Log

Accusations and a Threat

[Most of the usual KST crew is gathered at Hearthstone, but reports come in from TSC:]

A deputy rushes in and whispers something to the night watchman. They both then quickly rush off.

[Some confusion ensues over whether this is standard messaging or not, but everyone looks for the watchman. They find him, but don't get anything more than an "Eh?" response out of him, so maybe it was standard messaging and nobody was familiar with it. However, shortly afterward...]

Suddenly there is a swirl of ethereal mist and a piece of parchment falls at Cruxophim's feet.

Cruxophim picks up a small white parchment that reads, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by Mayor.".

Madmountan says, "Whao."

Cruxophim tilts his white parchment side to side, making the light play off it.

Evia says, "Ah Ghost Mail."

Cruxophim confusedly mutters, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by mayor?"

Cryheart says, "How interesting."

Albanus says, "This should be good."

Madmountan asks, "Who?"

Ulkov says, "Well at least we don't have to convince him to read it.."

Irar asks, "Aldon?"

Speaking suspiciously to Puptilian, Cruxophim wonders, "What did you DO?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Puptilian says, "Retired."

Speaking disdainfully to Cruxophim, Nehor inquires, "Going to talk him to death?"

Puptilian says, "Name isn't one I recognize."

Cruxophim calmly repeats, "S'what it says: "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by mayor."."

Madmountan states, "Fake news."

Maags says, "Nobodies believes a scrap of paper."

Cryheart says, "Hmm..nae sure I know of a Jacob Aldon."

Thrassus asks, "How does one get mayored to death?"

Arnylon asks, "Which mayor? And who is that?"

Cruxophim offers Cryheart a small white parchment that reads, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by Mayor.".

Cruxophim looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "The ones you got from the militia who quit."

Cryheart accepts Cruxophim's white parchment.

Speaking doubtfully to Cruxophim, Marijka asks, "I bet this Jacob Aldon was a bandit after dark. You been out on bandit patrols?"

Speaking to Thrassus, Ulkov says, "Get elected."

Puptilian says, "Hunter, maybe it's the next kill...next "revenge"."

Nehor idly quips, "Its not part of my script for the play, either."

Speaking wryly to Ysharra, Cruxophim remarks, "No one likes a quitter."

Irar asks, "A parchment appears out of nowhere and he just wanders off?"

Speaking to herself, Guennwhfar says, "I really AM the rightful mayor."

You idly say, "Haven't heard of him either, but usually Crux is better at saving the dead in our town than making 'em."

A swirl of ethereal mist churns into view, and another parchment drifts to Cruxophim's feet as the mist quickly dissipates.

Cruxophim picks up a small white parchment that reads, "Marquis Schofield. New citizen. Death by Mayor.".

Cryheart says, "I see nothing."

Cryheart frowns.

Thrassus says, "Oh, he's putting on a show."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "A lot of idle hands at the same time. With militia training and equipment."

Cryheart says, "Ahhh."

Speaking seriously to Cruxophim, you assure, "They aren't mine this time."

Cruxophim wryly intones, "Marquis Schofield. New citizen. Death by Mayor."

Irar asks, "What manner of death, Rone?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus asks, "Oh, so these are all of the citizens you kill and eat, or maybe feed to those trees?"

Cryheart says, "Perhaps we should lock ye up."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Xorus asks, "You were killing nobles without us?"

Evia says, "Well, on the bright side, we finally have mail....of sorts."

Speaking confusedly to Cruxophim, Marijka asks, "Did you explode in Town Center one day and take out a whole bunch of citizens?"

Guennwhfar exclaims, "Crux is a secret killer; we need a mayor who is more open and aboveboard!"

Speaking inquisitively to Cruxophim, Meureii jests, "Your victims?"

Cryheart offers Cruxophim a small white parchment that reads, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by Mayor.".

Maags says, "Unless....was the smell he didnts care for."

