Kree says, "Although I spend little time reading from old tomes in library towers....my memory goes back a fair shade..."

Kree says, "And although I can't cast a single dark spell of necromancy....I've been told I talk as much as any sorcerer you'll ever meet."

Briggette chuckles.

Corrig grins.

Marlkon chuckles.

Chronoglass smiles.

Ashemu whistles tunelessly to himself.

Kree says, "So I apologise in advance, for the poor telling I am to give of a truly amazing tale.."

Vickylynn touches one finger to her lips.

Kree says, "For this is a tale...in some ways like others you may have heard, and yet like none other you will know."

You smile at Zondarkin.

Corrig grins.

Kree says, "Power...Strength...Control..."

Kulldy raises his fist defiantly.

Kree says, "My people, the Dhe'nar, live by these values...And yet...we are not alone. Many in this world also crave such things for their own."

Grogg nods.

Zsaru scowls.

Corrig leans back.

Kree says, "Many a great and powerful force has tried to take something and make it theirs...Time and again, outside these very walls dark fiends have attempted to overpower this small corner of Elanthia, have they not"

You nod to Kree.

Kree says, "Armies of chaos, legions of evil...we've heard it before..."

Vickylynn nods to Kree.

You nod.

You shiver.

Ktaaki leans back.

Vindartin just arrived.

Kree says, "But...not all power comes from the mighty warlord who rides into the lands of the fallen. Not all power rests on the shoulders of those who walk the lands proudly and sing their songs of war."

Kree says, "There are those...who act with a subtle hand...those who would guide matters and take all that flow downstream."

Kree says, "This is the thieve's world...This is the land of the underworld..."

Kree says, "And it is this world, that this this tale will teach you something of."

Kree says, "For no greater Guild in all the underworld exists...then that called Swalafat..."

Kree takes a drink from his Lich Premium Lager.

Kree surveys the area.

Corrig raises an eyebrow.

You smile at Kree.

Fasco smiles at Ashren.

Kree says, "It was 5 long years ago, that a young thief was hunting pumas outside the crystal blue lake adventurers still walk by to this day. When she came across a young woman, who she had never spied before that day. The woman was young, with a crop of sunny hair and dark eyes. She walked silently in a bodysuit of dark shadows and he serrated blade hung easily at her side."

Starsnuffer slips out of the shadows.

Starsnuffer sits down.

Corrig bows to Starsnuffer.

Ktaaki smiles at Starwind.

Kree says, "They took each other in, measuring their distances as any adventurer who knows their way around the wilds will do. Greeted one another and set off on a lively hunt. In the end they were successful, and the stranger gaves the young thief a small ring, and her name. Tressa."

Ktaaki smiles at Starsnuffer.

Starwind blinks.

Zimmeron smiles at Ktaaki.

Kree says, "Guard this ring well....' she said. 'for it will protect you in the days to come.' And with that she was gone into the wilds."

Ktaaki leans back.

Florin removes a fresh raisin tart from in his hooded greatcloak.

Ktaaki rubs a crystal amulet.

Kree says, "s words that caught the young rogue's attention. "You know, picking boxes can be dangerous," he said in a casual tone. "I hear that's not so popular around here." Was all he said. A curious figure indeed, strolling down into the crowds of the busy square."

Shirkon asks, "Huh?"

Zimmeron put a rolton pelt in his heavy backpack.

Vickylynn blinks.

Kree says, "Those were the words of a shadowy man, unknown before that day...And this persisted for a few more days, each act more curious then the last..."

Corrig furrows his brow.

Kree says, "Meanwhile, the Rogue's guild of Wenhimer's Landing was much active then. An orginization or tight knit comrades, they offerred a wealth of services, some more likeable then others to the local population. During one particular day, several of the thugs were gathered around the town gates looking for easy marks..."

Emeraldwand wipes the sweat from his brow.

Kree says, "On that particular day, a young thief they'd never seen came strolling by, giving them a friendly mark of one who knew the trade, he made idle talk for a while, putting the Guild members at ease..."

Kree says, "He mentioned his friends, a group going by the name Swalafat that might be passing through town. They were a merchant guild he said, out from the baronies down south looking to expand their business."

Corrig grins.

You smirk.

Kree says, "The guild was suspicious. The thief obviously had made it a point to bring it up with them; a tolkien of things to come among orginizations who dealt on subtle words for subtle actions. And so an uneasiness set in over the Rogue's guild, who were seeing all manner of strangers making contact throughout the township and countryside..."

