Summary
- A town militia man announces Marshal Khylon's meeting on town defense at the courtyard of the barracks, so Sir Cryheart leads on to gather there. Militia member Casiphia arrives as well, before Khylon, to exchange some pleasantries. Mayor Leafiara tells her that her hard work hasn't gone unnoticed and she'll make a fine captain or marshal one day; Casi says she hasn't hurt her feelings and has no desire to truly be the marshal, but it was to be temporary and she did it for Thadston; Leafi agrees and says that was part of why she selected Khylon, in case bringing back Thadston takes longer than expected.
- Khylon arrives and greets everyone jovially, including "Lady C" and Captains Stormyrain and Shinann, and thanks the mayor for the appointment while saying not to worry--he won't even unpack his bags, as he bets Thaddy Daddy will be back real soon since he won't want the smell of dwarf in the barracks. He's serving until Thadston can come back, to help recruit and crack some skulls, and he'll lean heavily on the captains. He knows why Renpaw wants someone in the position, but the captains are good at what they do and he'll be here to take blame if it goes south. Meanwhile, his Guard Captain replacement is Dunigan, an old associate from his mercenary days.
- On to business, we're faced with problems from the [[::Brotherhood of Rooks|Rooks]], Rone, some new "Knave," and he wonders if anyone's seen Grishom Stone's "blood puppy" lately or rumors of Lich King Barnom Slim. Leafi also mentions Amos and Stephos DeArchon as suspects in the attack on Walward's wagons.
- First up, the Rooks.
- Berost says kill 'em, Thrassus says flush out the tunnels, and Sir Goldstr says run them out of town or make them join the militia.
- Cryheart says to keep in mind some if not all are allegedly citizens.
- Leafi begins to mention they've suddenly changed tactics in the past month compared to the year and a half before then, so Khylon interrupts asking if she's ever been married; she says no, just engaged, and he says at first marriages go great, but it fades in time, sometimes a month and sometimes years, and he figures that's her and the Rooks. She says if we presume she's behind it, then check wth the militia how their successful operations have gone, since Thadston clams to have been opposing them.
- Cryheart says perhaps offer a pardon and see what happens; Khylon says Puptilian tried that and it didn't work.
- Faerinn says to take a hard look at Stephos, as he's the only candidate who hasn't been attacked who has the means to start and arm a rival chapter of the Rooks. Leafi agrees that there seem to be at least two factions, and Khylon agrees Faerinn has a point. He (Khylon) says if someone's trying to move in on Rook territory, they'll go back to their old tactics.
- Khylon asks the captains for tactics and plans. Shinann says the militia hasn't been actively pursuing them as of late, and agrees with the second faction possibility since she's never heard the Rooks demand payoffs in front of a crowd.
- Stormy says in the past we've had some success finding common ground which has led to short periods of rest, and her plans would be to address the Rooks' leaders instead of its membership, which consists of some townsfolk and others career criminals. Khylon reiterates: how do we go at Mother if we're not to go cutting up citizens in masks. Stormy says request a meeting with her and go from there--if she's lost control, that should be apparent, and if she's pushed the current direction, that too should be apparent, so we'll know if we need to take her down or help her regain control. Stormy says issues with the Rooks under her leadership have mostly been small in nature.
- Khylon says we'll try that, but a Rook is a Rook and it's just a matter of time until we see. Stormy agrees they're untrustworthy, but better the demon we know than the demon we don't. She doesn't believe Mother is different, but is stable and things have been predictable. Leafi says she's already tried to request a meeting with Mother recently to no response and wonders if she's been captured or killed, but Khylon says maybe a new one.
- Lastly, Guarrin says if the Rooks are dependent on protection money for incoming ships, then cut off that flow of silvers with protection at the docks.
- Next up, Rone.
- Leafi says Rone issued her an ultimatum, but it seems hollow and a bluff worth calling since we've never seen this Rone kill. Also, Rone's opposing the Rooks, imitation Rooks, or whatever they are, so perhaps prioritize other things.
- Thrassus and Leafi both raise the possibility of leaving Rone be until after the Rook problem is solved.
- Khylon points to the flagpole in the courtyard, capped with a spear tip taken from Walkar's office after his death, and says Walkar would have dug a grave for Rooks and Rone. He says some see Rone as an ally, tool, or even a weapon, but Rone just represents more lawlessness. The citizens should look to the militia and guard for security, not the Rooks or Rone. He'll issue a warrant for Rone's arrest tomorrow, and meet with Guard Captain Dunigan and see if we can accomplish the same for the guard.
- Next up, Amos and Stephos.
- Khylon says Dunigan will look into them and he'll help if possible.
- Leafi says to look into the ownership of Dragonsclaw Arms over the past few years, as one of Mother's first meetings with the town was in the back alley there and Amos is moving in--as well as proposing renovations in Shanty Town, also Rook territory.
