Alum is a brittle grey metal typically found in ancient riverbeds. Alum is unsuitable for use in weapons and armor due to its brittleness, however, it excels in its use as a lockpicking material. When found, it is almost always in a spherical shape, like marbles. Halflings were credited with its initial discovery, but they were not to first use the metal to craft lockpicks.