Speaking gently to Albanus, Cruxophim assures, "I don't do that."

Cruxophim put a small white parchment that reads, "Marquis Schofield. New citizen. Death by Mayor." in his small eldritch coffin.

Cruxophim accepts Cryheart's white parchment.

Guennwhfar says, "Elect me and blood will run in the streets."

Cruxophim put a small white parchment that reads, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by Mayor." in his small eldritch coffin.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Maags says, "Does take getting used to."

Speaking to Marijka, Ysharra says, "That's hardly uncommon for him."

Meranda says, "Death by mayor that doesnt seem right."

Speaking to Marijka, Ysharra says, "That's his Feastday ritual."

Cryheart says, "Someone is busy."

Cruxophim amicably assures, "I grow in you. ...on you, grow on you."

Thrassus asks, "Is the next one going to say 'Death by clerk'?"

Elbromo says, "Wow air delivery."

Speaking to Meranda, Guennwhfar says, "Politics ... its a killer profession."

Arnylon asks, "Could these be some of the previous victims of the vigilante?"

Speaking to Thrassus, Marijka says, "I think tonight's theme is "death by mayor."."

You guess, "They'll probably all say death by mayor."

You nod at Marijka.

Speaking wryly to you, Cruxophim mutters, "Probably."

Speaking to you, Irar asks, "You'd prefer death by Leafi?"

Goldstr says, "Maybe collateral damage from da Mayor in battlin times."

Speaking flatly to Irar, you say, "No. I've made enough trouble."

Speaking to you, Irar says, "Life with Leafi, then."

Speaking dryly to Cryheart, Cruxophim remarks, "I do believe I'm being framed."

Maags says, "Maybes they mean indirectlies since he cants catch the vigilante."

Cryheart says, "Hmmm."

Cryheart nods at Cruxophim.

Xorus says, "Yes. Perhaps people killed in the Octaven assault, or some other conflict."

Cruxophim thoughtfully ponders, "Could be."

Cruxophim nods slowly at Xorus.

Speaking dryly to Cruxophim, Meureii asks, "Where is the fun in that?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Berkana asks, "Why does that surprise you?"

Rising from the ground, ethereal mist spins rapidly and a parchment is thrown to Cruxophim's feet as the mist vanishes instantly.

Cruxophim glances at a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor.".

Cruxophim picks up a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor.".

Evia says, "Or in some other time in Some Other Landing."

Cryheart says, "Another."

Cruxophim taps a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor.", which is in his left hand.

Albanus says, "Rook. Hmm."

Irar asks, "Rook, eh?"

Speaking to Xorus, Ysharra says, "Maybe it's the House Officers, upset they haven't been compensated for their towers yet."

Cryheart asks, "Or perhaps someone has foresight?"

Cruxophim slowly intones, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor."

Puptilian says, "So the question is, the list of previous names or the list of names to be killed."

You uncertainly ask, "Why would 'Rone' care about a Rook's death?"

Nehor disdainfully observes, "Rooks...those fellows with the masks."

Madmountan says, "I don't believe these people exist."

Dreuntar says, "These are the victims' names."

Albanus asks, "Where's Rusty?"

Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra asks, "What do you think, then?"

Speaking thoughtfully to Puptilian, Cruxophim wonders, "Good question."

Madmountan says, "Guess that shoulda been past tense."

Thrassus says, "Or just names that have been made up."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Xorus says, "If you are the heart of corruption, perhaps then you are responsible for all of their deaths."

You speculate, "Maybe this is another person who can also travel with mist."

Cruxophim amicably ventures, "Wait, I get to kill people?"

Madmountan says, "Not like Crux leaves any evidence. Handy when you eat your victims."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Marijka suggests, "You could always pardon yourself. I mean, nobody expects anyone to do a job with no perks at all."

Cruxophim put a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor." in his small eldritch coffin.

Cryheart says, "Ye sins are stacking up."

