An Igaeshian Reader Divining Vial is a divination tool created by GM Kaikala and originally sold at Ebon Gate 2017 in Murk Manor. Along with the vials, various supplementary tools are available to aid in the divination process. Vials can be unlocked once.

The vials were created based on Elanthian Divination: An Overview of Faendryl Divination Practices, written by Lylia Rashere Faendryl.

Process

Adapted from release post by GM Kaikala

An igaesha summoned with a clean, empty vial in-hand will get funneled into the vial. The igaehsa will eventually escape through the glass, leaving behind smoke patterns as it makes its escape. Diviners "read" the smoke and interpret from there.

The designated reader is the original summoner of the demon -- he/she is the one who is able to read the smoke patterns. But the summoner -- if skilled enough -- can also put the demon to "sleep" (i.e. in a suspended state) via WHISPER. Anyone can then wake the demon up from the suspended state -- the person who does so becomes the new designated reader and will be the one who is able to 'read' the smoke so to speak. Once a demon is woken from a suspended state, it cannot be put back to sleep again. The designated reader can also WHISPER to 'set' an intention or purpose or similar that will be noted on the vial's tag.

How long the igaesha takes to escape can vary pretty wildly... it ranges anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 weeks of in-game time, though it's definitely weighted to stay under 24 hours. Tier 2 vials allow you to set an "alarm" via RUB -- if you're in-game when the demon escapes, in many circumstances, you'll get a message that it has done so even if it isn't where you might otherwise witness the escape.

Once the igaesha escapes, the smoke patterns are left behind for a fair amount of time (though eventually they will dissipate), and you can GAZE to get info about what symbols you can make out within that residual smoke patterning; Tier 2 also lets you OBSERVE for further info. Prior to the demon being summoned, you have the option of adding wax and/or positional arc reading elements (beads or notches) -- having these in place will net you extra info about the smoke patterns. You can PULL the info tag off of the vial once the demon escapes. You can CLEAN the vial at any point after the demon escapes... if there are still smoke patterns in the vial, this will effectively destroy them. Most vials allow you to clean them out 15 times for reuse before they need a really thorough scrubbing (i.e. recharging) to use them further -- this would either mean having a merchant 'recharge' it... or a sorcerer sufficiently skilled in these matters can CLEAN it. There will be some vials that are unlimited and won't need that thorough scrubbing.

User Requirements

The vials require qualified sorcerers to use properly. Summoning an igaesha into the vial requires the Minor Summoning (725) spell, and being able to summon an igaesha 100% of the time requires considerable Sorcerous Lore, Demonology and a Lorae'tyr-igaesha uncommon rune (being in a summoning chamber is highly recommended).

"Sufficient skill" for putting already-summoned igaesha to sleep and cleaning the vials is based on Demonology ranks and Divination Lore ranks. One does not need to have Divination Lore to do this if they have enough Demonology. "Traditional readers" -- female Faendryl sorcerers -- will require much fewer ranks to do these things. Currently doing either of these requires quite a lot of ranks in Demonology at minimum.

Tier 1 Vial

--------- IGAESHIAN READER DIVINING VIAL - ANALYZE INFO ---------
This vial is used for Igaeshian Reader scrying, which is a traditional form of scrying within the Faendryl community.

For general info on Igaeshian Readers, see: Elanthian Divination: Dark Elves

This item is Tier 1 of 2. The vial is currently empty and clean.

While the vial is empty and clean, you are able to add specially made positional arc dividers like beads or notches (ATTEND), wax (COVER), and a fresh tag (PUSH). Sorcerers who are skilled enough can hold the empty vial in-hand while summoning an Igaesha to funnel it into the vial.

When it is in use, you are able to: CLEAN, POINT (AT), WHISPER (to the vial), GAZE, and PULL the vial.

If your vial "runs out of charges", sorcerers with ample demon summoning skill are able to CLEAN it out more fully for you and restore your vial to 15 charges.

Once an Igaesha escapes the vial, the patterns it leaves will eventually dissipate -- the timer for that is based on "real time". Alarms (Tier 2) and the escape timer are generally based on in-Elanthia time and will usually be paused when the vial is placed in a locker or any other similar situation, as well as when you log out with the item on your person -- but note that this will not always hold true.

Alteration Information:
Igaeshian vials are made of clear glass, often encased/supported/etc. by metal frames.
The article must always include "glass" and it cannot be colored glass.
The adjective just needs to make sense in all situations (empty vial, vial with demon, etc.)
The noun must be one of the following: vial, jar, tube, flask, cruet
No long or show description alterations, unfortunately!

Permanently added positional arc dividers can be altered by skilled enough merchants.

The tags can be switched put using PUSH if you want the tag to look different. Do this
with specially made tags or you can use paper that's used with sealing wax.

Tier 2 Vial

--------- IGAESHIAN READER DIVINING VIAL - ANALYZE INFO ---------
This vial is used for Igaeshian Reader scrying, which is a traditional form of scrying within the Faendryl community.

For general info on Igaeshian Readers, see: Elanthian Divination: Dark Elves

This item is Tier 2 of 2. The vial is currently holding a sleeping Igaesha.

When it is in use, you are able to: TURN, OBSERVE, RUB, CLEAN, POINT (AT), WHISPER (to the vial), GAZE, and PULL the vial.

If your vial "runs out of charges", sorcerers with ample demon summoning skill are able to CLEAN it out more fully for you and restore your vial to 15 charges. This vial currently has 12 uses left, including the current one.

