The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol while in the confines of one of our outposts or monasteries, you will be able to view nearby undead infested locations that the Great Spirit Voln wishes our presence at. Further concentration on this Symbol will physically pull you to that location. The Great Spirit requires no favors from you to use this symbol, as he wishes you to free as many undead in that area as you are able."

The monk concludes ceremoniously, "Carefully nurture the favor of the Lords and dedicate yourself to the freeing of the undead so that you may bring honor to our Order. Now, go through the door here and enter the Master's Hall, where only masters of our Order may attend their thoughts and seek solitude and comfort."

Step 4:

The monk continues, "The fourth step along the Path to Enlightenment is governed by Lord Cholen. As you have done for past steps, you must now perform a task which honors Cholen. Lord Cholen is the god of festivals. Possessed of a beautiful voice and a beautiful face, he is joyful and playful. To honor him, visit the tavern of Hagatha and sing a song honoring Lord Cholen. To make the tavern more festive, be sure to provide libations for the patrons who may be there as well. Return here when you have completed this task."

>
The monk smiles and says, "The Great Spirit Voln came to the rescue of our founder, Lord Fasthr, and his men, who were fighting a desperate battle against the undead. Voln took pity on their situation and taught them some of his personal secrets in fighting the undead."
>
The monk continues, "You have already learned some useful symbols. When fighting the undead, you may encounter creatures of unusual power. Voln showed his prowess when he taught us how to temporarily diminish the power of our foes, so that we might more easily vanquish them."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Diminishment."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to call upon the favor of Lord Cholen to temporarily diminish the combat prowess of a targeted undead foe. This Symbol grows in strength as you progress on the Path to Enlightenment."

The monk concludes ceremoniously, "You must continue to earn the favor of the Lords of Liabo by dedicating yourself to the Order's purposes. Consider carefully before you call upon their favor, for it must be carefully nurtured. Return when you are ready to take the next step along the Path to Enlightenment. Go now and continue your work."

Step 5:

The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. You are doing well in your dedication to the Order. Now there is more that I must explain to you."
>
The monk solemnly says, "Now that you have honored Lord Cholen, it is time to honor his twin brother, Jastev, and complete the fifth task. Listen carefully and do not forget what I tell you."
>
The monk continues, "The fifth step along the Path to Enlightenment is governed by Lord Jastev. As with the Lords before, you must perform a task which honors Jastev. Though he is the god of visual arts, he is partial to dark poetry. Though sullen, he is an artistic genius. Your task is to recite poetry before death's gate which both honors Jastev and reflects his demeanor. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Glaise Cnoc, Cemetery - 5834]
  • recite Lord Jastev is a sullen soul.;Lord Jastev is artistic indeed.;Lord Jastev is the self-possessed.;Lord Jastev is morbid true,;Lord Jastev is serious, too.
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25940]
The monk approaches you and says hollowly, "You have done well, Alastir. Your dedication to the Order is a fine example for others to follow. Now, pause a moment and meditate on what I have to say."
>
The monk continues, "When the Great Spirit Voln agreed to teach the founders of our order, they first made their home in Tafali Manor. This became the site of our first monastery."
>
The monk pauses a moment before continuing. "You have learned some useful symbols with which you may prepare equipment to strike the undead and diminish our foes, but Voln knew that this would not be enough, and showed us how to increase our skills to hit our opponents."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Courage."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to call upon the favor of Lord Jastev, who will grant you greater courage. This Symbol grows in strength and duration as you progress on the Path of Enlightenment. You should also know that the courage that Lord Jastev lends us allows us to better resist the dreadful fear that certain undead can inspire."

Step 6:

The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. You are doing well in your dedication to the Order. Now there is more that I must explain to you."
>
The monk smiles and says, "Now that you have honored Lord Jastev, it is time to honor Imaera and complete the sixth task. Listen carefully and do not forget what I tell you."
>
The monk continues, "The sixth step along the Path to Enlightenment is governed by Lady Imaera. As you have done previously, you must perform a task which honors her. She is mistress of plants and nature, and to honor her, you must bring some of her lace to her quiet meadow shrine. When you place it there, you will know that she is pleased. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Ta'Vaalor, Garden of Ancients - 10375]
  • Forage for lace
  • ;go2 [Rambling Meadows, Shrine - 6011]
  • Offer lace to Imaera
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25944]
The monk hurries over to you and exuberantly exclaims, "You are doing nicely, Alastir! Your dedication continues to grow as you follow the path. Take a moment now to relax and meditate on what I have to say."
>
The monk puts an arm around you, saying, "Voln taught Lord Fasthr and his men for three years. At that time, and long afterward, the only members were Giantmen. That, of course, has since changed."
>
The monk continues, "You are learning well the symbols with which we fight the undead. Now you may learn the Symbol of Protection, whereby we may increase our ability to defend ourselves."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Protection."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to call upon the favor of Lady Imaera who will grant you greater protection. This Symbol grows in strength and duration as you progress on the Path of Enlightenment."

