Summary

  • Hapenlok proposes constructing elemental barriers around the pylons in advance of Octaven's attack to avoid a repeat of them being quickly destroyed.
  • Shinann says he can't do that, as that magic hasn't been tested with the pylons before and it's uncertain what will happen, and he also didn't consult with the [[::Wehnimer%27s_Landing_Militia/saved_posts|militia]] before starting to move forward with his plan.
  • A night-long debate starts up about what to do with the pylons, but amidst it Hapenlok and Rhayveign begin to create the magical barrier.
  • Shinann orders militiamen to arrest them if they continue, so Hapenlok and Rhayveign eventually stand down.
  • Hapenlok resigns from the militia.
  • About four dozen Landing townspeople have taken sanctuary beneath the Outpost so far.
  • [[::Dennet_Kestrel|Dennet]] says warding the pylons was a good idea... weeks ago... but that Octaven might not come after them immediately since the Outpost is a high priority target as well.
  • Dennet gives Raelee a list of names. (Unknown who or why.)
  • Dennet says Rodnay's powers will be hindered early on by the fog.

Log

[fair warning: this is long and could easily have been more than twice as long]

Hapenlok's Proposal

[Wehnimer's, North Dock]

The dock's planks are dull and weathered from the salt spray of many seasons. Northward beyond the massive sea gates, a flock of ice geese passes, silhouetted against the sky over the dark blue waters of Darkstone Bay. The hulk of a derelict coastal sailer is tethered to the end of the pier. You also see an angular fire wyrdling, a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, the dark waters of Darkstone Bay and a stack of empty crates.

Hapenlok says, "Thanks for coming everyone."

Hapenlok says, "Stow your pets and stop casting spells for a bit. this may take a bit of explaining."

Hapenlok nods to a glowing blue-white pylon.

Hapenlok says, "This pylon has played as much a role in saving our collective behinds as much as a warrior with a kroderine blade."

Hapenlok says, "And it is vulnerable."

Shinann settles her gaze on Hapenlok, watching him intently.

Hapenlok says, "For those of you who were unaware, a Grand Magister named Octaven is coming. For Dennet. And his family, but also for all his "research projects" ...of which consists the Ithzir-human boy named Rodnay. Who is one of ours...despite what the Ithzir did to him."

Hapenlok says, "And what some of us tried to do to him."

Hapenlok blushes a nice shade of rosy pink.

Hapenlok says, "Now, we politely told said Grand Magister to pound salt. ....and things started blowing up."

Shinann folds her arms over her chest.

Hapenlok says, "Portals opened over ballistae and our original consignment of pylons ...and they blew up."

Shinann smiles at Bjornsong.

Hapenlok says, "Now, similar things DID NOT happen to the defenses in the Outpost, most likely due to the fact that the Grand Magister Dennet, a master of wards has been working on shielding said outpost from most attacks."

Hapenlok says, "He's a master and he's been working at it for months. Which....we don't have."

Shinann says, "He is good at setting up there."

Hapenlok says, "What I'm proposing is a group effort. That we wizards and sorcerers erect a barrier. Similar to ..."

Hapenlok makes a quick gesture while calling upon the powers of the elements...

Hapenlok gestures.

His body is surrounded by a dim dancing aura.

Hapenlok says, "The barrier I just conjured among myself."

Hapenlok says, "It is possible. But it's also not without risk."

Tsalinx says, "Should we only be using elemental magic? Spiritual and divine magic can protect as well."

Hapenlok says, "Five of us working together on the Reach managed to stabilize a portal that was dumping Taladorian creatures long enough for us to destroy it with a pylon."

Speaking to Tsalinx, Hapenlok says, "That would be unwise, the clash between spiritual and elemental...."

Hapenlok asks, "Has anyone ever cast spiritual dispel and elemental dispel on a creature...or person...at the same instant?"

Hapenlok says, "The result is ...unpleasant."

Hapenlok says, "Now, I'm not proposing that we affect the pylon directly, but that we erect the barrier around it."

Hapenlok says, "And I believe we are at the point where we have everything to gain, and not much to lose....because it's obvious that they're going to reduce our defenses as much as they can."

Hapenlok says, "When they arrive."

Safety, Authority, and Discussion

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "No wards here."

Hapenlok says, "A concern was brought up that it might make our people here a target, but ...the last few attacks, they've rushed towards the pylons anyway."

Shinann says, "No magic surrounding the pylons."

Shinann says, "It has never been tested and we are not going to now."

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "While I'm not going to be a doomsayer like I usually am, and bring up the old phrase about desperate times..."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "There is no discussion about it. You have no idea what will happen using magic with them."

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, "Magister, glad you're here."

Raelee glances skeptically at Hapenlok.

Speaking patiently to Shinann, Hapenlok asks, "Why did we requisition these, then if we have no way of protecting them?"

Hapenlok says, "I believe that it CAN work."

Speaking to Shinann, Tsalinx asks, "Perhaps Dennet can advise us on the proper methods to protect them? Rather than trying something with no knowledge of the outcome?"

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "To try to use them and I fought for them. If they end up with the same fate as the others... then we are no worse off."

Shinann says, "If Dennet wanted this town to have wards, he would have been working on that."

Hapenlok says, "Five of us working together held a portal for you to blow up. all of us working together, might be able to erect a barrier to safeguard the pylons."

Hapenlok says, "I rely on myself and others here."

Hapenlok asks, "And if anyone has a better way than what I'm proposing? That our elementalists erect an elemental barrier around the pylons?"

Hapenlok exclaims, "I'm all ears!"

Speaking curiously to Hapenlok, Cruxophim wonders, "What are you proposing, exactly?"

Arnylon says, "I still say booby trap them."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "Again, you cannot use untried magic with the pylons."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Ulkov says, "He's proposing focusing a shield on the pylons."

Speaking amusedly to Arnylon, Cruxophim ventures, "To do what? We're the ones using them."

Arnylon says, "If they are not destroyed, we remove the booby traps. If they are, then the enemy falls."

Shinann says, "This is not up for discussion."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "You know they'll come for them."

