==Synopsis==

[[Mother]] assembles the [[Brotherhood of Rooks|Rooks]] at [[Moot Hall]] and a crowd of townspeople comes to watch too as she says the freedom of [[Wehnimer's Landing]] is threatened and the Brotherhood sought to be prepared to respond to the rearing head of tyranny and to stand as the last bastion for Wehnimer's independence if needed. She says the [[Turamzzyrian Empire|Imperials]] won't be contained to the river and in time will turn their eyes further north to claim another port and then [[Icemule Trace]].

She asks who will stand for freedom and gives masks to those who join her. [[Tolmis]] also mentions that the Rooks saved his life and there's no reason not to stand with them to serve the better interests of the Landing.

[[Irval (prime)|Irval]] asks where the Rooks were during [[Gnul]]'s attack. [[Kelfyr (prime)|Kelfyr]], Councilor [[Kiyna (prime)|Kiyna]], Councilor [[Kayse (prime)|Kayse]], [[Leafiara (prime)|Leafiara]], [[Drektor (prime)|Drektor]], Councilor [[Pookia (prime)|Pookia]], and [[Chandrellia (prime)|Chandrellia]] point out the Rooks were there helping, but as Irval disregards all of them, the gathered townspeople are less diplomatic and start throwing stones at him until Mother gets them to stop. Tolmis reminds that he was there too.

Mother asks if everyone has wondered how the mountain alliance so quickly came together and says the Imperials have studied the Landing and brought [[Enisius|a man of magic]] who manipulates minds and eyes, then distracts everyone with a fancy scroll (the signup sheet to study [[Melgorehn's Reach]] and [[Darkstone Castle]]) and gives the Landing an enemy so it ignores that the Empire is also one. Tolmis says he was misled by promises of glory in service to the Empire, but his dreams became a nightmare under [[Bodohal|a terrible man]] who acted opposite of his duty to a throne that cares for one beneath it.

Mother says that when next we speak of the encroaching enemy, it will come with a warning that the Empire and its child Baron should not ignore. Councilor [[Vaemyr (prime)|Vaemyr]] cautions against violence as it will cause backlash, but Mother asks what could happen: the Imperials come even closer when they're already at the gates? Kayse says an attack will draw a counterattack and we'll pay for blood with blood, but Mother says we're already bleeding resources, people, and our very spirit by allowing in the rot for the sake of avoiding open bloodshed.

Leafi mentions atrocities committed by Prelate [[Chaston Griffin]], Adjudicator [[Vlashandra]], Grand Magister [[Dennet Kestrel]], Grand Magister [[Octaven]], and the Alchemist [[Praxopius Fortney]], then Mother says [[Elidal|the new Baron]] has seen the abuse this has allowed with Earl Jovery making no amends for Chaston, Dennet, Vlashandra, [[Rinhale]], [[Elithain Cross]], [[Grishom Stone]], [[Raznel]], [[Drangell]], [[Alright]], [[Nysorm]], [[Thanden]], [[Madelyne]], Praxopius, or [[Davard]]. She concludes by considering whether Earl Jovery is the head of the beast and we're fighting against limbs and hands when the head should roll, then leaves for the night as some of the crowd nod or whisper to her.



==Highlights==

 Emerging from the gathered shadows of an alleyway, a tall figure steps into view, wrapped in a billowing dark cloak and a deep hood that reveals a featureless black mask etched with blood red sigils.  Some gasp at the sight of the figure, while others seem to nod approvingly.  The figure slowly walks along the cobblestone roads, moving towards Moot Hall, as several townspeople step aside to give the figure wide berth.

 Speaking to Raelee, Pukk says, "Except you."

 Irval asks, "Is that what we want of the Rooks?"
 Irval asks, "If we disagree? They cast stones?"
 Speaking to Irval, Leafiara says, "That was the townspeople throwing stones at you. It seems your eyes are rather poor to judge."
 Irval says, "Who knows if it was townspeople or plants."
 Giogionni says, "It was definitely stones, not plants."

