Call Lightning is a powerful spell that creates a cloud from which multiple lightning bolts will strike at a target. This spell has a 40 second buildup time which can be reduced by training in Spiritual Lore, Summoning. This buildup time is divided equally into four, 10-second, rounds. After the cloud has formed and is fully charged, a random number of lightning bolts, usually 3 or 4, will strike at the target.

Call Lightning will only function outdoors unless the below lore requirements are met.

Lore Benefits

Training in Spiritual Lore, Summoning can reduce the spell's buildup time. The caster receives a 1 second per round reduction for every 10 summoning lore ranks. The maximum reduction is 7 seconds per round at 70 ranks. With 70 lore ranks the total buildup is reduced from the 40 second base to 12 seconds.

80 ranks of Spiritual Lore, Summoning allows the spell to be cast indoors. Rangers with Nature's Touch (625) active only need 40 ranks to cast Call Lightning indoors.

Spell Messaging

In addition to normal messaging, this spell has messaging associated with the beginning of each round.

Initial cast:

incant 125

You utter a light chant and raise your hands, beckoning the lesser spirits to aid you with the Call Lightning spell... Your spell is ready.

You gesture at a hill troll.

Round 1:

You notice a small cloud form above a hill troll.

Round 2:

You notice the storm cloud begin to churn rapidly!

Round 3:

The storm cloud begins to build into a thunderhead!

Round 4:

You hear the rumbling of thunder as the cloud turns an ominous dark hue!

Lightning strikes:

Suddenly a lightning bolt explodes from the small thundercloud and strikes a hill troll with a brilliant flash!

  ... 35 points of damage!
Massive electrical shock to the right hand destroys flesh. What remains is useless.
The troll's war mattock falls to the ground.
  The hill troll is stunned!
Suddenly a lightning bolt explodes from the small thundercloud and strikes a hill troll with a brilliant flash!
  ... 35 points of damage!
Massive electrical shock to the left hand destroys flesh. What remains is useless.
A hill troll lies there, dazed and confused.
Suddenly a lightning bolt explodes from the small thundercloud and strikes a hill troll with a brilliant flash!
  ... 50 points of damage!
Powerful blast reduces the hill troll to a smoldering pile of ash!

The hill troll screams one last time and dies.

Use with locked boxes

If cast at a locked box which is on the ground, this spell will vaporize the container, spilling the contents. Be aware that boxes made of mithril, boxes which are enruned, or boxes with glyph traps will rebound the lightning to hit the caster rather than destroying the box.

Container Messaging

Suddenly a lightning bolt explodes from the small thundercloud and strikes a badly damaged thanot chest with a brilliant flash! Wow, quite charred!
The thanot chest is vaporized!

None of the items inside the box will be harmed, except for any scrolls, which will be burned (making them worthless in the eyes of pawnbrokers and unable to be infused), and silver coins, which will be melted into 'a rough slab of silver' which can be sold, for roughly half the value of the original silver coins, at any gemshop.
