In the dining room of Ilynov Manor hangs a gilt-framed painting.

An ornate, gilded frame surrounds this masterpiece. Painted in the late empirical style, dark oils in crimson, black, and dark grey depict a battery of elven soldiers fighting valiantly. A tattered crimson banner, bearing crossed longswords above a stylized letter I, seems to leap from the darkness of the surrounding battle as yellows, whites, and hints of gold have been meticulously blended into a single ray of sunshine falling directly upon the banner. Affixed to the frame is a simple vaalin plate.

In the Common language, it reads:<br>
~The Eversworded in the Battle of the Mistydeep~<br>
We fight as one, or not at all!

The painting has a loresong telling the story of the Battle of the Mistydeep. It was won by Esana's player at the 2022 Premium auction.

==Loresong==

This loresong displays to the entire room and is the same for both the bard, and the listener.

'''Verse 1:

Your spirits soar as the ancient battle hymn tickles your ears and sparks a memory. The scene shifts and you find yourself amid the organized chaos that is preparation for battle. Soldiers march in orderly lines toward each of Ta'Vaalor's mighty gates. Above the din of metal boots on stone and shouted orders, a song floats...

''So sing your praises to Ilynov<br>
''The rare boys of Vaalor<br>
''Eversworded and never thwarted<br>
''Make way for the boys of Ilynov<br>

'''Verse 2:

Delving deeper, the song and scene shift, and you see a battery of soldiers beneath a crimson banner bearing crossed longswords above a stylized letter I. Boisterous boasts of "We are the Eversworded" ring out from some of the less seasoned elves in the group, while the veterans wear a more serious demeanor.

The commander strides purposefully across the courtyard and stops to speak with another just inside the gate. "Eriala," he says clearly, in an even tone, "Father has asked that you stand in reserve for now."

The female elf frowns and replies, "I'm faster than you, Marcand, and my strikes are true. I should be on the front lines with the rest of our house."

Chuckling, Marcand replies, "In due time, Eriala, in due time. Father is not ignorant of your skills, nor does he wish to waste them. Have faith and remember, we fight as one, or not at all!"

Turning sharply on his heel, he barks orders for his battery to depart.

'''Verse 3:

The song quickens as a discordant minor tone seeps in, echoing frustration. Eriala paces around the training hall. She is not young by elven standards, yet not as seasoned as her brother. Clenching her fists in their mailed gauntlets, she closes her eyes and breathes deeply.

"Assemble the bandon," she barks, as a nearby soldier departs at a dead sprint. Several moments pass as she continues breathing deeply, her eyes closed in determined focus. She did not understand her father's orders but she trusted him above all else. She would do her duty as asked.

As she ascends the steps and makes her way toward the courtyard, she repeats under her breath what had been drilled into her since she could remember, "We fight as one, or not at all."

'''Verse 4:

A soft beat joins the larger tapestry of music, pushing the song forward as Eriala strides into the courtyard and surveys a handful of elves in crisp, precise rows beneath the central willow tree.

Stopping before the bandon, she steadies her voice and announces, "We have been ordered to hold here in reserve." Turning to face a slender soldier with flaming hair, Eriala continues, "Kiay, you will take the scout position tonight with M'kera, who is your cover. I want frequent reports from the front and an honest appraisal of how the battle fares. Herriana, you will fill support tonight as our battlefield medic with Cilyndra, our alchemist. Make your preparations."

Eriala finishes, "We will be ready if we are called upon."

'''Verse 5:

The music fades to a soft whisper as night falls over the courtyard. Kiay's reports had been like clockwork, small skirmishes on the bridges, nothing major. "All in all, a rather boring engagement," mutters Eriala to herself. Sighing, she resigns herself to a sleepless night awaiting glory that she no longer expected to come. A low note rumbles as M'kera enters the courtyard.

"You are out of position," Eriala snaps with a slight arch of her eyebrow. "This better be good."

Snapping to attention and crisply striking her chest with a closed fist, M'kera responds, "Kiay sends word too important to entrust to other means; she has been in contact with Marcand."

Controlling her impatience, Eriala nods once, "Continue."

