==Summary==

* Darcena hears "A quiet, feminine whisper reaches your ear, almost washed out by the night breeze.  "-can hear this... must find out wha-... Nazh-...," then is lost completely."
* Khaell and Darcena have a conversation with the First Sergeant where he seems to forget that he had just said something with a notable demeanor change. He also claims he hasn't arrested anyone in a long time and doesn't know who Elspie is.
* Ilsola arrives and states she doesn't know what's going on and she hasn't been getting the reports she expects to get. She questions the First Sergeant about his role in Elspie's disappearance. The First Sergeant doesn't seem to remember Elspie coming to him to report the crimes against her and tells the sequence of events from a skewed perspective. "The First Sergeant cocks his head to one side, his gaze drifting to the horizon for a moment, then stands a bit straighter." He states he's drifting off.
* Adventurers fill in the gaps of what has happened from their perspectives. Duvainiel continues to claim that Elspie was trying to kill Nazhor. The First Sergeant continues to state he didn't arrest Elspie. Ilsola dismisses him. The First Sergeant states Ilsola can expect his resignation within the hour.
* Duvainiel states that Nazhor is her boss and she helps him in his shop.
* Darcena hears, "A whisper reaches your ear, tenuous on the night breeze, "They have put me here, believing it would contain my magic, but they are mistaken, at least for now.  I regret asking you this, for we are yet strangers, but someone must find out what Nazhor is up to.  Please, friend, find out his plan and stop him!"
* Ilsola and adventurers go to question Cendadric. Cendadric claims he doesn't know who Nazhor is, seems confused about the arrest, states he doesn't know who Elspie is, states "I would never sell my shop," then, "Cendadric blinks his eyes rapidly, cocking his head to one side, then opens them again with a wide smile." He then has a completely different demeanor.
* Ilsola summarizes the evening by telling adventurers that nothing can be done until they find Nazhor, that she will handle the changeover of the First Sergeant, that she will tell the town to watch for Nazhor and Elspie and contact her immediately if they're found, and that she would like everyone else to search and let her know.

You ask, "Do we know where Elspie is locked up?"
Khaell says, "I don't think so."
The voice of Khobra says, "In building two blocks eazt."
You ask, "Take me there?"
You peer quizzically at Khaell.
Khaell nods.

The entry area of the law of the Isle of the Four Winds has the desk of the First Sergeant pushed against the wall.  A pile of ropes and shackles spills out of an overflowing barrel near the exit, and several tripods of spears flank either side of the iron-barred door to the jail.  You also see an iron-barred door and a ruined heavy iron bars.

You ask, "Loud enough?"
You mutter something inaudible.
You cover your ears.
Khaell rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Khaell says, "Gonna check something out....."
Khaell asks, "Want to come with?"
Khaell peers quizzically at you.
You say, "Yes."
Khaell says, "I take silence as agreement."
Khaell grins and chuckles.

[Mist Harbor Lockup, Hallway]
A whipping post constructed of aged oak is affixed to the far wall with shackles hanging from the top.  Carelessly looped over the post is a cruelly-barbed leather whip.  A pair of torches belch smoke which lazily drifts out the barred window.  You also see a bolted oak door and a vine-bound bamboo door.

The First Sergeant scowls.
The First Sergeant asks, "What are you two up to?"
You say, "Looking for Elspie."

