MASTER BOWYER INVENTS NEW BOW!
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Dateline: Day 22 of Lormesta, 5104: Wehnimer's Landing

I felt it might be appropriate to errr... advertise a small bit for the upcoming merchant extravaganza. Now, we dwarves aren't really greedy, we just like to keep tabs on where all the silver is. And what better way to keep tabs on it than to keep it all locked up in strongboxes in your basement? Anyway, I digress... My brother Khordan has been doing good business in the Landing now for a few years, he has finally convinced me to come and bring my wares and my crafting skills to Wehnimer's. I decided that I would tantalize you with a small selection of the wares I will be bringing. I will be bringing a large selection of minor magical crossbows and bows to the town. Most of these have been crafted by my journeymen and assistants. For the last few years I have been perfecting a new invention for ranged combat. I am proud to announce that it is complete at last.

After a long period of experimentation I have finally managed to successfully create a dual crossbow.

Essentially, two crossbow arms are attached to a single stock, or tiller, if you will. With this improvement, one can rapidly release two bolts in quick succession. All one must do is fire the first bolt, then flip the crossbow over and fire the other. A veritable boon to those of you who enjoy sniping from the shadows and dislike regular bows. Sadly, manufacturing said crossbows is a very difficult and time consuming task. Only the best materials will hold up and only the most skillful craftsmen are able to produce them. To this end I will have but a few such bows completed in time for the caravan.

On a side note, I did manage to make a deal with a group of elven woodsmen who managed to bring me a few lengths of wyrmwood suitable for making bows. I will likely make a special bow for a customer at the caravan.

SPITFIRE ESSENTIALS!
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Dateline: Day 31st of Lormesta, 5104: Wehnimer's Landing

It wasn't but two eves ago that I was enjoying a warm meal and cold milk in the farthest corner that Helga's Tavern could provide. On this particular evening, I was eavesdropping more than usual. A scholar can never achieve his goals without the occasional eavesdropping!

When what to my wondering ears did I hear, but a table full of dwarves, drinking some beer! Between their mighty big chugs, I learned the tale of my desire. At the end of the month was coming the Spitfire!

Well, I wasn't about to let the hootin' and hollarin' table of dwarves wander on board the infamous Spitfire without first being prepared! I strode purposely over to the dwarves' table and announced my arrival with a shout of good cheer!

The dwarves of course, found this amusing and it was quite awhile before their laughs were subdued. It was then a fiery-bearded dwarf took the time to inquire into my business at their table. I politely explained I overheard their shared excitement over the arrival of the Spitfire and I might possess some information valuable to them. A little more convincing and I was soon snatched up and set roughly upon a chair, all eyes and beards focused on me.

I was quick to lay out my simple guideline for the mighty dwarves, which was met with a round of excited grunts! Now, avid readers of the Elanthian Journal, I will share the same steps with you!

When dealing with the halfling pirates of the Spitfire remember to never, ever:

1. Ask for merchandise on the top shelf.
2. Complain about hair in the food.
3. Roll them like barrels.
4. Ask them if their favorite letter is "R."
5. Inquire as to where they got their merchandise
6. Squawk like a parrot
7. Pay with tarts
8. Call them a gnome

Now, with those eight simple rules for shopping at the Spitfire, no man, dwarf or elf can ever go wrong! Well, as the night progressed, in light of their good news and Spitfire essentials, the dwarves of Helga's graced everyone with a free round of ale! For the first time in sixteen years, I once again enjoyed the bitter kick of Helga's Own. Needless to say, the rest of the time was a blur.

P.S. I woke up the next morning missing my favorite hat. It's a slouched black hat with a dusty white band and stuck with a tiny blue feather. Reward offered for its safe return!

BOTTOM OF THE BARREL 2: WISH YOU WERE THERE!
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Dateline: Day 23 of Lormesta, 5104: Icemule Trace

Firs' off, a great, big, heap of thanks to all the fellow Officers of Moonshine Manor for the planning and runnin' o' Bottom o' da Barrel! Then, followin' that heap of thanks, one more pile of thanks to all the members and non-members alike who dropped on down to Helga's on tha 23rd of Lormesta and played the ever popular Bottom of the Barrel!

For those o' you not familiar with Bottom o' da Barrel...it works like this. Firs', each player has to chug down 2 o' Helga's Ales, den, dey've got to run to assign'd locations in and 'round da city and shout out, "Moonshine Manor made me do it!", den, dey've got to collec' certain items or people and da firs' person to return to Helga's havin' complet'd all steps, wins!

So, round one, was interestin'. Folks had to drink, run 'round, and bring back a piece o' cheese, onions, some tea and some bread. Well, Round 1 victory went to Medlarrsonn, a member o' Moonshine Manor, he ev'n got some money and a small cheese-shaped golden medallion!

Second round, did some more drinkin', did some more runnin', den dey had to find a mithril box, a mithril weapon, and a dwarf, and bring 'em all back to Helga's! Findin' a willin' dwarf to get off his duff was tha hard'st part! But, in time, victory o' Round 2 went to Kenakai. He got some prize money and a mithril dwarf's head amulet!

Third round, more drinkin', a lot more plac's to run 'bout and scream, den dey had to find one article o' red clothin' and bring back two people, excludin' 'emselves, wit' red hair! Well, victory o' Round 3 went to Morganth, which got 'em some money and a round golden keg medal!

