Mana Disruption is the most universal Sorcerer Base warding attack spell. It inflicts damage by causing the mana in and around its subject to be violently disturbed. There are two damage cycles inflicted: the first is a hitpoint loss, and the other is an injury with additional blood loss.

The severity of the strike depends heavily on the warding endroll. In addition, targets that are stunned or similarly incapacitated are more susceptible to damage. Likewise, using the CHANNEL command can potentially increase the overall damage. If channeling, more offensive stances as well as having one or both hands empty also have the potential to increase the damage inflicted.

Mana Control Benefits

Mana Disruption has a chance to temporarily disable an enhancement (defensive) spell on a target for 15 seconds. Using the caster's Spirit and Elemental Mana Control (with the higher of the two counting all ranks and the lesser counting half ranks), it uses a seed 1 summation to determine the % chance to disrupt a spell. If successful, it will randomly select a spell from the target based upon the caster's Mana Control skills. If the caster has higher SMC, it will attempt to randomly select a spiritual spell first, or if EMC is higher, an elemental spell. If they are equal, it will randomly select one type. If that type of spell is not found on the target, it will try the other type.

The highest level of spell that can be affected is determined by the caster's relevant (SMC or EMC ranks / 5)--e.g. it requires 95 ranks of Spirit Mana Control to temporarily disrupt Spell Shield (219).

The severity of the injury(ies) and any status effect(s) are found in the disruption critical table. In the following cast the injury is a rank 2 abdominal critical and a 3-round stun:

You trace an intricate sign that contorts in the air while forcefully invoking Mana Disruption...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a frost giant.
  CS: +539 - TD: +145 + CvA: +19 + d100: +43 == +456

In the next example the results are rank 2 wound to the right arm, and the status effect is a 2-round stun. In addition, the Spirit Warding I on the frost giant will be dispelled for 15 seconds:
