== Cleaning ==
== Reorganization ==
The site wasn't very well organized in terms of consistency in categories. I'm making an effort to get everything into cohesive layers of categories. Open up the [[:Category:River's Rest|River's Rest]] category and there are no longer almost 200 pages there, there are some pages that don't fit in sub categories that will remain in the RR category, but many of the pages have been only categorized under the subcategory, such as the Casler Huntington Storyline, or hunting areas, or Museum, it's still in process, I jump around.

I'm not exactly opposed to all-encompassing categories, but that didn't really exist in the first place, so I figure I'd put things in a sensible location before expanding if people think there is a need. There were also over 500 pages uncategorized and that has been cut to 30, mainly pages that are incomplete/abandoned efforts (not the tones, that I have a lot of additional recent info to add).
Will this page ever be cleaned out? Some of the information here doesn't really need to remain. It could be just kept in the history. Just a thought! [[User:BELATHUS|Belathus]] 12:59, 7 February 2006 (PST)

I have also reviewed the categories and tried to consolidate very similar ones or ones with one page. I have not touched categories having to do with creatures unless something seemed off (see [[troll wraith]]). I'm also paying special attention to the "Gemstone" group of categories that appear in the left navigation panel. I think these should be especially clean in terms of filtering information into the right subcategories as they are linked from every single page. For example, do we really need every wand listed in the Magic category? I think keeping them off the main Magic category page and in the Common Magical Items subcategory is more comprehensive.
: We'll probably archive it every so often when the page become unweildly to navigate. - Oliver ([[User:Anshou|User]] | [[User talk:Anshou|Talk]]) 18:53, 7 February 2006 (PST)

For the saved posts, does every saved post really need its own page? Isn't it easier in a lot of cases to consolidate them under 1 page (e.g. [[Major Spiritual (saved posts)]]). This obviously doesn't fit for every post, but I like to see the progression of things rather than go digging for the next change. I think grouping and/or linking between the saved posts for one topic is extremely helpful. [[User:VANKRASN39|VANKRASN39]] 17:47, 23 May 2014 (EDT)
== Standards of Titles ==

== How to Color Text ==
So, I'm making a list of [[Rogue Guild]] skills for the linked topic, and, I know that topics exist for each skill, albeit, all of them are stubby except the one or two. Then, I realize, the titles don't match at all. Some are capitolized, some are plural, some are singular, etc. Now, when I made the page for [[stun maneuver]]s, I believed that it would not be a proper noun. After our discussion about skills such as [[Polearm Weapons]], I realize that this should, indeed, be a proper noun. So, I suppose that now we're going to have to go through and turn all the combat maneuvers into proper nouns. Fun! Given this, I assume that Stun Maneuvers should also be plural. It's irritating that I have to go back and fix my work, but such is the lesson learned. Now, I suppose the question remains that, when dealing with proper nouns, which pages should be redirected, and which should be deleted? I'll leave the answer to that to our beloved admins, since I can't go through and delete pages. [[User:BELATHUS|Belathus]] 12:59, 7 February 2006 (PST)

Hey, its been a long time since I've done serious work on Krakiipedia, and I forgot how to color text. I have some text I want to make red, and I thought it would be way too ghetto to just link them to a non-existant page, though if it comes to that, I will totally do that. Any tips? : <nowiki><span style="color:red"> red </span></nowiki> will make the text in between the span and /span <span style="color:red">red</span>. I generally google any wiki formatting questions I have. Check these pages out for info and color numbering: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_color_formatting_help and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Using_colours. I think all of our wiki geeks who warred over wiki styles are gone, so unless you make an entire page hot pink font on a bright yellow background, use colors as you see fit. So, I'm wondering if we can (or even should) link to a particular heading within a page. On the [[725]] page, I'd like to elaborate on the specifics of each ability, but thought that making a page for each ability was a bit overboard ([[GUARD (minor summoning)]], [[EAT (minor summoning)]], etc.). So, I'm thinking I could just go into detail about each ability on the main spell page, and have the ability's name in the table link to that header. Any advice is welcome. :: Unfortunately, I'm working a table that has lots of different ways of showing special info already, including bolded text, underlined text, and the little cross symbol as well. If you have any further suggestions, you can see the table on the [[Minor Summoning (725)]] page. [[User:IRVINETOMOE|IRVINETOMOE]] 15:33, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

== We Need SysOps ==

So, as far as I can tell, we do not have any active SysOp accounts. The main thing that differs for a SysOp is the ability to move/delete pages and edit the main page. My policy has been to promote the most active contributors to this level when necessary, but I haven't really kept up on who has been doing what on KP in any significant capacity for a while, which is unfortunate. What this means is that I do not have a good idea of who contributes what or who might be interested in or appropriate for this responsibility.
== In-Universe versus Real-World Writing ==

