Summary

  • A crowd gathers in Moot Hall to debate the possibility of Ta'Vaalor taking over the Elven Village near the Red Forest.
  • Ayred, the Ivory Mage, brings Councilwoman Alendrial DeArchon to the debate through a portal and she acknowledges that her husband Stephos DeArchon has "more for him" tonight, then informs the crowd that Thadston Andrews will likely be late or not present since he's indicated his mind is made up. However, as she speaks Thadston arrives.
  • People begin to join the list of speakers and the debate proceeds:
    • Puptilian says to give the village its own voice in the matter and to stand behind whatever they decide.
    • Chamorr agrees with Pup and says not to give the village over and that if Ta'Vaalor wants an outpost, they can build it on the other side of the ferry (along the Locksmehr Trail).
    • Leafiara says it doesn't seem their decision to make and suggests not trusting the Vaalorian leadership since the Vaalorians look down on other races.
    • Mayor Lylia says the Vaalorians are known for war but didn't pose an open threat, and that there's an opportunity for the Vaalorians to act as a check against other Imperial powers (likely implying the Turamzzyrian Empire, but left unnamed).
    • Yhtrin says the Vaalorians were giving a warning and that they'll take the village either way, so the Landing can either give it over and make an ally or refuse and make an enemy.
    • Ysharra poses the question of whether the Vaalorians have recognized their weaknesses after a recent long winter (referring to a magically-induced winter which, among other things, froze the Lake of Fear) and could bring trade or other benefits.
    • Zosopage asks what benefits Ta'Vaalor has said they'd bring to the table and says the discussion can't move forward until that's known.
    • In response to Zosopage, Alendrial asks Lynaera (a Vaalorian) for her thoughts. Lynaera says she doesn't speak for the Crown, but that expanding gives the Vaalorians more control over their future and allows easier trade, troop movements, and the other City States to trade in the West. She raises the possibility that Ta'Vaalor is expanding to counter the growing power of New Ta'Faendryl.
    • Pup says that he had tried to expand the Landing's influence and mayor and still believes it's a good idea, but that handing over a village is too much of a price for that goal.
    • Nazarr says he doesn't trust Ta'Vaalor to deal in good faith and that they want more power at the Landing's expense while finding a way to scapegoat the Faendryl as an excuse for their expansion.
    • Cryheart says the elven village existed before the Landing if he remembers history and that it doesn't seem there's a legal option to decide what to do with the village. He sees no problem with letting them decide.
    • Maags says it wouldn't be right to let Ta'Vaalor overtake the village if they don't wish it and says to stand up for what's right, not what's easy.
    • Meureii says that the political questions raised by Ta'Vaalor's proposal are such that Solhaven should be made aware, the elves (unclear whether he means the Ta'Vaalor elves or the elven village) should be made aware of the upcoming krolvin threat in two months, and that there won't be problems as long as no ill will is borne toward the Landing.
    • Telare says Vaalorians including the King are upright and honorable, that the Nations have a history of aiding the West, and that he doesn't see that Vaalor has anything to gain by causing friction. He says to let the village decide its fate.
    • Thadston says Ta'Vaalor will take what it wants and asks the crowd if they'll fight for the Red Forest elves if they refuse. Leafiara, Puptilian, Goldstr, Stormyrain, Meureii, Evia, Shinann, Cryheart, Maags, Saranja, Zosopage, Chamorr say yes (or nod). Xorus, Lylia, and Thrassus say no (or shake their heads). Madmountan and Darcena appear to at least not mind the possibility, if not be excited aboout it. Thadston cautions against drawing the ire of large empires.
    • Dergoatean proposes offering them Potter's Field instead since it's near to the elven village and has similar strategic value.
  • Thadston says to think of what the elves seek in a hundred years, not tomorrow, and that he's heard enough for the night. He leaves and Alendrial says the Council will meet behind closed doors over the week--her, Thadston, Beldrin, and she's even told that Pylasar is expected.

Gathering

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

Thunder rumbles in the distance.

A town crier shouts in the distance, "The debate on the Elven Village shall begin shortly! All are welcome to attend! Go into Moot Hall and then through the double door!"

[Moot Hall, Assembly Room]

In this large assembly room meetings are convened to deal with the affairs of the town, and the locals hold their religious and social events. There is ample room for benches, long tables and other furnishings befitting special occasions. Sconces for torches, chandeliers holding many candles, and broad windows impart a warm, friendly glow of good fellowship to this space. You also see some wooden benches, a double door and a louvered door.

A white speck of light forms in the back of the room.

The white mote of light begins to expand, stretching and spreading to become a glowing white portal. Stepping out of it, comes Ayred, his pink eyes bright, his skin like alabaster. His ivory robe flows about his frame.

