Behind the Scenes

The name "Shadow Valley" probably derives from the phrase "the shadowed valley of desolation" from "The Colour Out of Space" by H.P. Lovecraft. It might further be influenced by "The Shadow out of Time", and otherwise alludes to the Empress Kadaena being known as "The Shadow", with subtle links to The Broken Lands. It is clearly alluding to a number of other stories, including an ancient Vedic myth regarding a serpent demon, and possesses a number of subtle language games.