 Speaking suddenly to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Darn, I was so caught up in describing history that I forgot to get a mask while I had the chance."
 Tikba produces a smooth stone from the depths of her white flyrsilk toqua.
 Tikba offers Leafiara a smooth stone.
 Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I seriously can't believe you were not the first to get a mask."
 Speaking amusedly to Tikba, Leafiara says, "That's a smooth stone."

===Gathering in the Snow===

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing.  The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith.  At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree.  The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep.  You also see a sleek black-mantled hawk, the Ulfwine disk, the Elliathe disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl that is flying around, an inlaid leather grimoire soaring around with its gilt-swept ethereal violet pinions, a yellow-eyed silvery lor mandrake with glossy holly leaves sticking out of her head, the web-draped Missoni disk, a lazy wild blood red dog, a pretty flower girl, the Guarrin disk, the Rushr disk, the repousse copper Perigourd disk raised in leafy designs, the Phereclese disk, the Maleagant disk, the Akkakh disk, a large acorn, the Jyszull disk, the skull-shaped Irval disk, some wolifrew lichen, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Elliathe says, "Just when I thought the night would remain clear."

Speaking to Axhinde, Vaemyr says, "Just a bit of snow."

Irval says, "Weapons at the ready just in case."

Irval says, "The stillness gives me unease."

Irval says, "Read these stones from your experience guarding those who foretell and tell me if this looks like it says its our duty as a community to usher in new beginnings..."

Elliathe exclaims, "Oh goodness I still smell like Fyg's capcakes!"

Irval says, "Just saying, While I like to root most my findings and investigations of my ever ending search of skulls of differing varieties."

Elliathe says, "Makes one wonder what exactly they wait for...."

Irval says, "We tend to all revert back to herd mentality when the sense of danger...safety in numbers..."

Guarrin says, "Let us hope they remain peaceful."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Kayse teases, "Maybe you will get another arrow in your neck?"

Drazaa whispers something to Kayse.

Speaking to Kayse, Vaemyr says, "Perferably not..."

Irval whispers to the group, "I am considering that we might take heed to the Commanders Sablo's advice and try and be proactive and spring their attack early and hope to catch them off guard?"

Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions.  Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night.  You also see a pretty flower girl, the Kelfyr disk, a grizzled porcupine, a large purple wooden barrel, a blanket of snow, a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, a silver-inked ivory parchment nailed to a wall outside of Moot Hall and a dark green wreath with Imaera's lace hanging from the doors of Moot Hall.

Alosaka says, "That wasn't the flower girl."

Guarrin muses, "Perhaps they wish a few words with the Council."

Leafiara curiously says, "Hmm, I thought maybe she had... retired after her identity was exposed, but I guess not."

Furthermore we know that they have and always hated the Empire. Regardless of circumstance. We know that these consecutive attacks led the captain to become irrational and obviously enraged. This probably affected his sleep pattern and gave him some sort of mania. Now then we know the rooks are responsible for this but we dont know why. What we do know is it probably has something to do with Tolmis. This Manic captain then fired on the town killing people and sent his sailors to assault the civilian population at large. We also know that The earl and baron to be support Landing retaining its independence, While its not a guarantee , its what we got. We know that they are willing to help fight these forces arrayed against us and can count on as an ally. What am I missing besides the magical research ?"

Speaking to Bellaja, Vaemyr says, "Oh trust me, we have some shovels, but takes a while to dig through solid rock."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Bellaja says, "We will hope it is face value."

First of all, was it every person in the encampment or just some that were "shielded."  We know Rodnay felt it "familiar" so probably someone or something we've encountered in the past."

Irval says, "Bottom line is we need to assure the townspeople that we wont become the imps, Retain our indepedence, get a guarantee of that independence through strength of arms or defensive fortifications, Defeat the Mountain Alliance, Save settlers, Investigate the reach, Investigate the darkstone. And do it without our own people turning against us and stabbing us in the back."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr says, "Purely on speculation? I have high suspicions of Enisius, I have high suspicians of the Sylvan none of us have met.  But that is basically my "gut"."

