The stone gargoyle, an animated being, was once a huge, grey, granite carving that overlooked the castle walls. Standing over fifteen feet tall on its powerful hind legs, the stone gargoyle was sculpted with a body similar to a lion's and a head that is a grotesque union between a human and a bat. Long horns protrude from the forehead and needle-like fangs extend menacingly below the upper lip. Swirling, yellow-green eyes, the only non-rock portion of the beast's anatomy, coldly examine the surrounding area.

Hunting strategies

Stone gargoyles are immune to most offensive spells. Their Round Time on attacks is also very low (4-5 seconds) so using abilities to slow them down (such as a Paladin's Pious Trial (1602)) is recommended. Remove their legs before killing them to avoid being crushed upon their death.

Other information

Stone Gargoyles can leap at you causing minor damage and potentially inflicting a stun...

A stone gargoyle leaps at you with amazing speed and accuracy.
You jump back, but the gargoyle manages to claw you.

   ... 15 points of damage!
   Slash to your right arm!
Slices neatly through the skin and meets bone!
You are stunned for 1 round!

A stone gargoyle pants in slow heaves as it recovers from the exertion.

Stone gargoyles can fall on adventurers when killed, unless previously knocked down. This can cause serious injury.

You swing a scratched ora claidhmore at a stone gargoyle!
  AS: +326 vs DS: +79 with AvD: +26 + d100 roll: +83 = +356
... and hit for 120 points of damage!
   Right leg mangled horribly.
The stone gargoyle collapses to the ground, sending out a shower of rock and dust. It is all you can do to get out of the way.
The stone gargoyle falls in your direction. You leap to the side but stumble, failing to get out of the way and are crushed under the full weight of the gargoyle.
   ... 20 points of damage!
Your skull cracks in several places.
  Nice breeze up there now.
You are stunned for 8 rounds!
Roundtime: 7 sec.