Kree says, "And then things truly began..."

Kree surveys the area.

Kree takes a drink from his Lich Premium Lager.

Ktaaki shifts her weight.

(Ktaaki props her chin in her hands, intrigued.)

Ekasha leans forward.

You lean forward.

Emeraldwand frowns.

Emeraldwand leans forward.

Kree says, "it was during a secret meeting of the Rogue's guild, held in a dark and distance place that was safe from pyring ears and eyes. It was then that a young rogue, grinning from ear to ear came walking lightly into the fireside circle, causing steel to be drawn and torches doused."

Corrig grins.

Strun fidgets.

You give your eyebrow a little workout.

Vurkanaan stands up.

Vurkanaan just went up.

Florin's face turns slightly pale.

Kree says, "But the young man just smiled, keeping the easy manner that had put the young rogue's at ease on the gate just a few days prior. He greeted the council, introducted himself as a fellow named Ibin. He was pale, thin and had a sunken look in his eyes. He said he had come on business and should be heard out for the Guild's well being."

Anastaza leans forward.

(Alacyla rest her chin on her knees as she listens intently)

Ekasha raises an eyebrow.

Ktaaki tilts her head back.

Kree says, "He said his orginization, Swalafat was sending representitives to the Landing. They wanted to establish their own "operations" to work along side the Rogue's Guild. He wanted to talk profit margins, box collections, and new picking rules..."

Corrig chuckles.

Juspera leans back.

You blink.

Kerl grins.

Vickylynn rubs her chin thoughtfully.

Ekasha grins.

Aluisa wrinkles her nose.

Zephina rubs her chin thoughtfully.

Kree says, "Pressed further, he made is very plain at last....Swalafat, this phanton group that all the Landing knew nothing of, save brief whispers and casual remarks wanted the Rogue's Guild of all the landing to halt their picking....immedietely....or face consequences."

Arwen smiles ruefully and whispers to Kerl "Profit margins give me a headache."

Zerbinetta blinks.

Alacyla grins.

Emeraldwand blinks.

Brookwyn blinks.

Vickylynn blinks.

Kree asks, "Now what would most do?"

You blink.

Volxarr rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Kree surveys the area.

Idyllwild says, "pick"

Kulldy nods.

Ktaaki says, "Laugh and go on picking."

Zsaru asks, "What kind of consequences?"

Ekasha frowns.

Naydia nods.

Chronoglass says, "tell em where ta go"

Emeraldwand says, "Clean his pockets or gut his throat"

Kerl nods to Idyllwild.

You say, "Knowing the rogues I've met....they laughed."

Idyllwild nods to Ktaaki.

Kree asks, "From the adventurers I've seen over the years, they'd go right about their business, and not pay attention save to bang their chest and mouth off to any who presumed to tell them what to do. Am I right?"

Ekasha nods.

Corrig smiles knowingly.

Ashemu begins chuckling at Kree.

Marlkon exclaims, "Indeed!"

Kulldy raises his fist defiantly.

Idyllwild pokes Rther in the ribs.

Zimmeron looks over at Kree and shakes his head.

Kree says, "But these were thieves, dear friends....true members of the underworld that has a long and established history all Elanthia...Matters are not always so simple, so easily decided upon...An enemy not fully measured is an enemy a sword's length closer..."

Corrig chuckles.

Naydia nods to Kree.

Chronoglass nods to Kree.

Kerl rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Rther nods to Kulldy.

(Chronoglass rubs his neck.)

Dellenne nods to Batanaka.

Kree says, "The Guild decided to consider the "offer" of Swalafat. Do ponder how best to deal with this rival guild looking to muscle in on their territory. So they were all smiles with young Ibin, sending him packing with assurances of talks to follow."

Ekasha smiles darkly

Corrig grins.

Emeraldwand rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Dellenne just hugged Kulldy.

Zsaru says, "Battle is near, I fear."

Vickylynn scratches her head.

Kree says, "The Guild was bitterly divided on how best to handle the matter. Some wanted to say damn them and pick away as always, continuing to take in profits. But others wanted to wait, to let Swalafat reveal themselves fully before taking a plan of action."

Fasco smiles and draws a line across his throat with his stubby finger.

Ekasha begins chuckling at Fasco.

