==Ancient Voices of the Sea==

From the oldest teachings of the Acqsael, music, dance, and light began not as art forms, but as responses to the environment around them. Vibrations were carried through the water, causing light to flicker across their bodies. Unique currents formed as fins turned, changing the flow of water. The sea was the catalyst for their first moments of communication.

Long before their language evolved, information traveled through the movement of currents, flickers of bioluminescence, and sound vibrations. Gradually, they expanded, becoming recognizable patterns, and those became the basis for communication in their society.

What land dwellers often mistake for music or dance serves a more important role in Acqsael life. Their bioluminescence can alter the meaning of a phrase. A sequence of unique vibrations can identify an individual, while rhythmic patterns can carry information far across the water. Communication exists within every movement, shimmer, and vibration that passes through the sea.

==Gifts Drawn from the Sea==

Acqsael instruments are created from what the sea provides. Shells become horns capable of carrying vibrations across great distances. Coral frames strung with treated sea plant fibers send pulses when drawn through the currents. Coral and stone chimes allow the water to carry their tones through the sea. Drums are constructed from stretched shark and ray skins layered over hollowed stone.

Acqsael instruments are designed for their underwater environment. They rely upon the water to create their intended sounds. When brought above to the surface, they produce odd tones, distorted sounds, or barely any sound at all. They lose the unique vibrations that can only be felt through water.

==Living Songs of the Tides==

Acqsael songs are not recorded or thought of as fixed compositions. Their music consists of patterns of tone that are passed from generation to generation. While certain common foundations remain recognizable, no performance is identical. Each performer provides their own subtle variations that layer together with the original foundations. Because of this, songs are seen as living traditions that continue to grow and change.

While Acqsael music is used for entertainment, it has a much more important purpose. Family histories and connections are recounted through distinct melodic patterns. Other forms of performance accompany important events in Acqsael lives, community gatherings, and celebrations. Mourning songs move in slow-moving, circular patterns intended to preserve their memories, while warnings use unique rhythms and tonal structures that can be identified immediately. This allows information to spread through the water quickly.

==The Form of the Waves==

Dance and movement are an important part of Acqsael culture. They are generally circular, spiraled, and continuous. Poses are not rigid, but flexible and fluid where each motion moves smoothly to the next, creating patterns that resemble the steady movement of the sea itself.

Groups form rings about each other that contract and expand, imitating the water in motion. Individuals glide in arcs that intersect and intertwine. Large gatherings can involve an unlimited number of participants moving through the same area, following known patterns, while being aware of and adapting to the movements of those around them. The result can appear complex to outsiders, yet in reality remains remarkably organized.

Dance serves a wide variety of purposes within Acqsael society. Some accompany songs and enhance ceremonies, while others share history, celebrate events, or reinforce bonds within the community. Individual movements carry symbolic meaning. An ascending twist may represent a moment of discovery, while a rapid descent can symbolize reflection or remembrance in the community.

Dance is normally performed within the water, but there are some ceremonies and events where dance may take the performers above the waves. Either way, the sea is an active participant. The body changes the direction of water with each movement, creating currents that can be felt by those nearby. The shifting flow helps coordinate the dancers and allows groups to preserve cohesion in complex exhibitions.

Many dances incorporate bioluminescent displays. The dancers pulse light across their skin in coordination with the movements. Spirals of motion turn into complex spirals of color, while formations are mirrored by waves of illumination that ripple throughout the group as part of the choreography. These displays are not separate forms of expression but interrelated parts of the same artistic work, combining them into a unified whole.

Because dance relies so heavily on resilience, resistance, and strong, smooth movements, most Acqsael traditions cannot be replicated out of the sea. Movements that appear effortless underwater become difficult or impossible above. For the Acqsael dance is an art form created in partnership with the sea.

==The Spoken Light==

Bioluminescent light is an important part of Acqsael communication. While all Acqsael possess the ability to produce light, the controlled use is learned, just like speaking a new language. Young Acqsael practice controlling their lights to where they gradually master patterns that can be recognized by others. What begins as an instinctive form of communication develops into a sophisticated means of expression that is intertwined naturally into nearly every aspect of their life.

In performance, slight changes to pulses of light can indicate emotions that give evocative meaning to the art presented. In gatherings, the Acqsael often use light to coordinate their performances across a large group. In ceremonies, patterns help guide participants without interrupting the flow of the event. A dim, steady shimmering may be used to signify unity, while rapid flickering can give the alarm for danger.

