By weight, emeralds are the most valuble gems in the real world, though value can be reduced by inclusions. In Elanthia, emeralds remain high in value. Emeralds are a type of beryl that are colored green by chromium or sometimes iron. Like all beryls, they are formed within water and therefore contain water molecules.[1]

Emeralds are symbols of many Arkati. Aeia and Imaera are each symbolized by the emerald due to their attachments to nature, while followers of Luukos favors emeralds due to the association with poison and snakes. Additionally, it is said that Koar has eyes of an emerald-green hue, which is related to the existence to the Eye-of-Koar emerald.

Elementally, emeralds are attuned to earth.

List of Emeralds

Note: The rarities listed are estimates and depend on the status of the treasure system in the area hunted. Average values listed are approximations and are generally taken from the sell values of a character selling gems with no trading bonus. See the Trading article for more information on variations of sell values.

a dragonfire emerald

Description:   Large and a brilliant transparent green, a dragonfire emerald displays a crimson glow deep in its heart. Despite the center's fiery appearance, the gem emits no heat. At times the glow suddenly expands, nearly filling the emerald with its bright red coloration. Then it slowly contracts until it is just a small glowing ember once again.

a dragon's-tear emerald

Description:   Tiny inclusions glitter in the deep green dragon's-tear emerald. The color of the stone is akin to forest shadows at the edges, but it brightens to a vibrant hue like sun-touched leaves in the center, where green and golden fire shine and shift constantly whenever the gem is turned. When light glances over its exterior at certain angles, it reflects back in a startling sky-blue shade rather than ordinary white.

a star emerald

Description:   Deep green, a star emerald combines a magnificent external luster with a fascinating radiant internal pattern. an eye-of-Koar emerald

THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS

There are two special uses for an eye-of-Koar emerald. (Click on [Expand] to the right to view spoilers.)

Group Fogging to the Sands from inside The Rift

To use it, the members of the group MUST have more than 5,000 silver coins. Then you simply RAISE it while you're in the Rift and you get transported, as observed below. All silvers will be taken when the ability is used.

>[The Rift]
Purple blood flows over the floor, making footing hazardous and slick. As it moves to the south, it slowly turns red, brought to life by the breeze flowing through. The walls squeeze in and out, forcing the blood to move south and east. The floor ripples beneath your feet as worms burrow through, tooth-filled maws breaking the surface violently then diving back below.

THA-THUMP.

>raise my emerald
You close your eyes and concentrate as you raise your Eye-of-Koar emerald.
The emerald flickers brightly, and the natural navette shape of the gem makes it resemble the blinking eye of a great wyrm. Your skin begins to tingle as the eerie feeling of being watched steals over you.

You get the pleasant feeling that one of life's burdens has been lifted from you.

The surroundings ripple, tinted with a vibrant green light, and your vision begins to fade as you feel yourself being pulled away.
[Altar of the Elder]
The ledge is more generous than it appeared from the lower stone platform, which now looks extremely narrow and far below. The view from here of the monumental ice sculpture reveals its top to be as superbly detailed as its other aspects. Incongruously, a pool of clear, sapphire-colored water lies between the ledge and an immense statue of a sleeping drake, its recumbent body curled around a large throne on the pool's northern edge. You also see a flight of steps.

Granting a Deed

It has one other use -- and this one can be used OUTSIDE the Rift (unlike the fogging feature, which is just limited to inside the Rift). If you have more than 20,000 silvers on you and you RAISE it, you'll receive a deed at the cost of the 20,000 silvers. This is true for every member in your group that has more than 20,000 silvers on them as well. This is also true in the fogging scenario -- if you raise the emerald with more than 20k + you will fog AND receive a deed. 20k for a deed is rather costly, but again, if you're in the Rift coins are just a waste anyway.
