			As I was on my normal patrol of Illistim, I was approached by a worrisome-looking Aelotoi man. He was still struggling with the phrasing of words in Elven, but I was able to gather most of it. He’d carried an infant through the portal on the night 30th of Jastatos, he’d set her down near a tree stump when the kiramon began to pour through the portal, to keep the babe safe and to aid in the fight. When it was done, he’d gone back, and the child was gone. At the time, he’d figured her parents found her and assumed he’d see her again. Days went by, and even in the camp he’d tried to find her with her parents or a loved one, but he didn’t see her, and now he was worried something terrible had happened to her. I had him describe her to me. I have sketched with the descriptions, and we will attempt to find the child, whether she be in the city or the woods. I pray to the Gods she is safe.

			Below the scribbling entry is a drawing of a round-faced child no older than a year, almond-shaped eyes, and chubby cheeks. The hair reached past her ears and curled at the ends. On the right-hand side of the sketch are words that link with the different parts of the portrait. Pink hair, sanguine eyes, pale skin, and rainbow-hued wings.

			I regret to report that we have seen no signs of the child, nor any signs of foul play in the neighboring woods. I fear the worst and have told the Aelotoi man who had originally reported the girl missing that there’s been nothing. Poor babe…We have canceled any further searches for the child at this time.

			The page seems to be slightly water-damaged in certain spots, and smeared ink makes some of the words difficult to read.

			The curly-haired babe played gleefully in a nearby puddle as the assassin watched from the shadows silently. She giggles and squeals with joy as the water and mud spatter her face, while only 50 feet away, men, women, and kiramon die in the open field. The assassin moves closer, not making a sound as he moves; the small creature’s wings peek out beneath the tattered shirt twitch, as if signaling to her she wasn’t alone.

			Bright sanguine eyes gaze into the nothingness as her wings still, she stands on her two chubby legs and stumbles deeper within the foliage, nearly tripping, she grabs onto a nearby tree. Still watching from a distance, the assassin no longer pays attention to the combat on the field, but is entranced by this small, fearless child and follows her. The battle cries become distant before the child stops in her tracks, clapping her hands together and babbling as she spies what she’d been tracking, a small rabbit. It nibbles on grass while watching the child and soon becomes curious and hops closer. The assassin, remembering his orders, begins to turn away before noticing the child reaching out towards the rabbit, the very veins beneath her pale-colored skin blackening, her focus never leaving that of the rabbit.

			The furred creature opens its mouth to make its death screech, but it doesn’t. Its neck and body convulse; the assassin can even hear it breaking its bones from the fit, the visual, while disturbing, isn’t what made the assassin’s blood nearly turn cold; it was the strong stench of rotting corpses that suddenly filled the small area surrounding the small child. The very essence of death was swirling in the area before colliding with the small body of the child, leaving her weak.

			Her stubby legs give out beneath her, and her eyes flutter shut. The assassin watches the child for several long moments before stepping out of their hiding spot, the small girl beginning to suckle on her thumb sleepily as they approach. They manage a glance at the rabbit at the child’s feet, its body showing advanced stages of decomposition. The assassin pulls down his mask, revealing a smooth-shaven face.

			Moving his hands in a specific gesture, he sends out a thought to his neighboring onlookers, “I think we found something interesting for the Grandmasters of Ta’Vaalor, I’m leaving my post to turn it in to them. Erase its tracks and evidence.” Silence is his only answer as he removes a long black scarf from around his waist and swaddles the pink-haired child and ties her close to his right breast before returning the mask to his face and disappearing within the wooded foliage.