The placement of light can carry deep meaning as well. When light is concentrated along the shoulders, it can emphasize one's identity or societal status. Storytelling or directional instructions may be emphasized by moving patterns along the arms. The Acqsael learn to interpret not only the brightness of the illumination, but where it appears on the body as well.
This Bioluminescent light is an integral part of the Acqsael communication. It is a means of expression, coordination, identification, and memory. Many Acqsael traditions have been preserved using patterns passed down from the elders to the general community. Like song and dance, bioluminescent communication is considered a living art, continually practiced, refined, and shared with Acqsael society.

== The Reef Binding ==

Harmony is essential to Acqsael survival. The Acqsael teach that no single voice should stand alone. The ocean is vast with unpredictable currents and a single tone can be lost, scattered, or overwhelmed by the power of the sea. But when many voices join together, their combined resonance carries farther, remains stronger, and is more easily recognized. This principle goes beyond communication and serves as one of the central foundations of Acqsael society.

Layered tones create societal stability. Just as a school of fish moves together as a whole rather than as individuals, the Acqsael believe a community prospers when their members respect each other's individuality yet work together in consonance. They do not see their society as the absence of individuality, but as the ability for many unique individuals to contribute to a strong society.

Before they can learn complex songs, intricate light patterns, or ceremonial dances, Acqsael are taught to be aware of the world around them. Students practice with music, dance, and light, learning how their contributions affect the larger group. They gradually create and introduce their own variations, learning where they fit in the larger patterns. They will develop unique harmonies, distinctive movement styles, and personal light expressions. Introducing their individual ideas, they learn how they add strength to their society while retaining their uniqueness. This philosophy is reinforced throughout their lives.

Reef binding ceremonies are the most important expression of this philosophy. During these celebrations, participants weave themselves into a single art form by combining song, movement, and vibrations with patterns of bioluminescent light. The individual voices remain special but become part of a larger voice. The results leave them with the remainder of their connection to one another. The ceremony affirms the connection between families, communities, and generations.

Harmony is a way of life to the Acqsael. Not just harmony between society, but also the sea around them. The lessons taught through the arts are conveyed through Acqsael society by a common phrase, "Many currents flowing together travel farther than any one current alone."

== The Sea Remembers ==

The Acqsael believe the sea remembers. Vibrations and songs are not lost but dissipate and are absorbed. Every sound, pulse of light, and movement leave an impression upon the world around it. They continue on, becoming part of the living patterns that move through the deep. This belief shapes how memory is understood. While there is written history, it is not isolated in this form but is also carried within a shared tradition held collectively by the Acqsael. Each performance, ceremony, and teaching becomes part of a living archive. All expressions are part of a shared resonance.

Through repetition and attentive listening, patterns are renewed, and variations are created as others weave their own phrases with the past. A performance in the present will contain fragments of earlier forms. Additions or subtle changes are made to sequences, preserving their basic ideas while creating something new by careful reconstruction.

Light, rhythm, vibration, and movement patterns are not preserved as fixed records, but as living organisms. Older forms are given new life by adding original expressions, as if the sea itself reassembles what was once scattered. Both scholars and performers work to preserve the past, but they also look to create something new through enhancing performances within this continuously evolving tradition. These performances remain alive because they are never really finished, only continued. Through this idea, the Acqsael preserve their past while honoring their present. They are not separate places but overlapping currents within the same living body of water.

The Premium Festival returns in 2026, celebrating the Currents of Myth. Shops will be hosted within its Tideswept Bazaar.

The Acqsael are a mysterious and ancient merpeople who dwell in the waters off the Western Harbor, near the northwestern region of Charl's Teeth.

For generations, the acqsael have remained within their shifting currents, their shimmering markets concealed among coral beds and bioluminescent grottos deep beneath the sea. Now, as this gathering returns for a second year, they once more extend a graceful invitation to those above. This summer, the acqsael once again extend their invitation to returning explorers and newly drawn wanderers alike, welcoming you back into their world beneath the waves for a second year of wonder within their markets. Rare wares, elegantly crafted goods, and raffles steeped in quiet mystery await in the drifting currents below, where seasoned merchants and curious vendors gather with creations shaped from materials found only in the deep.

In honor of this second gathering, the final evenings will again be set aside for unhurried browsing and quiet discovery. The acqsael encourage you to roam the reefs at your own pace, linger within the glowing caverns, and once more take in the distant songs that carry through the sea.

The 2026 Premium Festival will take place July 17 - July 26, with July 25 - 26 for shopping only.