Elbromo says, "Is it safe to around the Mayor? Well thats always been question even before da vigilante."

Madmountan exclaims, "Proof, he's putting them in a coffin!"

Cruxophim wryly states, "You could just hand us the whole book."

You lightly remind, "We don't have any evidence of any of this."

Suddenly, there is a fog of ethereal mist, it spins behind Cruxophim and a note is dropped, just as quickly as the smoke vanishes.

Maags says, "Somebodies is blaming the mayor for not finding the murderer."

Speaking calmly to Cryheart, Cruxophim reminds, "I've been atoning for my sins for a long time."

Speaking slowly to you, Nehor inquires, "Is testimony, even written, not...evidence?"

Cruxophim picks up a small white parchment that reads, "Charles Golston. Traveler. Death by Mayor.".

Deckits says, "So... apparently this person believes you have killed quite a few people."

Cryheart says, "Someone is handing out notes, which accuse the mayor of killing someone."

Geijon asks, "What did I walk into?"

Vhaentyr says, "The mayor probably is the murderer."

Cruxophim recites:

"Charles Golston. Traveler. Death by Mayor."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "Somehow I think if it was the entire book, it might be a thousand pages or more."

Cryheart says, "The ethereal mist."

Speaking wryly to Geijon, Cruxophim remarks, "Good question."

Speaking seriously to Nehor, you reply, "The way it works out here... not really, from what I've seen."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Irar asks, "You recognize the names of any of these people you've killed?"

Geijon asks, "Th' vigilante eh?"

Cryheart nods at Geijon.

Cryheart says, "Perhaps."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Marijka complains, "Oh, come on now. You can hardly be responsible for the dangers travellers encounter outside city walls."

Speaking understandingly to you, Nehor drawls, "Ah. You just don't have evidence you like."

Madmountan says, "I know, these are Cruxophim's failed adventure guild escorts."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Berkana says, "Building up quite a reputation for you."

Speaking to Nehor, Ysharra says, "It depends on what they're being used to prove."

Speaking flatly to Irar, Cruxophim states, "Not these. Chaston. Drangell.... need I go on? Hmm."

Elbromo asks, "Its one of them 'Kiss an Kill' books?"

Speaking ruefully to Madmountan, Cruxophim mutters, "I thought I had those expunged?"

Guennwhfar asks, "I knew the election was rigged! And if he would stoop to that, can murder be that far fetched?"

Speaking smoothly to Cruxophim, Nehor assures, "All she says are lies."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus asks, "Perhaps people that have died since you were elected Mayor. Invasions, and what not?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Guennwhfar exclaims, "Confess!"

Speaking calmly to Shinann, Cruxophim inquires, "Wold you like these for evidence?"

Wintersylph softly says, "Der is no Temporal indication in dem notes, der have been more den just Crux as mayor since the Rooks have been here, Der is Walker, Pup, and Crux, Deaths could have occured by each, all, er none."

Cruxophim offers Shinann a small white parchment that reads, "Charles Golston. Traveler. Death by Mayor.".

You surprisedly ask, "Wait, testimony -does- count as evidence now? Where was this when Drandea wanted to accuse Dennet?"

Speaking to Lylia, Nehor informs, "You and Mistress Berkana gave quite the performance this eve."

Beldannon softly says, "I did it, I tell you and I liked it."

Cryheart says, "Watchman, chase the ethereal mist if ye can."

Beldannon softly says, "What I did is for me to know though."

Cruxophim offers Shinann a small white parchment that reads, "Charles Golston. Traveler. Death by Mayor.".

Shinann accepts Cruxophim's white parchment.

Irar says, "Interesting that he'd call out someone for the murder of Rooks, having killed more than a few himself."

Cruxophim removes a small white parchment that reads, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by Mayor." from in his small eldritch coffin.

Shinann put a small white parchment that reads, "Charles Golston. Traveler. Death by Mayor." in her raw silk bag.