So, how about this, you guys nominate yourselves and give a brief reason why. I'll look into the edit history of those nominated and as long as I don't see anything questionable, we should have a few more SysOps around. I'll check back in a week or so, since the new year is upon us.
I was recently browsing through the [http://starwars.wikicities.com/wiki/Main_Page Wookiepedia] (which is all about Star Wars, if you didn't get it) and they have a distinction between in-universe articles and real-world articles. Specifically, they divide the writing styles of the articles based on their subject matters. People, places and events are written from an in-universe perspective, essentially as if written from the perspective of someone who exists in that universe. Other articles, such as articles specifically about the two movie trilogies, the various novels and comic books, games, etc., are written with a real-world perspective. All the things that only exist in the real-world. It makes sense.

All of this said, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who contributes to Krakiipedia. Without those contributions this place would be an empty shell with a clever name. You guys are the best.
So, the meat of it. Do you think we should institute this sort of writing standard for Krakiipedia? I could see it benefit heavily in some areas from strictly in-universe writing.

(Man, I just reviewed this edit and scrolled down to see a similar message from 2008. That message is almost four years old. Wow. Still, I'm being sincere here, folks. Thank you very much for the work you all do.)

I think that'd be pretty cool. The stories being added already do that to some extent, and I think there'd be plenty of people willing to write IC about events they'd taken part in. People, places and events make the most sense, too, since those aren't likely to have a mechanical, numbers-esque component. Of course, I guess monsters wouldn't be considered "people" per se, so maybe a distinction between GM controlled/ story-unique people versus the NPC-monster variety. Does anyone actually use the KP skin option? This is something I added sometime close to the beginning of KP's existence, but haven't really had time or inclination to expand on. I've always thought that getting a nice, custom theme designed for KP should be done, but my skills just aren't up to snuff.
The RSS feed for the recent changes list doesn't work on KP because it's generated with a blank line at the start, so I've set up an alternate version at http://www.flooey.org/kprecentchanges.cgi. It's the exact same thing, it just strips the blank line. [[User:Ildran|Ildran]] 12:34, 16 January 2006 (CST)

== Question about Capitalization ==
I'm just merely curious if all the culture categories, or other such categories, should be capitolized. There are, currently, inconsistancies, which, sadly, is a pet peeve of mine. Being not a proper title, the word "cultures" should not be capitolized, I believe, and neither should the race name. IE, the category, Half-Krolvin Cultures, should be Half-krolvin cultures. Also, the individual race should be [[Half-krolvin]], not [[Half-Krolvin]]. [[Dark elf]] got moved, but I admit for messing up on the category for Elven Cultures (which should be Elven cultures). However! [[Skill]] titles became proper nouns, so I've no idea what the admin thoughts are on this. -[[User:BELATHUS|Belathus]] 09:39, 17 January 2006 (CST)

== Front page editing ==
: With categories, it doesn't matter much, since they're basically never linked in articles, they're just listed at the bottom of the page. They probably would look better as all being in title case. Articles definitely need to be lowercase unless they're proper nouns (which I think we decided that skill names were, for whatever reason), though, so the article names should be "Half-krolvin" and "Dark elf" even if the categories are "Half-Krolvin Cultures" and "Dark Elven Cultures". [[User:Ildran|Ildran]] 16:40, 17 January 2006 (CST)
The front page is looking a little stale, especially under the growing pains section. For instance the Ranger article is now pretty fully featured and I think it can safely be removed. In it's place might I suggest [[The Rift]] which is an article that could really benefit from expansion. (Also as an aside while I'm previewing this, it appears the 4 tilde signature is not working) 15:15, 2 September 2009 (EDT) ([[User:KANYDA]] )

: Hmm, let's test... Seemed it just now worked for me, the tilde signature. Maybe one of the SysOps may know more about it than me, though. [[User:DRIZZT-12|Adam]] [[User talk:DRIZZT-12|talk]] 17:54, 2 September 2009 (EDT)
:: You decided that skill names are proper nouns in the style guide. ;) Also, they're in title case everywhere I've ever seen, including in-game. I think whatever exists in-game is (or should be) the decision point. [[User:Anshou|Anshou]] 20:59, 17 January 2006 (CST)

