Synopsis
Two paths diverged of Enisius' quests, And efforts he made to pursue them both; Though be one Magister, he formed a test To enlist the aid of the Landing's best In unraveling mysteries to pursue his growth. But as he viewed the horizon line, Having just laid out his initial goals, Immediately sprung the warning signs: Threats to and from the strange designs Of this Magister with an unreadable soul. Within Melgorehn's, Rodnay dwelled, Bearing power immense to protect his own; The Landing's defense he'd oft upheld And the Hall's ambitions he wished quelled, Warning off trusting them in their home. Implicit in the words of the boy of blue: Exploring the castle may commence, But do not pursue Melgorehn's too, Do not cross Rodnay nor travel through, And that will make all the difference.
[I had to once I settled on the log title, but okay, okay, real synopsis...]
Magister Enisius meets everyone and reveals the ten-question application for his research team looking into Darkstone Castle and Melgorehn's Reach. Councilor Kayse asks if Enisius will leave Rodnay alone when he studies the Reach, but Enisius only says he intends to learn all he can...
...and so Rodnay intervenes himself, halting the proceedings--literally, as he freezes Enisius and the settlers in time. Astral projections of himself appear in the camp and circle the settlers, questioning what they're planning. Kayse says she doesn't know what they're doing to the Reach and that she tried to warn him to leave, but he won't leave, and he can't read the minds of Enisius nor the settlers. While they're not illusions, their thoughts are "covered in brambles" and Rodnay doesn't trust them, as someone--not them--is protecting their minds. It's not Grishom Stone, though it is something familiar to him (Rodnay).
Rodnay says the Hall cannot come to his home, as he's not ready, and considers ending Enisius. Archious says that's not in his interest and will bring more of them, but Rodnay says he'll build a new mountain with their bones. He says the power protecting their minds isn't here, but it is close.
Rodnay calls those gathered here his friends and offers to send the settlers and Enisius home, then demonstrates his ability to control them to leave, but Alosaka manages to talk him out of it. However, Rodnay reiterates to keep them away from Melgorehn's Reach, then his projections disappear.
Magister Raelee informs Enisius what just happened after he unfreezes and he says he'll want a full accounting later. For now, he has the application posted outside Moot Hall and in the Imperial campsite.

Speaking to Pukk, Vaemyr asks, "Owlie for steward of the guilds maybe?" Speaking to Vaemyr, Pukk says, "I tried that during my term..didn't work."
Puptilian says, "We can set Pukk on fire and pretend that is a bonfire." Speaking seductively to Puptilian, Pukk asks, "So, you think I'm hot?"
[General] Enisius asks, "I am told you might enjoy gathering by the bonfire?" [General] Chandrellia thinks, "Does it have a fully cooked Magister on the spit? and I am not including Raelee in that either, she scares me." [General] Raelee thinks, "That man is connected to my work. Let us not kill him tonight."
Enisius says, "Are you...all ma.." Enisius says, "Nevermind." Speaking to Enisius, Chandrellia says, "Yes, yes we are." Speaking to Enisius, Perigourd says, "We're not all magical, no." Cryheart says, "No..we are nae all magisters." Chandrellia says, "Oh and here I thought he was gonna say are we all mad."
Vaemyr says, "I think he's shellshocked." Enisius slowly empties his lungs. Enisius says, "I am fine." Kayse wryly says, "He probably should check his hands for his notes."
Enisius removes a silver-inked ivory parchment from in his silk robes. Enisius asks, "We are content with these, yes?" Enisius peers quizzically at Raelee. Speaking neutrally to Enisius, Raelee says, "You are." Leafiara amiably remarks, "An excellent vote of confidence indeed." Speaking to Leafiara, Puptilian asks, "But when is Raelee ever ok with any arrangement?" Speaking amusedly to Puptilian, Leafiara says, "That's my point. Not soundly condemning it is the closest she gets." Enisius says, "Applications must be submitted via the local post offices to Magister Enisius by the deadline of midnight on Niiman, the 22nd of Eorgaen, 5122." Enisius says, "Applications will be reviewed and decided upon by Magister Enisius, with potential follow up questions or scheduled interviews." Enisius says, "There are no wrong answers." Enisius says, "There are always right answers." Raelee quietly says, "There are incorrect..." (Raelee trails off.) Speaking curiously to Raelee, Leafiara asks, "No wrong answers? Why *aren't* you soundly condemning this?" Speaking to Leafiara, Raelee says, "... there are incorrect answers."
Xorus asks, "How many volumes should these answers be limited to?" Enisius shrugs at Xorus. Speaking lightly to Xorus, Tikba says, "I fear the Landing Mail only accepts boxes of a certain weight."
Speaking to Enisius, Vaemyr asks, "How might we fit all our answers?" Enisius asks, "With a quill, ink and parchment?" Enisius says, "I cannot answer those questions for you." Enisius says, "Perhaps aptitude is also determined in execution."
The snow around Enisius stops in mid-air. He stands motionless, breathless, frozen in time. Evia asks, "Toss a little salt on him?"
The blue-skinned boys begin to encircle Enisius. A quiet voice says, "We should end him." Speaking to a short young blue-skinned boy, Archious says, "That will bring more of them. It is not in my interest." A quiet voice says, "More may come. We will build a new mountain with their bones." Speaking to a short young blue-skinned boy, Archious says, "When you put it that way..." Xorus says, "I always liked you, kid."
Tikba politely notes, "We have asked the settlers to be careful not to harm you and yours." Speaking to Tikba, Archious says, "And Enisius pointedly refused to acknowledge that request."
One of the blue-skinned boys lifts up one hand. Enisius raises his hand. A quiet voice says, "Do you want me to send them back home?" Bellaja says, "Yes." Pukk exclaims, "Yes!" Leafiara says, "Ah, if only." One blue-skinned boy raises one hand, then another raises another. Emindala says, "I would say yes, if they cannot be trusted, we don't want them in our backyard." Two settlers lurch to life, wandering out of the camp and into the woods. Alosaka asks, "Rodnay, were you not an orphan yourself, brought here to make a new home? Are these people not the same?" One of the blue-skinned boys looks at Alosaka. One of the blue-skinned boys lowers his head, then the rest follow. The two settlers return into view, coming to stand near the campfire, then cease moving. Pukk snaps his fingers. A quiet voice says, "Keep them away." Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "Almost had it." Emindala sighs exasperatedly. Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Story of the Landing."
Bellaja warns, "This is sadly not my first taste of the Hall doing a slight of hand, using the locals to obtain artifacts and power." Speaking to Bellaja, Leafiara considers, "I think I'm on fifth taste? Maybe fourth." Speaking to Leafiara, Bellaja says, "Good.. Someone else has had a time with them." Speaking wryly to Bellaja, Leafiara says, "I was on a list of three candidates for a Grand Magister who wanted to abduct someone to stuff his wife's soul into."