Cruxophim offers Shinann a small white parchment that reads, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by Mayor.".

Shinann accepts Cruxophim's white parchment.

Shinann put a small white parchment that reads, "Jacob Aldon. Hunter. Death by Mayor." in her raw silk bag.

Cruxophim removes a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor." from in his small eldritch coffin.

Telum exclaims, "Objection! Hearsay!"

Cruxophim pores over a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor.", engrossed in the study of it.

Cruxophim offers Shinann a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor.".

Shinann accepts Cruxophim's white parchment.

Speaking idly to Irar, you agree, "That's why I think our mystery writer might not actually be 'Rone.'."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Madmountan exclaims, "Boo! Boo! Rubbish! Filth! Slime! Muck! Boo! Boo! Boo!"

Shinann put a small white parchment that reads, "Justin Mullen. Rook. Death by Mayor." in her raw silk bag.

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Berkana says, "I'm not sure why Crux would need to confess, he's never really attempted to hide anything, at least, in my experience. He's always been forthright."

Cruxophim absently notes, "No traces of blood."

Guennwhfar exclaims, "Objection! Immaterial!"

Wintersylph softly says, "Dey say Mayor, not Cruxophim, could be any of da Mayors we had."

Speaking to you, Irar says, "Interesting point."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Geijon mentions, "These notes aren't false per se, but context is important."

Speaking to you, Ysharra says, "It does seem a bit convenient."

Meranda says, "So I think is do we really want a murderer as a mayor?? We build a gallows string him up in a gibbet we'll be at Helga's for song and drinks in an hour."

Speaking thoughtfully to Wintersylph, Cruxophim notes, "Point."

Speaking to you, Ysharra says, "However."

Speaking sarcastically to you, Albanus says, "No, the killer isn't actually the ghost of Rone Wehinmer. You don't say."

Beldannon softly says, "He's my mayor."

Cruxophim thoughtfully speculates, "Perhaps... Walkar?"

Shinann says, "Nothing is proven."

Speaking to Meranda, Lylia says, "Yes, I am certain you have never harmed a soul."

Speaking to you, Ysharra says, "The vigilante was getting information from several sources."

Behind Cruxohim, a humanoid shape of ethereal mist rises, and a note falls to the Mayor's feet. The mist vanishes.

Telum exclaims, "Objection! speculation!"

Speaking boredly to Albanus, you ask, "What thing are you imagining me talking about this time?"

Cruxophim picks up a small white parchment that reads, "Terion Koonce. Shanty Town Vagrant. Death by Mayor.".

Geijon says, "This vigilante is not Walkar."

Cruxophim pores over a small white parchment that reads, "Terion Koonce. Shanty Town Vagrant. Death by Mayor.", engrossed in the study of it.

Guennwhfar says, "I volunteer to be Mayor pro tem after the hanging."

Beldannon yells, "He's still my mayor!"

Meranda says, "None that didn have it coming luv."

Geijon says, "Walkar had no pretense of being subtle."

Cruxophim recites:

"Terion Koonce. Shanty Town Vagrant. Death by Mayor."

Chamorr heartily says, "Notes."

Speaking idly to Cruxophim, Nehor inquires, "Are there not laws against littering?"

Evia says, "Maybe they were hapless victims of the Lich King, an old buddy of uhm....."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Marijka asks, "And now it's Shanty Town homeless? Have you no standards?"

Speaking slowly to Shinann, Cruxophim ventures, "...are there?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Xorus says, "You have all the fun."

Madmountan says, "Mayor Crux, always cleaning up Shanty Town."

Cryheart says, "Apparently not."

Berkana asks, "Is a vagrant on the same level as a Rook?"

Speaking ruefully to Marijka, Cruxophim reminds, "I wouldn't do that."

Mylenna asks, "Is it possible these people were killed during the Hendorian invasion?"

Speaking smugly to you, Albanus says, "It's okay. We all can't be responisble for causing a vigilante to take to the streets and start murdering people."