Step 7:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25967]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. You are doing well in your dedication to the Order. Now there is more that I must explain to you."
>
The monk frowns and says, "Now that you have honored Lady Imaera, you must honor the Lord Charl. Charl is Lord of the Seas and has a temperament befitting them. Listen carefully and do not forget what I tell you."
>
The monk scowls before continuing. "The seventh step along the Path to Enlightenment requires that you perform a task which honors Charl. Be careful that you do not upset this Lord, as he is merciless in his anger. To please him, you must offer back to him that which was taken from his sea. Cast it into the Lake of Fear so that it might return to Charl's domain. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • You must have a piece of coral for this task.
  • ;go2 [Lake of Fear, South Dock - 10119]
  • put coral (do not drop)
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25967]
The monk approaches you and says, "I am pleased, Alastir, that you continue in your dedication to the Order. Now hear what I have to say and meditate upon it carefully."
>
The monk turns and looks directly at you. "We are not a secret society. We live in the open. Our dedication is to freeing the undead from their curse. We have no other agenda."
>
The monk continues, "Lord Charl taught us how to master the undead and force their submission. When you use this symbol, they will drop their guard completely and prostrate themselves before you."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Submission."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to force the submission of the targeted undead creature, whereby they will not defend themselves. Like other Symbols, this will require favors from you."

Step 8:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25966]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. He is pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk enthusiastically says, "Now that you have honored Lord Charl and survived, you must now honor Lord Kai. Kai is the master of weaponless combat and athletic skills. Listen carefully and do not forget what I tell you."
>
The monk continues, "The eighth step along the Path to Enlightenment requires that you perform a task which honors Kai. Find the place which honors him and there challenge him to an appropriate competition. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Hall of the Arkati, Alcove - 13495]
  • say 'Kai, I challenge you to wrestle
  • Fight!
You mouth the words, but you can't hear them!

You hear someone chuckling from behind you. Whirling around, you see Kai with a grin from ear to ear.
>
Kai glances at you and says, "Well, what have we got here? So, Alastir, you have come to challenge me to a wrestling match. I hope you have some deeds!"

Kai bellows with laughter, then, after wiping a tear from his cheek, motions for you to attack. He has a wide grin on his face and you are getting a queasy feeling about this.
>
Kai suddenly raises his arms up and growls loudly at you. You duck and back away, much to Kai's amusement.

...

Kai feints a punch, making you flinch again. You are beginning to feel this "challenge" was a big mistake. If your head would quit swimming, maybe you could figure a way out.

Kai dances around you masterfully displaying his ability to out maneuver you. Each time you lose sight of him, he touches you on the top of your head. This is humiliating.

...

Kai bows to you with a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face. "You are a mighty warrior of uncommon power or stupidity. I accept your devotion." He then gestures slightly and disappears without a trace.

You feel overwhelmed by a sudden tingling sensation that seems to course through your body. You feel intense satisfaction at a task well done.
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25966]
The monk approaches you and smirks slightly. "Very good, Alastir. I trust that your bout went well? You continue to make progress and that is an excellent thing. Now meditate on what I have to say."
>
The monk puts a hand on your shoulder. "Never forget that we receive our strength and powers from the Lords of Liabo. You must continue to honor them if you wish to continue with our order."
>
The monk continues, "Lord Kai has taught us how to damage the undead, using nothing but our bodies. For those of us who fight the undead without steel or magic, this ability is vital to our success."

The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn Kai's Strike."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to damage undead creatures with your unarmed combat attacks. Kai grants you this ability without requiring favors from you."