Speaking casually to Ulkov, Cruxophim remarks, "Seems like a fine idea to me?"

Speaking slowly to Arnylon, you muse, "Even in the best case, that would leave us out of pylons and our enemies only down a couple mages. Better deal for them than us."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Ulkov says, "Is only the untrusting captain that seems to be in disagreement."

Speaking slowly to Arnylon, Cruxophim reasons, "Why, when they can blast them from afar? Did they not JUST do that?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Rhayveign says, "Perhaps that needs to be stated a bit more clearly for others here to understand."

Tsalinx says, "Can we not reach Dennet to ask about the plausibility of this plan? Though he may not care for the safety of this town, he does have experience with the pylons."

Hapenlok says, "I had left a missive for the Mad Mage to come here....but..."

Speaking curiously to Shinann, Cruxophim wonders, "What's your issue with it, exactly? That you don't understand it?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "Making an assumption they were destroyed from afar and not locally might prove costly in the next few days."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Shinann says, "I understand wards."

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, "My proposal is to have a group of us erect a protective barrier around the pylons. Much like our personal elemental barriers."

Speaking wryly to Shinann, Cruxophim comments, "Apparently not."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Raelee says, "I did see your missive."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Shinann says, "I just do not think we should risk the pylons with unknown results."

Speaking curiously to Hapenlok, Cruxophim clarifies, "So a variation on practiced magic that you're well familiar with, then?"

Speaking flatly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim inquires, "What are the risks?"

Tsalinx says, "Shinann is right to be cautious - we need not be reckless in times like these."

Speaking wryly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim opines, "Inaction is reckless in times like these."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "Worst case? ...someone loses control while we're erecting the barrier and we all die. And the pylon explodes."

Shinann says, "Exactly."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "Much as we all burned when Elementz lost control on the Reach."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Silversoft says, "And ..isn't that usually what happens.. you all die and the empaths come in for clean up."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "Inaction would be to not have any pylons at all. Shinann convinced the Grand Magister to give us these pylons; she doesn't want to see them wasted by reckless attempts at the unknown."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "Then there's the not so worst case...it fails and we're no better or worse off than we were."

Speaking calmly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim states, "My opinion is that it's a fine idea. Don't lose control, then. But, of course, that's really up to Shinann."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "But we gave it a try."

You curiously ask, "Speaking of that incident with the Reach, that was short term stability for the portal, right? So even if Shinann changed her mind to approve this and it actually worked, would the wards last until tomorrow night?"

Speaking frankly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim opines, "I think it's foolish not to try and defend when we JUST saw them leveled within seconds."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "No. If we lose them, we lose them with the enemy attacking them."

Shinann says, "Not with experimenting."

Arnylon says, "I've a feeling if we do not protect them we lose them with virtually none of the enemy attacking them anyway."

Hapenlok says, "Look."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Arnylon says, "Prepare to be astounded. I agree with your idea."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "I'm not saying we don't defend them; but rather we should find the best way to do so."

You diplomatically reason, "If our enemies can attack from a distance, what if the wards are also created at a distance?"

Speaking slowly to Shinann, Cruxophim explains, "A calculated risk is not the same as experimenting, and it sounds like a fairly low margin of risk to me."

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "You rightfully called me out for not being supportive. This is what I'm proposing."

Speaking simply to Tsalinx, Cruxophim wonders, "In what other way do you propose defending them?"

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "Without consulting the militia."

Hapenlok says, "The other thing I can suggest is that we take Rodnay. And run."

Shinann says, "I got that letter and that was it."

Speaking wryly to Shinann, Cruxophim admits, "Look, it pains me to agree with Hapenlok as well. And no one's decided anything yet, that is -- I presume -- why we're here discussing it."

You suggest, "We could always try creating this ward on something much more mundane to see if the idea works out, then decide whether to try it with the pylon, having more information."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "Dennet delivered them here. He knows them better than we do. Surely we can get him to share a shred of his knowledge with us before we risk destroying them ourselves."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Shinann says, "I am just making my stance clear."

Hapenlok says, "If I had my druthers, i would have already tried."

Speaking wryly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim remarks, "Good luck getting Dennet to share anything."

Hapenlok says, "But I'm here talking about it. If anyone has any better suggestions."

Hapenlok says, "I'm listening."

You dryly say, "Dennet takes six months to tell us things, not one night."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "If he gave us these pylons, that's much more than a few words of wisdom about protecting them properly."

Speaking to you, Essyreme says, "I like the way you think."

Speaking casually to Hapenlok, Cruxophim suggests, "You could just ask Raelee."

Shinann says, "Dennet is not going to help us ward these."

Shinann says, "I will be surprised if they make it til tomorrow night."

Raelee mentions, "... simply sure your wards are unidirectional. It would be unfortunate for the magical force they generate to be... reflected back."

Speaking wryly to Shinann, Cruxophim agrees, "He barely conceded to give them to us, aye."

Ulkov says, "And there you have it."

Ulkov nods once at Raelee.

Speaking affably to Shinann, Cruxophim muses, "Good job on which, by the way."

Irar asks, "If I can be permitted to ask a small question... What will be the role of Quinshon in all of this?"

Speaking to Shinann, Tsalinx says, "I doubt he'll do much more either; he didn't even want to give us these pylons. He's not too shy for words though."

Speaking casually to Irar, Cruxophim reminds, "We have no idea."

Speaking dubiously to Irar, you say, "If Dennet's telling the truth and if Quinshon told him the truth, then he'll be assisting against the Hall. In some unknown way."

[someone fogs us to Voln, but Hap leads us back]

You flatly say, "So, yes, basically what Crux said--"

Deckits says, "If everyone was telling the truth, we likely wouldn't have yet more Imperials threatening to burn the town."

Speaking calmly to Raelee, Cruxophim inquires, "Svala, what's your risk assessment of this idea?"

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, "....yeah, that."

Hapenlok asks, "Have I wasted everyone's time? Or does this hold ...weight?"

Shinann says, "She just gave it."

Shinann says, "I thought."