You ask, "Where'd you put her?"
The First Sergeant says, "You don't have any business here."
You scowl at the First Sergeant.
You say, "I didn't realize it was closed to the public."
You lean back.
The First Sergeant mutters.
You glance at your saramar-enruned armband and fold your arms over your chest.
You ask, "Where'd you put Elspie?"
Khaell says, "Can't be so hard to look for the welfare of one, even if incarcerated."
The First Sergeant says, "You're poking your nose in things that don't concern you.  That's a dangerous habit."
You burst out in loud, raucous laughter at the First Sergeant.
Khaell ponders.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, you croon, "Congratulations, now you've met me."
Speaking to the First Sergeant, you say, "Lady Darcena Wolf-Valslayer, the Harbinger, the Ishan, the Butcher. The poker-of-noses-into-business-that-doesn't-concern-her."
You smirk at the First Sergeant!
The First Sergeant squints his eyes and cocks his head to one side for a long moment, then blinks and settles into a more relaxed posture.
You say, "This one isn't going to tell us anything, Khaell."
The First Sergeant asks, "Can I help you folks find anything?"
You glance at the First Sergeant.
The First Sergeant grins.
You growl ferociously at the First Sergeant!
Khaell nods.
Khaell says, "Where's Elspie."
The First Sergeant blinks in surprise.
The First Sergeant says, "Just trying to help..."
The First Sergeant asks, "Who's Elspie?"
You exclaim, "You arrested her!"
The First Sergeant scratches his head in confusion.

Years of military training have left the body of the First Sergeant with a chiseled build and a lean frame.  He wears a sun-faded uniform complete with highly polished leather boots and carries a swagger stick under one arm.  His eyes roam back and forth as he looks around for any sign of wrongdoing, or he might just be looking for an excuse to schedule an inspection for errant dust.

The First Sergeant says, "Oh, I don't think that's right.  I haven't arrested anyone in..."
The First Sergeant chuckles to himself.
The First Sergeant says, "Quite some time."
You stare at the First Sergeant.
Speaking to you, Khaell asks, "Did you see that earlier?"
You glance at Khaell.
You nod.
Khaell frowns.
Khaell moves a little closer to the First Sergeant, closely watching every movement.
You ask, "Are you... missing any blocks of time?"
You peer quizzically at the First Sergeant.
The First Sergeant says, "Now, I hear tell there's a meeting going on.  I'm supposed to be there, and you might want to attend too!  Ilsola's fired up about something or other."
The First Sergeant chuckles.
You sigh loudly.
You nod to the First Sergeant.
You give a sidelong glance at Khaell.
Khaell nods to you.
The First Sergeant says, "You folks have a good night."
You bite your lip.
Khaell says, "Something......"
The First Sergeant just went south.
You say, "Something is up."
Khaell nods.

The First Sergeant stretches languidly and leans against a nearby wall, closing his eyes.

