|description = Spiritually bond to your [[weapon]].
|mechanics = Adds +2 to [[Attack Strength]] (AS) and bonuses to [[CML]] attack/defensive strength when using the bonded weapon. To bond with a weapon, you must first venture to a [[Holy places|holy shrine]] to establish a spiritual connection between yourself and your weapon. Once connected, your weapon will become increasingly able to be bonded with as you use it in combat. You will not begin to derive benefit from your ranks until you and your weapon have sufficiently bonded in combat.

At each rank, your weapon gains a special ability that will randomly activate in combat. See {{boldmono|FEAT WEAPONBONDING}} for a list of these abilities. Upon mastery, your weapon will also gain the ability to attempt to return to your hand if it is [[disarm]]ed or [[hurl]]ed.
|additionalinfo =
=== How To Bond ===
To choose the weapon, you need to be holding your desired weapon type, visit a [[Holy places|holy shrine]], and {{boldmono|FEAT WEAPONBOND PRAY}}. After bonding to a new weapon, the warrior's spirit is set to 1.

>feat bond pray confirm
You hold your eahnor-spiked maul up in offering and mutter some prayers to Kai. After a moment of silence, a steely silver shaft of light springs forth from your eahnor-spiked maul and bathes you in its glow. Images of the eahnor-spiked maul from its moment of creation to the present flash before your eyes in quick succession. As the images and shaft of light fade away, you feel heavily drained but somehow more spiritually attuned to the eahnor-spiked maul.</pre>

==== The Bonding Process ====
When a Warrior trains in the '''Weapon Bonding''' feat, there is no immediate benefit. The bonding process requires extensive use of the weapon; the effects do not appear immediately upon learning the skill. Instead, the number of ranks the warrior has gained in '''Bonding''' acts as a ceiling to the available benefits.

=====Bonding Experience Requirements=====

As a warrior earns experience with the weapon, the bond periodically strengthens. Thanks to player research by Brute [http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?t=62627] it has been determined that the amount of experience required to advance to the next rank is equal to the Rank# * 100 same-level critter kills. E.g., a level 50 character would need to kill the equivalent of one hundred level 50 critters to advance to Rank 1. Advancement to Rank 2 would require '''an additional''' 200 same-level kills, etc. The cumulative total required to advance to Rank 5 is 1500 SLKs worth of experience (see [[#Weapon Bonding Table|table]]).

''Note: It is not necessary for the warrior to actually inflict the killing blow as long as they are credited with the experience.''

Typing {{boldmono|FEAT WEAPONBOND INFO}} with the weapon in hand will report a message that corresponds with the current level of bonding.

=== Bonding Bonuses ===
A bonded weapon provides +2 to AS and CML skills for each level of bonding the Warrior has achieved. In addition to the AS and other bonuses, the skill also enables a series of special 'effect' abilities, one per level. A warrior that has achieved 5 levels of bonding is fully bonded to his or her weapon; the weapon will then return to the warriors hand in about 5 seconds if it is forcibly removed.

==== Rate of Bonding Flares ====
{{boldmono|FEAT WEAPONBOND EFFECT <#>}} allows the user to choose a specific bonding flare. According to player research by Gnimble [http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?t=38784], special bonding 'flares' are not random, and happen on a regular basis. After a specific number of swings (increasing with bonding level), the weapon will flare.

Non-standard attacks, like those from the [[Combat Maneuvers|Combat Maneuver List]], [[Multi Opponent Combat#Multi-strike|MSTRIKE]], [[V'tull's Fury (1718)]], and as of right now, [[Unarmed Combat System]], suppress bonding flares, but the attacks continue to add to this count. Suppose, for example, a warrior was set to rank 4 flares, which occur every 10 swings, and was 3 swings away from the next flare. If that warrior were to then berserk, and swing 15 times, the next two regular attacks would result in bonding flares.

<section begin=intro />'''Favor''' is the currency of the [[Order of Voln]] used to both advance to a higher rank or power its [[symbol]]s. It is bestowed upon members by the [[Pantheon of Liabo]] [[Arkati]] and is gained by freeing (killing) [[undead]] or witnessing their release from their accursed plight.<noinclude>
{{TOC limit|2}}
== Gaining Favor ==</noinclude>

When a member of the Order of Voln bears witness to the release of an undead creature, that member receives favor.<noinclude>

====Favor Messaging====</noinclude>

<pre{{log2|margin-right=27em}}>You hear a sound like a weeping child as a white glow separates itself from the <UNDEAD'S> body as it rises, disappearing into the heavens. </pre>

A Master (rank 26 member) of the [[Order of Voln]] can also use the '''globe''' in the [[Master's hall]] to obtain favor if he or she does not currently have any. One must [[KNEEL (verb)]], [[TOUCH (verb)]], and [[KISS (verb)]] the globe to obtain this favor. This grants about half a revolution (approximately 500 units) of favor and consumes one [[deed]].<noinclude>

==Measuring Accumulated Favor==</noinclude>

Favor can be viewed with the [[Resource]] verb.