Tsalinx says, "As I was saying...we should simply try harder to contact Dennet and demand he share some knowledge regarding the proper magical protections for his pylons. We need not make a decision yet...and we should do so with as much knowledge as possible."

Speaking to Shinann, Raelee says, "That was merely a... technical point."

You gently say, "Even if it doesn't hold weight, it's never a waste to consider our options."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Ulkov says, "Oddly enough, I think your idea is sound. But I'm just a blunt object."

Cryheart asks, "Hae ye brought up the idea of treetops?"

Speaking to Tsalinx, you explain, "Actually, we do need to make a decision now. They'll be here tomorrow."

Cryheart asks, "Or the roofs?"

Speaking to you, Tsalinx says, "Tomorrow night, rather."

Irar asks, "If I can ask another uneducated question, can we be sure that the symbols of Voln will allow his followers to leave the Landing despite the magic of Octaven?"

Speaking calmly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim informs, "That's not going to happen, there isn't time. At some point, this has to be on us."

Speaking to Tsalinx, Raelee says, "He will not bow to anything phrased as a demand."

Speaking wryly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim adds, "Not Dennet."

Cryheart says, "For those who want to move about and strike at the foes."

Hapenlok says, "You know, I rather was hoping a certain councilman would be in attendance..."

Speaking frankly to Irar, you say, "I don't know, but I wouldn't count on it."

Speaking to Raelee, Tsalinx says, "Demands can be phrased in many ways, political and threatening. Shinann demanded the pylons, and here we have one."

Speaking to you, Irar says, "It worked last time."

Hapenlok says, "Considering that he invented the damn things...in his own way."

Speaking to Tsalinx, Raelee says, "He gave them up because he understands it does not matter."

Speaking calmly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim reminds, "Which is exactly why I would not count on him conceding a further time."

Speaking lightly to Irar, you say, "Sure, but they could be better prepared next time. Those were just their initial strikes."

Speaking to Tsalinx, Arnylon says, "In short they're expendable."

Shinann says, "We have two."

Speaking absently to Arnylon, Cruxophim mutters, "He has the ones he needs, the rest are expendable."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "Perhaps - but unless we are certain that we must make this decision now, seeking more knowledge is only prudent."

Hapenlok says, "My only other suggestion is to take Rodnay somewhere. And make sure it's known he's somewhere else. And defend there."

Raelee says, "As for my risk assessment..."

Speaking calmly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim states, "Time is not a luxury we have right now. We have less than 24 hours."

Essyreme says, "I wonder if he gave us broken ones, considering how quickly the others were destroyed, from what you have said."

Raelee says, "Assuming the wards are assembled correctly and do not reflect the pylon's force back upon the operators..."

Raelee says, "I believe the risk is minimal."

Raelee says, "Though I also do not expect the wards to stand very long."

Speaking calmly to Shinann, Cruxophim states, "There you have it."

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, "A rush job never lasts long, but maybe it'll last long enough."

Tsalinx says, "I suppose you'll all be here channeling elemental magic for the next 24 hours then."

Hapenlok says, "Like I said prior to your arrival, the Grand Magister Dennet had months to get ready. We most likely have days."

Hapenlok says, "Or hours."

Speaking calmly to Tsalinx, Cruxophim guesses, "Just during the assault itself, I presume."

Hapenlok says, "If need be, I will."

Tsalinx says, "Hopefully you're alive when the fighting starts and not buried under this pylon."

Hapenlok nods at Tsalinx.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hlendril says, "Remember there is no probability, only certainty in war."

Shinann says, "I have not even had a chance to talk to Captain Stormyrain."

Hapenlok says, "Me neither."

Hlendril says, "Just because Octaven finds what she wants does not mean she`ll stop."

Arnylon says, "Well since the militia isn't responsible for making the decision for the entire town, her opinion will be but one."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "Well, that was a mistake on your part."

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "...or not."

Hlendril says, "She wants the Landing dead."

Cruxophim frankly reminds, "We don't have to do anything until the evening of, I presume. But I wouldn't hesitate to try anything, were it me; the last pylons were destroyed in mere seconds, with no defense we've no reason to think these won't be the first thing to go."

Arnylon says, "Or that they won't be destroyed long before the attack begins."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "So we must make this decision now but we don't need to take action until the assault? Sounds to me like we have time to determine if our plans are ideal."

Speaking to Shinann, Hlendril says, "I know how wars work, I'm a mercenary."

Speaking to Arnylon, Hapenlok says, "It's always a possibility."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Irar asks, "Would you expect hindrance from any reinforcements that might come... from elsewhere?"

Arnylon says, "I say try to ward them now."

Deckits says, "Should take Rodnay to Ol Tae Faendryl, see how he interacts with his brethren."

Hapenlok says, "Look. I lived in this town when it had no defenses other than a few odd citizen militiamen, and the residents themselves."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Irar asks, "The darkness, might it be staggered?"

Shinann glances at Arnylon.

Speaking calmly to Shinann, Cruxophim states, "Ultimately, it's up to you and Stormy. But I wouldn't shy away from using any means necessary just because it seems 'risky' to you... everything seems risky to you."

Shinann says, "No."

Hapenlok says, "And whatever adventurers could pull themselves together."

Speaking thoughtfully to Irar, Cruxophim states, "No way of knowing."

Hlendril says, "I`ve tried rallying men to our aid at Icemule, no response."

Speaking confusedly to Arnylon, Cruxophim wonders, "Why? There's nothing attacking them right now."

Speaking to Hlendril, Arnylon says, "Icemule currently has its own issues at the moment."

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "And if we manage to survive Octaven? maybe we'll have to discuss certain things, you, me, Thrayzar and Stormyrain."

Irar says, "Then we may be alone, despite those who might seek to aid us from afar."

Speaking to Arnylon, Hlendril says, "See."

Speaking to Hlendril, Tsalinx says, "From what I hear they wouldn't come to our aide unless the whole city melted into a river that ran in this direction."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon asks, "And in 2 minutes, or 5? When they destroyed the other town defenses, was the town under attack?"

Speaking to Raelee, Irar asks, "Might this be the case, Magister?"

Speaking to Arnylon, Essyreme says, "The town was peaceful, merry and bright."