'''Verse 6:

A high crystalline note rings almost imperceptibly amid the growing symphony. Clearing her throat and dropping her voice, M'kera continues, "The enemy has landed behind our front lines using boats from the isle north of here. Kiay was able to slip ahead of the enemy and warn Marcand, but now they are surrounded on the bridge outside of Vermilion."

Frowning, Eriala asks, "How is it she got word to you?"

Smiling ruefully, M'kera responds, "A tattered cloak and a swish of her hips, and the enemy ignored her passing as if she were a serving woman or some such nonsense. Marcand requests our aid, and Kiay awaits near the enemy vessels, requesting another of Cilyndra's alchemical wonders."

With a final quick salute, she asks, "Your orders, Ma'am?"

'''Verse 7:

Your spirits rise once more as the robust composition builds to a crescendo.

"Eversworded! What are our house standing orders?" Eriala shouts.

With a resounding cry, the bandon replies, "We fight as one, or not at all!"

"Cover your armor with anything dark. Support, make us some of those wonders Kiay requested. M'kera, lead us to the river," Eriala commands.

The women burst into action, and within minutes, a shadowy figure emerges near the river bank. Kiay points silently to the vessels grounded near the base of the wall, and Cilyndra quickly sets to work. Flames leap from the wooden boats, burning despite the water and reducing them to ashes. Raising her longsword high, Eriala cries out as her bandon charges the bridge and slams into the enemy's unguarded rear.

'''Verse 8:

The music fades and evolves again into a familiar battle hymn. Before her, a single ray of light from the breaking dawn falls upon Marcand's tattered battle standard. In that moment, Eriala understood her father's reasons: use what your enemy underestimates, be patient, and wait for the battle to tell you what to do. A heroic charge most often leads to death, sound tactics to victory. The battle was long but they pushed through, and House Ilynov finally "fought as one."

When victory finally came and her weary bandon was allowed some respite, a slightly different song rose up from the people.

''So sing your praises to Ilynov<br>
''The rare elves of Vaalor<br>

==Loresong==

===Wyvern===
Wyvern (/ˈwīvərn/): A magical, winged, two-legged dragon with a reptilian body and a barbed tail. They were created by the great drakes as companions in the ages before the Ur-Daemon War.

==Origin and History==
Much has been lost over the countless years since wyverns first came into being, however I will endeavor to put down faithfully what I have gathered from various sources. Much of what I have to document comes from long held oral histories from each of the elven houses. The rest has been pieced together from a few select religious texts such as Granlith Hammerhand's "Koar: Drake or Fake, A Religious Treatise."

In the early days of Elanthia, before the Ur Daemon war, the drakes ruled the lands with undisputed authority. Due to their nature as highly intelligent beings, the drakes constantly sought after intellectual challenge and stimulation. These are the circumstances that led the drakes to create beings capable (at least in theory) of challenging their mental fortitude, and thus wyverns entered the lands. Formed in the image of their creators, wyverns possess great mental faculties, being prone to deep philosophical thought patterns accompanied by quick, razor sharp wit. Long did they reside with the drakes, being somewhat less arrogant (though this fact is disputed) than their creators, they served as opponents in great debates regarding all manner of things. When the time came that the drakes were no longer the powerhouse of Elanthia, and with the Arkati poised to assume power, Koar, alternatively called the Great Drake**, did issue forth a new purpose unto the wyverns. Translated here into common, it states thus, "Go forth into the lands and watch over the elven people, of whom I am quite fond." <ref>Granlith Hammerhand, Koar: Drake or Fake, a Religious Treatise: p 25</ref> Thus began the relationship between elves and the great winged beasts.

<nowiki>
**The theological discussion concerning the differing opinions on whether Koar was, in fact, the last of the DragonKind or if that was merely a form he chose to maintain control of the other Arkati is a conversation for another time. I quote only what records I have found and make no determination either way on the subject.
</nowiki>

Though in antiquity all of the elven race was closely associated with wyverns, only House Vaalor still maintains at least a semblance of that relationship today. Perhaps this is due to mutual respect between the people of House Vaalor and their guardians. An excerpt from a Vaalorian oral history, as related to me by Vaalor Court Bard Flantio Sindaris, illustrates the relationship:

:''In ages past, after the Ur-Daemon War, the elven families did separate and go their individual ways, founding great Houses from their bloodlines. During these travels, Aradhul Vaalor and his company did encounter a great golden-winged beast in the high mountain passes south and west of present-day Ta'Vaalor. Aradhul did engage the beast, not with arms, but with his wits, talking freely of plants in the environs, places to find fresh water, and events of the distant past. Though innocent in appearance, this was merely a tactic to distract the beast while the company's warriors did take up flanking positions under cover of the surrounding environs.