- Faerinn says check the Darkstone Daily while looking for Stephos, since one name seems to be staying out of their headlines... and being mad about the delay with the Steward of the Guilds decision appears to be the only stance the Darkstone Daily has taken.
- Leafi mentions the possibility of the Daily Darkstone potentially being behind some of the things they report, as something like Octaven's disappearance is either made up, information they somehow got before anyone else, or their own doing. Khylon asks Magister [[::Raelee_Svala|Raelee]] if she is missing. Raelee says she's no longer at the outpost and Khylon says that's Imperial code for yes and asks where she went, as he thought she was in a glass box. Raelee asks why he wants to know and he asks why she wants to be defensive. He thinks it's important to know if a mad mage with a grudge goes missing. Raelee says she didn't take demands from Thadston either, so Leafiara suggests asking Breshon or Cordarius instead. Raelee says Breshon is not here, but Cordarius knows, so Khylon says he'll ask.
- Leafi says we have to assume anything said here is compromised, but it could be used to our advantage if enemies act on what we say only for us to decide against the plan beforehand. Khylon says we're talking ideas, not specifics, so he has no worries.
- Next up, the unknown faction in grey that's attacked Rooks and Murdos. Faerinn seems to believe they're Stephos'. Leafi is unsure and says she wouldn't be surprised if they're Rone's, since Rone's ultimatum included the vigilante not coming alone--and yet we've never seen Rone followers this time. Opposing Rooks and Malluch also fits Rone.
- Dame Evia asks if any of the organizations being discussed here have been officially, legally designated as criminal organizations; Khylon says the Rooks have.
- Back to Amos, Khylon says he doesn't trust anyone who comes to town throwing money around, as Stone did that. Leafi says Amos is so dubious we're actually considering Stephos; Shinann says they could be working together; Leafi agrees and that's part of why she wants Dragonsclaw Arms ownership looked into, in case it's transferred from Stephos or an associate to Amos. Khylon says we'll dig into that.
- Last up, if Barnom Slim's spotted, that's easy: bless a blade and kill him. He tells Goblyn he's surprised Barnom hasn't come for Lich's Landing yet and Goblyn says she doesn't think he'll be coming for it in easy ways, or maybe it'll be time to be his again. Khylon says maybe it'll be time to bury him again.
- Casiphia takes her leave, saying it's been a pleasure. [[::Xorus_Kul'shin|Xorus]] notes that Amos and Stephos both have connections to Jantalar, the latter having imported weapons from there, and Khylon says nothing good ever comes from Jantalar.
Highlights - Comedic
Stormyrain says, "Merry eve, all." Radeek mutters, "Town faces blood, death, fire, an' d'struction...definitely has da makins of a merry eve I reckon." Speaking amusedly to Radeek, Stormyrain asks, "And when is that anything outside the norm for the Landing?" Speaking to Radeek, Leafiara acknowledges, "Well, it is our way as of late." Speaking to Stormyrain, Leafiara agrees, "Or as of always, sure."
Casiphia says, "...Mayor." Casiphia nods at Leafiara. Speaking to Casiphia, Faerinn says, "Things have gotten so topsy turvy she actually decried the Rooks last week."
Khylon says, "Thank ye Mayor for dis appoinment, as there will be no disappoinment."
Khylon says, "I'm servin' until Thad can come back. End o' story. I'll help recruit where we can, I'll definitely help crack some skulls and try to keep these streets clean, and I'll be leanin' heavily on the Captains." Khylon says, "I know why ol' Renpaw...or is it Renpae now? Heh. I know why he want'd someone in the position, but let's be honest, ye two ladies are good at what ye do." Khylon nods at Stormyrain. Khylon nods at Shinann. Khylon says, "I'll just be 'ere to take the blame if it goes south." Speaking amusedly to Khylon, Leafiara says, "Sheesh, if you'd explained that *before* the appointment then my decision wouldn't have needed nearly as much thought as it did." Khylon says, "Gotta keep ye on yer toes Mayor." Speaking coyly to Khylon, Leafiara says, "Right, because the rest of the town isn't any good at that."
Khylon says, "When ye get married...everything is great." Khylon says, "Touchin' all da time, laughin' all the time, flowers, unicorns, Glaesen Star trips, you name it." Khylon says, "But then it fades....in time. Sometimes a month, sometimes years..." Khylon says, "It fades." Evia says, "Then menfolk think they can stop obeying, which is wrong." Gutstorm drunkenly says, "Shumtimes 5 minootsh." Pukk says, "Huh." Pukk says, "I got married and was sacrificed on an altar that very night....she skipped a couple of phases it seems."
Speaking to Balley, Pukk says, "Well, we thought Stormy was Mother at first, but now we think that Mother is Future Leafi that came back in time." Khylon says, "We could drown da mayor and see if Mother vanishes." Speaking to Pukk, Chaoswynd says, "We meaning you, and the various voices in your head."
Khylon asks, "Is Octaven missin'?" Raelee states, "She is no longer at the Outpost." Khylon says, "That's imperial code for, yes." Khylon asks, "So where'd she go?" Faerinn asks, "Anyone checked under Cordarius's bed?"

