The community's future becomes tenuous as the same calamity befalls the town three times in as many years. Piecing together the evidence and the distorted accounts of those who were able to flee each time, visiting sages from the east conclude that the opal-flecked beaches, which the town is built on, are a "nesting" ground for ~~kracken~~. Whether eggs were actually laid at some time in the distant past, or whether the sands somehow cause the creatures to simply spring forth from the ether, the conclusion is that rebuilding the town will be a waste of time unless all of the sand is removed first.
