Ensorcell Formula

A successful result occurs when the sum of the bonuses, penalties and d100 roll = 101 or higher

Ensorcell Formula = Level + INT bonus + WIS bonus + Sorcerer Base ranks (see note 1) + trunc(EMC ranks/4) + trunc(SMC ranks/4) + truncAS ranks/10) + trunc(MIU ranks/10) + Material Modifiers (+/-) + Ensorcell Tier Penalty (see note 2) + Item Enchant Penalty (see table) + 20 Workshop Bonus (if used) + Other Penalties (see note 3) + d100 roll

Note 1: Sorcerer Base ranks

  • Ranks up to level: +2 per rank
  • Ranks above level: +1 per rank

Note 2: Ensorcell Tier Penalties

  • Tier 0 to Tier 1: -50
  • Tier 1 to Tier 2: -100
  • Tier 2 to Tier 3: -150
  • Tier 3 to Tier 4: -200
  • Tier 4 to Tier 5: -250

Note 3: Other Penalties

  • Item property enhancements
  • Spirit: Yes (For a character with 10 spirit the penalty was 10 points per spirit deficit).
  • Injuries: Hinder
  • Armor undertraining: No penalty
  • Encumbrance: No penalty

Ensorcell Penalty Table

The values shown in this table represent base ensorcell penalties. Additional surcharges are added for items with special or enchanced properties.

Table Comments

1. An * indicates that there is no penalty increase from the previous tier.

2. Unlike the enchant formula where the penalty increases with each tier, ensorcell has a few tiers where no increase occurs. For example, the penalty for both +15 and +17 enchant bonus items is -25 (5^2).

3. Penalties listed in red are theoretical only and haven't been confirmed. Also note that a few of the penalties deviated by 1 point from the general pattern (1^2, 2^2, 3^2, 4^2...n^2).
