Trolls and Magic

For the purposes of the Animate Dead spell, the level of the troll whose blood a sorcerer has used in the creation of crimson salt crystals is important for determining Maximum Animatable Level of that sorcerer with those crystals. Below is a list of the common troll species of Elanthia, their level, and their general location in the world.

Most, if not all, types of trolls take double damage when hit by fire based spells or weapon flares, and most have regenerative abilities (self-healing, similar to empath spells). Trollish healing abilities can complicate troll hunts, as trolls can partially or even completely heal themselves while a player character is still stuck in RT after a swing or a punch.

Alchemists can extract essence of regeneration from the skin of any troll; however, some trolls, notably Agresh troll chieftains, are not skinnable.

Trolls Hate Fire

Most trolls take double damage rounds from fire, either from spells or flaring weapons. Furthermore, as ball spells can blossom for a second impact on the same target, it is possible to get multiple hits. If all of these effects are combined together, the results can be absolutely devastating. Combining a fiery ball spell with a fire flaring runestaff is certainly one of the most effective ways to kill a troll, as shown below.

You utter a light chant and raise your hands, beckoning the lesser spirits to aid you with the Fire Spirit spell...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a greater bog troll.
You hurl a roaring ball of fire at a greater bog troll!
  AS: +276 vs DS: +131 with AvD: +44 + d100 roll: +59 = +248
... and hit for 58 points of damage!
Burst of flames to right leg blackens kneecap.
The greater bog troll is stunned!
The greater bog troll screams in agony as the flames barbecue her flesh!
   ... 15 points of damage!
Minor burns to left leg. That hurts a bit.

The roaring ball of fire strikes a greater bog troll, blossoming into a much larger sphere of flame upon impact.
   ... 10 points of damage!
Minor burns to chest. That hurts a bit.
The greater bog troll howls in agony as the flames dance over her body!
   ... 20 points of damage!
Minor burns to chest. That hurts a bit.

** Your ebonwood staff flares with a burst of flame! **

   ... 25 points of damage!
Minor burns to right leg. That hurts a bit.
The greater bog troll howls in agony as the flames dance over her body!
   ... 20 points of damage!
Minor burns to left arm. That hurts a bit.
The greater bog troll's body goes rigid and collapses to the floor, dead.
The deep blue glow leaves a greater bog troll.
