Nalira had awoken early to find snow dust had blown through the window cracks, encircling her in a crystalline ring. She disliked northern winters and the drafty townhouse where the shrines were kept.
She suppressed her disgust as she got up from the pallet, feeling a cold jolt. She reminded herself that this was her choice and self-pity was pointless.

She wanted to distance herself from the critical comments and requests to return to the family business. She recalled her last conversation with her grandparents when she informed them of her plan to leave for the Turamzzyrian Empire. They expressed concerns about the dangers and appropriateness of her decision. However, she was determined to proceed with her plans, and nothing would change her mind.

She didn't know what hardships were ahead when the sisters left her at the shrines. She had moved from a luxurious house in Xerai, in the province of Laikyn, to a drafty townhouse in southern Solhaven.

Nalira crossed the room, hearing the wind whistle through the window gaps as she made her way to a rickety wash basin. She found the water in the pitcher had frozen. Sighing, she used her magic to thaw it, then washed quickly despite the cold. Afterward, she dressed in her cassock and chasuble, feeling slightly warmer. She never felt fully warm anymore, she not only missed the climate of her home but most of all her family.

Recently, she found comfort in the thoughts of her family. Even her strict grandmother was missed. But most of all, she cherished memories of reading with her grandfather in his library, sitting on the desk as they conversed back and forth in other tongues to help sharpen her use of them. They sat together, enjoying the warm spring air scented with lilies and lor trees from the courtyard drifting through the open window.

The Principality of Evashir let him and his family in, where he swore off summoning and once again, took up trade.

Nalira's grandparents are respectable tradespeople in the province. They are known for dealing in gems, jewelry and certain antiquities and for their being members of Lyx'Nijost: Order of the Stones. Nalira was brought up and trained in the trade as they expected her to follow in their footsteps. However, fate had other plans and before she could take up the mark of the Order of the Stones, she turned to the Mourners of Laethe.

Nalira also has two uncles and an aunt. One of the uncles is a prominent Priest of Eorgina in Laikyn. While the other has once again taken up the mantle of summoning. Her aunt has followed in the trade of her parents.