>look ayr

You see Ayred.

He appears to be a Half-Elf. He is average height. He appears to be very young. He has pale pink eyes and milky white skin. He has long, bone white hair tied back in a ponytail. He has a straight nose and scars along his neck and hands. He has scars along his bare feet and his mouth is disfigured, his lips seemingly melded together and tiny bits of wires woven into his cheeks.

He is in good shape.

He is wearing an old silver-hued pouch, and a long flowing ivory robe.

Ayred turns back to the portal, and nods.

Stepping out of the portal, Alendrial comes into view, stepping to the side of Ayred.

Alendrial smiles.

Alendrial says, "Good evening everyone."

Alendrial nods at Ayred.

Alendrial says, "Thank you Ayred. I know my husband has more for you tonight than just this, so thank you."

Ayred nods at Alendrial.

Ayred bows to Alendrial then steps into the white portal, and it closes up behind him as he disappears within.

Alendrial says, "Lord Thadston will not make it tonight, or, will be late."

Alendrial says, "He has indicated as much that his mind is already made up."

Alendrial chuckles.

Thadston marches into the room.

Alendrial says, "Oh..."

Alendrial smiles.

Alendrial says, "Lord Thadston, I had just informed then you were not coming."

Thadston says, "Well, you were wrong."

Thadston says, "Like some wedding vows."

Thadston smirks.

Speaking to Thadston, Ysharra says, "I see you're still not a golem. Good evening, sirrah."

Chamorr and Thadston shake hands.

Thadston says, "I'll be in the back."

Thadston begins chuckling at Ysharra!

Thadston bows to Chamorr.

Thadston nods at Stormyrain.

Thadston nods at Shinann.

Thadston says, "Captains."

Stormyrain murmurs, "Interim Marshal."

Thadston says, "Mayor."

Thadston nods at Puptilian.

Thadston says, "Mayor."

Shinann says, "Marshal."

Thadston nods at Lylia.

Puptilian says, "Marshal."

Shinann mutters something about temporary.

Thadston says, "Cook."

Thadston nods at Cook.

Thadston smirks.

Alendrial says, "Well then. Tonight, is about hearing your voice."

Alendrial says, "For good, bad, indifferent, whichever you wish to speak."

Alendrial says, "Please, join the speaker list."

Alendrial says, "If you wish a turn."

Puptilian adds his name to the speaker list.

Chamorr adds his name to the speaker list.

Leafiara adds her name to the speaker list.

Thadston twists his head slightly, cracking his neck. He looks relieved.

Thadston leans against a double door.

Lylia adds her name to the speaker list.

Alendrial asks, "Only 4?"

Alendrial glances at a speaker list.

Yhtrin adds his name to the speaker list.

Lylia says, "There will be more, once people sense the tone and tenor of the debate -- and then choose contrary positions."

Speaking amusedly to Alendrial, Lylia says, "Welcome to Wehnimer's Landing."

Alendrial grins.

Alendrial says, "As I stated, before the council can weigh in fully on this...."

Alendrial says, "Tonight, we'd like to hear your thoughts, or concerns, or comments on Ta'Vaalor taking control of the Elven Village near the Red Forest."

Alendrial says, "We'll begin going through the speaker list."

Alendrial says, "I ask you be respectful."

Speaker #1: Puptilian - The Village's Voice

Alendrial says, "Puptilian..."

Alendrial grins at Puptilian.

Puptilian nods.

Ysharra adds her name to the speaker list.

Alendrial says, "Welcome...back."

Alendrial says, "You're up."

Meureii makes a writing motion at the speaker list.

Puptilian says, "Council, Mayor, fellow citizens and friends. We all are part of the Landing, and the Landing stands on its own. No one speaks for us but us."

Puptilian says, "In that same thought."

Puptilian says, "I say we give the village their own voice."

Puptilian says, "If their leaders want to join TV, so be it. If they want to stand on their own so be it. If they want to be a part of us so be it."

Puptilian says, "I will respect and defend their choice in this."

Puptilian says, "As a good neighbor should."

Puptilian says, "So I say we speak to their leaders and see what their opinion is on the subject."

Alendrial nods.

Alendrial says, "Thank you Puptilian."

Dergoatean says, "What a radical concept."

Puptilian asks, "Do we have someone from the village to speak on their behalf?"

Puptilian peers quizzically at Alendrial.

Alendrial says, "Tonight? No."

Puptilian nods.

Puptilian says, "Thank you."

Alendrial says, "But it can be arranged in the future."

Speaker #2: Chamorr - Whose Homes Are Next

Alendrial says, "Chamorr, you're up."