Rooks are notorious for being untrustworthy." Khylon says, "If Mother is tryin' to make ye t'ink she's different...." Stormyrain says, "I don't disagree. But the demon you know is better than the demon you don't." Khylon says, "And yer thinkin' it..." Khylon says, "Den she's halfway won." Speaking to Khylon, Stormyrain says, "I don't think she's different, I think she's been stable and things have been predictable. I prefer that to this." Khylon asks, "Fair 'nuff Cap'n. We'll send another message. Mayor, maybe a new one?" Speaking to Khylon, Leafiara agrees, "I'll try again, certainly." Khylon says, "Containment is preferred to chaos. But containment shouldn't las' forever."

[Town Square Central]
This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Shayen disk, a black-tipped twilight grey wolf, the Keemar disk, the Kippe disk, an amber-eyed tawny range wolf, the Kiwoeachi disk, the Missandai disk, the Uskeye disk, some wolifrew lichen, a bottle of red wine, the Taulramil disk, the blue Shardner disk, a sleek ruffed lemur that is sitting, the Targetina disk, a mistwood serving cart with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and some stone benches with some stuff on it.

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

A young girl rushes by some traveling merchants in the street, navigating through them before slipping off to the edge of a dark alley where she hands what looks like a rolled-up scroll to someone in the shadows. A moment later they part ways, the dark figure stepping back out of sight, and the girl disappearing into a crowd of townspeople.
Speaking deeply to Radeek, Berost says, "As usual as well."
Faerinn says, "My guess is Thadston will show up halfway and try to rest Khylon for his job back."
Radeek sings thunderously:

Berost deeply says, "Jest kill all them different factions an be done wif it."

[General] Telagan thinks, "Not really - theoretically you could open with a large broadside but if you're boarding, no."

[General] Leafiara observes, "Another lovely rainy night in the Landing!"

[General] Roblar thinks, "Nordred fired his guns, and da nalls just dropped and fell."
[General] Zephyrn thinks, "I found it took ridiculous number of cannon hits to do much of anything so didn't seem worth it aside from the fun."
Speaking to Balley, Leafiara says, "Oh, good, was hoping either you or Stormyrain or both would be here in case someone has a proposal involving scrying."

A town militia man wanders by and shouts, "Marshal Khylon will be gathering inside the courtyard of the Town Barracks shortly to begin some open discussion on his plans and suggestions and ideas on how to help decrease the crime within town. All are welcome! The barracks are located along North Ring Road!"
Phokus says, "Read yer piece in da paper, good stuff."
Cryheart says, "Join... moving shortly."
Speaking to Phokus, Leafiara asks, "Which one?"

The east-west road continues, closed in on the south by the militia barracks and on the north by the twelve-foot-high wall of the city itself. The occasional thud of leather boots in unison upon cobbled pavement and the clipped shouts of barked orders reverberate off the modwir walls along this part of the road. The scents of leather, weapon oil and hearty cooking fill the night air. You also see the town barracks.

