While yew is common across most of Elanthia, yew trees growing near the eastern coast of Atan Irith grow slightly taller than average, and their wood is a distinct purplish shade known as vekalu. No advantage between common Elanthian yews and ekata yew woods exists. The primary difference other than wood color is in toxicity. While all yews can be toxic, taxine derived from the ekata is more potent than other yew varieties, even casual touching of yew berries and needles can result in imminent cardiac difficulties if not total arrest.<br />