Ysharra says, "This discussion doesn't have to be about permission or deterrence."

Chamorr heartily says, "Well, Pup said it all."

Ysharra says, "But more about what we might expect, should things go one way or another."

Maags says, "What does Vaalor want to do with it."

Ysharra nods at Maags.

Ysharra says, "Just so."

Chamorr heartily says, "Who are we to negotiate anyone's home."

Speaking to Maags, Puptilian says, "Think Imperial Outpost but for TV."

Maags says, "I see."

Chamorr heartily says, "If you decide to give Vaalor the hidden village, whose homes are next."

Zosopage adds his name to the speaker list.

Maags says, "Well it is not theirs. Pup is right."

Thadston says, "The kobold village."

Thadston says, "The Obsidian Tower."

Leafiara adamantly says, "They can't have that either."

Thadston smirks.

Maags exclaims, "Nobodies can has our kobolds!"

Arku softly asks, "Would you pass up a chance to have your authority over surrounding lands recognized by an eastern power?"

Speaking to Thadston, Darcena says, "No."

Chamorr heartily says, "If Vaalor wants an outpost, let em build it other side of the ferry."

Stormyrain states, "There's a list for those who wish to speak."

Chamorr heartily says, "Thanks."

Alendrial says, "Thank you Chamorr."

Evia says, "Don't need anyone else's authority."

Speaker #3: Leafiara - Distrust

Alendrial says, "Leafiara. You are up."

Leafiara nods at Alendrial.

Speaking to Stormyrain, Jeril says, "You mean you want order? That's madness."

Leafiara acknowledges, "Well, Pup had already brought up my first thought that it doesn't seem like this is even our question to decide, so I'll move on to my second..."

Maags asks, "Who are we debating with are they here?"

Speaking heartily to Stormyrain, Chamorr asks, "Order?"

Speaking heartily to Stormyrain, Chamorr says, "Scotch on da rocks please."

Speaking to Chamorr, Stormyrain says, "Only brandy here my friend."

Leafiara frankly says, "I don't trust the Vaalorian leadership. I don't trust that it's going to be mutually beneficial to them and the village, nor to them and us--I trust that they intend it for their own benefit and no one else's."

Speaking to Leafiara, Melikor says, "Likely."

Thadston nods to Leafiara.

Alendrial smiles.

Leafiara ruefully says, "And anyone who's walked their streets without being a Vaalorian themselves... knows well their intolerance and the way they look down on all others."

Leafiara shakes her head.

Maags says, "Otherwise they would jus have an envoy living here."

Leafiara insists, "Don't trust them. That's all I ask, in whatever decision we make."

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Leafiara nods once.

Speaker #4: Mayor Lylia - Powers in Check

Alendrial says, "Mayor Lylia."

Lylia surveys the area.

Ysharra says, "Trust them to be exactly what they are, perhaps."

Lylia says, "So far, too many of you are laboring under the mistaken impression that this is a simple request, that we have only to ask the few dozen Elves there what they think of Vaalorian sovereignty, and that is that."

Lylia incredulously asks, "Have you ever met anyone from Ta'Vaalor?"

Lylia paces back and forth.

Lylia says, "Do you know what they are known for? It is not singing, or wines, or the study of the language of fans or flowers."

Speaking heartily to Lylia, Chamorr says, "Indeed I have."

Lylia flatly says, "It is war."

Maags says, "They march a lot."

Lylia says, "And yet, Lord Chamberlain Retassal did not meet me with discourtesy or threats. This is a clear signal."

Speaking to Lylia, Darcena asks, "Are you scared?"

Lylia raises her voice in merry laughter.

Lylia says, "No. Not at all. But I see an opportunity here."

Lylia simply says, "To use the plainest Common translation of that message: 'We can do this the easy way or the hard way.'."

Maags says, "Did the Chamberlain ask or tell yous."

Speaking to Darcena, Jeril says, "Hard to scare a witch unless you have a bucket of water."

Maags says, "Told."

Speaking heartily to Lylia, Chamorr says, "Bein a dark elf, you wouldn't be allowed in."

Lylia says, "If we go the 'easy way,' we have much to gain. We have a check on other Imperial overreach from...other quarters."

Speaking coldly to Chamorr, Lylia says, "I have the floor."

Thadston clenches his jaw.

Lylia says, "We also have the recognition from a sovereign nation that our boundaries exceed those of our town's walls. This is risky -- but potentially useful."

Puptilian says, "Not disagreeing on that last part."

Puptilian shrugs.

Lylia says, "We should not discount the possibility out of hand. Ultimately, what we decide now is not only for us, but for those of you whose generations of children and children's children will live here."