Gutstorm stumbles toward the town barracks before regaining his balance.
Speaking helpfully to Gutstorm, Leafiara says, "The gate."
High Lord Gutstorm moves toward a thick iron gate and then stumbles, making a total fool out of himself.
[Town Barracks, Inner Courtyard]
Stone walls wrap around to form a solid enclosure to the courtyard, the ground smooth and paved with dark cobblestones. Barely visible beyond the thick iron gate stretches North Ring Road and an expanse of the palisades of Wehnimer's Landing. A large two-story brick building dominates the far end of the courtyard, its roof topped with a black and grey flag. You also see a brilliant purple kitten wearing a purple collar clasped with a pair of crossed silver swords and a dark wooden table with an iron bucket on it.

Leafiara says, "The main concern is if he's healthy or not after Raznel's curse years ago... other than that no one could raise an objection against him."
Kiwoeachi says, "Little ones up front."

Speaking amiably to Casiphia, Leafiara says, "Ah! Lady Casiphia, hello."

Radeek says, "I'se hot enough wit'out bein set aflame."

Speaking to Casiphia, Leafiara says, "I truly believe you'll make a great captain or even marshal one day if you keep on your current path."
Casiphia says, "Thadston will be back soon."
[General] Cryheart thinks, "We are meeting just inside the barracks."
Speaking to Casiphia, Leafiara admits, "It was, yes."
Leafiara chuckles.
Speaking to Casiphia, Faerinn says, "If that is a thing you might be interested in."
Casiphia says, "I have no desire to truly be the Marshal. It was to be temporary and I did it for Thadston."
Speaking to Casiphia, Leafiara agrees, "And yes, we'll bring him back to his senses somehow."
Leafiara nods at Casiphia.
Speaking to Casiphia, Leafiara says, "Right, that was part of why I selected Khylon--just preparation for the worst case where it takes longer to bring Thadston back than we all hope."
Leafiara slowly empties her lungs.
Kippe whispers something to Chaoswynd.
Gutstorm drunkenly says, "Dish playsh needsh a darboard."
Casiphia leans against a large two-story brick building.
Speaking to Gutstorm, Leafiara says, "There's one inside."
Gutstorm drunkenly asks, "Why not out ere?"

Khylon grunts in greeting.

He appears to be a Dwarf of the Mordrakam Clan. He is stout. He appears to be past his prime. He has large steel grey eyes and bronze skin. He has long, thick deep red hair worn in intricate onyx braids. He has a square-jawed face, a broken nose and thick burly arms. He has a long kempt deep red beard set with tiny onyx axe-shaped clips. He has a missing eye and some missing fingers.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a battered orc hide helm ornamented with chipped troll tusks, some blackened steel prayerbeads, a small black leather eyepatch, a pair of dark mithril bracers, a dented mithril tower shield, a crisp militia uniform, a large sack, an old tattered pouch, a oiled leather pack, a mithril-bound orc hide scabbard, a large sack, a mithril alloy mesh kilt, and a pair of scuffed black boots.
Casiphia bows to Khylon.
Khylon grunts urgently, calling for assistance!
Speaking amiably to Khylon, Leafiara exclaims, "Mashal. Good eve to you!"
Cryheart says, "Hello Marshal Khylon."
Balley softly says, "Hello Khylon."
Speaking to Khylon, Goldstr says, "Evenin Marshall."
Khylon grunts happily, grinning.
Khylon says, "Evenin' ever'un."
Faerinn says, "Congratulations."
Khylon says, "Glad ye decid'd to make it. I thought I'd have us meet outside, even though we're in da barracks."
Speaking suddenly to Khylon, Leafiara says, "Oh, yes, where are my manners. Congratulations indeed, and I know we can all trust in you."
Speaking deeply to Khylon, Berost says, "Finally someone o' tha right stature an lineage."
Khylon says, "I heard ye all like da standin' in da rain somethin' fierce."
Khylon snickers.
Speaking to Khylon, Pukk says, "You're welcome."
Khylon says, "Lady C."
Khylon nods at Casiphia.
Casiphia smiles.
Gutstorm drunkenly asks, "Wotsha Marshill dooz?"

She is average height. She appears to be in the prime of life. She has long-lashed dark brown eyes and fair skin. She has shoulder length, curly bluish-black hair arranged in a twisted roll at the back of her head and held in place by some carved ivory beads. She has an oval face, a small nose and wide hips.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a suede-lined mantle of peppered wolf fur, a single-shoulder oiled leather vest, a wide leather baldric hung with a collection of various daggers, a trim black linen shirt left open at the collar, a slender clear crystal ring, a slotted leather belt displaying various tools and pouches, some crisp black brocade breeches, and some scuffed black suede knee-boots cuffed in grey fur.
Khylon says, "Ye were jus' too tall fer Marshal."