Hapenlok says, "We rely on ourselves, as we always do."

Speaking confusedly to Arnylon, Cruxophim states, "Yes? Black fire, remember."

Speaking to Irar, Raelee asks, "Which case, precisely?"

Rhayveign exclaims, "Maybe it's no a bad idea to do nothin'.... sit back, be afraid of everyone and everythin' they are wantin' to do, then when it all hits the fan... blame it on no one takin' enough action. That's sound!"

Rhayveign starts chortling.

Hapenlok shouts, "WE RELY ON OURSELVES...LIKE WE ALWAYS DO."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Hlendril says, "Nonsense."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "And we're to assume they haven't already learned of the pylon's locations and aren't planning to do these in before the main assault? Seems kind of silly."

Hlendril says, "In war, allies are much appreciated."

Speaking to Rhayveign, Ulkov says, "You'd make a great militia captain with that attitude."

Shinann says, "We are being attacked from others besides the Hall."

Speaking wryly to Arnylon, Cruxophim reminds, "There are warning signs, same as last time. I don't see any warning signs, do you?"

Hapenlok says, "To the east, ogres besige the cities of Ta'Vaalor and Ta'illistim.....Icemule has its own particular set of problems."

Speaking to Arnylon, Tsalinx says, "Perhaps we should move them at the last moment."

Speaking to Arnylon, Tsalinx says, "If that's even possible."

Speaking to Raelee, Irar says, "Allies, coming from outside the region. Far outside the region, seeking a path in. Could the magic facing us prevent them from coming to our aid, much in the same way it may deny us free movement inside the town."

Hapenlok says, "Solhaven. And Vornavis? ....they're friends. But they have their own interests."

Hlendril exclaims, "Damn, Octaven wants to cut us off!"

Speaking regretfully to Tsalinx, Cruxophim explains, "They aren't terribly mobile."

Hlendril exclaims, "We must strike them now!"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Shinann says, "That is all the information you will get."

Speaking to Arnylon, Raelee says, "Even if she does not know the pylon locations now, it would take her... minutes to find them with a flying familiar. They are large. They are out in the open. And, they glow."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "We had like 30 seconds warning. So if we get 30 seconds warning we all rush here and in haste attempt to ward the pylons instead of taking the time to attempt to do it correctly. Seems like a sound strategy."

Hlendril exclaims, "A preemptive strike!"

Speaking wryly to Shinann, Cruxophim notes, "Alright, good to know."

Speaking heavily to Irar, you say, "I really don't want the Church to show up here if that's still what you're thinking about."

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, "All the more reason to try to protect what we have."

Cruxophim drolly deadpans, "Yes, heaven forbid we should work together."

Speaking to Raelee, Arnylon says, "My point exactly. Protect them as we believe we are able instead of leaving them here with...nothing."

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, "They've turned the tide enough times that I wouldn't discard them out of hand."

Speaking to you, Irar says, "That's not what I said."

Essyreme says, "I trust Shinann's judgment. Too bad no one else seems to."

Speaking to Irar, Raelee says, "It is possible. Land-based travel is likely more reliable."

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok asks, "Surely you can understand my reasoning, yes?"

Speaking to Essyreme, Hlendril says, "I do."

Rhayveign says, "We're bein' attacked by everythin'... if yer constantly fearin' the boogie man, the boogie man is what yer gonna find... eventually. The problem is yer so intently focusin' on that yer ignorin' the other threats at yer doorstep now."

Tsalinx asks, "Perhaps we should not be warding them, but rather hiding them. Let them think we are defenseless - then we can unleash them?"

Hlendril says, "It's just..."

Speaking surprisedly to Irar, you ask, "Oh, then which allies would be coming?"

Shinann says, "I entirely expect them to be blown up."

Speaking calmly to Essyreme, Cruxophim remarks, "I do as well, generally, but not if it's going to cost us."

Speaking slowly to Shinann, Cruxophim wonders, "Then why not defend them?"

Hlendril says, "Maybe we should not let them come but we should come to them."

Speaking to you, Irar says, "The Order of Roa'ters. Of Which I am the Grandmaster."

Speaking offhandedly to Hlendril, you say, "We don't know where they are."

Speaking to you, Hlendril says, "We must."

Hlendril says, "I am sorry Master Cleric but war is war."

Tsalinx says, "We all agree that regardless they are likely to be destroyed rather quickly. Perhaps we should use this knowledge to our advantage."

Speaking to Hlendril, you explain, "It would be nice to know, but we don't."

Speaking to you, Irar asks, "Would you refuse the call, when they come to gobble?"

Speaking curiously to Tsalinx, Cruxophim inquires, "How so?"

Hlendril says, "If only I was strong enough, only if father is strong enough."

Hlendril exclaims, "Ten Thousand Zweihanders are no match for that old hag!"

Shinann says, "They are targets. We might get to use them to take out some before we lose them. But, I feel we will lose them. I knew that when I asked for them."

Speaking curiously to Shinann, you venture, "So they're bait, then?"

Speaking slowly to Shinann, Cruxophim repeats, "So why not defend them? Bait, then?"

Ulkov says, "Bait placed solidly within our town. nice."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "I'm not sure if it's even possible; but if we can control them...we can unleash them at the proper moment - rather than letting them sit here shining like perfect targets from the beginning."

Flity asks, "I'm bait?"

Flity's zombie handpuppet moans softly.

Ulkov asks, "Why again is this woman entrusted with the defense and safety of this town?"

Speaking to Flity, Arnylon says, "Of course you are. It's that puppet."

Shinann says, "If everyone thinks I am going to announce what I know."

Shinann glances at Ulkov.

Ulkov stares at Shinann.

Shinann asks, "Want me to?"

Shinann grins at Ulkov.

Bold Moves

(Hapenlok starts to draw a circle in the snow around the pylon, as the bickering continues, shoving people out of the way as his progress is hindered. the circle is about 6-8 feet away from the pylon proper.)

Ulkov begins chuckling at Shinann!

Speaking to Shinann, Ulkov says, "Please."

Hapenlok mutters under his breath.

