Pre-made Signature Verb list - November 2017:
==Pre-made Signature Verb List==

October 2018

There are a few verbs pulled from each of four different lists, so some, if not all, will look a bit familiar to you (but because they're from different lists, some may have the same name -- we can always change the name of the signature verb, so don't fret!). Remember that non-targeted verbs can only be used as stand-alones; targeted verbs can only be used with targets -- usually this is a player target, but if you would prefer an object target instead, we can set the verb up that way so long as it makes sense for using with a target.

The Pie Shop - Prize Redemptions

All requests need to be in to me by 3/12. The process from here is basically that you let me know what you've got in mind. Once we're settled on something between the two of us (i.e. you like your designs and I'm pretty confident that they'll pass QC), then I submit to QC. If minor changes are needed during QC, I'll generally just make them; major ones I'd discuss how to handle with you. Once QC is done with it, we set up a time for redemption. Then you redeem, and all the things!

Custom Nightmare

This post gets into more details: Post - Custom Nightmares

You will need to supply the following:

  • The opening paragraph to the Nightmare. Try to keep it succinct (i.e. < 300 characters), though you can go longer.
  • The second paragraph to the Nightmare. Try to keep it succinct (i.e. < 300 characters), though you can go longer.
  • A generic word (one word) that will work for the various pre-set damage messaging that follows

Example custom nightmare (from the above post):

Holding you in his gaze, Strath utters a foul curse upon you in Elven.
CS: +509 - TD: +31 + CvA: +19 + d100: +69 - -5 == +571
Warding failed!
You shiver as a cold wind suddenly blows through the area. It was probably nothing.
>
An ominous black haze edges around your vision. As you struggle to focus, you suddenly feel yourself teetering in the top of a very tall tree. -----> opening paragraph
>
The tree in which you're trying to keep steady is very ugly. Oh no, you just fell out! Your body crashes into the boughs and limbs as they rush up at you... -----> second paragraph
>
You suffer a devastating strike! -----> "strike" is the generic word for this nightmare
... 62 points of damage!
You are stunned!
S>
You are able to move again.
>
An incredible strike leaves you reeling! -----> that one word again, "strike"
... 66 points of damage!
You are stunned!

Custom Spell Prep

Spell preps are hopefully pretty straightforward to those of you who won. If you have questions about what they are, let me know.

You will need to supply the following:

  • Do you want the spell to: (1) apply to all of your spell circles; (2) apply to only one spell circle - specify which; or (3) apply to one specific spell only - specify which. The spell messaging shouldn't be overly contradictory to whatever type of spells will be cast.
  • 1st person messaging for the preparation
  • room messaging for the preparation
  • hidden messaging - if you are hidden, and your prep makes noise or is emiting light or whatnot, there should be some sort of messaging for the room; if your prep is entirely silent/quiet/hidden, then this isn't needed
  • do you want this spell prep restricted to just your account, or do you want to keep it open for other characters to use?

Example spell prep:

1st person: You weave your fingers nimbly through an intricate pattern and exhale a guttural word under your breath.
Room message: Kaikala weaves her fingers nimbly through an intricate pattern and exhales a guttural word under her breath.
Hidden room message: You hear someone mutter a guttural word under their breath.

Custom Signature Verb

Signature verbs are essentially flexible ACTs unique to a given character in that they omit the ( )s normally attached to an ACT. Remember, though, that signature verbs should not force another character to appear to do something nor should they allow a character appear to do things that are impossible via the normal magic and physics of GemStone. Signature verbs do not give you special magical abilities -- this means that if you wish for lightning to bolt out of your fingertips via a signature verb, that will not fly, since this is something that does not really make sense with ACT, but is instead in the realm of spells that certain professions cast. There is a fuzzy line when it comes to magic and signature verbs, and one must always remember that these are meant for normal actions within Elanthia -- not for actions that are not normally possible. Also, a signature verb is not intended to replace SAY, nor is it intended to create situations (whether props, people, or critters) that fall outside of what you, by yourself, can do with an action.

The signature verb, when chosen, can be a) an existing verb; or b) a verb that does not exist. This will not effect the way that your existing verbs work in any way at all. The signature verb simply creates an *extra* option for the verb.