Step 9:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25965]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. He is pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk grins and says, "Now that you have honored Lord Kai and are still in one piece, you must now honor Lord Phoen. Phoen is god of the Summer and Sun. He draws and gives strength from the light of day. Now, listen carefully and do not forget what I tell you."
>
The monk continues, "The ninth step along the Path to Enlightenment requires that you perform a task which honors Phoen. Bring the light and warmth of the sun into a place that sees little life normally. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Clentaran's Clerical Supply - 10372]
  • Buy - 1. a candle votive
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25965]
  • Light votive with fire
  • ;go2 [Catacomb, Entrance - 10685]
  • Wave votive
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25965]
The monk pulls you aside, smiling. "It is good to see you again, Alastir. Everyone is pleased with your progress. Be diligent and your progress will continue without interruption."
>
The monk turns you around and looks in your eyes. "Many fearless warriors have made it this far. Few make it much further, unless they are careful and do not become overconfident."
>
The monk continues, "While the living are drawn to the light, undead are unnaturally repelled by it. Lord Phoen has taught us how to harness the power of the Sun and use it to cleanse the cursed forms of the undead."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Holiness."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to call upon the favor of Lord Phoen to burn the impure body of a targeted undead creature. Like other Symbols, this will require favor from you."

Step 10:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25964]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. You are doing well in your dedication to the Order. Now there is more that I must explain to you."
>
The monk somberly continues. "Now that you have honored Lord Phoen, you must now honor Lady Lorminstra. Lorminstra is special to us because Voln is her servant. She guards the gates to oblivion. She takes special interest in our cause and is pleased when we release the captive spirits of the undead."
>
The monk continues, "The tenth step along the Path to Enlightenment requires that you perform a task which honors Lorminstra. Obtain an appropriate healing item and offer it up to her with supplication. If she is pleased, you will know it. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Hall of the Arkati, Altar - 10370]
  • Put an herb on the alter and PRAY
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25964]
The monk pulls you aside, smiling warmly. "I was speaking to a fellow initiate who knows you. It seems you have quite a reputation in certain circles." The monk chuckles a little before continuing...
>
The monk looks at you with a sparkle in his eyes. "You look seasoned enough to have experienced many unusual situations. Perhaps you have fallen in battle against undead foes, but were saved from oblivion by Lady Lorminstra's grace and the timely intervention of a cleric?"
>
The monk continues, "Such ordeals are draining and often time-consuming. Prompt return to battle is often hindered by the loss of magical wards upon death. Recasting one's spells quickly is difficult due to the often draining effects of death, and the loss of spells cast by others may be difficult to replace. Fortunately, Lorminstra has taught us a way to quickly restore our lost wards and spells upon returning to life."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Recall."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol after you have fallen in battle, Lorminstra will grant you a boon by restoring some or all of your magical wards upon your return to life. Be aware that Lorminstra is not fond of those who give up on their battle and voluntarily allow their spirit to depart from their body, and will not grant her boon in such cases. Lorminstra does not grant this boon freely, she will require favors from you."

Step 11:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25963]
The monk approaches you and says, "Hello, Alastir. Voln has favored you with his blessing. This is good. We are pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk smiles sardonically and says, "Now that you have honored Lady Lorminstra, you must now honor Lord Ronan. Ronan rules over the world of dreams and visions. He wanders the night on his white unicorn steed in an endless quest to save the innocent from the hands of the undead."
>
The monk continues. "The eleventh step along the Path to Enlightenment requires that you perform a task which honors Ronan. Go rest in the Hall of the Arkati and you will be tested. If he is pleased with you, you will know it. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Garden of Contemplation - 13494]
  • Now LIE down and REST.
>rest
You fold your arms behind your head and take a deep breath, relaxing.
P>
You suddenly fall into a deep sleep.
P>
A man garbed all in black slowly steps from the depths of a shadow and glances at you. You sense, more then recognize, that this is Ronan striding toward you. A misty, shimmering aura surrounds him and he is holding high one hand in greeting. His face is sardonic and appears a bit sleepy. He eyes you alertly, however, and you feel that Ronan knows exactly what is going on about him.

"So, you have come to seek my favor." Speaking as of facts, rather than a question, he continues, "Very well, then. To gain it you must answer me this riddle..."

>
Ronan continues, "Answer this riddle before your dream is finished and you shall have my favor."