Lylia says, "With a name like 'Koonce,' the poor fellow may have chosen death."

Cruxophim offers Shinann a small white parchment that reads, "Terion Koonce. Shanty Town Vagrant. Death by Mayor.".

Cruxophim paces back and forth.

Shinann accepts Cruxophim's white parchment.

Speaking heartily to Cruxophim, Chamorr asks, "Someone else who dinna vote fer you?"

Shinann put a small white parchment that reads, "Terion Koonce. Shanty Town Vagrant. Death by Mayor." in her raw silk bag.

Speaking to Albanus, you sneer, "Someone would go to one of your confessionals and admit to sneezing and you'd take it to the law saying they summoned a sandstorm."

Speaking to Xorus, Ysharra says, "I think you must be right. These are deaths from the Magister conflict."

Speaking dryly to Chamorr, Cruxophim deadpans, "Yes, this is all the people who did not vote for me."

Speaking to Chamorr, Evia says, "I'm going with Lich's Landing victims, for now."

Speaking thoughtfully to Ysharra, Cruxophim opines, "Possible."

Speaking disdainfully to Cruxophim, Nehor drawls, "This town allows...votes?"

Speaking nonchalantly to Chamorr, Cruxophim jests, "I did warn them."

Goldstr says, "Dis jess be da Rone fella tryin ta gets is against da Mayor."

Elbromo says, "Well at least it not random."

Cryheart nods at Nehor.

Nehor disgustedly replies, "Ew."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Guennwhfar says, "Knew it! Mind you, I approve of the tactic ... very Dhe'nar ... but still."

Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "They're publicly blaming the Mayor for the Hall's little tantrum."

Meranda says, "Dead mayor in a gibbet sends would be maniacs who want to run the town we will not stand for it."

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Berkana says, "He's been taking lessons from Talinvor."

Telum says, "I humbly request permission from Cruxophim to treat Guennwhfar as a hostile witness."

Meranda says, "Easy."

Speaking nonchalantly to Guennwhfar, Cruxophim suggests, "Run for mayor properly this year."

Speaking to Ysharra, Xorus says, "Less of a vigilante in that case than a political terrorist."

Guennwhfar exclaims, "I'll give you hostile!"

Telum exclaims, "See!"

Vulpecular asks, "This is accusation in the most dramatic fashion, but where is the proof?"

Telum says, "Meh I need a bailiff."

Speaking amusedly to Berkana, Nehor confides, "You've had some recent practice in front of jury. Give her tips."

Speaking to the night watchman, Evia asks, "Excuse me but pieces of paper are accusing the mayor, does that count?"

Speaking to Ysharra, Lylia replies, "It is no surprise, really. The next step for one who proclaims himself a force for justice is to decide what 'justice' is and how it shall be meted out."

Cruxophim thoughtfully speculates, "This seems a rather... odd tact for a man who apparently has no qualms about killing to take."

Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "And they need an agenda to keep their precdence going."

Speaking thoughtfully to Cruxophim, you speculate, "An impasse. He isn't able to kill you, but also isn't able to get close enough or you'll kill him."

Another column of etheral mist swirls about, and a note falls to the Mayor's feet as the fog disappears.

Cruxophim picks up a small white parchment that reads, "Torie Sampson. Traveling priestess. Death by Mayor.".

Cruxophim pores over a small white parchment that reads, "Torie Sampson. Traveling priestess. Death by Mayor.", engrossed in the study of it.

Cryheart says, "Another."

Guennwhfar asks, "Qui custodiet custodes?"

Cruxophim recites:

"Torie Sampson. Traveling priestess. Death by Mayor."

Cruxophim frowns at a small white parchment that reads, "Torie Sampson. Traveling priestess. Death by Mayor.".

Speaking to Cruxophim, Marijka asks, "Wait. The priestess?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Geijon says, "She was hot."