:''Now the great beast, Garsnik, was not deceived, for he was one of the more intelligent of his kind. He was, nonetheless, impressed by the willingness of this mortal to parlay an attempt to gain an advantage, his speed and precision, and his warriors' usage of terrain as a tactical advantage without need for orders. It was at this time that Garsnik chose Aradhul and those of his family to protect saying, "You are a strong and noble people, quick of mind and strong in battle. You have earned my admiration; I will show you a place you might settle. It is a land rich with grains, fish, and game that you may easily defend against those who come against you, and I will watch over you.

And so it was that Aradhul and his family did safely found Ta'Vaalor upon an island in the Mistydeep River and adopt the golden wyvern as their symbol. The friendship continued between Aradhul and Garnik for many years, and they fought many battles together until the passing of Aradhul. Garsnik lit his friend's funeral pyre with his fiery breath before launching himself into the air and disappearing to the southwest. He was not seen again for many years, and the peoples of House Vaalor presumed he was in mourning. The last recorded appearance of Garsnik was in the year 33,711 of House Vaalor, where he was spotted high above the battle of ShadowGuard.

There are other tales, of wyverns and the Houses they chose to watch over, of their relationships and what became of them, but those are for another time, and for other historians to tell.

==Species==
* Golden wyverns
* White Wyverns
* Blue Wyverns
* Green Wyverns
* Silver Wyverns
* Black Wyverns
* Red Wyverns

==Habitat==
There are several subspecies of wyvern as noted above, each of which favors different environs in which to live. As mentioned above, Garsnik was encountered in the mountainous regions of the eastern half of Elanith. From what I have been able to determine based upon oral histories and one particularly interesting codex, golden wyverns preferred such terrain. Making their home in caves high atop the mountains, they were fond of the surrounding forests. "Being that the beasts' senses were particularly keen, the scent of fresh pine and the glorious fall colors throughout the deciduous trees in the lower elevations did often bring comfort to a solitary existence." <ref>Dreena Fleetfoot Vaalor, Conversations with a lesser drake that did not end in death: p 14</ref> Dreena continues, "According to Krutgik, a rather small and somewhat sniveling white wyvern, the wyverns split apart soon after creation. Many of the wyvern kind allowed their arrogance to supersede Koar's directive and abandoned the charge he placed upon them to watch over the elven people. Rather, they went their own ways, finding pleasure in numerous areas, each to their choosing" <ref>Dreena Fleetfoot Vaalor, p 6</ref>

==Religion==
Having been created by the drakes, and considering themselves above the Arkati, wyvern have no official religion but regard Koar with great respect.

==Social Habits==
What little is known about the social habits of wyverns is passed down through the Vaalorian relationship with Garsnik. As mentioned above, as a species, their arrogance leaves little room for social relationships, and thus, wyverns are solitary creatures.

==Appearance==
Wyvern are great winged beasts (though one would not live long using such a word in address). From various works and oral histories, we know they vary greatly in size and intelligence, yet even the most challenged among them would be as far above elven intelligence as elves are above kobolds. Common traits shared among all subspecies are great leathery wings, sharp talons on powerful legs, and thick, armor-like, scales. Each subspecies is believed to have been "birthed" of an element and thus possessed a mighty breath according to its alignment.