Chatter in the Snow
[Frith's Inn, Main Saloon]
Drawn by the aroma of good food and strong drink, you enter the main saloon. The innkeeper presides merrily, ensuring everyone gets a share of attention from the pretty serving wenches and the handsome lad behind the bar. Long benches and rectangular tables seat high-spirited patrons. You also see the red Corileath disk, a small horned frog, the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, some swinging doors and a cozy booth.

Icy flakes of snow descend from the night sky.
[Town Square Central]
This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Skoll disk, a ghostly raven that is flying around, the Mandrill disk, a ruffled black-mantled hawk that is flying around, an inlaid leather grimoire soaring around with its gilt-swept ethereal violet pinions, a yellow-eyed silvery lor mandrake sprouting yellow primroses, the web-draped Missoni disk, a lazy wild silver-grey dog, a large acorn, the Elliathe disk, the Cataclysm disk, the Vaemyr disk, the Mattch disk, a sleek raven, some wolifrew lichen, the Selucia disk, the flaming Nairena disk, a falcon, a forest wolf, a sinuous bone white serpent, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, a large acorn, a large acorn, a large acorn, a large acorn, a large acorn, a large acorn, a hummingbird feather, a round silver-banded barrel, an herbal remedy donation bin and some wide stone benches with some stuff on it.

A roaring bonfire demands attention from the center of this temporary town, its coppery gold flames mesmerizing as they dance. Rows of tents bordering the fire create purposeful pathways to other areas of the camp. You also see an inlaid leather grimoire soaring around with its gilt-swept ethereal violet pinions, a frost-covered yellow-eyed silvery lor mandrake with some wolifrew lichen on it, the web-draped Missoni disk, a lazy wild silver-grey dog, a stained wooden keg and a long wooden log.
Tikba says, "Good evening, friends."
Speaking in Aelotian to Tikba, Kayse offers something you don't understand.
Cryheart says, "Aha."
Goldstr says, "Der da keg."
Kelfyr says, "That was a bit of a sprint."
Vaemyr says, "We made it, just needed to circle the whole camp first."
Kelfyr says, "Had to do a reconnoiter."
Chandrellia asks, "So is this what all the settlers were cutting down our forest for? a Bonfire?"
Speaking to Vaemyr, Ulfwine says, ""checking for danger."