Hapenlok storms about, wildly swinging his elbows around.

Shinann says, "Hapenlok."

Shinann asks, "What are you doing?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "We discuss using Elemental magic to ward them...but perhaps we can use something like Ranger magic to hide them until they will be the most effective."

Speaking to Rhayveign, Hapenlok asks, "Scarab lover, are you in...or out?"

Speaking affably to Tsalinx, Cruxophim remarks, "That's not a bad plan, either... but Shinann might disapprove. It's magic, after all."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "This is not up for discussion."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Rhayveign says, "Doin' somethin' is better than doin' nothin'."

Hapenlok grins mischievously at Rhayveign.

Speaking to Rhayveign, Hapenlok says, "Join me, then."

Rhayveign joins Hapenlok's group.

Rhayveign nods at Hapenlok.

Shinann settles her gaze on Hapenlok, watching him intently.

Speaking calmly to Shinann, Cruxophim states, "You know my opinion well enough by now, but as I said... it's your decision. I'll respect it, even if I don't agree."

Speaking to Rhayveign, Hapenlok says, "Here's what we're going to do..."

Essyreme says, "At any point has Shinann proven herself untrustworthy? You people beat all."

Rhayveign turns an inquisitive ear toward Hapenlok.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Tsalinx says, "It seems like no one wants to take her advice anyways - if we are going to simply try and use magic to protect them, why not explore a more subtle method than making them glow even more. They will do nothing if they are simply the first to fall...but if they spring to life at the peak of the battle, the tide might be turned."

Irar asks, "I wonder. Given that the Outpost is now designated as a safe-haven, am I still prohibited from its premises?"

(Hapenlok leans close to Rhayveign and starts to whisper instructions.)

Speaking offhandedly to Irar, you say, "Could always find out right after this."

Speaking to Tsalinx, Shinann says, "We cannot do experimental magic."

Shinann says, "Which is what Hapenlok is proposing."

Arnylon says, "I don't believe this a matter of trusting or not trusting but of feeling what might best help the town."

Speaking to Irar, Ulkov asks, "You really wanna squat in safety rather than face glorious battle?"

Hlendril says, "Diplomacy is impossible now."

Speaking to Ulkov, Irar says, "I want to visit the shrine."

Speaking in Guildspeak to Rhayveign, Hapenlok asks something you don't understand.

Shinann glances at Hapenlok.

Speaking amusedly to Shinann, Cruxophim reminds, "It's not terribly experimental. They're mages. I think they understand elemental magic to some basic degree."

Speaking to Shinann, Tsalinx says, "I agree with you - but it seems like we're outnumbered. This tactic, even if we knew it to be safe, just doesn't seem to be the right one."

Speaking to Ulkov, Irar says, "I should think the threat of shades is irrelevant under the circumstances."

Rhayveign nods at Hapenlok.

With a flick of her wrist, Rhayveign draws the length of her twisted kakore scepter parallel to her body. The air around her churns gently and a look of perseverance crosses over her features.

Hapenlok taps the tip of his orase runestaff on the ground.

Speaking to Irar, Ulkov says, "So sneak in during the battle."

Speaking to Rhayveign, Hapenlok says, "All together now."

Hapenlok nods at Rhayveign.

Rhayveign nods at Hapenlok.

Speaking calmly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim warns, "I would not recommend attempting this without the Captain's permission. We need to be unified, not divided."

Speaking dubiously to Irar, you say, "I don't know about that. The shade actually got past their wards while Octaven hasn't."

You add, "Yet."

Speaking to Rhayveign, Hapenlok says, "A barrier....around this pylon."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "If you go against orders."

Hapenlok works his way out of a brass-riveted militia tabard.

Hapenlok drops a brass-riveted militia tabard.

Shinann says, "No."

Hlendril says, "Can we trust that Solhaven will aid the refugees."

Hlendril exclaims, "It's Solhaven. Solhaven!"

Speaking calmly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim reasons, "You're doing nothing but discrediting yourself, you know this... yes?"

Hapenlok kneels down.

Speaking abashedly to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "Story of my life."

Speaking wryly to Raelee, Cruxophim mutters, "She's afraid of her own shadow, it seems."

(Hapenlok places one palm on the ground as he starts to chant.)

Cruxophim glances at a brass-riveted militia tabard.

Hapenlok chants an esoteric incantation as small sparks surround his hands.

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "Stop."

(Rhayveign focuses intently on harnessing power for her efforts.)

Hapenlok appears to be ignoring everything going on around him.

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "I order you to stop."

(Hapenlok links arms with Rhayveign, as he continues to chant.)

Tsalinx says, "So this is the plan? Ignore the captain and light these things up as bright as possible so they can hold back their attack until they have disabled them? We are wasting the pylons by allowing them to be targeted before the true assault even begins."

Cruxophim nonchalantly remarks, "Might have to arrest them."

Shinann says, "I plan to."

Shinann says, "If they continue."

A uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman just arrived!

Hapenlok glances at Rhayveign.

A uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman just arrived!

A uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman just arrived!

Arnylon quietly says, "No don't. Stop."

The militiamen stand next to Shinann.

Rhayveign asks, "I'd love to know for breakin' what law? Defendin' the town?"

Neovik says, "Ruh uh."

Cryheart says, "Pylons are not our only hope."

Speaking to Hlendril, Tsalinx says, "It's unlikely that we can do more than slightly delay the end result."

Hapenlok stands up.

Rhayveign strikes the tip of her twisted kakore scepter cautiously against the ground and the air around her swirls lazily. A rippling little whirlwind suddenly forms near Rhayveign's feet, but quickly dissipates.

You say, "Got here almost as quickly as when I had Carenos here."

Speaking to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Shinann says, "If they take any further action, arrest them."

Shinann points at Hapenlok.

Shinann points at Rhayveign.

The militiamen nod.

Arnylon asks, "Looks like when he dropped the tabard he resigned from the militia. Exactly what law of the Landing are they breaking?"

Shinann asks, "Anyone else want to go?"

Speaking angrily to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "You would hinder me? ...I've bled for this town. And I've killed thousands for this town."