You mutter early.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Khaell asks, "Don't rembember locking her up eh?"
Khaell begins to twitch.
Khaell searches around for a moment.
Khaell nods.
Khaell glances at the First Sergeant.
The First Sergeant yawns and smacks his lips loudly, his eyes remaining firmly closed.
Khaell frowns.
Sothog rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Khaell asks, "Ignoring me?"
Sothog removes a vultite-shod mossbark runestaff from in his serpent skin harness.
You whisper aloud, "Napping."
Sothog leans leisurely on his mossbark runestaff, a thoughtful expression upon his face.
You nod to Sothog in greeting.
Sothog nods to you in greeting.
You darkly mutter, "Better let sleeping... sergeants... lie. Or he might be locking you up, too."
Khaell says, "Oh he's not sleeping."
Ilsola wanders in.
Ilsola smiles.
Sothog and Khaell nod to Ilsola in greeting.
You glance at Ilsola.
Khobra nods respectfully at Ilsola.
Sothog nods to Khobra in greeting.
Ilsola says, "Good evening, all."
Khobra nods politely at Sothog.
Sothog says, "Evening, everyone."
Sothog smiles.
You cautiously say, "Good evening."
Ilsola nods to the First Sergeant.
Speaking to Ilsola, you ask, "And who are you?"
Khobra nods slowly at Khaell.
The First Sergeant blinks rapidly and glances at Ilsola.
The First Sergeant grins.
Nodyre nods slowly.
You nod to Nodyre in greeting.
Nodyre nods to you in greeting.
Speaking to you, Ilsola says, "I'm the Town Administrator for Mist Harbor.  What passes for a Mayor, at least according to the five families."
Nodyre says, "We all meet again."
Nodyre laughs softly, trying to hide his amusement.
Speaking to Ilsola, you ask, "Bit young for it, aren't you?"
You peer quizzically at Ilsola.
Ilsola chuckles.
Khaell frowns.
Speaking to you, Ilsola says, "I'm fortunate that there isn't much that needs doing aside from making sure the trade keeps coming in."
You smile at Ilsola.
You slowly say, "Until now."
Ilsola gives a short sigh, and nods.
Sothog says, "Careful.  Someone who starts this kind of profession at a young age just means they have a head start."
Sothog grins at you.
You chuckle at Sothog.
Ilsola says, "Well, yes.  There does appear to be something..."
You say, "A murder. An assault. An arrest."
You say, "A theft."
You say, "An ransacking."
(Darcena ticks off each point on her fingers.)
Sothog agrees with you.
Ilsola nods understandingly.
You say, "I'm not the best at counting, but that appears to be several somethings."
Khaell agrees with you.
You scratch your arm.  That feels better.
Ilsola leans in close and whispers with the Sergeant.
Ilsola blinks at the First Sergeant.
You give your eyebrow a little workout.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Ilsola says, "That's not acceptable, Sergeant."
Nodyre raises an eyebrow.
Khaell glances at the First Sergeant.
Khobra glances between Ilsola and the First Sergeant.
The First Sergeant says, "I just thought-"
Ilsola shakes her head.
You glance between Ilsola and the First Sergeant.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Ilsola says, "Hold your words.  We'll get to that."
Sothog rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Ilsola mutters under her breath.
The First Sergeant nods agreeably.
Ilsola sighs.
You urgently ask, "Where is Elspie?"
Nodyre asks, "Good help is hard to find....eh?"
Nodyre whistles tunelessly to himself.
Nodyre cowers away from the First Sergeant.
Selema nods to you.
You cock your head.
Selema asks, "It's been several days, can anyone vouch for her condition?"
You say, "I heard something earlier that may have been her voice."
You frown at Ilsola.
Khobra agrees with Selema.
Ilsola says, "Very well.  The point of this is to ascertain what, exactly has happened to this point, then figure out what, if anything, needs to be done going forward."
Nodyre nods at Ilsola.
Selema turns to face Ilsola.
Selema nods faintly.
You tap your foot impatiently.
Selema reaches over and gently rests her hand on your shoulder.
You say, "You don't seem to have much urgency. Nor does anyone seem to be telling me where the woman is."
You growl ferociously!
Sothog nods at Ilsola.
Khaell says, "What happened is the sergeant locked up Elspie, but wouldn't invenstigate a ransacking."