Lylia asks, "Do you want to hand them a war-torn land, or one that is at the nexus of many powers held in check with one another?"

Lylia surveys the area.

Lylia says, "I ask that you think about this not as provincial villagers, but as a future power ourselves."

Lylia inclines her head.

Nazarr says, "Actually, I don't want to hand them anything."

Lylia says, "I yield the floor."

Alendrial grins.

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Speaker #5: Yhtrin - Empires and Conquest

Alendrial says, "Yhtrin, you're up."

Yhtrin says, "I see this as a warning. A friendly warning, but none the less. They intend to take this village and we can either approve, and potentially make an ally and have a balancing check on the empire...or we can condemn it and have another enemy on our border when they take the village regardless."

Puptilian adds his name to the speaker list.

Yhtrin says, "May not enjoy my words, but when it comes to Empires, they only act one way with one goal. Conquest."

Alendrial nods at Yhtrin.

Speaking quietly to himself, Meureii mumbles, "Two decades of conquest..."

Yhtrin says, "Better to put both Empires against each other then have them as enemies."

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Roelaren says, "Someone representing the village should have been here tonight."

Thadston twists his head slightly, cracking his neck. He looks relieved.

Speaker #6: Ysharra - Weaknesses and Trade

Alendrial says, "Ysharra."

Lylia says, "They were invited. All in the region were."

Ysharra says, "First, I was never under the impression that we're here tonight to give them away or forbid them to go. The Village, that is."

Ysharra asks, "We're here to discuss what this could mean for us. Yes?"

Ysharra says, "What if the Vaalor are looking to shore up their own weaknesses, which were exposed by the long winter and the risk of famine? Perhaps they now recognize the risk of being so insular throughout the past few centuries."

Alendrial says, "A little of both I suppose."

Nazarr adds his name to the speaker list.

Ysharra says, "The idea of...breaking their power into something decentralized has some appeal."

Ysharra says, "And besides, they may bring some trade and other benefits with them."

Ysharra asks, "Would they bring airships? Would those have made a difference in Talador?"

Evia says, "Or perhaps a toll for entering their newest chunk of space."

Cryheart adds his name to the speaker list.

Ysharra says, "It's been over a year now, and most of the survivors still have no permanent home."

Ysharra shrugs.

Ysharra says, "Some quicker ways to supply one another could have come in handy."

Ysharra says, "That's all."

Madmountan says, "I'd be all about the Vaalorians showing the ole Polemeister the proper way to conduct a ferry."

Ysharra grins at Madmountan.

Alendrial nods at Ysharra.

Speaker #7 and #8: Zosopage and Lynaera - What Ta'Vaalor Brings to the Table

Alendrial says, "Zosopage."

Zosopage nods.

Speaking to a speaker list, Meureii says, "I did write my name.."

Zosopage asks, "What benefits to the Elven Village and us in The Landing do they intend to bring with them, or have they even stated any as such? Why would this be a good idea to allow this to happen?"

Alendrial looks over at Meureii and shakes her head.

Maags adds her name to the speaker list.

Meureii adds his name to the speaker list.

Zosopage asks, "Can someone answer for them at this time?"

Alendrial asks, "To answer for Ta'Vaalor?"

Alendrial says, "None here can."

Zosopage says, "In my opinion we can't really move forward with this until we can speak with them to see what they bring to the table."

Alendrial peers quizzically at Lynaera.

Zosopage says, "It's all conjecture in the meantime."

Alendrial asks, "Lady Lynaera?"

Speaking to Alendrial, Lynaera asks, "Yes?"

Zosopage bows to Alendrial.

Alendrial asks, "You had something to say, for the Nations?"

Alendrial peers quizzically at Lynaera.

Lynaera says, "I live in Ta'Vaalor, and may be able to provide a few answers."

Alendrial nods.

Lynaera says, "However, I cannot provide them on behalf of The Crown."

Alendrial says, "Please, we would hear your thoughts."

Alendrial says, "Of course."

Thadston yawns.

Lynaera says, "King Qalinor is rather progressive, however, the long winter has been a disaster for the Fortress."

Telare adds his name to the speaker list.

Lynaera says, "Expanding through the area gives them more control over their future, and allows for easier trade and troop movements to fight distant and near threats."

Lynaera says, "Their....proximity, would also allow the other City States to trade here, as well."

Lynaera says, "They may also be expanding to counter the growing power of New Ta'Faendryl."

Alendrial nods.

Lynaera says, "That is, of course, just a thought."

Lynaera nods politely.

Lynaera apologizes, "Please forgive my interruption."

Leafiara earnestly says, "She asked you for your thoughts--it wasn't an interruption."