You rub your chin thoughtfully.

Fasco smiles at Ekasha.

Kree says, "So they discussed the matter, and left it off until they could come to a conclusion. But a conclusion would be made for them only a few hours later. It was later that evening, under the moon of a light summer's eve in the town square. Back then fewer people lined the aveneues, and the square was thought of as light and open, with a friendly atmospher always prevailing."

Corrig nods.

Arwen smiles as she thinks back to her first days in the square.

Ekasha leans forward.

Fasco thrashes around on the floor.

Kulldy nods to you.

Kree says, "A young rogue was hard at work, making his quota for the guild bringing in the scoops. Two scoops of coins per chest, that was price back then, and it was uniform thanks to the Guild's orgnization. Well the young rogue had no sooner heard the familiar *PoP* of the lock when a dark figure lunged from behind the old oak tree, burying a massive bastard sword in the young rogue's back."

Alacyla fidgets.

Dellenne nods to Batanaka.

Ekasha's jaw drops.

Naydia blinks.

Ashren nods.

Breron rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Kerl's face turns slightly pale.

You ask, "In the back?"

You mutter something inaudible.

Kree says, "He was medium height, burly, and dark skinned. A simple glance would tell you he was a human, perhaps strong and well conditioned. But a closer inspection revealed more...Red eyes, and small fangs at his lips, this creature was a nightmare, a twisted, savage blend of man and orc...He announced himself as Amoke, here to punish any who broke the law of no chest openings within town walls. He slid his fierce blade from the shoulders of the limp form beneath him, and fell back into the shadows of the night."

Corrig smiles.

Alacyla shivers.

Dellenne shivers.

You shudder.

Naydia shudders.

Fisdan blinks.

Marlkon sighs.

Corrig smiles knowingly remembering Amoke.

Ekasha raises an eyebrow.

Ashemu scratches at a stained turban with a large stone set in its center that looks strangely like a prophetic eye.

Breron rubs Tessarah gently.

Kerl says, "talk about being run Amoke"

Kerl ducks his head.

Zerbinetta stares at Kerl.

You elbow Kerl in the ribs in a playful sort of way.

Ekasha laughs!

Ekasha shakes her head.

Vickylynn's face turns slightly pale.

Kree says, "Chaos ensued. The locals went up in riot, most knowing nothing of any rival guild, or any mention of Swalafat. Rumors were rampant, like wildfire spreading through the town. The Guild sprang into action, taking to the streets and searching for the half orc in vain..."

Kree says, "When the search proved fruitless, several left the town's walls going out into the dark night to continue the hunt...Well the half orc was not to be found, but another man did strike out of a clearing to greet a band of older Rogues..."

Ekasha leans forward.

You raise an eyebrow in Kree's direction.

Ktaaki bites herself!

Kree says, "He was an older man, with soft eyes and a quiet nature to him. His hair was short and braided in the style of the ports along the eastern coastline and he wore a black brimmed hat low over his eyes. A small nicked platinum stiletto hung at his side and he fingered a ring that the Guild members had seen before..."

Brookwyn leans forward.

Ekasha raises an eyebrow.

Corrig grins.

Kree says, "The ring was made of green fired mein, set with a small marquis cut ruby. The Guild members realized where they had seen it before; on the hands of every Swalafat member so far encountered. He was Mipiun, and introduced himself as the head of Swalafat in this region..."

Zsaru blinks.

Corrig chuckles.

Kree says, "He spoke of the night's terror, claiming that Amoke was under him but a bit of a maverick, misguided and uncontrollable. He stressed that Swalafat was here to work side by side with the Guild, to promote common interests so that both parties could profit..."

Marlkon chuckles.

Starsnuffer whispers, "that always works good"

(Ekasha holds her breath)

Kree says, "He made a strong case, speaking of the directive from the central Guild above him, and providing documents for the Rogue's to inspect. A fine tale indeed."

(Zimmeron gets a confused look on his face)

Ktaaki cocks her head at Kree.

Corrig grins.

Kree says, "The Rogue's were obviously hesitant to believe him, but they left his head for the moment, set on reaching some sort of policy on how best to deal with the competition that was finally here and fully revealed..."

Kree takes a drink from his Lich Premium Lager.

(Kree wipes his lips and takes a deep breath to go on.)

Volxarr blinks.

