It is not to be confused with the [[Basilica]] in general, which is broader term, and most often refers to the Patriarch's Palace. The Arch Chancellor of the Clerisy, [[Malevort Hexmor Faendryl]], has offices in both the Basilica Tower and the Patriarch's Palace. The whole complex of buildings associated with the Basilica are concentrated in the center city of [[New Ta'Faendryl]], and each Pentact division has its own headquarters building. The Palestra headquarters is historically known as "the Palestra."

Other Basilican sorcerers of the Rachis work out of the Basilica Tower as well. This includes the Scholars of the Valences, who control the [[Enchiridion Valentia]] archives, and sorcerers who monitor veil wards (such as [[Shieltine's Ward]]) under the High Magus on duty. But more generally, it is the divisional headquarters of the Clerisy, the branch of the Pentact handling research and education matters.