Puptilian says, "Thank you for a different perspective on the subject."

Alendrial agrees with Leafiara.

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Speaker #9: Puptilian - A Price Too High

Alendrial says, "Puptilian again."

Puptilian grins.

Puptilian says, "I will keep it a bit shorter."

Thadston smirks.

Puptilian snickers.

Puptilian says, "When I was mayor I also looked for ways to expand the influence of the Landing."

Puptilian says, "I still think it's a good idea and one to explore."

Puptilian says, "To go beyond the walls of this town."

Puptilian says, "That said, I will not just hand over another group of people to do so. The price of handing over a villiage that may or may not want to join Vaalor in my eyes is too much."

Saranja quietly says, "Excuse me.... the Mayor spoke of a choice between generations of war and a balance of power. I have a question, meaning no disrespect... how are we to be sure power remains 'balanced?' Will we not have to become a fortress city to guard against treachery?... if we are thinking of future generations, we must ask what freedom we cost them now..."

Puptilian says, "The right way to go about this is to speak with that villiage and if that will not work, I think offering an embassy here for TV may be a directin we could go."

Speaking to Saranja, Yhtrin says, "Rude."

Speaking to Yhtrin, Puptilian says, "That is not, its a good question."

Speaking to Saranja, Lylia says, "There are different sorts of power."

Cryheart points at a speaker list.

Speaking to Cryheart, Stormyrain says, "It's closed, she could not join it if she wished."

Cryheart asks, "Oh?"

>read list

The speaker list contains the following names:

(1) Nazarr

(2) Cryheart

(3) Maags

(4) Meureii

(5) Telare

The speaker list is closed.

Leaving the game for more than a few minutes is NOT allowed.

Leaving the room is allowed. You MUST be back by your turn.

You may only be on ONE list at a time. Joining another will remove you from the first.

Cryheart winces.

Speaking quietly to Yhtrin, Saranja says, "You are free to dislike me."

Speaking to Puptilian, Zosopage says, "Hence why I asked what do they have to bring to the table, what benefits would they provide."

Puptilian says, "You heard my point on this. I think it's a payment too high no matter how much or how little we could gain."

Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "You called it when we first started."

Lylia says, "And again, you are under the misapprehension that asking the ant which hill it wishes to reside within will stop the building of great towers."

Alendrial nods.

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Speaker #10: Nazarr - Vaalorians and the Faendryl

Alendrial says, "Nazarr."

Alendrial grins.

Nazarr says, "Frankly, it occurs to me that once they have the Elven Village, they will be poised to divide the land and control the EN Trail. A potential position of power, militarily and economically. However, I do not see the value in their recognition. What I see is that they will use the recognition of the Landing and our Faendryl Mayor as an excuse. And somehow, I feel certain that their incursions will be blamed on the Faendryl. They do not, after all, need to march across the lands to fight threats. There are plenty in the Nations already. And their merchants do not require military escorts. They want more power--which is understandable--but they want it at the Landing's expense while scapegoating the Faendryl. 'Oh, we only came here because the Faendryl are growing too powerful! It's their fault! It certainly isn't ours.' I don't trust them, and I see no reason to pretend their recognition is of any value. I do not trust them to deal in good faith."

Alendrial says, "Thank you Nazaar. Noted."

Evia says, "Well thought out."

Speaker #11: Cryheart - Legality and Circumstances

Alendrial says, "Cryheart."

Speaking quietly to Nazarr, Ysharra says, "You sing such a pretty song, my friend. It's like you knew the words already."

Zosopage ponders.

Cryheart nods.

Cryheart coughs.

Speaking to Nazarr, Lylia says, "Thank you for your thoughts, Nazarr."

Speaking to Evia, Dergoatean says, "I wonder which choice yields the greater production of hot sausage rolls."

Cryheart says, "Firstly, I think we need to understand the legality of circumstances."

Cryheart says, "Before we can discuss this."

Maags quietly says, "Too late for that."

Cryheart asks, "First, the elven village existed before the Landing?"

Cryheart asks, "Secondly, does the Landing hae title over the Elven village?"

Cryheart says, "Those two questions should be answered first."

Chamorr heartily says, "And then say no to this whole idea."

Alendrial says, "Were I to guess, I would gather Ta'Vaalor cares little of our claim to the land, and more on whether we agree or resist."

Cryheart says, "And I do think the elven village was here before the Landing was built if I recall history."

Speaking to Cryheart, Goldstr says, "I woulds thinks yes and no."

Puptilian says, "We resisted the Empire with little help. I would think we could resist the Nations with the help of the Empire. If it came down to that which I hope doesn't."