Speaking calmly to Shinann, Cruxophim reminds, "We don't take some risks, we may not survive this. And this risk is minimal, you've heard Svala's opinion. Perhaps think on that."

Cryheart asks, "Go to?"

Shinann says, "Jail."

Hapenlok glowers.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "Sounds like she's attempting to become dictator of the town."

Cryheart says, "Been there, done that...no thanks."

Hapenlok glances at Rhayveign.

Cryheart says, "Especially during Barnom Slim's tenure."

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon asks, "What law will he have broken exactly?"

Hapenlok says, "Allow me to confer with my colleague for a moment."

Shinann says, "You are annoying."

Speaking to Arnylon, Hlendril says, "And that's how democracy dies right."

Shinann nods at Arnylon.

Tsalinx says, "This is clearly a political argument, not a military strategy discussion."

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, "That's not a law. I'm listening."

Speaking to Tsalinx, Hlendril says, "Too late for politics, my lad."

Shinann says, "I am just stating a fact."

Shinann says, "Not arresting you."

Cryheart says, "Ok..folks simmer down."

Speaking to Hlendril, Tsalinx says, "And yet here we are politicking near midnight on the eve of the assault."

Hapenlok raises his luminous scroll and gestures.

Sparks begin to fly between the luminous scroll and Hapenlok's fingers.

With a sudden burst of enthusiasm, the sparks jump into Hapenlok's hand and he seems to glow with power.

Shinann glances at a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman.

Speaking to Tsalinx, Hlendril says, "That's one of the weaknesses of democracy."

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, "So you can't actually come up with a law he's breaking. Got it. Just that you don't wish him to do as he's doing as a non-member of the militia and so will have him arrested. Seems logical."

Cryheart says, "Focus on the topic of using what we have to defend this town."

Hapenlok recites a series of mystical phrases while raising his hands...

Hapenlok gestures.

A layer of raw elemental energy forms around Hapenlok.

A pulsating dark eye hovers watchfully over Rhayveign as she incoherently delivers a magical phrase...

Rhayveign gestures.

Her body is surrounded by a dim dancing aura.

Speaking to Arnylon, Shinann says, "Hush."

Speaking affably to Cryheart, Cruxophim remarks, "Any ideas for alternatives to defend the pylons?"

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, "I'm merely trying to clarify what law you'll have him arrested for breaking. So far you seem silent."

Irar says, "I've heard much about elemental defenses, but little and less about spiritual defenses."

Cryheart says, "Dinnae beat a dead horse."

Cryheart says, "Let's move on."

Shinann says, "I have said no meddling with the pylons."

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "This is something ...that needs to be done. If you want...arrest me...and explain to these people why one of their staunchest defenders sat in prison while ....one of their own was taken."

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "But let us ...finish."

A militiaman says, "We must construct additional pylons."

Speaking to Shinann, Rhayveign asks, "And you simply make law on a whim, moment to moment?"

Rhayveign says, "Seems convenient."

You neutrally comment, "I assume that touching even much more mundane militia weaponry than this would be counted as a crime--assuming the pylon is considered the militia's property, anyway."

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, "So your will is enforced for the entire Landing is what I'm hearing. Got it, dictator Shinann."

Speaking absently to Irar, Cruxophim admits, "Elementalism is generally better for defenses, from my understanding."

Shinann looks thoughtfully at a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman.

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "I gave an oath to defend, just like you did."

Tsalinx exclaims, "No defense will protect these pylons if they are sitting ducks at the beginning of the assault! Hide them and unleash them when they least expect it!"

Speaking surprisedly to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, you ask, "Do we have time?"

Cryheart says, "That would be a miracle indeed."

Hapenlok nods at Rhayveign.

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, "And what if you ever decide that giants or gnomes are not allowed inside the town gates, will they all be arrested as well? After all, it is your will."

Hapenlok walks toward Rhayveign.

The militiaman says, "Captain, on your orders."

Hapenlok kneels down.

Cryheart says, "Ye are stuck in mud."

Cryheart nods at Arnylon.

Rhayveign nods at Hapenlok.

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, "Even if they've broken no law, as this man has not."

Speaking to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Shinann asks, "What are you asking me?"

Rhayveign kneels down.

Cryheart says, "As captain of the militia...she has her authority."

(Hapenlok places one palm in Rhayveign's hand...and one on the ground, as wisps of flame begin surrounding his wrists.)

The militiaman says, "We will arrest them on your command."

Speaking slowly to Shinann, Cruxophim suggests, "I think they're asking if these two are to be arrested."

Shinann nods to the Wehnimer's militiaman.

Irar asks, "Arrest?"

Cryheart says, "And you might learn that quickly."

Speaking to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Hlendril says, "Do it."

Cryheart says, "And dinnae provoke."

Cryheart nods at Hlendril.

Shinann says, "The additional pylons sort of threw me."

Arnylon says, "She has the authority to usurp the law of Wehnimer's Landing? That's insane."

Cryheart says, "All take a deep breath and relaxe."

Speaking to Shinann, Hlendril says, "We do need more of them though."

Speaking calmly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim warns, "Look, I agree with you, but there are ways to go about this sort of thing. This is not the way."

Speaking to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Rhayveign says, "I'd like to know on what grounds, and obviously the captain doesn't know and has no grounds."

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon asks, "What other commands shall you give tonight, dictator?"

(Hapenlok traces a set of runes in the ground, as he continues to chant barrier spell.)

Speaking to Arnylon, Shinann says, "For you to shut your mouth."

Cryheart says, "The militia has control over the use of the town's defenses..but they do allow those to use em."

The militiaman says, "She acquired the pylons for us and they are trusted to defend the town. The Captain is protecting a resource. Meddling with it could result in jail time."

Speaking calmly to Rhayveign, Cruxophim informs, "Stephin is correct."

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon asks, "So I'm not allowed to speak my peace now? For what will you have me tossed into jail for for speaking? After all I am a giantman, perhaps that's illegal now too?"

You nonchalantly say, "Like I thought, then... it's considered militia property."

