			"We have debated it for months," Rohese said gently. "Every argument for concealment was weighed against those for preservation and even destruction. In the end, we reached the same conclusion.”

			Alawien's gaze remained fixed on the city beyond the glass. "That their story belongs to history?" she asked quietly.

			"That history belongs to everyone," Rohese replied. "The journal reveals mistakes, certainly. Dangerous ambitions. But it also reveals truth. We cannot curate the past into comfort. If we suppress it, we become no different than those who sought to hide it in the first place."

			"They may not," Rohese admitted. "But they deserve the truth of their ancestor. And so do the Caleliths."

			At that, Alawien's jaw tightened almost imperceptibly.

			Rohese looked toward her friend. "Whatever happened between Maerion and Saereth happened centuries ago. Their choices are not yours."

			Hours later, far from the shining towers and marble bridges of her home, she stood before a pair of ancient doors. Above them, carved in the stone architrave, were the words: The Library of Biblia.

			Alawien paused for a long moment, one hand resting atop the satchel containing the journal.

			Then, without looking back, she pushed open the door and stepped inside.

			At last she found what she had been seeking: a narrow shelf hidden behind rows of neglected histories and theological commentaries. Few would think to search there. Fewer still would know what they were looking for.

			Carefully, she withdrew the journal from her satchel. For a moment she hesitated, her thumb tracing the faint indentation upon the worn cover. She thought of Maerion. Of Saereth. Of Rohese. Of the Library Aies and the glowbark tree standing watch over memories that refused to die. Then she slid the book into the empty space between two forgotten volumes.

			Stepping back, Alawien whispered a brief prayer to Gosaena and lowered her hand. The journal disappeared into shadow, becoming just another forgotten book among thousands.