Speaking to Alendrial, Stormyrain says, "I don't think that question is about Vaalor's feelings on the matter, but on how we conduct ourselves as the Landing."

Lylia notes, "The Vaalorians offer their own answer to the second question. It is part of what their discussion with me entailed -- the tacit agreement that they recognize our sovereignty over a wider reach."

Cryheart says, "Well..regardless of whether Ta'Vaalor cares or not...I cannae see how we could actually limit the elven village of what they could or not do."

Lylia dryly remarks, "We resisted the Turamzzyrian Empire so much, we have an outpost within sight of my window upstairs."

Thadston grins at Lylia.

Lylia asks, "Why do we speak of resistance when we can speak of alliance?"

Cryheart says, "No disrespects, Lady Lynaera."

Alendrial says, "Maags you are next."

Lylia says, "But I am not on the list. I shall hold those thoughts."

Maags stands up.

Lylia touches one finger to her lips.

Cryheart says, "Wait."

Cryheart glances at Alendrial.

Alendrial peers quizzically at Cryheart.

Cryheart raises an eyebrow.

Cryheart says, "Well."

Cryheart says, "We still need to consider our legal options, but for the most part, I hae no problems with the elven village making up their own minds."

Cryheart smiles.

Cryheart bows to Alendrial.

Alendrial nods.

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Speaker #12: Maags - The Right or the Easy

Alendrial nods at Maags.

Maags nods.

Evia asks, "And if they choose no...who defends their choice?"

Speaking quietly to Cryheart, Saranja says, "As to how we restrict those in the elven village... right or wrong, that is a simple matter of overwhelming force."

Speaking heartily to Evia, Chamorr says, "I will."

Maags says, "Problies I am repeating others somewhat but, I thinks this would be a different conversation if Vaalor asked to has an outpost or an embassy here."

Thadston adds his name to the speaker list.

Speaking quietly to Evia, Stormyrain says, "I would stand with the Elves."

Thrassus asks, "Which elves?"

Speaking to Stormyrain, Leafiara clarifies, "The ones in the village, you mean?"

Stormyrain says, "Those of the village."

Maags says, "But I do not believes that we should even consider -letting- them takes over the elven village."

Puptilian says, "The village."

Maags says, "And as for history...."

Speaking dryly to Stormyrain, Arku says, "Which elves, they're all elves."

Speaking flatly to Arku, Stormyrain says, "As am I."

Maags says, "It will not look upon us kindlies if we allow Vaalor or anybodies to overtake a village if they do not wish it."

Maags says, "We needs to stand up for what is right, not what is easies."

Maags says, "Or avoids war at great cost to our....honor."

Maags says, "That is all."

Alendrial nods at Maags.

==Speaker #13: Meureii -

Alendrial says, "Meureii."

Maags exclaims, "Usuallies I do not care for politics!"

Meureii says, "There are multiple moving parts to this equation."

Meureii says, "I will highlight them succinctly and move along."

Speaking heartily to Maags, Chamorr says, "All fired up there Maags."

Meureii says, "First, we are missing the largest opportunity presented."

Meureii glances at Lylia.

Meureii says, "These elves have gone through a hardship that many have nae ever witnessed."

Meureii reminds, "We will face the same in two months time from the Krolvin."

Meureii sternly says, "Do nae forget that."

Lylia murmurs, "I have not."

Meureii says, "We are faced with an option."

Meureii says, "Given the proximity to our town, certain Imperial establishments, and the fact that they are crossing over the spine attempting to "claim" something, raises all sorts of political questions."

Speaking to Evia, Madmountan asks, "That bread have a good mouth feel?"

Meureii says, "Solhaven should be made aware, the Elves should be made aware of the Krolvin as well, and together THEY should be given the option to help, or face an ultimate demise of their people should they show us ill will."

Speaking to Madmountan, Evia says, "The bread says...nevermind."

Meureii says, "Do nae harm our town, our citizens, or our land and there won't be problems."

Meureii simply says, "That is all."

Alendrial nods at Meureii.

Darcena murmurs, "That's my pack."

Alendrial says, "Thank you."

Chamorr heartily says, "That brings up a point."

Speaker #14: Telare - Vaalorian Honor

Alendrial says, "Telare."

Telare nods at Alendrial.

Lylia muses, "Imagine Kragnack's face upon meeting the powers of two great empires as well as our own..."

Telare says, "I will keep this fairly short."

Chamorr heartily says, "What's the Empire gonna think about this incursion."

Speaking to Lylia, Meureii says, "I imagine him..."

Meureii removes a wild-eyed blue krolvin head from in his seafarer's longcloak.

Shinann says, "Would still be ugly."

Telare says, "When I first came north from my homeland, Illistim and Vaalor were places that I frequented and came to appreciate."