"I am the part of the bird that is not in the sky,
that can drown in the ocean and yet remain dry.
A last vestige of man that refuses to die.
In mourning I am tossed at your feet to lie.
I begin my job early, devouring your ankles and thighs.
I work my way up, eating your legs to your waist.
And though around midday away I am chased,
I return quickly, to savor the arm of my taste.
As evening falls I enter your lungs,
spiraling down past your mouth and your tongue.
I feast on your body, your soul, and your mind,
but as darkness falls you shall find,
That away I will go, a relief for some.
At least until tomorrow morning comes."
  • SAY shadow
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25963]
The monk moves close to you and starts speaking. "Well done. Your progress is being observed with great interest. I trust that you will continue to move higher in the ranks of our good order."
>
The monk sizes you up a moment and then continues. "Ronan roams the lands of sleep and visions. He knows much that is beyond even our imaginings. From this knowledge he has taught us how we may cause creatures, even the undead, to fall asleep."
>
The monk goes on, "When overwhelmed by superior odds, you will find this symbol useful. The ability to make creatures sleep can affect every creature where you are, but you must not always expect this to happen, especially before you become a higher-ranking initiate. You will also find that this symbol will cause other adventurers to fall asleep."

The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Sleep."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to send your foes into slumber, but be aware that Ronan does not grant this ability freely. The full power of this symbol is up to you and how far you progress in our order."

Step 12:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25962]
The monk approaches you and says, "Hello, Alastir. Voln has favored you with his blessing. This is good. We are pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk serenely says, "Now that you have honored Lord Ronan, you must now honor Lady Lumnis, wife of Koar and the goddess of learning and wisdom."
>
The monk continues, "The twelfth step along the Path to Enlightenment requires that you perform a task which honors Lumnis. Make the library at Ta'Illistim your aim and seek out a banner of knowledge. When you show your respect there, your path will unfold. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Library Aies, Octagonal Hall - 13233]
  • BOW to the banner and LOOK at the banner
  • You will be asked a random question.
  • Find the correct room.
There's a faint rustle of wind that sweeps through the room and a voice chimes, "You do well to seek out knowledge. Before you have my blessing, you must prove to me you deserve it. Now pay attention. The questions I ask you can be answered by the rooms of this place. Seek the room that answers my question and pray there in hope it is the right place."

A voice twinkles in your ear, "The followers of Lumnis preserve knowledge and all the precious types of this."

A melodious voice in your head says, "You have done well. It shows that you want to progress along the path of Voln. Go with my blessing."

You are overwhelmed by a sudden tingling sensation that seems to course through your body. You feel intense satisfaction at a task well done.
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25962]
The monk draws you aside and says, "It is good to see you are progressing well in the Order. Keep up the good work by continuing to release the undead from the evil prison of their corrupted bodies."
>
The monk continues, "Lumnis is the wife of Koar and is the patron of scholars and masters of thought. She is also known as The Wise, spreading wisdom wherever she can. From her, we have learned how to transcend corporeal existence, if only for a time."
>
The monk continues, "We are often thrust into dangerous situations where we are at great risk of bodily harm. To aid us, Lumnis taught us a way to temporarily slip into the place between the corporeal and ethereal realms. We do not fully leave this realm, but we do become much harder to injure at no cost to our own offensive effectiveness."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Transcendence."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to call upon the favor of Lady Lumnis, who will grant you the ability to become partially incorporeal. The ability to slip between realms is draining, and can only be re-attempted after a short rest. You may also invoke this symbol while in dire circumstances, though a longer rest period will be required. Lumnis does not grant this ability freely. She will require favors from you."

Step 13:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25961]
The monk comes up to you and says, "Alastir! You are back! Voln has favored you with his blessing. This is good. We are pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk sternly says, "Now that you have honored Lady Lumnis, you now must honor Lord Koar, her husband. Koar is pleased with our dedication to Voln and Lorminstra and the struggle to free the undead from their imprisonment."
>
The monk continues, "The thirteenth step along the Path to Enlightenment requires that you perform a task which honors Koar. In town, there is a location where Koar stands sentinel with three other Arkati. Go there and pay your respects by saying: 'I have come to honor Koar, Master of Mana.' If he is pleased with you, you will know it. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Ta'Vaalor, Shimaerslin Wey - 3539]
  • KNEEL and SAY I have come to honor Koar, Master of Mana.
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25961]
The monk pulls you aside and says, "Congratulations, you have now learned half the steps on the Path to Enlightenment. May the second half bring you prosperity and satisfaction."
>
The monk continues, "Koar is Master of Mana. He, like no other, controls the pools of mana. This is why he leads the other Lords of Liabo. He has graced us with the ability to replenish the mana that lies within us."
>
The monk continues, "With a struggle as intense as ours can get, the pools within us often diminish faster than they can be replenished normally. This is why Lord Koar has taught us how to tap the mana around us so that we may regain our mana. This will cost you a deed to use. However, Koar will not take the deed if you chose to use this ability sparingly."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Mana."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to instantly recover spent mana. Koar does not grant this ability freely. He will require favors from you, in addition to the deed."

