There are three primary cobbling tools used to make cobbled footwear via the cobbling system. They are the chalk, measuring cord, and cutting knife. While the cutting knife and measuring cord only need to be purchased once, chalk is a finite resource and will eventually be used up. All three cobbling tools can be purchased at the local Cobbler's Guild cobbling supply shop.

Chalk

Chalk is used to mark out a cobbling pattern on an approriate cobbling material. This is done in a cobbling workshop, after placing the upper or sole material on the worktable. While holding a book of patterns and the chalk in each hand, use GAZE PATTERN.

Analyze

You analyze the greyish violet chalk and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer.

You get no sense of whether or not the chalk may be further lightened.

Cutting Knife

A cutting knife is used to cut a cobbling material while working in a cobbling workshop after the upper or sole has been measured and marked.

Most cutting knives have a stock description:

The cutting knife is short and very sharp. It is probably not much good in a battle, but it would be great for cutting leather.

Analyze

You analyze the cutting knife and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer.

You can tell that the knife is as light as it can get.

Measuring Cord

A measuring cord is used to record the measurement of a person's foot to ensure that the cobbled footwear is made to be a perfect fit. Wearing cobbled footwear that has been measured for a character adds slightly different messaging when wearing or removing the footwear.

It is also used early in the cobbling process in a cobbling workshop. After chalk has been used to mark a pattern, use MEASURE (material) before cutting it with a cutting knife to ensure that it is the appropriate length.

Analyze

You analyze the knotted cord and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer.

You get no sense of whether or not the cord may be further lightened.

Usage

Verb First Third
LOOK The knotted cord is about three handspans long. Tightly wound knots are spaced evenly along its length, and twelve ruby-colored beads are threaded along it in an uneven pattern.
You remember that you measured Person with the cord.
N/A
MEASURE {CHARACTER} You wrap your cord around Person's leg and foot in several different directions. You slide the beads up and down the length of the cord, pushing them across the knots, keeping track of your various measurements.

Roundtime: 15 sec.
Person quickly takes several measurements of your foot and lower leg using her knotted cord.
PULL You pull all the beads to one end of your cord, clearing all of the measurements you might have made. This section has not been added yet; please add to it now!