You will need to supply the following:

  • One-word 'name' for your signature verb (you'll use SIGNATURE <name> to execute your verb)
  • What type of target would you like -- no target; a player target; an object target; or a critter target. At this time, you can only choose one of those options.
  • 1st person messaging
  • Room messaging
  • if you chose a player target, you'll also need target messaging (i.e. what your target sees).

Example signature verbs:

Using SIGNATURE WHISTLE (this one is set to be directed at an item/object)
Room message: Kaikala raises her head and lets out a piercing whistle aimed at (object target).
1st person: You raise your head and let out a piercing whistle aimed in (object target)'s direction.
Using SIGNATURE EXAMINE (this one is set to be directed at another character)
Room message: Kaikala stands unusually close to (target), examining (his/her) face.
Target's pov: Kaikala stands unusually close to you, clearly examining your face.
1st person: You stand unusually close to (target), carefully examining (his/her) face to look for signs of emotion.
Using SIGNATURE BOW (this one is set with no target)
Room message: Kaikala bows respectfully, the motion accentuating her short stature.
1st person: You bow respectfully, taking note of just how close the ground is while in this position.

Custom Swear

Custom swears are similar to signature verbs but are always meant to be something a character would do in place of straight-up swearing. Additionally, swears function around a "swear verb" followed by a "swear phrase", where the substance of the "swear verb" will remain the same across all iterations, and where the "swear phrase" following it will be used by all points of view in both stand-alone swearing and targeted swearing (which is important to know because it means that you cannot use pronouns inside of the swear phrase (ie. 'his/her' etc.)). Note that the "swear verb" can include an adverb if it is consistently applied across all uses (eg. "darkly glowers" would work in the example noted below).

Custom swears must conform to player ACT and speech policies, no magic used in them, etc.. Custom swearing may contain speech, but that speech must not be obscene or likely to offend other characters or their players. For this reason, do not use player names in SWEAR MINE messaging. NPC names, critter names, and historical figures may be used appropriately. Messaging also must not impose any action or reaction on the part of other characters.

Custom Swear "swear verb" example:
1st person: glower
3rd person: glowers
Targetted: glowering
Custom Swear "swear phrase" example:
Swear phrase/substance: while muttering something indecipherable and twitching violently with anger.
Custom Swear - final output when combining the verb and phrase:
1st person: You glower while muttering something indecipherable and twitching violently with anger.
3rd person: Peretta glowers while muttering something indecipherable and twitching violently with anger.
Targetted 1st: You swear at (target), glowering while muttering something indecipherable and twitching violently with anger.
Targetted 3rd: Peretta swears at (target), glowering while muttering something indecipherable and twitching violently with anger.

EZScript

Winners for this prize receive 4 verbs to one item. EZScripts let you add customized verbs to an item. The item in question cannot have a script on it already, as the two will interfere with each other. An item with a previously existing EZScript, however, may have more verbs added via EZScript but will max out at 10 verbs total.

Currently supported verbs: clean, close, hug, kiss, open, pinch, poke, pull, push, raise, rub, tap, tickle, tilt, touch, toss, turn, wave, flip, remove, wear, lace, smell. Note that the verbs are what will be added in as activators, but they are not necessarily mentioned within the messaging (as long as it still makes sense in some fashion or another.)

EZscripts do not imbue items with special powers; as such, non-magical items will not suddenly catch fire while you wave them through the air. Some items that are already magical may have more flexibility here, though it will depend on the build of the item and how appropriate the messaging is to EZScript; in general, don't rely on getting an exception. EZScripts cannot be targetted at other players, and they should not force action/reactions on other characters or a room, nor should they handle your normal speech output. Note that some verbs may automatically knock you out of hiding.

You will need to supply the following:

  • What the item is
  • Which verbs you will be using from the supported verb list
  • First person messaging for each verb
  • Room messaging for each verb
  • Hidden messaging for any applicable verbs (if your 1st/room messaging is something that would be seen/heard even while in hiding, this is required).