Leafiara says, "The Rooks, or at least something appearing to be them, have had a sudden change of tactics this past month as compared to the past year and a half before then..."
Speaking deeply to Khylon, Berost says, "Kill em."
Thrassus says, "Flush out the tunnels where they make their nest."
Leafiara says, "Thadston insists that he was one of the only things standing in the Rooks' way."
Khylon asks, "No offense Mayor, but...ye ev'r been married?"
Speaking to Khylon, Goldstr says, "Jess runs em out a town er join yer Militia."
Speaking curiously to Khylon, Leafiara asks, "...no, why?"
Khylon says, "Figures. No offense of course..."
Leafiara adds, "I am engaged though."
Cryheart asks, "Keep in mind, some Rooks are allegedly citizens of this town?"
Khylon says, "But let me explain."

Leafiara tilts her head at Khylon.

Speaking in Elven, Xayd says somethinng you don't understand..
Khylon says, "But then it fades....in time. Sometimes a month, sometimes years..."
Khylon nods.
Khylon says, "It fades."
Evia says, "Then menfolk think they can stop obeying, which is wrong."
Khylon says, "I figure that's you and da Rooks."
Gutstorm drunkenly says, "Shumtimes 5 minootsh."
Pukk says, "Huh."
Radeek mutters, "Dis is gonna be good...."
Khylon says, "It's been a long phase, but yer to the real part now."
Speaking to Khylon, Leafiara says, "Yes, for the sake of the argument, let's presume Mother's behind all this and has changed strategies. So here's my thought..."
Khylon says, "Da Rooks ain't nev'r chang'd."
Khylon says, "Dey nev'r will."
Thrassus says, "Then you see all the things that were there all along, but were too smitten to see before."
Khylon nods.
Khylon exclaims, "Exactly!"
Pukk says, "I got married and was sacrificed on an altar that very night....she skipped a couple of phases it seems."
Khylon points at Thrassus.
Leafiara says, "If there's any merit to Thadston saying that he was standing in their way, then in theory he should have been opposing their operations and militia members should have intel on how to move against them."
Khylon taps his nose.
Speaking slowly to Khylon, Goblyn says, "This is a ... strange analogy."
Gutstorm drunkenly asks, "Sho should we marry da rooksh off to da each utter, or did me mish da point?"
Khylon asks, "Is it?"
Khylon peers quizzically at Goblyn.
Speaking to Khylon, Leafiara says, "In other words, your own militia should be able to tell you how the successful operations have been working, and go from there. But Thadston never shared this with the public."
Khylon snickers.
Goblyn nods quickly at Khylon!
Leafiara adds, "Nor should he have."
Radeek says, "Quick...someone marry Mother."
Speaking to Khylon, Goblyn adds, "But maybe the living of this town are -very- strange in some times."
Goblyn looks at Khylon and breaks into a cheeky grin.
Radeek says, "I thinks Cryheart shoul' does it."
Speaking to Leafiara, Pietra asks, "You the Khylon whisperer?"
Balley softly says, "We really do not know much about Mother."
Khylon asks, "Captains, ye got any Rook thoughts?"
Balley softly says, "She just shows up when it suits her purposes."
Khylon says, "We know Mother probably bleeds like da res'."
Khylon snickers.
Shinann says, "I have never cared for them."
Casiphia says, "If we get the chance."
Speaking to Goblyn, Goldstr asks, "An Ye Lass still gones be swappin rings wid Crux?"
Casiphia nods at Khylon.
Khylon says, "I ain't meanin' yer big feelin's."
Khylon nods at Shinann.
Speaking drunkenly to Goblyn, Gutstorm says, "If yooz waitin fer dem to smoosh, yooz wait long time."
Khylon says, "Dis ain't a meetin' for feelin's."
Stormyrain asks, "I'm not sure what you're looking for. The conversation you're having and the one the Mayor is having..seem a bit different?"
Leafiara clarifies, "And just to explain, I was thinking that Thadston was simply blowing smoke trying to win his hearing and *hasn't* really waged operations against them in the past couple years."
Shinann says, "I know..."
Speaking shyly to Goldstr, Goblyn says, "... maybe."
Khylon says, "Tactics. Plans."
Pietra whispers something to Sacru.
Speaking to Balley, Pukk says, "Well, we thought Stormy was Mother at first, but now we think that Mother is Future Leafi that came back in time."
Evia says, "I smell smoke."
Shinann says, "We have not been actively pursing them of late, if that is what you are asking."
Sacru whispers something to Pietra.
Shinann says, "Sir."
Cryheart says, "Perhaps offer a pardon for all Rooks..and see what happens."
Khylon says, "We could drown da mayor and see if Mother vanishes."
Khylon snickers at Pukk.
Khylon smirks.
Speaking to Pukk, Chaoswynd says, "We meaning you, and the various voices in your head."
Cryheart begins chuckling at Khylon!
Khylon says, "We tried dat Cryheart."
Khylon says, "Ol' Pup did that once."
Pukk says, "Cay is still Rone though."
Khylon says, "Didn't work."
Gutstorm drunkenly asks, "Kin I be depooty mayer if ye drown her?"
Cryheart says, "Aye."
Leafiara says, "Pup tried a raid on the tunnels and that didn't work either." [actually, it might have been Thadston without Pup rather than both together, but I forget]
Khylon says, "Can't polish a terd. Still a terd."
