Subject: Enhanced Nodes and Experience Absorption Changes

We are implementing some changes to experience and absorption, primarily to encourage more player interaction. These changes include the following:

Enhanced Experience Absorption In Major Gathering Places -- Major gathering locations in every major realm (see list to follow) will now enhance your rate of experience absorption, above and beyond what a normal node will provide! While most of these nodes are public, all CHEs will also receive this benefit in the Common Room (or equivalent) of their primary house (not annexes). MHOs may coordinate with their guru to purchase an enhanced node for a Common Room (or equivalent) in their building, provided the room is either open to the public or the MHO is sufficiently large and active to support a "members only" location.

Adventurers Guild Bounty Rewards -- The total amount of the experience rewards will remain the same; however, two thirds of the reward will be granted directly to your absorbed experience. The remaining one third of the reward will be granted as unabsorbed experience, as it is currently.

Logic Bonus Changes -- The benefit of Logic bonus on experience absorption has been changed from a multiplier of the base amount to an addition to the base amount. When on a node or in town, you will absorb an extra (Logic Bonus/5) experience every pulse. When in a hunting area, you will absorb an extra (Logic Bonus/7) per pulse. For most players this will result in a small improvement while on a node and no significant change when in a hunting area.

Enjoy!

Subject: RE: Enhanced Nodes and Experience Absorption Changes

The following change has been rolled in:

The Adv. Guild Bounty experience rewards will now be fully applied to your "to be absorbed" experience up until you become moderately "saturated". Any reward in excess of that amount will have half applied to your "to be absorbed" experience and half will be absorbed instantly.

For people who turn in their bounties while at a "must rest" state, this will result in about half of the instant absorption they have been gaining over the past week. For those who turn in bounties at less than "must rest" state, this will result less instant absorption (potentially none), and more time spent saturated.

>Would there be a way to code messaging that can be displayed when you type EXP (under the Lumnis Messaging) to show when you have an active RPA mod going?

Yes, and this is now live. Players currently under the effects of an experience multiplier Role Playing Award (RPA) can now tell via some added messaging appended to the EXPERIENCE verb's display.

Subject: HSN WEEK 3: TRIPLE-X: EXTREME EXPERIENCE EXPLOSION

Introducing Triple X: Extreme Experience Explosion - No, it isn't the latest Vin Diesel movie. Rather, it's a way in which all characters have the opportunity to advance more quickly by virtue of a weekly experience bonus. Here's how it works:

For the first 3 hours of game play each week, all characters have the opportunity to gain triple experience (base EXP + 2x base EXP). This is accomplished by gaining experience in any of the ways available in GemStone IV - everything from hunting to picking locks to foraging.

For the next 3 hours of game play each week, all characters have the opportunity to gain double experience (base EXP + base EXP).

Each week, Triple X begins counting down the 6-hour bonus once the character is absorbing experience. If the character is role-playing about with a clear mind at any time during the week, regardless of when the countdown started, Triple X is on hold until the character gains some experience.

And that's it! For 6 hours each week, every character has the opportunity to increase their experience gain so that they may more easily advance in levels.

Players will be notified with "in character" (IC) messaging when the weekly bonus initiates and when it expires. It is also possible to check the bonus by using the EXPERIENCE (EXP) command. For the purpose of IC reference, Triple X will be known as the Gift of Lumnis.

The Gift of Lumnis

The cloud-laden skies above Elanthia slowly parted and a glimmer of light held the world in the moment. Children stopped playing, and mothers and fathers stood in the wonderment as they gazed towards the heavenly glow. Scholars arguing with each other, patriarchs announcing wars, armies battling armies, all stopped to lift their eyes to the new jewel in the sky.

It was then that a soft voice spoke out; when it knew it had the world's attention. The voice was pure in clarity and tone as it rang across the land: "The day has come, children of Elanthia, when the turmoil and chaos of the world would pose great risk to the balance. The pandemonium of many wars and unnecessary deaths has risen greatly in these past moments and years, when pure wisdom and knowledge could have dissolved the strife. It is in true clarity where balance resides, where kings decide to forego wars for talks of peace and compromise. It is in true clarity that insight and hidden potential is born that can truly restore the world back to proper balance."

The heavens shuddered as the glimmer of light expanded, and slowly began to split apart. Small droplets of light rained down upon Elanthia, one for each person and being that stood gazing up at the sky. And the voice spoke once more as the droplets of light fell upon the foreheads of everyone: "That is why I have chosen to bestow upon you all a new gift of wisdom and knowledge. You may choose how you use this gift, but it is my hope that new potential will be born and the Great Balance will mend itself in time."

As the last of the droplets of light fell, the glimmer in the sky began to fade away. When it was gone, the children of Elanthia lowered their eyes and gazed about their world with the Gift of Lumnis. What happens to Elanthia remains unclear, but for the Arkati Lumnis... a new light is born.

Triple X & RP Awards

The bonus experience is additive, not multiplicative, with RP awards. For example, if a player has a 3x RPA and is playing for their first 3 hours of the week, then they will gain (3x base EXP + 2x base EXP), for a total of 5x base EXP every pulse.

Q & A

Q. Why is Triple X being implemented?
A. The purpose of this bonus is to help alleviate the concerns of casual players as they advance in levels, as the experience requirements may appear to be daunting for casual play.

Q. Won't this addition just make it easier for the power hunters to advance quickly through the game?
A. Players that hunt frequently in GemStone IV will also show an increase in advancement, but the proportion of increase is more in favor of the casual player. So yes, the power hunter will advance a little more quickly, but not so much more quickly that it will present a problem for the game

Q. Will I be losing the Triple X bonus if it has already started and I wish to role-play for a while instead?
A. No, Triple X only counts down each week if your character has experience to absorb. If your character has a clear mind, the bonus is on hold until you begin gaining experience again.

Q. If I only use 3 hours of my Triple X bonus in a given week, can the remainder be transferred over to the next week?
A. No, unused time does not accrue. The Triple X bonus automatically refreshes every week, regardless of how much of the bonus was used in the previous week

Q. Why Lumnis?
A. Lumnis is the goddess of enlightenment, wisdom, and knowledge. She gives counsel willingly, even to the dark gods. Followers of Liabo and Lornon alike may turn to Lumnis for guidance. For IC purposes, enhanced learning ability and enlightenment would fall under the domain of Lumnis.