Sothog says, "It would be good to ascertain the status of the imprisoned, yes."
The voice of Duvainiel states, "Da Drake attacked 'n tried ta moider da boss."
Sothog agrees with you.
Nodyre chuckles.
You make a horrendous warthog-like noise.
The First Sergeant clears his throat.
Nodyre gazes up into the heavens.
Khobra searches around for a moment.
Sothog nods to Nodyre in greeting.
Nodyre nods to Sothog in greeting.
Khobra smirks.
Khaell begins to twitch.
Sothog says, "Ah, the minion arrives."
Duvainiel leans against a large woven grass hall.
Appearing lost in the commotion around him, Nodyre's eyes slowly begin to cross as he stares off into the distance.  Abruptly, Nodyre shakes his head, and his eyes focus forward.
You mutter, "Maybe shouldn't be trusting the sergeant."
Selema says, "Duvainiel, at least come out and show your face as you lie."
Duvainiel folds her arms over her chest with an air of superiority.
Khobra places her hands on both the longsword and longsword hanging from her hip-slung swordbelt, and drums her fingers.  She surveys the area with a hint of malice in her eyes.
You glance at Duvainiel.
Duvainiel smarmily says, "I ain' na minion."
Khobra turns an inquisitive ear toward Ilsola.
The First Sergeant says, "What happened was, I witnessed an argument between Duvainiel and Elspie.  Elspie became... um... really angry."
You roll your eyes.
Nodyre says, "True enough."
Sothog says, "Duv Pawn, then, if you prefer."
The First Sergeant says, "And then she charged off to attack Nazhor, for no reason I could see."
The First Sergeant scratches his head in confusion.
Nodyre says, "Attack might be a bit strong..."
Duvainiel spits, "Aye... she wudda killed 'im, too."
Nodyre says, "But otherwise correct."
Speaking to Duvainiel, Khaell says, "Highly unlikely."
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Selema interjects, "Do you not recall Elspie reporting the crime at her cabin to you?"
Selema glances at the First Sergeant and folds her arms over her chest.
The First Sergeant says, "Then she did just that.  She charged right at him, tried to kill him.  So I did what I'm s'posed to, and arrested her."
Speaking to the First Sergeant, you say, "While you were ignoring that Elspie came to you in the first place to report a crime."
Nodyre gazes up into the heavens.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Khobra challenges, "Did you not vitnezz, thiz vne provoke her."
Khobra points at Duvainiel.
The First Sergeant cocks his head to one side, his gaze drifting to the horizon for a moment, then stands a bit straighter.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, you say, "Not to mention that you don't even seem to be investigating the murder."
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Duvainiel says, "Ya fergettin' dat she almos' woulda come fer me, ta."
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Khobra remarks, "One many accountz?"
Nodyre rolls his eyes.
The First Sergeant says, "I did my job.  This 'Elspie' attacked a shopowner with no provocation.  And I handled it."
The First Sergeant nods firmly.
Speaking suspiciously to the First Sergeant, you ask, "What are you hearing on the wind, First Sergeant?"
Ilsola blinks at the First Sergeant.
Nodyre shakes his head.
Speaking to herself, Maylan says, "It seems I have stumbled upon something rather interesting."
Maylan wiggles her eyebrows.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Nodyre says, "You could have exercised a bit more discretion."
Sothog glances around the area.
You nod curtly at Maylan.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Ilsola asks, "Sergeant, that... are you feeling well?  This is very unlike you?"
Sothog says, "Interesting."
Maylan waves to you.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Selema exclaims, "I believe, sir, that you were clearly not paying attention.  Elspie reported a crime to you which you failed to investigate, and then there absolutely was provocation!"
Khaell says, "She was well provoked, mocking the ransacking of her house, and the death of her husband."
Speaking to Maylan, Duvainiel says, "Aye... attempted moider investigatin'."
The First Sergeant blinks his eyes rapidly and shakes his head.
Sothog leans leisurely on his mossbark runestaff, a thoughtful expression upon his face.
The First Sergeant says, "I'm sorry... drifted off there for a second."
The First Sergeant blushes furiously.
Speaking to Duvainiel, Maylan exclaims, "Oh, how intresting!"
Yakushi stares off into space.
Roblar gazes in amazement at his surroundings.
Roblar mutters law.
Ilsola stares at the First Sergeant.
Speaking to Ilsola, Selema says, "Your Sergeant isn't worth the mud on his boots."
Nodyre grins at Roblar.
Selema scoffs.
Roblar smiles at Sothog.
Speaking to Ilsola, you say, "This is the third time I've seen him change demeanor rapidly."
Yakushi hangs his head.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Ilsola says, "We... will discuss this later, Sergeant."
Speaking to Ilsola, you say, "I think he's under the influence of something."
Ilsola sighs.
You say, "Or... someone."
Maylan squints at the First Sergeant.
Selema nods slowly to you.
Speaking to you, Sothog says, "Possibly."
Khaell agrees with you.
Selema says, "Darcena may have a point."