Fourth and final round, and consider'd da Championship Round (why? 'cause dat's jus' how it is!), so, der was a lot more drinkin'...and folks were gettin' a bit woozy by fourth round...so da runnin' 'round a lot was ev'n hard'r...and more blurry. Den, somewhar in one o' those spots ev'ry'un went a runnin'...someone was mingl'd in da crowds, holdin' a giant crystal keg, Moonshine Manor's official King o' Kegs! Well, firs' folk to bring 'em back would win! Round 4 victory wen' to Kenakai, who walk'd off wit' more prize money and...a large golden keg-shaped trophy!

Well, all in all, it was a good fun evenin'. Hell, always is when thar's good beer and bett'r women! So, thanks 'gain for all those who made Moonshine Manor's Bottom o' da Barrel 2 a great and wonderful time. We'll see you all nex' time...and for those who miss'd out...well...

Wish you were there!

JASTEV'S GARDEN LITTERED
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Dateline: Day 24 of Lormesta, 5104: Solhaven

The day was ending on a quiet note when the thought net throughout town began to buzz with news of what littered Jastev's Garden. Calls were made for people to join those already gathered for this showing in the great artist's court and many responded. What showing, you might be asking? What would people litter the Seer's court with?

Art. Over twenty-one pieces to be more precise. Eight artists from the lands gathered to display varying pieces of art created by their own hand. The showing was amazing and the pieces themselves were brilliant. Not only brilliant but purely amazing in their construct. One artist used living material for her sculpture, that of bark and flowers, while another turned veritable trash into a cleverly fashioned waterfall. Nor were sculptures the only pieces put on display. Tapestries, quiltings, paintings and embroidery were also displayed by the ten volunteers that worked the show.

Three judges, Gleeman Kilthal of Cairnfang Manor, Lady Dremiere of House Aspis and Lady Larktrill, roamed the courtyard looking for three Best Show pieces. In the end, they could not decide on three best and announced a tie for third place. All of the pieces will be put on display in Cairnfang Manor by either Lady Atania or Lady Kateerina and should you wish to view them these woman will gladly aid you in your search.

THE SNOWFLAKE FESTIVAL - DAY 1 WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Dateline: Day 26 of Lormesta, 5104: Icemule Trace

The fourth annual Silverwood Manor's Snowflake Festival was a fabulous success! Folks from all corners of the world ventured to Icemule Trace over this past weekend to partake in many fun-filled, snow-covered festivities! There were plenty of games, storytelling circles, snowball fights, performances, contests and other fun events!

The event kicked off with the opening ceremonies where a spoken prayer to Cholen was uttered in hopes that he would give blessings and strength to the festival-goers. Everyone gathered in a tight-knit circle around Taylir as she opened her voice and recited the prayer, while each person poured a bit of their snow lager on the ground. Cholen's pleasure was evident when the ground split open and a snow-covered path revealed itself right before their very eyes! The crowd cheered loudly and the time for the games and fun had come!

The first game of the night was "Herb Roulette" which was hosted by Shiril. The game consists of betting your hard earned silvers on which herbs you believe the Herb Master or Herb Mistress will randomly cast via the Herb Production spell. Players quickly passed their coins over to Banker Mythala, while making sure that Taylir the Bookie was keeping track of their bets. All eyes were on Herb Mistress Chica as she grew herbs right before their eyes! There were hoots and hollers as the winning herbs were grown, and lots of moans and groans when those sought after herbs failed to show themselves. In the end, everyone walked away with their pockets a bit heavier.

After everyone filled their pockets with the winnings of the night, the festival attendees grabbed cups of hot chocolate and warm pastries and then gathered in Storyteller's Circle. The topic of the night was "What Cause the First Snowfall in Icemule?" Participants could tell this tale with spoken word, a song, a poem, a dance, or any other expression of themselves. Prizes were awarded to the top three competitors. The third place recipient of the frosted ora medal was Marclar after his well-spoken story. Second place ended in a tie due to the talent performed by both of the frosted mithril medal recipients, Bijin and Larien. The first place frosted glaes medal was awarded to Ralkir for his wonderful song.

After the stories were told, the drink mugs were emptied, and the food was gobbled down, the fire was snuffed and everyone hurried off to bed to rest. The following day was to bring forth many more fun-filled activities for people of all ages! Be sure to pick up the next edition of the Elanthian Journal to read about the success of the rest of the weekend's events!

WANTED: A PRIEST OR PRIESTESS OF ZELIA!

Hallos my fellow Elanthian folk! Lunatick and I are writing this article to seek out the services of a priest or priestess of Zelia to perform one wedding extraordinaire fitting for us. The wedding itself is not planned to take place until after the halfling pirates have taken their Spitfire merchant ship far away from our home town. However, since this is such an important event, we wish to get a head start on the clerical selection process. If you are interested in offering your services for this momentous occasion, please seek out either myself or Lunatick. We can most often be found lingering on our street, just outside the House Pauper's walkway in Town Square Southwest.

LOST AND FOUND!

Jus' the oth'r bloody mornin' when I came inta Helga's Tavern to start mah day off wit' a round o' bitter ole Ale, I found a tiny little hat sittin' on mah favorite bar stool! Whosever it is is darn-tootin' lucky I didn't tear it apart! Either way, if ye've lost a hat, I've found it. Ask around at Helga's I'll be sure to return it. Hat was rather small, so probably belong'd to a gnome or halfling. Some white in the hat and it had the tiniest blue feather I ever done see.

Khylun Calaeben, the dwarf.