The globe can also be used to view a master's available favor. By{{mono| TOUCHing }}this globe, a Voln Master will receive a reading, measured in revolutions, of his/her approximate available favor. Each count or revolution represents 1000 favor. A member whose favor exceeds 2,147,483,647 units will receive messaging indicating that the number of revolutions is too many to count.<section end=intro /> There is a stored favor cap, but according to a [[GM]]'s response, this cap is an extraordinarily high number and probably hasn't been reached by any character.

If the globe is cold when{{mono| TOUCHed}}, the character has no favor stored.

====Globe Messaging====
<pre{{log2}}>
>LOOK GLOBE
You see Elanthia etched on a globe of pure silver.
>TOUCH GLOBE
You reach out and touch the globe.
The globe hums and spins around quickly.
You try to count the number of spins and figure it was at least 250 revolutions.
</pre>

In the above example the globe reading of 250 spins represents a minimum of 250,000 units of favor. The next globe reading is 300 spins. So the actual available units of favor is equal to or greater than 250k but less than 300k units.

Favor gained from releasing an undead is equal to [( character level &divide; 15 ) &times; creature level )]. Round up the result to the next highest integer. This assumes that the character releases the undead solo and the creature has sustained no previous damage.

The simple act of witnessing the release of an undead creature grants favor. The percentage of favor gained from witnessing, but not contributing to the release, is 30% for Voln masters and 20% for non-masters.
==Calculating Favor Gained==

The amount of favor gained from releasing an undead is both character and creature level based.

===Formula===

<div {{prettydiv}}><center>'''round up((Character Level &divide; 15) &times; creature level) = Units of Favor'''</center></div>

Note: This formula assumes a solo kill on a freshly genned undead. Less favor is gained when either observing the release or partially contributing to the kill.

Voln masters receive 30% and non-masters 20% favor when observing the release of an undead but not contributing any damage. It is not necessary to be grouped with the character/s who are actually doing the damage. It is also not necessary for the releaser to be a Voln member.

Example: A voln master, level 40, observes the release of a level 15 wraith. If the voln master had killed the creature solo, he/she would have gained (40 &divide; 15) &times; 15 = 40 favor. By just observing another character release the undead, he/she gains 40 &times; .30 = 12 favor. A level 40 non-master would have gained 40 &times; .20 = 8 favor.

===Examples===

1. Lvl 3 character, Lvl 3 undead<br>
<tt>(3 &divide; 15) &times; 3 = 1 favor</tt>

2. Lvl 15 character, Lvl 10 undead<br>
<tt>(15 &divide; 15) &times; 10 = 10 favor</tt>

3. Lvl 30 character, Lvl 30 undead<br>
<tt>(30 &divide; 15) &times; 30 = 60 favor</tt>

4. Lvl 75 character, Lvl 80 undead<br>
<tt>(75 &divide; 15) &times; 80 = 400 favor</tt>

5. Lvl 100 character, Lvl 100 undead<br>
<tt>(100 &divide; 15) &times; 100 = 667 favor</tt>

===Conversion Factor Table===

The amount of favor gained from releasing an undead is both character and creature level based. This table lists the multipliers used to calculate these values. To calculate favor gained, first select the appropriate conversion factor corresponding to the character's level. Second, multiply this factor by the creature's level.

For example, a level 63 character has a conversion factor of 4.200. At this level, the character will gain 4.2 units of favor per creature level. When this character releases a level 50 undead, the favor gained is [ round up( 4.2 &times; 50 ) = 210 ].
== Advancement Favor Cost ==

The following table includes the formula for calculating the minimum favor required to obtain each Voln step. The term level2 refers to the character's level and is read as level squared.

For example, level2 for a level 20 character is 20 &times; 20 = 400 and the favor necessary to advance from step 25 to step 26 is:

<tt>2500 + (202 &times; 45) &divide; 3)) = 8500 favor</tt>

The favor required for the next step is calculated when a character attempts to advance to that step. That is, it does not matter what level the character was when starting their advancement. If a character's level increases while gaining favor towards the next step, the favor requirement increases immediately based on the new level.
===Other Symbol Costs===
To determine the approximate favor cost of other symbols, multiply the [[Symbol of Return]] cost from the table above by the corresponding factor in the table below.