Irval asks, "Did I miss anything?"

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "Why dont you round up a few rooks and allow them to infiltrate the settlement and get viable information, oh wait they probly already have, and just waiting for you to ask them abouit it."

Bellaja says, "But we need more decisive actions at a faster rate."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr asks, "Like the Rooks haven't already infiltrated the camp?"

Speaking to Vaemyr, Elliathe says, "Enisius is the one that concerns me foremost as well."

Bellaja says, "You're months behind in this game."

Vaemyr says, "They probably did that the during the second set of caravans."

Bellaja says, "If not a year."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "Thats my point! now trust them enough to do whats right and allow them to give that information when its the right time, trust as you said, can be a good thing."

Speaking to Elliathe, Tikba asks, "What concerns you about Magister Enisius?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr says, "I've trusted them enough so far to think they won't start murdering people, but as we all say.  Trust is earned, and they still have a long way to go as do the Imperials."

Irval says, "All I know is that lady had me stoned."

Speaking to Tikba, Elliathe says, "Part of it was the .. feel of him, just something in the pit of my gut, but beyond that? He is the one that seems to want to push action at delving into the arcane at both Darkstone and the Reach. That gives me pause. That is on his behest, from the way Elidal has spoken of it."

Speaking to Irval, Leafiara says, "She literally stopped them from stoning you..."

Tikba says, "It is easy to stop that which you start."

Irval asks, "After how many?"

Kelfyr says, "You accused her people of the exact opposite of their actions."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia asks, "So you place them, the Rooks that have defended this town time and time again to the Imperials that have done nothing to aid us thus far with anything that has happened?"

Irval says, "I accused her of not bleeding outside the gates with the rest of us yes."

Speaking to Irval, Leafiara asks, "Wait a minute... you think those various townspeople throwing rocks were all secretly Rooks? Or mostly?"

Kelfyr exclaims, "They bled inside the gates!"

Irval says, "I think that they were plants."

Irval says, "Yes."

Kelfyr exclaims, "Inside them!"

Tikba wryly says, "Mother is persuasive indeed, that she can inspire a man to be stoned, and inspire all the spectators to forget what took place."

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "You werent there when she went against AMos, she did bleed, a lot."

Irval says, "Why wouldnt they be plants, Knowing who she is."

Speaking to Irval, Leafiara says, "Okay, in that case you've got an entirely different problem you need to face--now you have reason to suspect that any particular person around you might be a Rook."

Speaking to Irval, Leafiara says, "How you deal with that in a satisfactory manner, I have no idea."

Tikba mildly says, "Well, not any particular person."

Tikba says, "Some particular people, perhaps."

Irval says, "Its not that, But dramatics are kinda of signature move of the Rooks."

Speaking to Irval, Bellaja says, "The Empire already admitted to walking among the townspeople gathering information for months."

Bellaja says, "No different."

Speaking to Tikba, Chandrellia says, "Well you could be a really good actor and just be pretending."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr says, "Honestly? No, not really.  The rook's actions don't make a ton of sense.  They could accomplish the same thing as an official organization similar to what Amos has done with his Red Watch.  Recruit, do their same activities, defend the town, defend freedoms."

Irval says, "You can't discount it. Because Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr says, "But there's more to them than just what they say, and that is what I don't trust."

Leafiara says, "The Red Watch seems to operate within the same boundaries as the militia. For now, at least."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "There is more to me then what I say, does that mean I shouldntbe trusted? or Leafi, or anyone for that matter, every single person is more then what they say, yet we all trust each other to defend this town when its needed and dont blink about it."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "They escort carvans and other shipments as well, well beyond these walls."

Speaking skeptically to Chandrellia, Raelee asks, "All?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Tikba says, "On that we agree."

Chandrellia says, "Ok you are an exception, you are just as you say, scary."

Tikba says, "I must go."

Chandrellia says, "I'm just saying, that not everyone shows their entire hand to everyone else."

