<section begin=description />Study of anatomy reveals the importance of bone structure. By utilizing this knowledge and the perceived state of need from such a mechanism for a number of living beings, [[empath]]s manipulate the bones in their target causing them to instantly, and painfully, shatter.<section end=description /> Training in [[Mental Lore, Manipulation]] provides for a chance to completely abolish the target's bone structure, resulting in instant death.

Less experienced targets have a more difficult time resisting this spell.  There is a [[TD]] pushdown for lower-level empaths.  For each level under 35, the creature receives a -1 point penalty to their normal Spiritual TD.

Bone Shatter will only work on targets that have bones. This includes the corporeal [[undead]]. For [[non-corporeal]] undead, [[Phase (704)]] or [[Kai's Smite]] can cause them to "phase in," allowing them to be vulnerable to Bone Shatter. Most insects and elemental creatures are completely immune to the spell.

Bone Shatter can be [[CHANNEL (verb)|CHANNELed]] from more offensive [[stance]]s and with an empty hand(s) to increase damage.

Empaths training in the Trinkets subskill of [[Alchemy]] in the [[Empath Guild]] can make a [[slender ivory wand]] with 20 charges of the Bone Shatter spell in it.  The wand does still have the pushdown for low-level characters, but uses the cast version of the spell instead of the channel version.

== Lore Benefit ==
[[Mental Lore, Manipulation]] provides a chance for target's skeletal system to collapse, leading to instant death on a [[Summation chart|seed 1 summation]] of {{mono|((Mental Lore, Manipulation ranks - 10) / 2)}}. If the warding margin is less than 50, this chance is reduced by 2% of the base chance per each marginal point. For example, if the caster had a base 10% chance to kill the target, but the warding result was 140, the death chance would be reduced to 8% (losing 20% of base). With a warding result of 125, the chance would be reduced to 5%.