Kree says, "The Rogue's met again, to take action and deal with this threat. They decided they too could play both sides of the coin as Swalafat had done. They would split their forces, having half defy the guild and pick boxes, look for trouble, and generally cause havoc with Swalafat. The other half would remain diplomatic, stressing understanding and mutual interest. They thought they too could isolate Swalfat's members, and pick them apart one by one hopefully taking this well trained, well supplied guild for all they were worth."

Corrig chuckles.

Ekasha leans forward.

Kree says, "Days went on, the picking continued, as did the murders on both sides...Violence was heavy within the town walls, as the constable led groups of armed militia in all night vigils to preserve the town's sanctity."

Vickylynn scratches her head.

Kerl furrows his brow.

Kree says, "And then after a particular bloody incident, Ibin returned to the Rogue's Guild, with big news that would turn the tide of this impasse..."

Ekasha raises an eyebrow.

Zephina leans forward.

Anastaza raises an eyebrow.

Dellenne mutters under her breath.

Kree says, "It seemed Amoke had gone too far, leading a group of Swalafat loyal to him, he planned to take over the town, and use it as a base of strength to muscle over all of Swalafat for himself. The crazy half orc couldn't be content to be a thug if he wasn't the top thug. And furthermore, he was blaming the violence on Ibin, and more Swalafat members were on the way to clear up the confusion and set things right..."

You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process.

Anastaza scratches her head.

Kree says, "Ibin needed the Rogue's guild to represent him in high talks between the Swalafat elite that were coming to Wenhimer's Landing. He promised to cut The Rogue's Guild in on operations throughout the Northeast of Elanthia in exchange for backing him up against Amoke's gang for Mipiun and the other head Swalafat members. "

Ktaaki works her fingers under her gold dragonfly comb and scratches her head.

Ekasha raises an eyebrow.

Kree says, "For this was a delicate game of politics and dealings. A simple war is often easy to follow, as one side kills the other or suffers their fate...But such is not the way of the underworld..."

Dellenne rubs her chin thoughtfully.

Naydia nods to Kree.

Ekasha smiles.

Ktaaki cocks her head at Kree.

Kree says, "The Rogue's Guild met to discuss the matter, and came up with a solution they thought would put an end to this gang war. The Rogue's Guild leader and his top assassin would agree to represent the Guild for Ibin. They would go with him to the secret meeting. But unknown to Ibin, 30 armed members would be invisable, tracking him into the complex where they planned to ambush Amoke, Ibin, and the high ranking Swalafat as well, taking the whole bunch in one foul swoop and descending upon their bounty."

Ashemu raises an eyebrow.

Dellenne shivers.

Brookwyn blinks.

Corrig chuckles.

Ekasha raises an eyebrow.

Ktaaki gasps.

Zimmeron sighs.

Ktaaki exclaims, "Audacious!"

Kree says, "This is the manner of underworld dealings dear friends...For a rogue's way is in the back, and those who do it best live to to reap the profits."

Ekasha turns towards Kree and renders a hand salute.

Kree says, "So the stage was set....Ibin was contacted, overjoyed to hear the Guildmaster himself would represent him at the meeting. Completely unknown to him was the fact that the Guild Members would be there as well, ready to dispatch their hated enemies in one devision assassination."

(Ekasha nods slowly.)

Kree says, "Think of it dear friends, 30 rogues, brothers in arms preparing for the biggest hit ever to grace the walls of Wenhimer's Landing. Outifitting was tense that morning, weapons and equipment checked and re checked..."

(Ekasha nods again)

Ashemu grins.

Kree says, "At last it was time, And with all smiles the Guildmaster and his trusted Assassin met Ibin with his wry smile and started off for the secret meeting..."

You lean forward.

Kree says, "They headed east, down past the temple and through the commerce district. They walked past the old bank that is only rubble now, and over the bridge into the east side of town..."

Starwind leans forward.

Kree says, "30 rogues stalked silently behind them, keeping a light pace behind so as not to be detected."

Corrig chuckles.

Rther giggles.

You say, "incredible."

Naydia grins.

Zimmeron asks, "was Ibin nicknamed the Godfather of Rogues?"

Kree says, "Once the rogues knew where the meeting was to be held, they would hit the building from all sides, and put blades in Swalafat's backs once and for all...."

Ktaaki says, "Astonishing."

Zimmeron rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Zimmeron grins.