Ilsola rubs her temple with a finger, fending off an impending headache.
Speaking to Ilsola, Nodyre says, "I'd be happy to give my recollection if you like."
You give a sidelong glance at Duvainiel.
Selema turns to face Nodyre.
Speaking to Nodyre, Ilsola says, "Please do, if you would."
Duvainiel glances at you and slowly draws her finger across her throat meaningfully.
Duvainiel flashes a quick grin.
Looking at Duvainiel, you hold your sides and let out a rumbling belly laugh.
You draw the vultite butcher knife from one of the slots on your slate battle harness.
You lick the vultite butcher knife in your hand.
You quietly whisper to Duvainiel, "Try it, love."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
Speaking to Duvainiel, Selema asks, "Funny that you were the first here to mention the necklace.  Something on your mind?"
Speaking to Ilsola, Nodyre says, "Quite simply, a grief-stricken woman was overcome by her emotional state."
Selema glances suspiciously at Duvainiel.
Ilsola nods understandingly at Nodyre.
Speaking to Ilsola, Nodyre says, "And the sergeant, instead of using discretion, decided to have her arrested."
Speaking to Nodyre, Ilsola asks, "This is 'Elspie', I take it?"
Speaking to Duvainiel, Khaell says, "Your the one who pointed her to the pawnshop..."
Nodyre says, "Indeed."
Khobra agrees with Nodyre.
Selema nods firmly at Nodyre.
Duvainiel says, "Ya keep bringin' up da "crime" ya say was commited by da boss."
Duvainiel shrugs at Selema.
Ilsola asks, "And where is 'Elspie' now?"
Khobra glances at the First Sergeant.
Speaking to Ilsola, Nodyre says, "That's a question of great interest to us all."
You say, "I asked the sergeant earlier."
Selema nods in agreement at Nodyre.
You say, "He said he hadn't arrested anyone in a very long time."
You glance at the First Sergeant.
Khaell nods to you.
Speaking to the First Sergeant, Ilsola asks, "Sergeant?  What do you know of this Elspie?"
You say, "When we all witnessed him do it."
Speaking to you, Duvainiel says, "Das not a knife... dis is a knife."
Duvainiel removes a sinuous black ora falchion from in her brown leather cloak.
Duvainiel tilts her black ora falchion side to side, making the light play off it.
Maylan says, "Perhaps she is lost on a paddle boat in the middle of the waterways."
The First Sergeant blnks in confusion.

Reaching over your shoulder, you draw your fused vertebral staff from a series of straps on the back of your slate battle harness.
Speaking to Ilsola, Nodyre says, "But the fact of the matter is that Elspie did violate the peace of Mist Harbor, but it did not rise to the occassion of an actual crime."
You sheathe the vultite butcher knife into one of the slots on your slate battle harness.
The First Sergeant exclaims, "I haven't had to arrest anyone in a long time, Ilsola.  It's been awful quiet!"
You point at Duvainiel, and a forlorn shade rises of out the sphere wedged into your fused vertebral staff.  It surges towards her and slams into her chest with enough force for it to instantly dissipate.
Khobra narrows her eyes.
Speaking adamantly to the First Sergeant, you say, "We watched you."
Khaell says, "Oh you locked up Elspie alright."
Speaking to Ilsola, Nodyre says, "I'd consider investigating the Sergeant, to be honest, as there was a deriliction of duty on two occassions."
Speaking slyly to you, Duvainiel says, "Oi... d'it again..."
The First Sergeant shakes his head firmly.
Khaell says, "And when we went to find her, she was no where to be found."
Selema says, "If the Sergeant knows nothing of the arrest then I am further concerned for Elspie's safety."
Khobra agrees with Selema.
The First Sergeant says, "If she was locked up, she'd be in the holding area, and she's not.  I was there earlier for... some reason."
The First Sergeant scratches his head in confusion.

On the wall behind the desk is a large portrait of an elven woman, the colors bright despite its evident age.  A large silver chandelier hangs overhead, its myriad of candles lighting the room, while a carved rosewood arch leads farther into the shop.  You also see an old barrel, Cendadric and a glass-centered door.