Cruxophim offers Shinann a small white parchment that reads, "Torie Sampson. Traveling priestess. Death by Mayor.".

Shinann accepts Cruxophim's white parchment.

Chamorr heartily says, "I remember him."

Thrassus says, "This fellow must have sat around all day writing these."

Shinann put a small white parchment that reads, "Torie Sampson. Traveling priestess. Death by Mayor." in her raw silk bag.

Chamorr heartily says, "Er her."

Speaking confidently to Cruxophim, Meureii asks, "Now what did she do to deserve that end?"

Cryheart asks, "A priestess?"

Cruxophim uncertainly ventures, "I don't think THAT priestess."

Elbromo says, "He's rubbin our face in the 'audience' thing."

Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "If you run out of town clerks and wife beaters, why not the mayor? It's sure to cause enough confusion and sympathy, look at us."

Lylia mildly says, "Oh, no. Not a priestess. Wherever shall we find more Arkati-botherers? Such a pity."

Geijon says, "That was inner dialogue to him."

Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "There's voices in this crowd ready to string him up by the Town Central oak."

Shinann says, "Parchments are not proof..."

Madmountan says, "This is just making me want to see if I can achieve a higher score."

Speaking softly to Ysharra, Beldannon says, "Not gonna happen."

Speaking amusedly to Ysharra, you say, "Nah, that's just Albanus' one very dull and repetitive voice."

Speaking to Ysharra, Lylia says, "I was just out for a stroll. Had no idea I would encounter such a crowd...let alone one ready to assassinate a public official."

Speaking whimsically to Cruxophim, Nehor muses, "A hanging would make a good show."

Speaking to Madmountan, Marijka says, "Well, now we know why the vigilante went after you."

Speaking to Beldannon, Ysharra says, "It wouldn't work. Beside the point."

Meranda says, "How long could a gallows take to build."

Speaking to Marijka, Ulkov asks, "There was doubt?"

Meranda says, "If we all pull together."

Speaking to Ulkov, Marijka agrees, "Yes."

Speaking idly to Cruxophim, Nehor suggests, "The town seems to want blood. Yours. Perhaps giving them someone else's will satisfy their...lust?"

Speaking to Meranda, Guennwhfar says, "Just use the nearest tree."

Cryheart says, "Some of us are very sensitive about false accusations."

Speaking calmly to Nehor, Cruxophim reminds, "The town always wants blood. Hell, even I want blood."

Cryheart mutters barnomslim.

Meranda says, "Theres a big oak one."

Speaking to Nehor, Irar asks, "You volunteering?"

Nehor continues, "I've a few suggestions."

Deckits says, "Maybe the Vigilante is throwing his hat into the ring for Mayor.. and this is the beginning of his smear campaign."

Vulpecular says, "Lust is an interesting word for it."

Speaking nonchalantly to Nehor, Cruxophim warns, "Besides, may not want to cast the first stone there."

Elbromo says, "He knows how to die theatrically."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra asks, "What would work?"

Speaking haughtily to Irar, Nehor declares, "If the town hung me, then there'd be no one would be left of value."

Meureii offers, "I've got a nice net laying around somewhere."

Speaking to herself, Guennwhfar asks, "Damn! A smear campaign, why didn't I think of that?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra asks, "Fire? Iron coffin? Garlic?"

Geijon exclaims, "There is two!"

Again, a swirl of mist rises behind Cruxophim like a column of ash. A blood red note slips from the fog and falls at the Mayor's feet. The ethereal fog dissipates quickly amidst the falling snow.

Cruxophim picks up a small blood red parchment that reads, "Mayor Cruxophim. Death by Rone. Fashanos. 5118.".

Speaking to Maags, Geijon says, "Crux killed a pretty girl."

Cryheart says, "Blood red note."

Irar says, "Blood red..."

Cruxophim recites:

"Mayor Cruxophim. Death by Rone. Fashanos. 5118."
