Phoenatos 29-30, 5118

by Florania Autumnwind of the TownCrier

Summary

 • Sergha, from the elven settlement near the Red Forest, thanks the Landing for its concern but says that the village welcomes its cousins from Ta'Vaalor, saying their village will remain but "before us, behind us, and to the sides of us, shall be their walls of stone and sword."
 • He says that allies are prized in a world of darkness... And that the stars have shown darkness encroaching on the heels of "the timeless one." He also says "the woods born of shadows and blood"--the Deadfall--is alive once more and there is much to prepare for.

Log

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

You hear the faint tinkling of wind chimes.

A town guard upon the west tower overlooking the north gates leans forward, squinting against the night and rain. "Someone is approaching...." He taps another guard, and they turn their focus to the forest beyond.

[Several groups proceed to the north gate.]

[Wehnimer's, Outside Gate]

Citizens, merchants and assorted dregs of society jostle against you before the great wooden gates of Wehnimer's Landing. Harried guards and militiamen try to keep the chaos to a minimum, but it is hard to keep track of those entering, let alone leaving, this large trading post. A dirt path encircling the wooden palisade of the town leads east and southwest. Nailed prominently to the wooden wall beside the gate is a sign you really should read. You also see a reinforced wooden defense tower and the Wayside inn.

Stepping into view from the backdrop of the night and forest, a surly looking elf walks slowly past the edge of the woods. His eyes quietly regard those gathered, and the rain has made his brown clothes and boots look more black. A silver clasp rests on his shoulder, attached to the elf's long black cloak.

The elf holds up one hand, palm facing outward and nods.

The elf says, "We have heard word of your concern for us. It pleases us."

The elf says, "We are not far from you, but our reactions take time. They must be measured. Thoughts, actions. All of these have consequences."

The elf says, "We are grateful for your attention to our desires, and your offer of protection in defense of them."

The elf says, "In a world of darkness, there is no wealth more prized than allies."

The elf says, "We have spoken to our cousins."

The elf says, "We have heard of their intentions, and we have told them of ours."

The elf says, "We will not be uprooted. We shall not be displaced. Our home, our village, will remain. But before us, behind us, and to the sides of us, shall be their walls of stone and sword."

The elf says, "The Blood Forest is alive once more to the world. There is even more darkness on the horizon. On yours, on ours."

The elf says, "In a world of darkness, there is no wealth more prized than allies." He repeats.

The elf says, "The Red Forest was marred by such horrors. That which was once lost to the world, now endangers it again."

The elf says, "But it is not the only wooded depths we must concern ourselves with."

The elf turns slightly, eyes to the south, in the direction of the Upper Trollfang.

The elf says, "The woods born of shadows and blood."

The elf says, "The stars have shown it. Darkness encroaches. It comes on the heels of the timeless one."

The elf says, "We welcome our cousins and allies. Our way of life shall be protected."

The elf says, "We are thankful for your words and aid. We are at peace with this. We have much to prepare for."

The surly looking elf says nothing more, nods, and then turns to walk off into the depths of the forest, slowly blending in before vanishing altogether.