Speaking uncertainly to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Cruxophim inquires, "Stephin, right?"

Speaking to Arnylon, Ulkov says, "Oh, they hate it when you have an opinion."

Speaking to Arnylon, Essyreme says, "She has your best interest at heart, and you're not speaking peace at all actually."

The militiaman says, "We await your command Captain."

Rhayveign says, "Fine, you'd rather us do nothin'... have it yer way."

Hlendril exclaims, "Do it captain!"

Speaking to Mylenna, Arnylon says, "It looks like I'll be jailed for disagreement with the militia captain, under violation of no law, just because Dictator Shinann says so."

Cryheart says, "What you can do to use the pylons."

Shinann says, "All right... everyone calm down. Hapenlok, I cannot allow you to cast unknown magic that you even said might blow them up."

Cryheart asks, "Did they remind everyone how to use the pylons?"

Speaking calmly to Shinann, Cruxophim inquires, "Do you have any alternative proposals to this plan, Captain? Or do you intend to have the pylons be defenseless?"

Speaking to Shinann, Rhayveign says, "When this town burns because of yer fear of some imaginary boogieman, ya remember who was willin' to assist. And stop tryin' to victimize those of us tryin' help."

Speaking to Shinann, Rhayveign asks, "Am I clear?"

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, "I bow to your enforced authority."

Speaking witheringly to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "Then ..you ward them.."

Speaking wryly to Shinann, Cruxophim jests, "He's always saying things will blow up."

Speaking to Shinann, Ulkov says, "This is on your head.. captain."

Speaking to Ulkov, Arnylon says, "It's dictator, not captain."

Shinann says, "I do not think now is the time to experiment with them and no it is not on my head."

Ulkov grins slowly at Arnylon.

Ulkov says, "My mistake."

Hapenlok glowers at a brass-riveted militia tabard.

Rhayveign agrees with Arnylon.

Hapenlok chants a short phrase, embers leaping from his fingertips, as he clenches his hand into a smoke-shrouded fist.

Shinann says, "I fought for them while many of you told me not to."

Cruxophim amusedly remarks, "She's scared of my map, for what that's worth."

Arnylon says, "All hail Shinann, dictator of Wehnimer's Landing."

A militiaman says, "It's mighty convenient, a known associate of the witch, and a known puppet of the witch, are trying to meddle with the pylons."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hlendril says, "Thats not the only thing she`s scared of ye mayor."

Shinann says, "And he is working with her."

Ulkov says, "As if the witch cares."

Irar asks, "Puppet, eh?"

Arnylon asks, "Does the dictator have proof?"

Hapenlok takes off an etched militia badge.

Hapenlok drops an etched militia badge.

Speaking to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Rhayveign says, "Ya flatter me."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hlendril says, "First time we met I thought I`ll die in an instant."

Shinann picks up an etched militia badge.

Cruxophim diplomatically reminds, "Captain Shinann is just doing what she knows to protect our resources. I don't agree, but it's her call. They are militia property, after all, temporarily."

Hapenlok says, "Then take these symbols. I have no use for them anymore."

OOC intermission

Up to this point, there are 971 double-spaced lines above. To put that into perspective, the night Kayse was arrested was 670 lines, and last Saturday when Dennet spoke about preparations for Octaven was only 424 lines. After this point there were still (before editing) 3340 lines to go, starting from Hapenlok's line above to when Dennet leaves for the night. Most of it was as player-driven as what's above, largely just discussion of everything already mentioned, like:

  • Can we just hide or camouflage the pylons? (answer seems to be no)
  • Is there any chance there's something wrong with the pylons? (answer seems indeterminate, though Raelee notes that it would be a shift in behavior from Dennet if they were sabotaged)
  • What law would Hapenlok or Rhayveign have broken by warding the pylons? (answer seems to be that the militia has authority over weapons used for town defense)
  • Can we make decoy pylons? (answer seems to be no)
  • Would the wards last even if we did make them? (answer seems to be no)

So rather than keep going with what could have been another 1200-1500 lines of that, from here on I shifted to my usual editing of going back down to the bare minimum.

The Outpost Sanctuary

Cruxophim picks up a brass-riveted militia tabard.

Cruxophim works his way into a brass-riveted militia tabard.

Cruxophim poses in front of his militia tabard.

Cruxophim bats his eyelashes.

Some townspeople begin to emerge in the streets of Wehnimer's Landing, many wearing backpacks, packs, or other bags. Many are families, grouped in small clusters, as they form along the street where some Hendoran soldiers have arrived.

The Hendoran soldiers speak to the townspeople, "Look for the trapdoor in the cellar of the Outpost. Accommodations to house your families have been made available." With that, the groups of townspeople wander off out of the town gates, escorted away by the Hendoran knights.

Some townspeople, over four dozen, walk out of town and disappear towards the Hendoran outpost and their underground sanctuary.

A militiaman says, "If you need us again Captain, just call on us."

Shinann nods to the Wehnimer's militiaman.

The militiamen disperse, and one leans a bit to the right, and purposely pushes Hapenlok over before snickering and walking off down the road.

Shinann says, "Thank you."

Hapenlok stands up.

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok hisses, "Control your men. Or I will."

Shinann says, "I will see that he is talked to."

Speaking to Shinann, Hapenlok says, "Do more than that."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "Do not threaten us."

Starring Cruxophim as Slender Man

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "You look ridiculous in that tabard. take it off."

Cruxophim runs his hand over his militia tabard and preens his wings.

Cruxophim snickers.

Speaking bemusedly to his militia tabard, Cruxophim admits, "Luckily I'm slender."

Cruxophim moves just wrong, and the tabard tears in the back.

Cruxophim carefully mutters, "But apparently not that slender."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, "Gimme. I'll fix it later."

Cruxophim offers Hapenlok a brass-riveted militia tabard.

Hapenlok says, "Or burn it."

Hapenlok accepts Cruxophim's militia tabard.

Hap's Resignation

Another militiaman arrives.

The militiaman says, "Captain Shinann. About four dozen townspeople have arrived in the underground sanctuary in the Outpost. It's through a trapdoor in the outpost cellar. We've confirmed them, and tallied number and names. I'll send you list tomorrow morning." The militiaman walks off.

A uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman just arrived!

A militiaman jokes, "Let's get along and let pylons be pylons..." He snickers.

A militiaman jokes, "All of these issues and complaints, we're just pylon on work for the Mayor..." He snickers.

A militiaman shrugs, "The best way to defend the pylons is hand over that creepy boy." [again, imagine tons more debate in between these jokes]

Speaking calmly to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Cruxophim reminds, "He's one of ours, different though he may be, and I would do the exact same for you."

Speaking to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Shinann says, "We will not be handing over anyone."

The militiaman shrugs, "I ain't handing over anyone. Just telling you. Your save the boy or die fighting sentiment isn't widely popular....with those of us you seem to forget."

Speaking to a uniformed Wehnimer's militiaman, Hapenlok says, "You have your choice to make, as I did. as the men of my squad did."

The militiaman says, "I obey my Captain. Unlike some. But, just warning you. You may have more enemies than you know."

Hapenlok removes a brass-riveted militia tabard from in his dark leather cape.

Hapenlok chants a short phrase, embers leaping from his fingertips, as he clenches his hand into a smoke-shrouded fist.

Hapenlok drops a brass-riveted militia tabard.

The tabard ignites and burns!

For Stormy on Volnes

From the crowd, someone in a dark hood, leans in and whispers next to Stormyrain. Despite the loud opinions, some of what he says can be heard, "...Andrew...journal...Volnes...."

The militiaman spins around, but the hooded figure is gone.

Dennet's Final Suggestions

Grand Magister Dennet just limped in.

Dennet says, "Good evening."

Speaking to Dennet, Tsalinx asks, "Good evening Grand Magister - we were discussing the best way to protect and or hide the pylons for the assault - do you have any suggestions?"

Dennet says, "I already provided an original suggestion."

Dennet says, "Keeping them at the Outpost, which is significantly warded."

Speaking to Dennet, Tsalinx asks, "Considering the pylons are now here to protect the city - what is the next best option to protect them as long as possible - hopefully to be used at an important moment, rather than fired off and wasted at the beginning?"

Dennet whispers something to Raelee.

Raelee nods slowly at Dennet.

Speaking to Dennet, Hapenlok says, "Well, I had come up with a plan to erect an elemental barrier around the pylons, don't tell me I completely wasted my time with that. That would be an extreme blow to my ego."

Dennet says, "Wards could be established to help protect an area."

Dennet says, "But anything of significant power could not be done in time."

Dennet says, "Your height alone should be a blow to your ego."

Dennet nods at Hapenlok.

Speaking to Dennet, Hapenlok says, "You know..."

Hapenlok sighs at Dennet.

Dennet says, "Wards are a good idea."

Dennet says, "Weeks ago."

Speaking to Dennet, Hapenlok asks, "I get it. We pick on the Paradis. But is it really necessary to do it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME?"

Dennet says, "My offer remains, to keep the pylons in the Outpost."

Speaking to Dennet, Shinann says, "Then you should have helped us ward the town.... weeks ago."

Speaking to Dennet, Thrassus asks, "They will be able to cover the town from there, am I correct?"

Dennet says, "It seems some of your townspeople have taken me up on my offer to hide below the Outpost."

Speaking to Dennet, Tsalinx says, "What do you think of the plan to hide them, or use decoys, to perhaps fool the enemy so that they may not be wasted? Surely they will be destroyed once they are used - as powerful as they are, they will draw a lot of attention - but if we can keep them safe for just long enough to use them as a surprise...it could make all the difference."

Dennet says, "I will see to it they are protected."

Dennet says, "Truth be told, my wife's health was my priority."

Dennet nods at Shinann.

Dennet nods at Thrassus.

Dennet says, "There will be little to no success in hiding or concealing the pylons."

Speaking to Dennet, Hapenlok says, "Yet, five of us acting in concert managed to stabilize a rogue portal dumping Taladorian beasts on us."

Speaking to Dennet, Hapenlok says, "So your pylons could blast the damn thing."

Dennet says, "Your pylons will likely be needed for a similar tactic."

Dennet says, "She will likely open portals in your town."

Dennet says, "The pylons will be useful for weakening or closing them."

Dennet says, "If you expect the mages to rush at you in the streets."

Dennet says, "You are mistaken."

Speaking reasonably to Dennet, Cruxophim inquires, "What is your estimation on her attempting to destroy the pylons? Fairly high likelihood?"

Dennet says, "When the battle begins, the pylons may not become her first priority."

Dennet says, "In time, perhaps."

Dennet says, "Keep in mind, the Outpost has defenses, and pylons."

Dennet says, "We are a primary target too."

Dennet wobbles, looking a bit faint.

Speaking slowly to Dennet, Raelee suggests, "Perhaps you should return to the Outpost?"

Dennet nods.

Dennet says, "Soon, yes."

Dennet whispers something to Raelee.

Dennet nods at Raelee.

Raelee nods at Dennet.

Dennet whispers something to Raelee.

Dennet whispers something to Raelee.

Raelee whispers something to Dennet.

Dennet removes a thin piece of parchment from his robe. The glow of the moonlight reveals what appears to be some names, but he quickly turns it over in his hand.

Dennet offers Raelee a thin piece of parchment.

Raelee accepts Dennet's piece of parchment.

Dennet whispers something to Raelee.

Dennet says, "Rodnay's powers will be hampered early on."

Speaking quietly to herself, Raelee says, "... of course."

Speaking slowly to Dennet, Cruxophim murmurs, "The fog."

Dennet nods.

Speaking to Dennet, Shinann asks, "How do you know that?"

Dennet says, "Because of the fog, and the blocking of your thoughts in their previous attack."

Shinann nods at Dennet.

Dennet says, "Octaven is too smart to arrive and have the boy melt her mind."

Dennet says, "In truth, I wouldn't be surprised if she did not come at all."

Dennet says, "Goodnight...."

Dennet says, "Rest while you can."

Dennet says, "Soon we will have little time to."

Grand Magister Dennet just limped west.
