These acknowledgments have become less frequent recently, but they remain a matter of record. Without a deliberate ret-con by the current GMs, there is no credible in-character reason to believe the Landing is anything other than a town on the edge of the Empire’s reach, now perilously close to being consumed.		While twenty-five years may seem like a long time, it pales in comparison to the Landing’s history as a free city in a free area of the world, which spans over 200 years. Many players—and certainly our long-lived characters—recall when the Landing was unquestionably independent. Even after the Empire began using the term "protectorate," its agents frequently referred to the Landing as outside imperial control. These acknowledgments have become less frequent recently, but they remain a matter of record. Without a deliberate ret-con by the current GMs, there is no credible in-character reason to believe the Landing is anything other than a town on the edge of the Empire’s reach, now perilously close to being consumed.

OOC, we believe a free frontier town is one that exists on the frontier and is not beholden to distant powers. A town that is free but not on the frontier is simply free. A town on the frontier but controlled by a faraway power is not free. As someone once said, "Adventure happens on the frontier," and we stand by that belief. 	If the Empire truly felt the town needed taken over, it'd happen. It'd be bloody no doubt, but it'd happen due to sheer number alone. (unless the Faendryl and Nalfein stepped in and the Fourth Elven War was waged with Landing as the backdrop, haha). What will happen in the future?