====Example====

To calculate the [[Symbol of Transcendence]] favor cost for a level 40 character, multiply the level 40 [[Symbol of Return]] cost (728 favor) by the transcendence factor (0.60) listed in the table below.

<center><tt>728 &times; 0.60 = 437 favor</tt></center>
|Try again. The weight of the material is reduced slightly, which means you may need more material.
|<pre{{log-inline}}>Things seem to be going okay, but this is more difficult than you expected. After grinding for what seems like an eternity you realize that the scribed pattern has been chewed away, but the remaining <material> doesn't look like anything yet.</pre>
!Success

While it is possible to dye the pieces at this step, it can cause serious bugs. It is best to leave them as-is.

==The Slab Cutter==
The slab cutter in the crafting room is used to divide the material into several pieces. Since a successful forging attempt uses the entirety of a piece of material, this cuts down on waste. To do so,{{mono| PULL }}slab-cutter, after{{mono| PUSHing }}to adjust the cut size, or{{mono| POKEing }}to reset it to cut the material in half. To find out how much material to use,{{mono| MEASURE }}the glyph.

==The Forging Hammer==
A forging hammer must be used during the forging process ({{mono|GET TONGS}}). Pieces made with a perfect forging hammer have an 8% chance to combine to make a perfect weapon.

Forging hammers must be attuned to the character in order make a perfect piece. When using a forging hammer crafted by another forger, the following message will indicate when the hammer is attuned to the forger.
::{| class="wikitable"

==Modifiers to Forging==
=== Statistic Modifiers ===
As described above, the following statistics affect the three stages of forging:
{| {{Prettytable}}
!Crafting
|[[STR]], [[DEX]], [[DIS]]
|-
!Forging
|[[STR]], [[CON]], [[DIS]]
|-
!Vise
|[[DEX]], [[DIS]]
|}

=== Racial Modifiers ===
A character's race and profession modify their roll when making an item. Characters that come from a race with a tradition of forging or crafting might have a bonus to those skills, possibly innate, or possibly from growing up in a culture where they would have grown up learning about forging.

=== Profession Modifiers ===
Since training as an adventurer does not generally involve practice at the forge, most professions suffer a penalty to working on the grinder and receive no bonus to forging. Those with exceptionally nimble hands avoid the grinder penalty, while those with thickly-calloused hands and a tradition of hard labor suffer less of a grinder penalty and a slight bonus to forging.
==Success Determination Calculation==

The chance to successfully forge an item is determined by:
{| {{prettytable}}
!1-500
|[appropriate forging skill (OHE, BR, etc.)]
|-
! -
|[wound/HP-loss penalty]
|-
! +
|[Forging stat bonuses averaged] (Effective Con bonus, Effective Dis bonus, Effective Str bonus)
|-
| ||{Comparatively, Grinder stat bonuses are (Effective Dex bonus, Effective Dis bonus, Effective Str bonus)}
|-
! -
|[material's magical-plus penalty (higher plus = higher penalty)]
|-
! -
|[material's size penalty (each "pound" of material being worked is a -1 penalty)]
|-
| ||(working larger masses of material at the forge is inherently more difficult)
|-
! +
|[forging hammer's quality modifier]
|-
! -
|[profession handicap]
|-
! +
|[Racial bonus]
|-
| colspan=2|<nowiki>--------------------------</nowiki>
|-
| colspan=2|{Chance of success}
|}

:1-500 RNG
:If RNG < {Chance of success} then SUCCESS.

===Weapon Quality Determination===
Once a '''forging attempt''' has been determined to be a success, an additional 1-100 RNG determines if it was actually an Extraordinary Success (ES) (a "best work" item, necessary in order to achieve a perfect weapon).

The forge's script/code suggests that a 5% chance of an ES was intended, with the hammer's ownership/quality providing a bonus, but the code evaluates to the two If statements below:

:If the forging-hammer does not belong to the weaponsmith, the % chance of an ES is 0.
:If the forging-hammer DOES belong to the weaponsmith, the % chance of an ES = the hammer's quality modifier.

Once a '''grinding attempt''' has been determined to be a success, an additional 1-100 RNG determines if it was actually an ES. The grinder's chance of an ES is a flat 5% chance. No modifiers of any sort.