Enisius steps a bit back, then a further bit back, and pats down his robes.
Cryheart says, "Good evening, Magister Raelee."
Speaking to Enisius, Raelee adds, "You may grow used to the noise in time."
Speaking to Enisius, Kiyna says, "Not all signing up, mind. At least, I'm not."
Speaking to Enisius, Lylia says, "Optimistically, this could mean you have a great wellspring of thaumaturgical interest that remains untapped."
Enisius says, "Magister Svala."

Pukk whispers something to Leafiara.
Enisius gazes in wonder at his surroundings.
Cryheart says, "The Landing folk can be noisy at times."
Speaking suspiciously in Aelotian to Tikba, Kayse reasons something you don't understand.
Speaking to Enisius, Emindala says, "M'lord, it is a pleasure to meet you."
Enisius says, "Such chattering."
Enisius clears his throat.
Emindala asks, "At times?"
Enisius says, "Are you...all ma.."

Speaking to Enisius, Alosaka says, "We're all very impressed with the encampment the settlers have already managed to carve out of the wilderness, in such a short time."
Cryheart says, "'I wonder what smoked venalin tastes like."
Speaking to Cryheart, Puptilian says, "Good."
Cryheart says, "Good to know."
Speaking to Alosaka, Perigourd says, "The Reivers were a bit quicker."
Perigourd says, "But they were also in greater need."
Vaemyr says, "I think he's shellshocked." [there was a bit of a pause in the dialogue]
Enisius slowly empties his lungs.
Enisius says, "I am fine."
Cryheart says, "Good to hear."
Vaemyr grins.
Kayse wryly says, "He probably should check his hands for his notes."
Speaking to Vaemyr, Alosaka says, "Cold night, warm bonfire, it tends towards quiet moments of contemplation."
Enisius says, "I am told you may have a lot of questions, so we'll begin first with my application."
Speaking to Enisius, Bellaja offers, "Perhaps questions should be held til the end of your bit."
Bellaja says, "Some of us in the back can't hear as well."
Enisius nods at Bellaja.

The boy appears very young, short in height, with unnaturally bright pupil-less green eyes and blue skin. He has a bald head, a round childlike face, and a small nose. He is wreathed in a robe of ethereal green light, swirling about him like thrashing ribbons of emerald silk. The air shimmers and bends all around him, and periodically his form shifts, briefly revealing a slender blue hairless humanoid covered in hundreds of teeth and gnarled hands.

Two settlers lurch to life, wandering out of the camp and into the woods.

[Town Square, East]
Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, a blanket of snow, the Moot Hall and a large purple wooden barrel.
Speaking to Leafiara, Alosaka asks, "Was he always so talkative?"
Kelfyr says, "I have to admit I am curious just how far the boys could send someone."
Nairena says, "So a blue boy named Rodney."
Speaking to Alosaka, Leafiara recalls, "Well, he used to speak in more riddle-like language... this was a lot more direct than he used to be."
Irval asks, "Has this been here the whole time?"
Irval points at a black imperial wagon.
Speaking to Nairena, Evia says, "Boys."

Speaking to Emindala, Bellaja says, "Yes. It was painted on him."
Leafiara says, "Grand Magister Dennet and Quinshon abducted him and held him captive while he was in his weakened state after Talador, but eventually Mayor Crux found a way to negotiate for his release. Then Grand Magister Octaven wanted him turned over, but Crux rejected that and we fought to protect him. Afterward, he moved into the Reach and has been there since."
Speaking to Puptilian, Vaemyr says, "I worry much more what might happen if he is pushed too far."
Speaking to Puptilian, Leafiara says, "Thadston's wanted Rodnay dead for years."
Nairena says, "The boy stopped time around us and froze the settlers. That is a powerful skill."

Kiyna says, "If what I have heard is true, if he really wanted to, Rodnay could destroy us all with a thought. But he doesn't, and can clearly be reasoned with."
Emindala says, "Rodnay IS powerful, but he obviously couldn't get past the protections on their minds."
Evia says, "For the time being, it is a careful stand-off, I imagine. Someone does not know as much as they thought, perhaps. On to considering Plan B."

Speaking to Emindala, Vaemyr says, "Well... he still could control their bodies... even with those protections."

Speaking to Kiyna, Leafiara says, "I wouldn't say he's quite that powerful, but... it's not entirely far off. He crushed an army of Octaven's elementals by psychically twisting them, if I recall."
Irval says, "Err."
Emindala says, "And I would caution anyone planning to fill out one of his 'applications'."
Xorus says, "He may be able to force his way in if he tried."
Leafiara muses, "And he's probably only grown more powerful since then, absorbing the energy of the Reach."
Leafiara adds, "For five years."

Lylia says, "We do know someone else who can force her way into minds."