Kree says, "And so they came to stand, outside an old warehouse just east of the bridge in the center of the Landing. Ibin gave a last look over his shoulder at the Guildmaster and his man, nodded and led them in..."

Kree surveys the area.

Kree smiles slightly...

Ekasha smiles slowly

Kree says, "No sooner had the two Rogue's stepped inside then the door came crashing down, and large bars fell over the iron holdings by magic, locking into place. Instantly there were shouts and banging outside, as the Rogue's howled in frustration as the full realization of their double crossing became apparent....The Guildmaster, the center of the Rogue's Guild and his top assassin stood there, taking in the scene..."

Naydia blinks.

Ktaaki gasps.

Brookwyn exclaims, "oh!"

Zephina furrows her brow.

Kerl mutters under his breath.

Zsaru exclaims, "Ha! Brilliant!"

Kree says, "There was Amoke, sitting casually with his large bastard sword at his side....5 of his trusted men at his side....A dark figure suddenlly appeared, a mage it seemed, for Swalafat were true professions who employed all the arts to their benefit...."

Naydia glances at Shirkon.

Marlkon rubs Naydia gently.

Marlkon cuddles up with Naydia.

Kree says, "A few others, Ibin's men it seemed also leaned forward out of the shadows..and all was tense for a moment..."

Grogg shivers.

Ekasha seems to be waiting for something.

Brookwyn wrings her hands.

Starsnuffer smiles.

Kree says, "The Guildmaster lookd around, unsure who the first target would be. Would Amoke take out Ibin and his men first, or gun for the outsiders who might prove more a problem being the lesser known enemy. But then he realized Ibin was grinning in that same easy manner he had when he first walked into the secret meeting a few weeks earliar.....And then it all became clear....the whole thing, the split in Swalafat, it was all a set up for this, for the assassination of the Wenhimer's Landing Guildmaster. That would bring the guild to its knees, allowing Swalafat to finish this war and move in once and for all..."

Zephina blinks.

Naydia nods.

Grogg nods.

Ktaaki says, "ohhhh....."

Kree says, "In one swing, the arm of the Guildmaster went flying, as Amoke's blade cut deep and true. A ring of steel echo'd over the beating of the Rogue's fists on the door outside, and the Guildmaster fell back against the wall stunned. 6 blades took to the brave assassin, the top man chosen for the post. He fell quickly, death coming over him as silently as he wieleded it."

Gyuin grins.

You feel the blood drain from your face.

A pained expression crosses Ekasha's face.

Kree says, "All eyes turned back to the Guild Master, who lay panting against the wall, clutching his severed arm..."

Kree says, "And to their surprise, he fell back, farther and farther into the shadows from the deep rafters of the open warehouse....Blending into the shadows is an art not all possess, but for the Guildmaster, it was with each step that he walked back and forth form their depths. The Swalafat members jumped at the spot he had just been in, finding nothing but the dark blood of his wound. They searched everywhere, running and screaming around the warehouse, seeking the Guildmaster frantically. They knew there was no exit, for they had made every sure that all openings were magically sealed by the mage, Morrison's spells."

Ekasha smiles.

Ktaaki exclaims, "Oh my goodness!"

They moved slowly through the shadowy warehouse, the Mage in front casting dark waves of essence to try to catch the rogue and spring him loose. At last they found him, and set upon again with screams of hatred and rage. But the Guildmaster evaded them, dancing in and out of the shadows..."

You wink at Starwind.

Kree says, "Meanwhile, the banging became more and more servere outside, and by now the commotion and spread, and many townsfolk had gathered to see what the problem was. All that was known was that a battle ensued inside, and for most that meant they simply must enter and join the frey. Mages set to work on the locks, hoping to dispell Morrison's magic and break the seals."

Ktaaki exclaims, "Oh, yay for the town!"

At last with a crack, the door exploded from its hinges, and townsfolk and Rogue's alike rushed into the warehouse. Rings of steel were instantly audible, as Swalafat all of a sudden were fighting for their lives."

But in most townships and even here once there was an organized guild of rogue's who ran the city from underneath. They performed all kinds of services, some less friendly then others."

Kree says, "But they made for uniform codes among the law breakers within their city's walls. This is the underworld."

Kree says, "This is what Swalafat controlled in many cities, what they wanted to control here."

Chronoglass nods to Kree.

Kree says, "Power is not always who sits on the throne."

Kree smiles.