Balley softly says, "There are many things that have been done in the past that never made sense and we have questioned often. I wish we really knew who this Mother is and why she showed up all of a sudden."
Radeek says, "Tis easy...set up a meetin wit' da Rooks...gits alla der leaders in one place...an kills em...cut off da head a da Selshis..so ta speaks."
Speaking to Goblyn, Chaoswynd asks, "What? You didn't know?"
Speaking to Khylon, Faerinn says, "I hope when you investigate all these attacks you take a good hard look at Stephos DeArchon. He's the only candidate that hasn't been attacked that has the means to start a rival chapter of the Rooks, and to arm them such as he has."
Leafiara points at Faerinn.
Speaking amusedly to Chaoswynd, Goblyn asks, "Maybe?"
Khylon nods at Faerinn.
Stormyrain says, "In the past we've had some success finding common ground with the Rooks, which has led to short periods of rest before a new leader will take over and make their play to create a name for themselves. If I had to make plans it would be to address the leaders of the Rooks versus the membership, since many of them are our townsfolk, and others are career criminals."
Kiwoeachi says, "I'm for all out war and carnage."
Speaking to Khylon, Leafiara agrees, "I'm inclined to believe that there are at least two factions of Rooks right now. I could be mistaken, but many things don't seem to fit."
Khylon says, "Honey hair has a good point."
Khylon nods at Faerinn.
Leafiara says, "Or perhaps only one faction and one impersonating faction."
Speaking to Kiwoeachi, Sareyna says, "I have raised you well kiki."
Faerinn says, "Regardless of what Amos says about the pylons its bluster. He's vague, because he doesn't have the information requested. He more concerned about us being impressed with him than actually doing something impressive."
Pukk asks, "Honey hair?"
Khylon says, "Let's be honest, if someone is tryin' to move in on da Rook's territory, they're gonna go back to their old tactics."
Faerinn grins at Khylon.
Balley softly asks, "Do you think Mother and Rone are working together? Or against each other?"
Speaking to Radeek, Stormyrain says, "See, we aren't too far off in our lines of thought."
Leafiara says, "Which, truly, is the problem in all of this--too many possibilities and difficulties sorting out agendas, motives, and identities."
Radeek says, "Faction er fiction...coul' be a ploy ta keeps ya guessin."
Speaking to Balley, Pukk says, "Yes."
Speaking to Balley, Leafiara says, "Hap and I have raised the theory that they're the same person. My friend Khy[lynnia] thinks Rone is perhaps a protege of Mother who's upset at not getting proper inheritance of leadership."
Speaking to Sareyna, Kiwoeachi says, "I won't say it's not selfish, empuff gotta empuff."
Evia says, "So two factions of outlaws then...."
Shinann says, "I do know I have never heard them demand payoffs in front of crowds... so I am thinking there could be a second faction at play."
Balley softly says, "I see. Well, I do not trust Mother as you know, I do not trust people who seem to think they have all the power."
Thrassus says, "I have."
Khylon says, "Dey gettin' bold."
Khylon nods at Shinann.
Stormyrain sighs slightly and rubs her temples.
Khylon asks, "So what's yer leader idea den Stormy?"
Kiwoeachi says, "I'd send in some really big guy to attract all them and then sneak in behind steal their plans see what they're up to with a small group of rogues."
Leafiara says, "It's as if the current crop of Rooks have reverted, or are doing a bad impersonation of Rysus' Rooks based on reading town history. That's my take, at least."
Faerinn says, "The current Rone seems to be the only one I've seen actively helping people though."
Thrassus says, "They attempted to extort Lylia when she was mayor for food aid during the blight."
Speaking to Goblyn, Pukk says, "We definitely know that Rone isn't Hapenlok though."
Khylon asks, "If we're not to go cuttin' up our citizens in masks...how do we go at Moth'r?"
Balley softly says, "I think Rone and Mother will get overly confident and end up killing each other."
Speaking bemusedly to Pukk, Goblyn says, "He will not be able to keep this secret to himself. I think maybe you are correct."
Felita asks, "Do Rooks wear masks?"
Speaking to Balley, Leafiara says, "Except I've never seen this Rone kill anyone yet, which is why I find their ultimatum to me amusing... but more on that when we get to the Rone part of the discussion."
Berost deeply says, "Bah, they be knowin what they doin. They put on the rook they get it."
Speaking to Khylon, Stormyrain says, "I think we request a meeting with Mother, and go from there."
Stormyrain shrugs.
Speaking drunkenly to Felita, Gutstorm says, "Wit long beaksh."
Khylon asks, "And what do you want out o' dis meetin'?"
Khylon asks, "And why not nab the hag right then?"
Khylon snickers.
Faerinn says, "Sounds good to me."
Gutstorm drunkenly asks, "And crack'er shkull?"
Leafiara interjects, "I've already requested a meeting with Mother and she's not responded, which just makes it all the more suspicious. I think it's possible she's been captured or even killed already."