Each of the various subspecies varied in coloration, a trait believed to be defensive in nature, for each preferred a unique environment and diet. White - The snowy caps of the DragonSpine; Black - Burrows deep beneath the ground; Blue - Craggy island peaks along the eastern shore of Elanith; Green - The vast forest surrounding modern-day Ta'Illistim such as Gyldemar; Red - Volcanic areas reminiscent of Teras; and finally Silver and Gold. Gold we know preferred high mountain caves, and little is known of Silver. One interesting snippet suggests, "Silver wyvern do not nest, rather they are like great sharks of the sky, constantly moving and existing solely above the clouds." <ref>Seenia Vaalor, Beasts of the Wilds: A Field Guide: p 62</ref>

==Combat==
Wyvern are arrogant and easily provoked, which in ancient times led to frequent battles among the various subspecies. From what little has been left to us in oral traditions and a few occasionally dismissed works, it can be surmised that wyvern are quite formidable in battle. As told in Beasts of the Wilds: A Field Guide, "The great beast did rise up on high, held aloft by lethargic flaps of its mighty wings, its prey knocked to the ground and held in place by the great wind. With a shrill shriek, the magnificent wyvern dove upon its prey, raking the poor beast with talons comparable in size to a shortened sword. Whereupon, it did exhale a mighty stream of liquid fire that did cook the prey alive, ending its life." <ref>Seenia Vaalor, pg 39</ref>

==Birth==
Wyverns are created magical beings and therefore not "born" in the sense you or I might know. An oral history of House Vaalor recounts a discussion with Garsnik on the matter, again retold to me by Vaalor Court Bard Flantio Sindaris.

:''"I was not born as you know it, but rather created from the thoughts of a Great Drake while Koar watched with anticipation. My coloring is that of the drake that created me. Others were created by various drakes, each to their liking. Among us, there are no male and female… we just are, and only the strongest among us can create others. Apart from myself, I have met no others with the ability. Being that I am lesser than the great drakes, he said with a deliberate sneer, those I create are diminished in size and ability when compared even to myself. Should one of them possess the ability to create others, those too would be diminished further until such time as there will be left none that can create more of my species. This does not concern me overmuch as I have little use for others of my kind." When pressed on the matter, Garsnik admitted that he had, in fact, created a number of gold wyverns but would comment no further upon their whereabouts."

==Death==
Wyverns are not immortal, though their exceedingly long lifespans may cause them to appear so. It is curious to this scholar that no great carcasses have ever been found, nor are there any eye witness accounts of a wyvern's death in any of the multitude of records I have studied. From the experience of Garsnik's relationship with House Vaalor and subsequent disappearance, an inference can be made that when it is time for a wyvern to move on they do so in some remote location. Other unsubstantiated theories have been put forth over the years such as: Wyverns simply choose to revert in form to the mana from which they were created <ref>Kray Illistim, Wyverns, where did they go?: p 12</ref> or Wyverns choose to breathe their last over the vast oceans of Elanthia, thus hiding their numbers by sending their bones to the deep. <ref>Ceebar Loenthra, Wyverns: Deep thinking: p 148.</ref> None of these theories have been thoroughly vetted and are often considered fringe academia at best.

<nowiki>
**The theological discussion concerning the differing opinions on whether Koar was, in fact, the last of the DragonKind or if that was merely a form he chose to maintain control of the other Arkati is a conversation for another time. I quote only what records I have found and make no determination either way on the subject.
</nowiki>

==Species==
* Golden wyverns
* White Wyverns
* Blue Wyverns
* Green Wyverns
* Silver Wyverns
* Black Wyverns
* Red Wyverns

==Habitat==

==Religion==
Having been created by the drakes, and considering themselves above the Arkati, wyvern have no official religion but regard Koar with great respect.

==Social Habits==
What little is known about the social habits of wyverns is passed down through the Vaalorian relationship with Garsnik. As mentioned above, as a species, their arrogance leaves little room for social relationships, and thus, wyverns are solitary creatures.

==Appearance==

==Combat==

==Birth==

==Death==
== Crimson Legion Uniform ==
Every member of the Crimson Legion will receive a new uniform. There are no requirements to wear these, except during official ceremonies and bi-monthly events. The protection of innocents takes precedent over everything. You are encouraged to wear your uniform as much as possible when in the Fortress to show your Pride, Honor, and Glory and to let residents and citizens know of your position and expertise.<br>
Lost or damaged uniforms or badges can be replaced by the Lord Legionnaire Commander for a small fee of 100k. Despite this, reservists are strongly discouraged from misplacing of any piece of their uniform.