Example EZScripts:

RAISE
1st Person: You muster an angry expression and tightly clench your <item>. With a quick motion, you raise it lengthwise overhead and snarl angrily.
Room message: With a narrowed fiery-eyed glare, Kaikala firmly grasps her <item> and jarringly thrusts it horizontally overhead. Doesn't look happy!
TAP
1st Person: You slam the end of your <item> harshly against the ground while gazing across the area. *CRACK* That was much louder than you expected!
Room message: An explosive noise erupts as Kaikala violently slams the end of her <item> against the ground. With a stern, emotionless stare she slowly gazes back and forth.
Hidden room message: An explosive noise erupts from seemingly nowhere and echoes through the area.
WAVE
1ST Person: While waving your <item> around in circles, you sway in dramatic dance.
Room message: With all the frenzy of a wildfire, Kaikala waves her <item> around in circles while swaying dramatically in dance.

Keg Customization

You will need to supply the following:

  • the keg's base (15/15/15), where the noun has to be "keg". You will need to supply rarer materials if they're able to be used (i.e. if they don't have any special properties that QC will flag as being not allowed for this type of keg).
  • the keg long or show description, if you desire one of those.
  • the drink that gets poured out of the keg (15/15/15) -- for example - "a mug of,apple, beer". If you want a long description that works with it, that's fine (just no show). You can use a "titled" drink -- but it will still have to pass QC muster. If you're planning to use player character names not belonging to you, we can discuss that further, as there are sometimes limitations in that regard.
  • 2 standard taste messages. This is basically what your drink tastes like. For the taste messages, you can see below on the two different apple beer "standard" tastes how that looks when they do fire off. Those are fairly short taste messages; you can get longer. If you get waaaaayyy too long, I'll let you know.
  • Optional: you may supply 2 additional taste messages for a specific race or culture (and state which race or culture they are for). You don't HAVE to do a racial or cultural messaging set, but the option is there if you want it.

Example keg:

>tap keg
You tap a small bronze-banded keg, which is in your right hand.
>drop keg
You place your bronze-banded keg on the ground and pull out a small locking pin on the tap.
[note on above --> other people won't be able to pick the keg itself up for the first 30 minutes it's on the ground.]
>l keg
The keg is made up of rich wood banded in a thin copper material.
>pour keg
You pour yourself a mug of spiced apple beer.
>glance my beer
You glance at the spiced apple beer in your hand.
>drink my beer
You take a drink from your spiced apple beer.
You have 5 quaffs left.
>drink my beer
You take a drink from your spiced apple beer. Full-bodied and tannic, the beer leaves a taste of apple and molasses-like caramel upon your tongue.
You have 4 quaffs left.
>drink my beer
You take a drink from your spiced apple beer. Tart apple flavors break through the heady foam of the smooth, sweet beer.
You have 3 quaffs left.
>get keg
You pick up a small bronze-banded keg, carefully setting a locking pin back in the tap.

Custom Logon/Logout

Your login messaging is to replace the "Kaikala just arrived." in the room your character is logging into and the "Kaikala joins the adventure." in the arrival window. Your logoff messaging is to replace the "Kaikala just left." in the room your character just logged out of and "Kaikala returns home from a hard day of adventuring." in the departure window. Generally speaking, for the room view, you'll need to keep the messaging within the realm of actual possibility for your character, it should be feasible in almost any area, and it cannot include speech. The arrival/departure window messaging has a lot more flexibility with what you can do.

You will need to supply the following:

  • Login messaging - room view
  • Login messaging - arrival window message
  • Logoff messaging - room view
  • Logoff messaging - departure window message

Example custom logon:

Room view: Tamuz arrives, studiously observing his surroundings.
Arrival Window Message: * Tamuz arranges his quills and parchments, ready to begin!

Example custom logoff:

Room view: Tamuz utters a few complex phrases and walks off.
Arrival Window Message: * Tamuz returns home, closing this chapter of his book.

Pre-made Signature Verb List

October 2018

There are a few verbs pulled from each of four different lists, so some, if not all, will look a bit familiar to you (but because they're from different lists, some may have the same name -- we can always change the name of the signature verb, so don't fret!). Remember that non-targeted verbs can only be used as stand-alones; targeted verbs can only be used with targets -- usually this is a player target, but if you would prefer an object target instead, we can set the verb up that way so long as it makes sense for using with a target.

Please see https://gswiki.play.net/Ebon_Gate_2018/GHOUL#General_Prize_List for the GHOUL general prize list for EG 2018.