'''At the vise''', the chance of an ES and a quality increase is determined by a 1-100 RNG vs. (the applicable Forging skill/50), and so the max possible is a 10% chance. A weaponsmith with an OHE forging skill of 400 would have an 8% chance of an ES when assembling an OHE weapon.

===Gift of Eonak===
[[Gift of Eonak]] will provide a second roll for the Grinder, Forging, and Vise steps of the forging process, and the better of the two at each step will be kept.

It does not provide a second roll when a success at grinding is followed by a roll to see whether an Extraordinary Success was achieved or not. Similarly, it does not provide a second roll when a success at forging is followed by a roll to see whether an Extraordinary Success was achieved or not. However, it DOES provide a second roll when a success at the vise is followed by a roll to see whether an Extraordinary Success was achieved or not.

===Summary===
To completely create a weapon, the following success/failure rolls are involved:

1. Grinding the hilt or handle:
:Item-creation success roll (Gift of Eonak provides a second success roll, the best of the two is kept.)
::if successful, an Extraordinary Success roll is made.
:::max ES chance is 5%

2. Forging the head or blade:
:Item-creation success roll (Gift of Eonak provides a second success roll, the best of the two is kept.)
::if successful, an Extraordinary Success roll is made.
:::max ES chance is 5%, but Perfect forging hammer can raise the chance to 8%.

3. Vise assembly of hilt and blade:
:Item-creation success roll (Gift of Eonak provides a second success roll, the best of the two is kept.)
::if successful, an Extraordinary Success roll is made.
:::max ES chance is 10% (Gift of Eonak provides a second success roll, the best of the two is kept.)

==Advancing Skills==
Learning to forge involves actually doing it. For each of the six skills, there are 500 ranks. The number of ranks one has can be seen using the{{boldmono| [[ARTISAN (verb)|ARTISAN]] }}verb.
===Increasing Skill===
For each sub-category of forging the chance of gaining a skill rank upon completion is approximately equal to the following:
{{Equation box|{{math|'''Probability <nowiki>=</nowiki> [500 - RANKS + ([[Logic]] Bonus / 3)]/500}}}}

'''"LOG Bonus" in this context was changed for all systems to (LOGIC BONUS / 3) by GM Naijin in December of 2020.

Given these probabilities with a 0 logic bonus, the average number of forging attempts required to gain 500 ranks is 3,397, wherein the halfway point in expected attempts is found at rank 483 out of 500. This is typically the figure quoted when players ask about forging time requirements. Alternatively, having a logic bonus of 30 reduces the expected number of attempts by 58% to 1,429. The halfway point with a logic bonus of 30 is found at 403 ranks, and the original 483-rank threshold represents being approximately 85% of the way to mastery (on average).

==Materials Available==
There are various types of wood available in different locations. For the most part, the metals are universally available.
===Tempering Oils===
In order to complete a head or blade, you must have the proper oil in the trough. You empty the trough by pulling the cork and then POURing the oil into the trough. ==Usefulness of Forging==
Forged weapon AvDs are increased over those of normal weapons at a flat rate; therefore, it is similar to increasing the enchant slightly. Below is a listing of the quality ranks, and their bonuses. Forged weapons may be blessed, enchanted, ensorcelled, and [[:Category: Weapon Enhancements|otherwise improved]] through various profession, merchant, and [[Premium Point]] services.
The '''n'ecare's''' movements are as fleet as a hare, rendering him difficult to see clearly, and his spidery fingers skitter constantly, as if the n'ecare was using them to taste the air around him. From the dark pools of gloom beneath his cracked brows, the n'ecare's eyes glitter in fanatical mirth, made all the more terrible by the rotting maw of his grin.
Leathery, ochre wings extending as wide as a giantman is tall, the '''aivren''' wheels and swoops with amazing dexterity. The aivren flies low over the landscape, snapping up anything remotely edible in its long, pointed beak or sharp, descending claws. Charcoal grey on the underbelly and a dusky ochre on the back, its speed often surprises its foes, allowing the aivren to strike the death blow before the opponent can react.
Aivren employ the wing swat [[creature maneuver]] popular with flying creatures.

The wing swat can change a target's [[stance]] as well as stack [[roundtime]] on the target.
An aivren swoops down over you, buffeting you with its wings!<br>
One of the aivren's wings swats the side of your head with a stinging blow, and you reel as stars appear before your eyes!<br>
Roundtime: 32 sec
Shadows suddenly converge, revealing the skulking form of a creature with horribly elongated extremities and twisted anatomy.