Leafiara says, "No one's seen her in about three weeks now."
Stormyrain says, "If this is a case of her losing control, that should be apparent. If it's a case of her pushing the current direction, that should be apparent. Then we know if we need to take her down, or help her regain control since, for the most part, under her leadership the issues with the Rooks have been mostly small in nature."
Speaking dryly to Leafiara, Marijka says, "Or she's not the refreshing change of pace in leaders that you hoped she'd be, and is entirely uninterested in meeting."
Speaking to Leafiara, Goldstr says, "Actually me thinks ye should ignore Mother."
Khylon says, "Fine. We'll try dat route firs'."
Khylon nods at Stormyrain.
Speaking to Marijka, Leafiara agrees, "Very possible, just saying that it would be breaking precedent."
Khylon says, "But I'm tellin' ya, a Rook is a Rook is a Rook."
Sareyna asks, "Is a Rook?"
Khylon says, "Jus' a matt'r o' time until you see, dey a Rook."
Stormyrain says, "Yes. Rooks are notorious for being untrustworthy."
Speaking quietly to herself, Marijka mutters, "And a Rone is a Rone is a Rone."
Speaking to Goldstr, Leafiara acknowledges, "I'd rather at least attempt to get answers than go right to the killing, but... I do hunt bandits all the time, so I understand your perspective."
Khylon says, "If Mother is tryin' to make ye t'ink she's different...."
Stormyrain says, "I don't disagree. But the demon you know is better than the demon you don't."
Stormyrain shrugs.
Speaking slowly to Khylon, Goblyn says, "Until maybe they are ... something else."
Khylon says, "And yer thinkin' it..."
Faerinn says, "They say third time's a charm though."
Khylon says, "Den she's halfway won."
Goblyn mutters something about Kestrels.
Khylon nods at Stormyrain.
Speaking to Khylon, Stormyrain says, "I don't think she's different, I think she's been stable and things have been predictable. I prefer that to this."
Khylon asks, "Fair 'nuff Cap'n. We'll send another message. Mayor, maybe a new one?"
Khylon peers quizzically at Leafiara.
Khylon nods at Stormyrain.
Speaking to Khylon, Leafiara agrees, "I'll try again, certainly."
Pick a Bone with Rone
Leafiara says, "And this'll play into what we're about to say with Rone, too."
Khylon says, "Containment is preferred to chaos. But containment shouldn't las' forever."
Khylon says, "Well, Rone, is easy."
Leafiara peers quizzically at Khylon.
Khylon says, "But I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts."
Khylon says, "So...go."
Khylon nods.
Leafiara slowly says, "I'm not sure easy is how I'd describe it, but..."
Guarrin says, "If the Rooks are dependent upon their intake of silvers for ...protection of incoming ships. Stopping that flow of silvers would certainly get Mother's attention."
Casiphia says, "This will be interesting."
Casiphia nods at Khylon.
Khylon says, "Ye know me, ye know me."
Khylon nods at Casiphia.
Leafiara says, "Rone already gave an ultimatum to me to either issue some grand denouncement of all crime, or else justice would come for me."
Leafiara says, "I figure, call the bluff."
Khylon asks, "Stop 'em how?"
Pukk says, "We can always marry Rone off to somebody. That will be like containment."
Khylon peers quizzically at Guarrin.
Speaking to Guarrin, Goldstr says, "Good tinkin."
Speaking to Balley, Pukk asks, "What do you say? Want to marry Rone?"
Leafiara says, "Either I don't issue any denouncement, or I do issue it but include a denouncement of Rone, as a sort of lure."
Thrassus asks, "At the moment, Rone seems focused on the Rooks. Perhaps we leave them be until the Rook problem is solved?"
Speaking to Khylon, Guarrin says, "Prevent the Rooks from collecting. It occurred on the docks with Amos' ships the other day."
Pietra whispers something to Chaoswynd.
Speaking to Leafiara, Marijka says, "Rone has never been quite so enthusiastic a proponent of destroying crime as to stop it himself."
Leafiara says, "We haven't seen this Rone kill anyone yet, so the ultimatum seems hollow and worth risking calling it."
Khylon nods at Guarrin.
Sareyna says, "Yes let's marry Rone to Hap ..poor Rone would off himself within a week."
Khylon asks, "Wit' our militia instead and guards?"
Erienne whispers something to Leafiara.
Speaking drunkenly to Pukk, Gutstorm says, "Balley got like 40 daughtersh, maybe one dem marry Rone."
Speaking to Khylon, Goldstr exclaims, "Wid both!"
Speaking to Gutstorm, Pukk says, "40 daughters would be inhumane punishment for sure."
Speaking thoughtfully to Khylon, Leafiara says, "I suppose, precisely *because* we've never seen this Rone kill anyone, it's not all that great a risk to send our full forces after them..."
Leafiara says, "But this Rone is also opposing the Rooks, or the splinter Rooks, or whatever they are."
Faerinn says, "This Rone might be for a snatch and grab though."
Leafiara suggests, "Maybe we should make other priorities higher. But as always, open to ideas."
Khylon says, "Here's my thoughts, and ye'll be hard press'd to convince me oth'rwise, jus' sayin'."
Balley softly says, "No I am just out of a marriage. Do not want another."
Shinann says, "We do not want more vigilantism in this town."

