			Jaecee steepled his fingers, using the tips to massage his the bridge of his nose. It was no wonder Mr. Delone drank... the girl was a handful. There was no small amount of regret at the idea of capturing her. It was necessary. Painful... but necessary.

			The reaction of her husband and those gathered around though. Savory. What path should he take with her? He feared he'd need to decide soon or someone might decide to just off her to shut her up. That someone might be himself. She was constantly testing her restraints. Constantly nagging... that mouth of hers!

			He could use her as a battery. That would certainly provide power to do a lot of things. The downside? Again, her mouth. The other option was looking more and more fruitful. Turn her. Make her a mindless puppet. Use her against those people she loved so much. Oh, such sweet agony. Seeing her as a member of the undead would crush their spirits just before she crushed their bodies.

			He realized he was laughing aloud when one of his subordinates was staring at him curiously. With a flick of his wrist he waved the minion elsewhere.

			He rose, and turned to face Leiana: "Tomorrow, we'll begin tests."

			Darkness bled into daylight. Or maybe it was nightlight? She wasn't sure. The pocket realm made it impossible to tell, really, and she'd not been let outside at all. In fact, she was pleasantly surprised that she'd been allowed to regain consciousness at all. Since the 'incident' with the net, she'd been giving them hell any chance she had gotten. They had grown weary of that quickly and now she estimated she'd been 'asleep' for several hours.

			At least the cage allowed a modicum of movement so she could work out sore muscles. She recalled Jaired's voice in her mind - "Use every resource you have, Leiana. You have to be creative if you ever get caught." They'd both known it was not a matter of if, but when, but it was never spoken aloud. She saw it in his eyes and she knew he saw it in hers. The Mages Guild had created a kroderine cage 'just in case', so it was no surprise to discover that the Fallen had created one of mandis crystal.

			"Kroderine can't hold an elemental."

			Jaired had whispered that to her one night in a crowd as she grew more and more nervous from the tone of the gathering and her participation in the defense of the Landing. She loved the town, this was a fact. She was not going to be caged and used as a battery for it, though. She'd recognized that night that for some, she was not a person. She was a tool for use in whatever way made the most sense.

			Unfortunately, she was not an elemental. This cage she was held within was not of kroderine, but her manacles were and when she'd felt them clapped on just as she was coming to from the first sleep spell cast upon her, she had struck out at the soldier looming over her prone form. Nothing had happened but her own grunt of effort and the soldier's gasp of fear as he jumped back and out of the way of her hands.

			He'd chuckled for a few moments, calling over his comrades and Jaecee to observe her frustration as she'd attempted again and again to incinerate them. All to no avail. Her only reward was the way they winced when she let out a scream of frustrated rage afterwards. And then had come the sleep and the mandis crystal cage.

			It wasn't so bad as cages go. She had a small chair and she'd made so much racket that she'd also received a scratchy, but serviceable, blanket. She'd immediately tried to contact Jaired but her thoughts were blocked. There were wards placed all around her cage and she had overheard them arguing about what to do with her.

			Harrying them every step of the way was the fun part. She'd gotten a few feet away before they caught her the first time. After that she had to have an escort for everything, no matter how personal the task. She'd managed to maim one of the soldiers by removing his eye when they'd brought her out of the cage for 'preliminary testing'. He'd leaned a bit close to her and she'd jabbed her finger into his eye, no magic required. After that, Jaecee moved her magically with a teleportation spell. Oh how she hated that spell. It was too close to one of Jaired's fogging spells. The Fallen laughed as she vomited from the sensation of being teleported, but only until it was expelled on Jaecee's shoe. Then the laughter stopped.

			She sat quietly in her cage as she watched the soldiers sleeping around her in their cots. She had but a few moments, she was sure, before they woke to begin the 'tests' once more. Just a few moments to plot her next move.

			The undead hordes of the Fallen fell in droves before the better prepared defenders of Wehnimer's Landing and the town's new Crystal Defense System.

			Undead were still able to make their way into town though and it was surmised that the tunnels running beneath the town were to blame.

			Despite the defenders' success, Lord Jaynon wondered whether the attack was more of a test to judge the new defenses. Leiana was in agreement as Jaecee remained far removed from the battle and slung taunts from afar.
