a prone position, glaring at you with unmistakable loathing.

SLAP - You step forward and give the abyran'sa a stinging backhanded slap across the face. It draws quickly backwards, balancing on the tip of its tail and hissing warnings at you in a harsh alien tongue.

NOD - You give the abyran'sa a quick nod. It approaches and flows gracefully about you, shadowing your every move.

WAVE - You wave your hand across the abyran'sa's form. It emits a short hiss and begins to change colors, blending into the nearby surroundings with uncanny effectiveness.

SNAP - You snap your fingers briskly at the abyran'sa. It takes up a clearly guarded posture, claws and tail swinging easily about its compressed form.

Unlike most demons, NONE of these verbs work on the illusioned version of the Abyran.

Abyran'ra
<prelog2>
A wreath of thirteen black serpents ring the abyran'ra's head, bestowing it a full crown of the twisting vipers as they writhe back and forth in an undulating, hypnotic fashion. Its pale, lidless eyes are devoid of pupils -- merely rippling with faint hints of color every few moments. Twin pairs of fangs peek out from beneath its thin lips, and the smoothness of its skin fades away into sleek scales below its abdomen, its lower body tapering into a massive, sinuous tail like that of a snake's. Its elongated, spindly fingers end in scythe-like black talons, their razored edges gleaming with the faintest light as they weave sinuous patterns in swift, slicing arcs.

A spiky mottled black abyran'ra scythes its talons back and forth as it hisses a sibilant invocation.
A spiky mottled black abyran'ra raises its hands above its head as luminescent slivers of incarnadine slither across its palms!

A spiky mottled black abyran'ra slithers in and gathers its coils about itself.
A spiky mottled black abyran'ra slithers in, the ebon serpents atop its head writhing menacingly.
A spiky mottled black abyran'ra slithers in, its pupiless eyes surveying the area.
A spiky mottled black abyran'ra slithers in, swaying hypnotically back and forth on its sinuous coils.

A spiky mottled black abyran'ra dips its head up and down, jerking from side to side as it lets loose a flowing hiss.

A spiky mottled black abyran'ra tries to sink its curved fangs into you!
AS: +590 vs DS: +351 with AvD: +32 + d100 roll: +80 = +351
... and hits for 109 points of damage!
Neck skewered, sliding past the throat and spine! That looks painful.
You are stunned for 7 rounds!

The serpents upon a spiky mottled black abyran'ra's head writhe and undulate in exultation!

A spiky mottled black abyran'ra descends upon your corpse, its talons moving in swift, sweeping arcs across your back as its forked tongue darts in and out quickly.

After a moment, the abyran'ra plunges its hand into the base of your neck and rips out your spine in one fluid movement!

The mottled black abyran'ra rises up on its coils and runs its scythe-like talons over the blood-drenched spine in a sinuous fashion, a faint webwork of incarnadine energy lacing across its surface. After a moment, it begins to grow longer and longer, its bony protrusions melding into razored blades that wreath it on all sides. With one swift, sharp CRACK of the whip-like bone, the blood drenching the bladed spine bursts into flames -- the rippling scarlet hue cast by the blaze washing over the abyran'ra's face in lurid waves.

A spiky mottled black abyran'ra cracks its flaming elven spine, the razored bone-blades edging it blazing even higher with lurid crimson fire.

A spiky mottled black abyran'ra suddenly thrusts its hands forth, its spindly, serpentine fingers tracing a complex pattern in the air -- the intertwined sigils clearly visible as dark crimson light trails from the abyran'ra's fingertips to form an undulating webwork of otherworldly beauty -- then it vanishes.
The stone mastiff is a huge grey dog that seems to be formed of living stone. The mastiff is rectangular in shape, and the length of the mastiff from forechest to rear is around five feet. Massive and heavy boned, with a powerful muscle structure, this stone mastiff presents a formidable foe.

Hunting strategies
An absolute must hunt for sorcerers. Be sure to take a wizard with you and the pair of you can wreak havoc on the mastiffs. Most of the time you can single shot these with Dark Catalyst. So be prepared to have your wizard friend to send you lots of mana.

Other information
Mastiffs require a blunt weapon to skin.

Avrey Trent is a human warrior arrived in the spring of 5213 to Solhaven. She is from a small village in the barony of Bourth, which lies to the north of the Wyrdeep Forest. The village dubbed themselves Stonevale, thus named because of the large boulders that dot the secluded valley they reside in, surrounded by the tall peaks of the Dragonspine. Her father, Owen Trent, is the village healer and her mother, Nadia nee MacIntyre, was once a warrior of some renown from Dragach. They met during battle, where she was gravely wounded while protecting a son of Firman McGarry and Owen saved her life. After the clash, they decided to live a simpler life to start a family.

Owen and Nadia tried to have children for a very long time, consulting the local shamans and even the elves of Wyrdeep for spells and potions to cause conception. In the fall of 5105 Nadia gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy, and the couple couldn't have been happier. They named them Avrey and Ian, and raised them with an even hand. As the twins grew older, they were allowed to make decisions about how they wanted to make a living, but were expected to contribute to the family from the age of 10.

As a small village, the majority of work was hard labor, hauling stones and felling trees for more land to eke out a living. Ian showed a propensity for gentleness and caring, leaning towards his fathers way of healing, but argued with his mother and father more often than not. Avrey was obedient but quiet while showing a curiosity about the world around her and was much happier with the physicalness of her chores than her brother. When the twins turned 15, the decision was made to add weapon training to their daily schedule.

