Headline: Shockwaves After the News from the Argentate
Where to begin, loyal readers! I'm sure the news of the Argent Mirror's abdication won't come as a surprise to anyone by now, as the Peacock Grapevine has been hard at work, but the Gazette would be remiss if it didn't add its own perspective to the shocking revelations in Court last Restday afternoon.
Notable members of elven society and beyond gathered in the Argentate to listen to the formal announcements and petitions. From the outset, attention was mostly on the outfits of those in attendance - especially in light of Lord Clessar Ryvvuel's recent insights into the latest trends - and the mood of Lord Lithavir. The Living Canvas seemed somewhat disgruntled by the absence of Mistress - or should one say, Princess - Leisette. Dressed in the current Ta'Loenthran preference for icy whites and cool greys, his choice of attire matched his demeanour and commentary, which drew several pointed glances from those around him.
Bedecked in the traditional colours of House Illistim, Lady Sayilla Javilerre looked suitably regal. Coincidence? Unlikely! There can also be no doubt that the velvet-crafted flora in her hair was a nod to the stylings of Nalfein courtiers but whether it was an unspoken affirmation of the political alliance with Ta'Nalfein and the formal agreements that make up the Kasendra Accords, time will tell! Her entrance was quickly followed by the Lord Commander of the Sapphire Guard, who took his place alongside his niece and there was no hint of the announcement to follow in his usual stony expression. One assumes he knew in advance and had hopefully been consulted. One thing we can be sure of though: guarding the Argent Mirror will have an extra nuance to it from now on!
So, to the heart of the matter: the abdication! Looking glorious in her blue and green ensemble, the reigning Argent Mirror certainly made a statement with her arrival but, even behind the wall of attendants and guards, it was clear Her Illumination was troubled. And no wonder, given the events of the past year and the difficulties she has had to endure. In the absence of Lady Ardtin Greyvael on the Council of Thrones, speculation is rife about whether Myasara came to that fateful decision herself or if she was persuaded by others; we will likely never know! But with no petitions to delay the inevitable, it was with shaking hands and a weary sigh that she delivered her announcement. The last few months have clearly taken their toll on our sovereign and the relief as she embraced her successor was evident.
One wonders what the history books will say of Myasara's reign but, for now, we look forward to a new chapter in the annals of House Illistim.
Headline: Still Missing!
The Argent Mirror began her last Court session by addressing the disappearances of Lady Ardtin Greyvael and Lord Gasen Nellereune. She assured her audience with quite some fervour that the full force of the city's power was being utilized in pursuit of the missing individuals. Investigations are apparently now in the hands of the Master Index - a force in their own right - and the Sapphire Guard, alongside the Order of the Sabrar Dragoons who are ordered to follow all leads and return them home forthwith. Let us hope that our next headline carries more positive news!
Headline: Every Day is Laundry Day in Ta'Illistim
A young freckled elven laundress going by the name of Esmine has been spotted wandering the Kaerinar Wey recently delivering both bolts of freshly laundered cloth and delicious tidbits of hearsay and gossip. It brings to mind an old imperial adage about airing one's dirty laundry in public but this time it is actually welcomed!
Headline: Court Circulars
The Seneschal, Lord Aeriadrn Ghaeriden, invites citizens and visitors to join him and Efald, the Walker of Lore, in the Sleeping Wood on the 16th day of Fashanos at 5 as the elves reckon time to admire a new mural.