Khylon says, "Ye appoint'd me for a reason. I'm open to conversations, but, dis is my course."

Speaking to Khylon, Thrassus says, "You are making sense to me so far."
Speaking to Kiwoeachi, Pukk exclaims, "But I only wore that mask to bed!"
Khylon says, "I'll meet wit' Dunigan and see if we can't accomplish the same for da guard."
Goblyn whispers something to Pukk.

[Town Square Central]
This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see an enruned thanot coffer, a pale-faced coppery barn owl that is flying around, a bottle-nosed yellowish brown bandicoot, a badly damaged iron trunk, a sinuous bone white serpent, some wolifrew lichen, a bottle of red wine, the blue Shardner disk, a sleek ruffed lemur, the Targetina disk, a mistwood serving cart with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and some stone benches with some stuff on it.

The night watchman, leading a group of deputies, strides swiftly in.
With great ease, the night watchman grabs Stiara and shackles her wrists.
"There you are! I got a tip that I'd find you here," says the night watchman.
With a keen eye, the night watchman glances over Stiara quickly. He says, "We'll not have you dying before sentence is carried out. Let's get you healed up, though there will of course be a slight charge for it." With that, a demure looking city official, evidently an empath, comes forward and heals all Stiara's maladies.
The night watchman then drags her off.
Leafiara amusedly says, "Oh, well, that solved that then."
Sareyna says, "Not from the pokey ya can't."
Kiwoeachi says, "Where'd ya go."
Leafiara says, "Got arrested."
Sareyna says, "She's in the hoosegow kiki."
Kiwoeachi says, "Nice."

Reinwulfe notes, "I appreciate the healthcare provisions made for convicts though."