Ilsola says, "In the meantime, I would be very grateful if you could all search, as well.  It would appear that the Sergeant and Cendadric, at least, are at times more aware of what's going on than others."

Speaking vaguely to Selema, Duvainiel says, "I gotta powder ma nose... mebbe get a warm bath."
Duvainiel just entered a glass-centered door.
Roblar deeply says, "Iz a waste of time to wait."
Nodyre chuckles.
Sothog says, "Duvainiel, you do that."
Selema glances at a glass-centered door.
Selema sighs.
Sothog grins.
Khobra leans over and whispers, "Khaell had zomethi-"
Yakushi grins.
Maylan says, "And in the meantime, I would bet my left boot that she's on some tiny island out there, a paddle boat ride away."
Khobra surveys her surroundings carefully.
Roblar deeply says, "She may be dead alreadies."
With a sudden cross-body motion, Khobra draws both the longsword and the longsword from her swordbelt.
Khaell says, "Don't make the water to warm..."
Khobra moves into a defensive stance, ready to fend off an attack.
Speaking to Maylan, Nodyre says, "Sounds like a fun trip."
Khobra squints.
You peer quizzically at Khobra.
Khaell says, "I hear it can burn..."
Maylan says, "And it matters not that I don't own any left boots."
Maylan thumps her mop-fringed pegleg on the floor in three rapid successions.
Sothog says, "Destined for the end of a rope, if I'm any judge of things."
Nodyre nods.
Khobra seriously says, "NO truzt her."
Nodyre takes a gallant bow, tipping his bycocket slightly, before sweeping it behind his back.  After a moment's pause he rises and places his bycocket firmly on his head, adjusting it to fit.
Roblar deeply says, "Husband killed, home ransacked, kidnapped."
Khobra says, "Nem- Nemzi - vhatever vord iz."
Roblar deeply says, "Likely reason to take her if she iz needed for whatever was taken from da safe."
Khaell says, "Still have yet to investigate the murder or the house even."
You nod at Khobra.
Roblar deeply says, "Or to kill or torture."
You ask, "Enemy?"
Sothog says, "The puppets dance at the puppeteer's whim.  But we'll cut those strings yet."
Speaking to Khaell, Khobra says, "And the Izlandz."
Sothog grins at Roblar.
Selema loses her intense expression.

Your vision clouds over, and a grinning visage slowly appears, all but its smile cloaked in shadow.  The grin splits into deep laughter, then fades away as your eyesight clears once more.

Khaell nods.
You growl ferociously!
Selema blinks.
You notice a vein pulsing in Roblar's forehead.
Selema blinks.
Sothog begins to twitch.
Selema growls ferociously!
Khobra says, "He vaz interezted in the Cabin location."
Khaell yells, "Your not gettin away with this...."
Khobra casually observes her surroundings.
You nod.
Khobra rubs her yellow-green eyes.
Sothog says, "Khobra, agreed.  Perhaps a second look around would be in order."
You nod fervently!
Selema says, "I'm afraid I must go, but do alert me if you find anything, please."
Selema says, "I'll be on the amulet."
Momentarily revealing the small leather ankle sheath hidden at his ankle, Roblar deftly sheathes his alloy hunting knife, concealing both it and the sheath once more.
Selema bobs down and back up in a quick curtsy.
Khobra says, "Zorry for talking much. Had to keep HEr buzy.. zo you all had the Town Adminz attention."
Roblar deeply says, "An da other ran off."
Roblar mumbles something under his breath.
You nod at Khobra.
Speaking to Khobra, you say, "Thank you."
Sothog says, "As must I, but I'll have to take another look around soon."
Speaking to Khobra, you say, "I noticed your efforts."
Sothog says, "Excuse me."
Sothog bows.
Selema just entered a glass-centered door.
Roblar nods.
Sothog just left.
Roblar deeply says, "Shall look abouts some."
Roblar waves.
You glance suspiciously at Cendadric.