For a squire, the uniform constitutes:

* <font color="#BE0032">a dark crimson jacket adorned at the shoulders with <font color="#DAA520">gold braid</font> tied into one knot of rank </font>
* <font color="#BE0032">a billowing crimson cape</font> <br><small>''not a container''</small>
* <font color="#BE0032">a pair of polished crimson and <font color="#DAA520">gold</font> bracers</font> <br>
:(the bracers improve an Elf's [[Strength]] by 2, and [[Constitution]], [[Agility]], and [[Dexterity]] by 1)
:<small>''miscellaneous armor''</small>
* <font color="#BE0032">a small</font> black leather<font color="#BE0032"> kit </font><br>
:(filled with bandages)
:<small>''holds a medium amount''</small>

=== Alterations and the Uniform ===
Absolutely no cosmetic alterations to any piece of issued uniform gear are allowed. The uniform may be lightened and/or deepened, as appropriate, and scripts and enhancives may be added to a uniform item, just like any other item.

Should the reservist prefer, an existing item with more desirable properties may be altered into a uniform item. Not all alterers are comfortable doing this, and '''the reservist must surrender the original uniform piece at the time of the alteration'''.
It is up to the Legionnaires, First Legionnaires, and High Legionnaires to run regularly scheduled training lessons, whether on invasion strategies, town defenses, fire brigade drills, etc.
'''Recognition'''<br>
At times, there may be special awards or medals created to recognize the efforts and courage of members within the Crimson Legion and will be announced during ceremonies once, or twice a year.
*	Removal from the Crimson Legion is at the discretion of the Lord Legionnaire Commander. Disruptive actions include, but are not limited to, violent acts against fellow townspeople and adventurers, endangering the town, association with criminal organizations, unlawful activity, extreme insubordination, and treason. No violence of any kind between members of the Crimson Legion will be tolerated and is grounds for immediate expulsion from the Legion with no opportunity to re-apply.
*	Every 3 months, the Lord Legionnaire Commander will review the reports submitted on each Crimson Legion member by the Legionnaires. These reports will be used to determine promotions, awards of recognition, and at times disciplinary action up to and/or including removal from the Legion.
*	Every 4 months, the Lord Legionnaire Commander will review the activity and performance of the Legionnaires, First Legionnaires, and High Legionnaire. == Crimson Legion Uniform ==

* <font color="#BE0032">a billowing crimson cape</font> <br><small>''not a container''</small>
:(the bracers improve an Elf's [[Strength]] by 2, and [[Constitution]], [[Agility]], and [[Dexterity]] by 1)
:<small>''holds a medium amount''</small>

=== Alterations and the Uniform ===
Absolutely no cosmetic alterations to any piece of issued uniform gear are allowed. The uniform may be lightened and/or deepened, as appropriate, and scripts and enhancives may be added to a uniform item, just like any other item.

Should the reservist prefer, an existing item with more desirable properties may be altered into a uniform item. Not all alterers are comfortable doing this, and '''the reservist must surrender the original uniform piece at the time of the alteration'''.

'''Roleplay'''<br>
The concept of the Crimson Legion has always been to provide structure and strategy in times of invasions or crisis, but also to provide a chance to build the community, foster relationships, and get people of all levels involved.

'''Code of Conduct'''<br>
*	All members of the Crimson Legion are expected to maintain a positive image of the Legion by acting with Pride, Honor, and Glory regardless of the location they are stationed. Any actions seen to tarnish the image of the Crimson Legion, whether within the Fortress or abroad, are grounds for disciplinary action.
*	All Members of the Crimson Legion, regardless of rank, are expected to adhere to a code of conduct that maintains their clean record of citizenship within the town. Any actions seen as disruptive to the safety of the town and its people, or criminal in any way, will result in removal from the Crimson Legion.
This process is to ensure they are upholding the highest level of activity and conduct within the organization. Failure to adhere to the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action up to and/or including removal from the Legion.

'''Barracks'''<br>
Barracks exist within the walls of Guardian Keep and include several areas for training, planning, and socializing.

