The silver coin is the currency of Elanthia. Silver coins weigh approximately 160th of a pound, or 0.1 ounces. As such, carrying many silver coins affects one's encumberance.
Values of items is often measured in thousands of silvers. Rare magical items, such as those at or above being enchanted five times often have their values measured in millions. Silver coins are not uncommon, many merchants often expect to make millions.
Behind the Scenes
Silver coins can often be exchanged at a rate of about $15 (real money) to the million. Such activity is frowned upon by many members of the GemStone IV community.