Shinann says, "Sorry."

Dergoatean adds his name to the speaker list.

Telare says, "I believe in considering this proposition, we should be fair about considering the history and tendencies of the House of Vaalor. Yes, they are a warrior people. But they are a people with honor. They are not known for warmongering, or wresting control of territory from other nations and subjugating their people. The Nations have a history of aiding the West, and I believe this should not go ignored. Good relations may prove a valuable asset to the Landing, as historically we have faced incursions from many other sources."

Telare says, "In my personal dealings with Vaalorians, I have found them to be most upright and honorable. This includes the King himself.. I do not see that Vaalor has much to gain by causing any friction with the West. On the contrary."

Evia says, "Always a first for anything."

Telare says, "The village should be afforded some autonomy to decide their own destiny for themselves."

Telare says, "That is all."

Speaker #15: Thadston - The Possibility of War

Alendrial nods.

Alendrial pokes Thadston in the ribs.

Alendrial asks, "Thadston?"

Speaking sincerely to Telare, Lylia says, "Thank you."

Thadston says, "A simple question."

Speaking to Lylia, Telare says, "Of course, Mayor."

Thadston says, "The elves will take what they want."

Thadston asks, "If the Red Forest Elves of the village decline, will you fight for them?"

Leafiara nods firmly.

(Darcena growls under her breath.)

Puptilian nods at Thadston.

Goldstr casts his vote with an emphatic "Aye!"

Stormyrain adopts an agreeable expression.

Meureii says, "If they can nae defend themselves.."

Meureii casts his vote with an emphatic "Aye!"

Puptilian says, "I will."

Madmountan appears to be trying hard not to grin.

Evia casts her vote with an emphatic "Aye!"

Shinann nods.

Cryheart says, "If they ask us, aye."

Maags nods.

Saranja nods at Thadston.

Zosopage adopts an agreeable expression.

Puptilian agrees with Cryheart.

Xorus shakes his head.

Chamorr heartily says, "Aye."

Leafiara nonchalantly says, "Not even in question."

Lylia simply says, "No. I shall not waste our people in defense of those whose names most of you do not even know."

Lylia surveys the area.

Lylia asks, "Or am I wrong about that?"

Lylia raises an eyebrow.

Speaking heartily to Thadston, Chamorr asks, "Will the militia?"

Maags nods at Shinann.

Zosopage says, "So basically if the Elven Villiage declines and Vaalor takes it anyway, then it's war."

Lylia says, "You care only because someone else does."

Madmountan asks, "Do I get to slaughter Vaalorians for a very vague reason because of a handful of local elves, if so?"

Speaking to Lylia, Puptilian says, "There are several that go to the Shrine with me. They are not all strangers."

Speaking to Madmountan, Darcena says, "Precisely."

Evia frowns.

Lynaera frowns at Madmountan.

Speaking quietly to herself, Saranja says, "Gods know I've died for sillier things..."

Madmountan grins.

Thrassus says, "It would be a futile effort."

Speaking amusedly to Madmountan, Leafiara says, "Always so blunt."

Madmountan grins.

Thadston says, "I would caution against drawing the ire of large empires to the south and east."

Speaking to Puptilian, Lylia says, "Perhaps not to you. I guarantee they are strangers to most."

Speaking to Thadston, Lylia says, "Indeed."

Darcena leans against Madmountan and nuzzles his shoulder.

Madmountan grins.

Lylia says, "Nobility and futility rhyme, but they are not synonyms."

Evia says, "Ire is one of our best drawings."

Maags says, "The right thing is usuallies not the easiest thing."

Darcena murmurs, "Barely rhyme."

Stormyrain says, "Some of the people in this town are strangers to me, but I still stand against them and forces that wish to disrupt their way of life. I will do the same for the Red Forest Elves if need be."

Speaking to Evia, Ysharra says, "Blue ribbon ire."

Thadston nods at Alendrial.

Puptilian says, "I would not rest well if I sat back and let a neighbor be forced to do something aginst their will."

Speaker #16: Dergoatean - An Alternate Proposal

Alendrial says, "Dergoatean."

Lylia asks, "Any neighbor?"

Dergoatean nods at Alendrial.

Evia says, "Mull of can't Ire."

Dergoatean says, "There is a field just west of this elven village."

Dergoatean says, "Almost identically situated, in terms of strategic value, with respect to the trail between here and the east."

Ysharra asks, "Including the Krolvin? The Reivers?"

Dergoatean says, "We could suggest that they clear a bit of land on the margins of that plot and build as identical a village as they desire."

Dergoatean says, "And while they're at it, they can clear up a bit of an infestation of the uncooperatively dead."