'''Associations'''<br>
There are only a few organizations currently active within the Fortress of Ta'Vaalor. Membership in these organizations does not prevent membership in the Crimson Legions with the following exception:<br>
Membership in any organization, foreign or domestic, whose stated purpose is of a military nature
'''Journal Entries'''<BR><BR>
Despana threatens even the mighty Vaalor, and Taki Rassien seeks the best from the Vaalorian army. He had the nerve to try to separate my boys today. He refused to take the entire regiment, claiming lack of resources. Ilynov fights as one or fights not at all. His Sabrar will have to make do without us. Honor dictates no other course. I fear it will weaken him considerably to not have House Ilynov's regiment, for those he has chosen, while good warriors, are no match for my Eversworded.<BR>

Taki still requests one or two of my boys, the cream of the crop, he calls them. My old student seems to have forgotten what makes the Eversworded the most successful regiment in history. Blood first. Everything else second. We are one. They sing our song in the streets for a reason, but the politics and the fear are making those in power forget.<BR>
Imaerasta, year 33,710 of House Vaalor<BR><BR><BR>
Tonight, my eldest, Marcand, told me Taki prepares for a battle at ShadowGuard. He still refuses the help of the full regiment of Ilynov, and I cannot but think that somehow, I have failed in my teachings of Vaalor's finest lone warrior. Marcand informed me that he plans on leading the Eversworded in a surprise attack on the forces besieging ShadowGuard, attacking first in the hopes of clearing the way for Taki's troops to gain entrance and reinforce the Shadow Legion. Success before glory, he tells me, and I know with him I have not failed.<BR>

The city murmurs excitedly about the glorious slaughter of Taki Rassien and his elite fighters. There has been no word of the Eversworded, however, but none of the bodies recovered are from my boys. I cannot conceive of a battle so great that nothing was left of our regiment. I have tracked down all but one survivor. Out of those questioned, one vaguely remembers seeing our standard, and another remembers hearing the song. Tomorrow, I seek out the last survivor and will see what he knows.<BR>

The last survivor has become the battle's latest victim. He died today in my arms, but not before he could tell me more of the battle. The Eversworded took to the field before dawn, surprising Despana's hordes and opening a faint path through which the Sabrar charged. When asked if my boys died to a man, the wounded soldier shivered and whispered, "No." My heart filled with hope and I leaned into him, begging for more details. The soldier grew deathly pale and whispered "Gone, all gone, but none dead." Before he could tell me more, he died in my arms. No standard lay abandoned on the field, nor bodies. My boys would not flee a battle, no matter what the price, and rest assured, had a hundred men ran from that demon-spawn, the streets would be echoing the names of the cowards. I cannot fathom what has happened. My boys, my House, has, to a man, disappeared.<BR>
Kai protect them as they protect you.<BR>
I grow old and sick, but for the last hundred years, I have searched in vain for the truth of what happened that fateful day at ShadowGuard. There are whispers, but no answers. The aches in my crippled legs threaten to overcome me. Not even the kind family healer can ease the pain anymore. The branches of our once-great House have been absorbed into other Families and all that is left now is my youngest son. He was too young to fight, and thus I was spared at least one progeny. Perhaps he can find the answers I have missed. <BR>
Olaesta, year 33,710 of House Vaalor<BR><BR><BR>

Lormesta, year 33,711 of House Vaalor<BR><BR><BR>

The city murmurs excitedly about the glorious slaughter of Taki Rassien and his elite fighters. There has been no word of the Eversworded, however, but none of the bodies recovered are from my boys. I cannot conceive of a battle so great that nothing was left of our regiment. I have tracked down all but one survivor. Out of those questioned, one vaguely remembers seeing our standard, and another remembers hearing the song. Tomorrow, I seek out the last survivor and will see what he knows.<BR>
Eaontos, year 33,712 of House Vaalor<BR><BR><BR>

Eaontos, year 33,712 of House Vaalor<BR><BR><BR>
I grow old and sick, but for the last hundred years, I have searched in vain for the truth of what happened that fateful day at ShadowGuard. There are whispers, but no answers. The aches in my crippled legs threaten to overcome me. Not even the kind family healer can ease the pain anymore. The branches of our once-great House have been absorbed into other Families and all that is left now is my youngest son. He was too young to fight, and thus I was spared at least one progeny. Perhaps he can find the answers I have missed. <BR>
So sing your praises to Ilynov

The rare boys of Vaalor.

Eversworded and never thwarted

Make way for the boys of Ilynov.

So bow down to Ilynov

Rare boys of valor.

First on the field and last to yield