Irval says, "Appreciate you taking a stone or two for me."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Vaemyr says, "Well, let me turn that back on you, I don't think you nor Leafi trust me?  Even though I'm only speaking honestly with both of you.  Have bled over and over for this town.  Heck made great personal sacrifice to get rid of a certain blood tower, that I'll have to probably still suffer future consequences for."

Speaking to Tikba, Bellaja says, "Do go safely."

Raelee says, "What truly concerns me the most about the development of Darkstone is that now, my biannual requests for a transfer are even less likely to be accepted."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "If it makes you feel any better, I've shown my entire hand numerous times and people don't trust me either."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "As mayor a few times."

Raelee says, "... good evening.  I am retreating to the Outpost."

Chandrellia says, "Good eve Magister."

Speaking to Raelee, Vaemyr says, "Good evening Raelee."

Elliathe says, "Good eve."

Irval says, "Im gonna go thin the herd...minotaurs."

Irval says, "Get it."

Chandrellia says, "I'll watch for you."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I more or less implied this last time we spoke, but it's not even you I distrust. I just think you lend too much of your ear to others and let them guide your actions, so you end up lost in the process."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I could be wrong, of course."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I might just be remembering things I did, since we think alike, and assuming you're being the same."

Irval says, "I'll be around on the net if anyone wants to discuss these happenings further."

Speaking to Irval, Chandrellia says, "Oh once I step away from here, I'm done."

Elliathe says, "I think I shall return to the North myself."

Leafiara confesses, "I regret every time I listened to others' judgment instead of mine."

Leafiara says, "Every single time. I actually made a list of them once."

Irval asks, "Long list?"

Irval says, "Would like to read it sometime."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Me on the other, dont tend to listen enough and that also gets me in trouble."

Leafiara says, "Conversely, when I listened to my own judgment instead of others', I regretted it only once."

Irval exclaims, "Ok off to the Minos!"

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "All I'm gonna say is this, I respect you, you stand by what you say and I do beleave you care for this town as much as any of us."

Leafiara says, "Maybe I'd better go before I get mired in self-pity."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Maybe I'll have to just start making my own judgements sometimes."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "With that being said, keep following your heart, regardless of what I or anyone elkse thinks."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "You're not my enemy, for the record."

Chandrellia says, "You should."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "Just don't denounce people over the Tyrrax decision again.."

Kelfyr says, "The town won't burn tonight. Tomorrow, however, is another story."

Speaking quickly to Vaemyr, Leafiara adds, "Kidding, kidding."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I know you mean well. We always do."

Vaemyr says, "Like Mother said, even if I end up fighting the Rooks, as i would if I think they would truly cause harm to the town, I don't think they are our enemy."

Leafiara says, "I haven't even spoken up at many meetings lately. Would rather just eat popcorn in the back because it'll end up the same either way."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "Oh I just know that'll come back to bite us, I still agree with the decision at the time."

Leafiara says, "Try our best, things go horribly wrong."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "You and  teh others have a lot on your plate, I am not envious of you being in my office."

Leafiara says, "Every time."

Leafiara says, "I literally ran on a slogan of 'embrace the chaos' and then somehow spent two years forgetting how to do it."

Chandrellia says, "Ok I am off to get spells, I wish you all a Merry Eve."

Leafiara says, "But now I'm back on it."

Vaemyr says, "But darn it I swear, if the town comes out of this with stone walls at the end of all of it?  Our council is gonna be heroes."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Chandrellia says, "I hope the best, but fear the worst."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "I hope it works, I really do."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Bellaja says, "Not if they surround dead bodies."

Leafiara says, "History has taught me otherwise."

Speaking to Bellaja, Vaemyr exclaims, "Depends which bodies!"

Speaking to Vaemyr, Bellaja says, "Indeed."

Vaemyr says, "Alright I think my dark humor is getting to me, I should sleep."

Vaemyr says, "Night all."

Leafiara says, "Time to head off indeed."

Speaking to a silver-inked ivory parchment nailed to a wall outside of Moot Hall, Leafiara says, "I really hope nobody other than Raelee, Lylia, and Xorus actually signs up for this thing..."