Once an Igaesha escapes the vial, the patterns it leaves will eventually dissipate -- the timer for that is based on "real time". Alarms (Tier 2) and the escape timer are generally based on in-Elanthia time and are will usually be paused when the vial is placed in a locker or any other similar situation, as well as when you log out with the item on your person -- but note that this will not always hold true.

Tag

Tags are for changing the appearance of the information tags that belong on the vials. The tags sold in Murk Manor are endless stacks of tags.

Tags hold some basic information about the reading. Before a demon is summoned, empty vials can have their tags switched out so that you can change their aesthetics, or you can use the same paper type used with sealing wax -- you'll tear it up into a limited number of pieces to use for tags. Once the demon has escaped, you can PULL the vial to remove the tag. The tag then lets you write on it to add notes, and you can also 'seal' it so to speak so that no further changes can be made to the tag's notes... consider this sort of like making the info official.

--------- IGAESHIAN READER DIVINING VIAL TAG - ANALYZE INFO ---------
This is a tag meant for an clean and empty Igaeshian Reader divining vial. To append it to a vial, hold the vial and this parchment in your hands and PUSH the vial.

This parchment is unlimited.

The parchment can be altered. It should always make sense for being small and attached to a vial, and it is definitely paper/parchment/vellum/etc. of some sort. You can add a long description -- just no show description.
-----------------------------------------------------

Add-on

Beads are for positional arc readings. They are permanent additions to your vials.

--------- IGAESHIAN READER DIVINING VIAL ADD-ONs - ANALYZE INFO ---------
This beads is used as an accent to assist in reading Igaeshian Reader scrying vials.

The beads can be used as positional arc dividers to help with arc reading. The supply is unlimited. You will need to ATTEND your vial while holding the beads. This will be a permanent addition to the vial.

Alteration Information:
The adjective can be anything that makes sense for beads. The article must remain "a cruet of", the noun "beads".

You can customize how the beads will show up once they are added to the vial:
  - wording that comes after the "vial" noun in the vial's long description - must include the word "beads"
  - wording before the word "beads" in the vial's LOOK description
  - wording that comes after word "beads" noun in the vial's LOOK description

The vial's LONG description will look like: a blahblahblah vial imbedded with nine perfectly round golden beads
The vial's LOOK will read as: A nonet of perfectly round golden beads is fused around the center of the vial [...]

-----------------------------------------------------

Wands are for creating notches on your vial for positional arc readings. They are permanent additions to your vials.

--------- IGAESHIAN READER DIVINING VIAL ADD-ONs - ANALYZE INFO ---------
This wand is used as an accent to assist in reading Igaeshian Reader scrying vials.

The wand can be used to make notches for positional arc dividers to help with arc reading. It does not run on charges - it is unlimited. You will need to ATTEND your vial while holding this wand. This will be a permanent addition to the vial.

Alteration Information:
The item itself must always be "an orb-tipped,(adjective),wand". It can have a long description if you want to show more detail.

You can customize how the notches will show up once they are added to the vial:
  - wording that comes after the "vial" noun in the vial's long description - must include the word "notches"
  - wording before the word "notches" in the vial's LOOK description
  - wording that comes after the the word "notches" in the vial's LOOK description

The vial's LONG description will look like: a blahblahblah vial adorned with snowflake-shaped notches
The vial's LOOK will read as: Inset around the upper edge of the vial, a nonet of variegated notches shaped like snowflakes are exactly equidistant to allow [...].

-----------------------------------------------------

Wax is useful for attaining more precise detail about a symbol.

--------- IGAESHIAN READER DIVINING VIAL ADD-ONs - ANALYZE INFO ---------
This wax is used as an accent to assist in reading Igaeshian Reader scrying vials.

The wax can be used to help give a more precise reading of the Igaeshian's escape patterns. It does not run on charges - it is unlimited. You will need to COVER your vial while holding this wax. The wax can be cleaned out.

Alteration Information:
The adjective can be changed, but it must always be a color that makes sense as being nearly transulcent once the wax has dried -- i.e. indicating a shade as "dark" or one that's naturally so should be avoided. The article will always be "a jar of", the noun "wax".
-----------------------------------------------------

Cases

--------- IGAESHIAN READER DIVINING CASE - ANALYZE INFO ---------
This is a case for holding Igaeshian Reader divining vials and the assorted add-ons (wax, beads, wand for notches, tags).

You can have the case altered so long as it makes sense for where it's worn. Long descriptions are fine; however, show descriptions won't even show up. Be aware that there is a permanent LOOK that nothing should conflict with.

This velvet-lined case has 15 total slots.

You can: PUT/DROP (your items) IN the velvet-lined case; PULL the case to retrieve items; TWIST or TWIST MY case WITH (slot number) to move between slots; and OBSERVE the case.

Exact duplicate empty (and cleaned out) vials can be stacked together in a single slot in groups of up to 10. No other item types will stack. Note that vials with active Igaesha will work in the same fashion as outside of the case -- putting them in a locker or certain other areas, as well as logging out while they are on your person -- will essentially pause the timer. If you ever feel an active vial is taking way, way too long, you can always pull it out of the case to give it a quick toggle (should reset it if something is amiss).

DO NOT LEAVE THIS velvet-lined case ON THE GROUND OR SIMILAR. The contents will be difficult to impossible to reliably replace.