::Maybe I'm just confused, on WP they use four tildes and two dashes and that puts the time and date and your user name. When I try it here four tildes puts just the time and date but no user name, I'll give it another shot.[[User:KANYDA|Drew]] 01:24, 3 September 2009 (EDT)
: I created all of those categories using title-case as that is what seemed proper to me. As for the articles, I wasn't entirely sure how to handle them because I didn't see anything on that, so I decided on title case again as the name of an entire race seemed substantial to me. :: I don't remember if it's set up so that anyone can move articles on this Wiki or not. If you can move articles, there's a little tab at the top of the page (next to article, discussion, etc) that says "move". In case you can't, I'll go ahead and move them. The key thing is if you could think of a case where an article name could be used in a sentence without being capitalized, then the article name shouldn't be (except the first letter, since that's forced). :: I don't think we should name them in the "Troll, Cave" fashion, even for heavily used types, and linking terms in that fashion in articles isn't really natural, which it half the point. Even for sake of clearer listings in categories, I don't think it's worth it. Better to just make a "Trolls" category and make it a sub of the "Critters" category. I think "[[Critter]]" is the most commonly accepted term for creatures or monsters in GemStone, so we should stick with that as the main category. I'll look into making a critter template too, to group common information such as level, type of critter, etc. It'll work similarly to the spell template. I'll also look into adding an article at [[Help:Style (critters)]]. [[User:Anshou|Oliver]] 08:06, 18 January 2006 (CST)

:: I agree, that sounds like the best way to handle it to me. BTW, how do you create templates? [[User:FURGLY|Brassaldennar]] 09:01, 18 January 2006 (CST)

::: They're basically just normal articles that exist in the Template namespace. [[User:Anshou|Oliver]] 10:04, 18 January 2006 (CST)

::: I actually think "Creature" is probably the best term to use. I think "Critter" is more an affectation that people who have played the game for a long time pick up, it's not used in any of the official documentation anywhere. [[User:Ildran|Ildran]] 13:16, 18 January 2006 (PST)

:: I'd like to vote for "creature" as opposed to "critter" as well. Fully aware we prefer to keep the template's contents to a minimum, there is a lot more I would like to see on every creature's page. Name, level, locations, BCS status, spells, abilities, skin, treasure, immunities, succeptibilities, AS/DS/boltDS/CS/TD(vs. each circle), to name a few. Sure it can always go in the body of the article, but including it in the template assures it gets there, and makes it that much easier to find. : (From the other thread, I too prefer "creature" to "critter".) But my question is, is it possible to have a column-headed list that you can click-to-sort (think Windows Exploder, where you can click-to-<sort | reverse sort> by filename, file type, date, size, et cetera) in a Wiki article? I know that you can do tables, and I'm cool with that, but I'm looking for something a bit more interactive. [[User:KRAKII|Krakii]] 13:55, 27 January 2006 (PST)

:: There are some MediaWiki people working on an expansion to the table system that would allow that sort of thing, but no, you can't do it currently. - [[User:Ildran|Ildran]] 14:26, 27 January 2006 (PST)

::: Is it worth putting these tables up as-is (perhaps multiple copies, sorted multiple ways?) for the time being? I grabbed the information that somebody-or-other posted on the GS Boards, stuffed it into a database, and mangled it for my own use from there. [[User:KRAKII|Krakii]] 14:50, 27 January 2006 (PST)

: In particular, one piece that I would very much like to see added to creature details is whether or not it is on the BCS (Base Creature Script), if that is something either that players can figure out from behaviour (many experienced players can) or that the [[GameMaster]]s involved here feel comfortable getting into. [[User:KRAKII|Krakii]] 14:50, 27 January 2006 (PST)

:: <ahem> In other words... yeah, I agree with what Ulthripe already said, eight days ago. [[User:KRAKII|Krakii]] 14:50, 27 January 2006 (PST)

: Since I have recently been making great use of Unravel/1013 with my Bard, I would suggest that the creature listing include approximate "mana available" numbers (from player-character experience, obviously) for both that Song and Mana Leech/516. I believe that these are different, since certain creatures "run dry" for my Bard while my Mage will still be Leeching mana from them. (The spell description for Unravel used to contain an explicit statement that half (1/2) of the mana Unravelled would be used to power the Song's renewal, but this has been removed from the current description. It may still be part of the spell's effect... just no longer in the description.) [[User:KRAKII|Krakii]] 14:50, 27 January 2006 (PST)

:: Great additions, I think "mana available" would be a great thing to track. Also, I think all the creature pages should just be big templates. Maybe with a text box for strategy/random comments at the bottom. For thoroughness and skimming ease. What do folks think? And for Finnigan's sake please sign your comments! : Gah, I hope this turns out right, first time posting on wiki. I was hoping for an ambitious project before I knew of Krakiipedia, but now that I do I was hoping to post it here, and wonderfully this discussion was here. I'm hoping to attempt and compile a list of box lock ranges, the type of traps that those creatures spawn with, the frequency of plated boxes in general and per creature type etc. Before doing this I wanted to ask if there were any objections to the thought for whatever reason. Reorganization

The site wasn't very well organized in terms of consistency in categories. I'm making an effort to get everything into cohesive layers of categories. Open up the River's Rest category and there are no longer almost 200 pages there, there are some pages that don't fit in sub categories that will remain in the RR category, but many of the pages have been only categorized under the subcategory, such as the Casler Huntington Storyline, or hunting areas, or Museum, it's still in process, I jump around.

