Subdue is a Rogue Guild skill and a Combat Maneuver that allows a rogue to take a weapon, preferably a small blunt weapon, and beat someone over the back of the head with it, possibly stunning or paralyzing the target with a chance of driving them to their knees. Subdue costs a large amount of stamina and creatures that wear armor that covers the head have a high chance of avoiding the attack, therefore limiting the usefulness of this maneuver. Do not use this skill for offensive purposes. Learn Subdual Strike instead. It is a very similar maneuver which requires about 60 less on the attack roll for success. A single rank in Subdual Strike beats guild mastery in Subdue.
With this skill, you hide, then jump out and whack your target with a weapon (daggers, maces, staffs, blackjacks, and a few other weapons add a bonus) and if you are successful, it stuns them, and can even paralyze them, or even knock them to their knees.

Smaller weapons increase the chances of success while the enemy wearing head protection reduce the chances of success. If a character is wearing double leathers, the head is considered to be covered by soft leather armor, while a character wearing metal breastplate is considered to have chainmail armor on their head. The higher the level of protection, the harder the target is to subdue. Also, training in Ambush and Combat Maneuvers increases the attacker's chance of success.
Your attack strength for this is figured much like Sweep, except that certain weapons can give an addes bonus, and if the victim is wearing a helm or coif, it will give a slight penalty.

With this skill, unlike sweep, you get random tasks. Eventually, this skill will get very very easy. You will get critters almost every task, and when you get garlic or mannequins, you'll finish them in a flash. Also, like sweep, the first rank of this skill will be a freebie with skilled masters.

Tasks
;Critters
Gaining ranks in all of the Rogue Guild skills requires the completion of numerous tasks. In some skills, the tasks are always in a certain order or always give the same amount of points to gain a rank. However, tasks given for Subdue are not in any particular order.
:This task gives you 15 training points and 150 exp.
This is the same as sweeping critters, but you have to subdue them. As you get more levels, it gets harder to find subduable critters, but you gain more stamina.

;Smashing Garlic
;Wiping windows
:Likely the easiest of the tasks, next to the mannequins. There is a series of steps that must be done before you can subdue the garlic, such as cleaning the block and placing a new clove on it. Once succeeding in smashing the garlic properly, one must place the garlic in the pot.
:This task gives you 5 training points and 50 exp.
First, you need to get a rag from the tool rack. There are 5 windows in all in Landing, two of them are located W and SW of the courtyard center, and there are three more through a passage SW of the courtyard center. To wipe a window, "rub window". If you get more than 5 reps, you must wait 10 minutes to be able to wipe the windows again.

;Mannequins
;Subdue Mannequins
:Put a melon on the mannequin's spike to give it a head then hit the melon without breaking it. The goal of this task is to put a dent in the melon without cracking or breaking it, and initially, doing so may require a number of attempts. As a character gains more skill, this task becomes easier and easier.
:This task gives you 5 training points and 50 exp.
For the first 30 ranks or so, this task SUCKS. To do this task, you must first "go man", then "subdue man", "clean man", and "put melon on man". This task will take you quite a while at first, but be patient, it will get easier in time.

;Critter Repetitions
;Subduing garlic
:This task usually takes a rather long time to complete due to the large amount of stamina that Subdue requires. Choosing a critter that does not wear armor is advised, as any head protection will reduce the chances of succeeding significantly.
:This task gives you 5 training points and 50 exp.
This task is very similar to mannequins, and is about equal in difficulty. To do this task, you must first go to the kitchen (see map), then "subdue block", "clean block", "put clove on block", and "put block in pot".

;Cleaning the Windows
:Just grab a rag from the store room and wipe the windows in the guild. Ta'Illistim has 7 windows, all other guilds have 5. If one has more than 5-10 repetitions, try going between guilds, as you have to wait about eight to ten minutes between repetitions within the same guild. If one is in Ta'Illistim, Ta'Vaalor, Kharam Dzu, or River's Rest, it would be better to wait within the guild or briefly finding something else to do due to the time required to travel to another town. It is advised to perform these tasks in Solhaven, Icemule Trace, or Wehnimer's Landing because of this.

There is no weapon requirement for characters that have trained to be unarmed specialists.

Do not use this skill for offensive purposes. Learn Subdual Strike instead. It is a very similar maneuver which requires about 60 less on the attack roll for success. A single rank in Subdual Strike beats guild mastery in Subdue.

Tasks

Gaining ranks in all of the Rogue Guild skills requires the completion of numerous tasks. In some skills, the tasks are always in a certain order or always give the same amount of points to gain a rank. However, tasks given for Subdue are not in any particular order.

Smashing Garlic
Likely the easiest of the tasks, next to the mannequins. There is a series of steps that must be done before you can subdue the garlic, such as cleaning the block and placing a new clove on it. Once succeeding in smashing the garlic properly, one must place the garlic in the pot.
Subdue Mannequins
Put a melon on the mannequin's spike to give it a head then hit the melon without breaking it. The goal of this task is to put a dent in the melon without cracking or breaking it, and initially, doing so may require a number of attempts. As a character gains more skill, this task becomes easier and easier.
Critter Repetitions
This task usually takes a rather long time to complete due to the large amount of stamina that Subdue requires. Choosing a critter that does not wear armor is advised, as any head protection will reduce the chances of succeeding significantly.
Cleaning the Windows
Just grab a rag from the store room and wipe the windows in the guild.