Dergoatean says, "Seems like a win-win-win-win to me."

Dergoatean says, "Alliances forged."

Dergoatean says, "Self-determination honored."

Goldstr says, "Reivers be good folks."

Cryheart says, "An option..and a viable one."

Speaking to Evia, Ysharra says, "That was terrible. I love it."

Dergoatean exclaims, "Souls unshackled!"

Speaking heartily to Ysharra, Chamorr says, "The reivers has the best tavern, ol Jocko."

Speaking to Ysharra, Puptilian says, "The reivers helped us in the past. I would do the same. Krolvin have been our enemies and for good reason."

Xorus says, "The Vaalor will be moving their troops through this village and Icemule whenever they wish. It will not be a matter of pushing them back only once."

Speaking to Puptilian, Lylia says, "Then when the Vaalorians are in Icemule Trace in perpetuity, as the mayor there has granted them. I trust you will make common cause with them there."

Lylia nods at Xorus.

Lylia says, "Just so. They will be to our north. That is already granted."

Pietra says, "More's the pity."

Speaking to Lylia, Puptilian says, "If Mule allowed it I won't. If it's forced on them and they want help I would."

Concluding the Night

Thadston says, "Think less of what the elves seek tomorrow, and what of what they seek one hundred years from now."

Darcena forlornly says, "I suppose I should put my earmuffs and slippers away for awhile then. I'd hate to mingle."

Cryheart says, "Good point."

Pietra says, "Our mayor rolled over and showed her belly to the king, and now they can come and go as they please. Idiot." [referring to Mayor Tawariell of Icemule]

Thadston says, "I've heard enough for tonight."

Stormyrain says, "Have you tried countering with an offer of an embassy here in town, or just outside the gates Madame Mayor? Mayhaps that would solve all of the issues I am currently hearing."

Ysharra says, "Chess, not checkers."

Speaking to Thadston, Meureii says, "Sir, with all due respect, one hundred years means nothing two months from now."

Thadston says, "Good eve all."

Lord Thadston just went through a double door.

Lylia says, "Good evening to you. Rest well."

Chamorr heartily says, "Seeya."

Speaking to Meureii, Lylia says, "You bring up an excellent point. Two months' time..."

Leafiara reasons, "Whatever opportunity we might or might not have in this, it was them who sprung the idea on us. They probably see greater opportunity--as they've had more time to think it through than us."

Speaking to Lylia, Meureii says, "Worse than any can comprehend."

Speaking to Leafiara, Lylia says, "Absolutely. All the more reason, then, to think quickly. To be agile. It is our greatest strength."

Lylia says, "And our greatest weakness is divisiveness for the sake of division."

Alendrial says, "That concludes our list of speakers for tonight."

Alendrial says, "The Town Council shall meet behind closed doors this week."

Chamorr heartily says, "Just say NO."

Alendrial says, "Beldrin, Thadston, and I."

Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra asks, "Is that a strength? Are we sure?"

Alendrial says, "I am told..."

Zosopage says, "Icemule is a heavily defendable town. If the Vaalorians decide to take that over then there's trouble."

Puptilian nods at Alendrial.

Alendrial says, "Pylasar may be expected soon."

Maags says, "If they had asked for an outpost , I thinks our first impulse would be to say no, but then we would negotiate. But to insist on taking over the village even if they don'ts agree? So not right."

Alendrial asks, "Or, yesterday, or tomorrow?"

Speaking to Zosopage, Lylia says, "It is already done."

Alendrial says, "Who is to say with that man."

Speaking to Alendrial, Puptilian asks, "Since Thadston is interm, he still gets a voice on council?"

Speaking to Maags, Lylia says, "We do not know what they wish with the land."

Alendrial says, "Yes."

Speaking amusedly to Alendrial, Meureii says, "Come and gone."

Ilnn says, "Allow them passage, but make it our profit. Require tax. Stop their magical transport. Funnel them through ways which we control."

Maags says, "Who are we to say yes."

Puptilian says, "Just wondering."

Madmountan says, "We don't really NEED to say yes. Icemule can quarter them, and has pretty much already agreed to."

Speaking to Lylia, Maags says, "But there is so much other land."

Alendrial says, "Thank you all for your time and feedback tonight."

Alendrial says, "Good evening."

Alendrial bows.

Pietra says, "Not all of Icemule wants them."

Speaking to Lylia, Maags says, "This is difficult to debate, not knowing what they, the villagers say of it."

Speaking to Maags, Lylia says, "Other land that they know they cannot claim, whereas they know they have at least the most tenuous claim on an 'Elven' village."

Lady Alendrial just went through a double door.