I have also reviewed the categories and tried to consolidate very similar ones or ones with one page. I have not touched categories having to do with creatures unless something seemed off (see troll wraith).

For the saved posts, does every saved post really need its own page? Isn't it easier in a lot of cases to consolidate them under 1 page (e.g. Major Spiritual (saved posts)). This obviously doesn't fit for every post, but I like to see the progression of things rather than go digging for the next change. I think grouping and/or linking between the saved posts for one topic is extremely helpful. VANKRASN39 17:47, 23 May 2014 (EDT)

So, how about this, you guys nominate yourselves and give a brief reason why. I'll look into the edit history of those nominated and as long as I don't see anything questionable, we should have a few more SysOps around. I'll check back in a week or so, since the new year is upon us.

All of this said, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who contributes to Krakiipedia. Without those contributions this place would be an empty shell with a clever name. You guys are the best.

(Man, I just reviewed this edit and scrolled down to see a similar message from 2008. That message is almost four years old. Wow. Still, I'm being sincere here, folks. Thank you very much for the work you all do.)

I'd be interested in being a SysOp. For one, it'd be nice to be able to clean-up (aka delete) after myself when I'm, f.ex., testing something. KAGE 22:53, 4 January 2012 (EST)
Kage would be a fine sysop, he's one of the most active editors around. --Drew 14:38, 9 January 2012 (EST)
Thank you, Drew. - KAGE 15:46, 16 January 2012 (EST)
Hey, I'll second that emotion. I know Kage would do an outstanding job. - Mark 22:33, 16 January 2012 (EST)
Thank you, Mark - KAGE 06:13, 17 January 2012 (EST)
This is a bit old, but I'd be a SysOp if you are still looking for some. DAID 02:17, 24 November 2012 (EST)

New Users

Welcome to the few new users, yay! Apologies for taking forever to activate your accounts. Oliver Talk 13:07, 30 December 2011 (EST)

Sure! Let the riff raff in, why don't'cha! I mean...ummm...hi! - KAGE 01:19, 31 December 2011 (EST)

User list by number of edits

Is there a way to sort the user list by number of edits? It'd be fun to see a list of them. Drew 15:51, 16 September 2011 (EDT)

KP Skin

Does anyone actually use the KP skin option? This is something I added sometime close to the beginning of KP's existence, but haven't really had time or inclination to expand on. I've always thought that getting a nice, custom theme designed for KP should be done, but my skills just aren't up to snuff.

Just curious. Oliver Talk 12:07, 30 March 2010 (EDT)

I've checked it out a couple of times, but...not really. On Wikipedia I do use this option, however: (User interface gadgets) Use a black background with green text on the Monobook skin. Love it. KAGE 12:52, 30 March 2010 (EDT)

Front page editing

The front page is looking a little stale, especially under the growing pains section. For instance the Ranger article is now pretty fully featured and I think it can safely be removed. In it's place might I suggest The Rift which is an article that could really benefit from expansion. (Also as an aside while I'm previewing this, it appears the 4 tilde signature is not working) 15:15, 2 September 2009 (EDT) (User:KANYDA )

Hmm, let's test... Seemed it just now worked for me, the tilde signature. Maybe one of the SysOps may know more about it than me, though. Adam talk 17:54, 2 September 2009 (EDT)
Maybe I'm just confused, on WP they use four tildes and two dashes and that puts the time and date and your user name. When I try it here four tildes puts just the time and date but no user name, I'll give it another shot.Drew 01:24, 3 September 2009 (EDT)
Seems to work now, hmm. I was on another computer and using NoScript, maybe that was the culprit. 01:25, 3 September 2009 (EDT)
I switched out The Rift page for the Ranger page, and put some links into the current featured article page...more lively? Becca 19:47, 3 September 2009 (EDT)
Very nice. One other request could we get a front page link to https://gswiki.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Category:Legendary_Items somewhere on the front page? It's my favorite section and I know that of several other people, and one I'd like to encourage growth in. Drew 03:09, 4 September 2009 (EDT)
Another good suggestion! I added the link to the Legendary Items category to the In-Universe category link, as well as the Storylines category link because I'd like to see that fleshed out myself. Becca 17:23, 4 September 2009 (EDT)
