FIRE is the command used to launch a projectile from a bow or crossbow using the Ranged Weapons skill.

In order to fire a bow or crossbow, an ammunition bundle (arrows or bolts respectively) must be present in your inventory. Use READY LIST to choose the ammunition. This only needs to be done once. After the ammo has been chosen, hold the bow or crossbow in your left hand, then FIRE. By default this will use your preset TARGET, but you can also FIRE {target} to fire at a specific target.

The roundtime depends on the type of ranged weapon. For more details, see: Art_of_the_Bow_(guide)#Firing_Times.

>fire
You fire a faewood-shafted arrow at an ice hound!
  AS: +457 vs DS: +111 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +82 = +458
... and hit for 143 points of damage!
Blow shatters knee and severs lower leg!
The ice hound yelps loudly as it collapses to the ground in obvious pain and favors its mangled right hind leg.
  The ice hound is stunned!
The arrow lodges in the ice hound's leg.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

>blink hound
You blink at an ice hound.

For crossbows, it is optional to manually COCK the bow prior to firing. If it is not pre-cocked then the FIRE command will COCK/FIRE in the same action with combined roundtime.
