Cacographic Critters

[Cacographic Critters - 26889]
Rough-hewn planks form the walls of this cramped shed, and chilled drafts attest to the lack of skill in their assemblage into their current configuration. In sharp contrast to the shack and the questionable nature of its continued existence, a polished brass lantern rests atop a glass-fronted case that stands in the middle of the floor. Its glow illuminates the case, a small velvet-topped table to one side, and some free-standing shelves holding stacks of writing materials, each stack topped by a rock to keep the sheets off the floor.

- Welcome - Tired of writing with a lifeless stick? Bring your writing tasks to life with a Cacographic Critter! Check them out on the table! - The rachis is the center tube-part of a feather or quill. - The vane is the feathery part to either side of the rachis. ~~ Gubskut ~~

On the small velvet-topped table you see: a floriated zoetic quill with a tendriled rachis and pink vane, a red-eyed zoetic quill with a prehensile rachis and suede vane, a skeletal quill with a vertebral rachis and ribcage vane, a six-tentacled zoetic quill with a jade rachis and ebon vane, a six-limbed zoetic quill with a gold rachis and ahmdir vane, a six-legged zoetic quill with a copper rachis and ivory vane, a four-legged zoetic quill with a gold rachis and crimson vane and a two-armed zoetic quill with a silver rachis and grey vane.

Examine:
This zoetic quill is about the size of a swan feather quill that a professional scribe might use, however its tendriled rachis and pink vane, and the blue eyes at the juncture of nib and barrel, clearly set it apart. Other than the gnarled bark surrounding the two eyes, and the mithril nib that protrudes beneath them, this quill appears to have grown from a seed into its current scrivenery form. Several diminutive stalks and budding leaflets have sprouted along its barrel, but none would obstruct a calligrapher's natural grip.

Examine:
This zoetic quill is about the size of an owl feather quill that a professional scribe might use, however its prehensile rachis and suede vane, and the tiny eyes at the juncture of nib and barrel, clearly set it apart. The surface of the quill is covered in a fine grey fur reminiscent of moleskin, beginning just behind the eyes and covering the rest of the creature, both rachis and vane alike. And while the vane resembles nothing so much as a single layer of that velvety suede, the barrel of the rachis displays a series of subtle bumps consistent with a spine.

a skeletal quill with a vertebral rachis and ribcage vane Weight: <1 pound Zoetic Quill
examine
Examine:
This skeletal quill is about the size of a swan feather quill that a professional scribe might use, however its vertebral rachis and ribcage vane, and the empty eyesockets at the juncture of nib and barrel, clearly set it apart. Bleached to a uniform ivory hue, the delicate bones that make up this quill are completely devoid of flesh and appear to have been assembled by a true artisan. Even the eyesockets on their gossamer stalks and the pair of skeletal arms exhibit a pristinely precise construction which is rarely encountered in reanimated remains.

examine
Examine:
This zoetic quill is about the size of a raven feather quill that a professional scribe might use, however its jade rachis and ebon vane, and the tiny eyes at the juncture of nib and barrel, clearly set it apart. Pearlescent green scales cover the quill from the top of the nib to the base of the vane, while six diminutive, whip-like tentacles wrap tightly about the barrel to produce a spiral contour.

This zoetic quill is about the size of a swan feather quill that a professional scribe might use, however its gold rachis and ahmdir vane, and the tiny eyes at the juncture of nib and barrel, clearly set it apart. The glossy, ebon surface of the quill's soma appears rigid and smooth, while a pair of arms lie snug along the dorsal surface of the quill, and two pair of legs align to form parallel ridges along the anterior curve of the quill.

This zoetic quill is about the size of a swan feather quill that a professional scribe might use, however its copper rachis and ivory vane, and the tiny eyes at the juncture of nib and barrel, clearly set it apart. The hard, golden surface of the quill exhibits evenly spaced ridges from just behind the eyes to the base of the vane, while six segmented limbs lie closely interleaved along the anterior curve of the barrel, giving it a decidedly asymmetrical cross-section.