As she was training in the field one day, practicing an overhand strike on a poor scarecrow in the field, an avalanche crushed her family's home. Luckily no one was in it at the time, but the loss of the home meant that Ian and Avrey were sent to a small nearby military school to reside, where they became the youngest cadets that the school had seen.

The home was eventually rebuilt, and the twins were welcome to come back. Ian went readily, his path was chosen and he was planning to become a healer like his father. The school had given him knowledge of how to use his innate talents to fight the undead scourge and unruly mountain invaders. Avrey decided to stay on at school, and graduated at the top of her class.

Encouraged by her parents to seek out her fortune, Avery was excited to experience life outside of the village, but didn't have any particular place in mind. In the spring of 5123, the village held their annual festival before the sowing of the fields, a tinkers wagon showed up with tales of the Barons Caulfield and of the unusual circumstances surrounding the Lady Larsya and her narrow escape from certain death.

Such were the tales that she expressed a keen interest in meeting the man responsible for saving the lady's life, Sir Mynon Felcroth, whom she was told was currently residing in Solhaven. She struck out on her journey with the blessing of her parents, promising to continue her training. On the way, she was set upon by by a large band of bandits who stole nearly everything of value, except a tiny vial of dirt that was presented to her by her brother Ian. Upon arriving in Solhaven she immediately set out to continue her training, spending long hours in the field.

Currently, her superiors at the guild and the monks from the Order of Voln are happy with her dedication to ridding the countryside of bandits, as well as the ever-present threat of undead, and she eventually got to meet Sir Mynon. Her letters to home are filled with excitement and wonder, and she sends a majority of her money that she earns to the family. She receives packages from her family sporadically; usually gifts to aid in her training, heirlooms from her mothers time in battle.

Brisker's Cove is one of the two major cities in the County of Seareach in the Turamzzyrian Empire.

The city of Brisker's Cove started out as a small settlement on the cove of the same name. The city is bustling with trade, and the ports operate day and night. All varieties of ships arrive at Brisker's Cove, from small skiffs to warships. The people are generally well educated and well off, sometimes considered snobbish, even by empire standards.

Current History
One of the richest towns of Seareach, its wealth makes it a focal point for krolvin and other pirate attacks. Throughout the years, the town has gone through waves of construction, destruction, and reconstruction. Lately, it possesses a more subdued look to it, with remnants of previous attacks still visible. Beneath this, however, in small pockets and exclusive, hidden areas, the rich and elite still reign supreme, setting the fashions and trends for all of Seareach as well as other nearby coastal areas. Make no mistake, despite humble surroundings, Brisker's Cove contains vast wealth and influence.

Originally only a small port city, Brisker's Cove expanded as it gained popularity as part of imperial trade routes. As the city was built, expanded, and rebuilt, the various sections of the city were given large protective walls on their vulnerable sides. As a result, the different sections of the city became known as the Wards, with richer merchants moving to the newer buildings and areas as a sign of status. Those that remained within the older wards began to use colloquies to refer to the sections that they now felt they owned.

Examples of this include: Sticofen’s Ward, named after a wealthy family of iron, copper, and bronze merchants, was known as Iron Ward by the locals. Brisker's Naval Fleet, BNF for short, was burned to the ground, causing the military and their families to move to South Point Ward. Those that remained in the old ward began referring to it as Fisherman's Ward when the fishing industry started to settle there. Jiasamp Ward, named for a family of importers is now known as Comyner's Ward.

Currently, there are eight wards within the city with Garden Ward being the most lavish.

Comyner's Ward is accessible to non-Brisker's Cove citizens that dock at the port, and contains a handful of shops.

Customs
The old fishermen of Brisker's Cove still follow the ancient custom of predicting the season's weather and harvest by setting three nets in the sea. The middle net is closely watched, and if crabs, lobster, or shellfish fill it, then a poor season with bad weather will follow. But if scaly fish enter the net, then a plentiful year with good weather is assured. All along the coast "windsellers" can be found, and from them can be purchased winds of many kinds. To bring the wind from any direction they have only to turn their hats and wish, and it is whispered that they trap foul winds inside eggshells stoppered with shoemaker's wax, to dash against a stone whenever they desire to call forth a storm.

The placement of Brisker's Cove (and Fairport) on the player created OSA map was done through careful consideration of official Elanith maps, and the existing locations of Solhaven and River's Rest on the in game map. I suspect the in game location of the Brisker's Cove port is wrong (it's too far south) and a bug report was submitted. This is a short term temporary image until I find out more details.

Also of note, the 3 blank areas with dots, around the port, are ocean rooms in game.

You see Avrey Trent the Cadet.
She appears to be a Human from Bourth.
She is tall. She appears to be youthful. She has dark-rimmed ultramarine eyes and fair skin. She has chin length, unruly raven black hair with delicate layering in the back. She has an angular face, a freckled nose and well-groomed, thin dark eyebrows.
She has a sleeve of shadowy inked undead clawing their way up to their doom on her right arm.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing an asymmetric fine velvet jacket, a tiny vial of bleak grey soil, some shimmering argent platemail with a thick quilted black linen gambeson underneath, a roomy herb kit strung on thick rope-like chains, some onyx leather pants belted by a trio of matching straps threaded through ovals, and a pair of durable light wool socks under a pair of tall black boots with silver and onyx buckles.