Step 14:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25960]
The monk comes to you and says, "Alastir! You are back! Koar has favored you with his blessing. This is good. We are pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk smiles and says, "Now that you have honored Lord Koar, you now must honor Lord Tonis, the messenger of the gods. He has a message which you must deliver. If you are successful and please Tonis, you will know it."
>
The monk continues, "To complete the fourteenth step along the Path of Enlightenment, you'll not find a happy task. A long time ago, a pair of young lovers found their days together cut short. Now, the spirit of the woman can't rest fully. She still waits for her lover to meet her atop the boulder, their normal meeting spot, along the Sylvarraend Road. Go there and deliver this message. Say, 'You have not been forgotten.' Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Sylvarraend Road, Boulder - 1836]
  • SAY You have not been forgotten.
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25960]
The monk pulls you aside and says, "Congratulations, you begin the second half of the Path to Enlightenment well. Keep up your good work and remain steadfast in your dedication."
>
The monk takes a deep breath. "Tonis flies through the lands delivering messages. Though often seen as a carefree youth, he has a serious side that he hides. Part of his duties tear at his heart and he, unlike the other male gods, perhaps, will weep."
>
The monk continues, "Tonis aids us further in our purpose by granting us the ability not only to recognize all others of our order, but also to see them and where they are for a short period of time. This is most useful when a member is in trouble or has died. You will be able to find out what is happening before you run in and perhaps find yourself facing foes greater than you can handle."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Sight."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol and a fellow member of the Order, you will be able to see for a time what is happening at their location, if they be nearby. This will require favors from you."

Step 15:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25957]
The monk comes to you and says, "Welcome back! Voln has favored you with his blessing. This shows that your dedication to the Order remains serious. Now, listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk gazes at you steadily. "Now that you have honored Lord Tonis, you must once again honor Lord Eonak. You must seek out the Temple of Eonak under the mountains and pray at his altar for his help. If Eonak accepts your homage, you will know it. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Temple of Eonak, East Sanctuary - 16727] (In Zul Logoth)
  • PRAY hammer and PRAY anvil
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25957]
The monk moves over to you and says, "I see you have completed your task. Very good. Continue in your dedication and work toward releasing the undead from their terrible plight."
>
The monk continues, "Eonak, the master of weapons, taught us how to bless weapons and armor, and you learned that symbol in the second step. There are times, however, when this is not enough, so he taught us how to surround our bodies with an aura of divine energy."
>
The monk continues, "This aura can strike back at undead foes who strike you in combat. Furthermore, if you should fall in battle, you can choose to release this aura as a powerful strike against any and all undead in the area."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Retribution."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you can surround yourself with a reactive energy aura or, if you have fallen in combat, launch a powerful strike from beyond the grave. Like most other symbols, either usage will require favors from you."

Step 16:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25956]
The monk steps aside with you saying, "I see you have pleased Eonak. This is honorable and good. Now listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk smiles and says, "Now that you have honored Lord Eonak, you must once again honor Lady Oleani. Find the field of wildflowers and there, a latticework building. Present there on the altar, a man and woman's sign of love and marriage. During this task, be sure to show kindness to lovers so that Oleani will be fully pleased with you. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Ta'Vaalor, Tmareantha's Jewels - 10328]
  • BUY a wedding band and wedding ring
  • ;go2 [Latticework Building - 10268]
  • PUT band and ring on altar
  • BOW
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25956]
The monk moves over to you and says, "I see you have completed your task. Very good. Continue in your dedication and work toward releasing the undead from their terrible plight."
>
The monk continues, "Oleani found favor with us and our work and so taught us how to communicate with each other over long distances. You learned about this symbol on the third step. She also taught us something else."
>
The monk continues, "Lady Oleani taught us not only how to project our thoughts to others, but how to tap into this gestalt consciousness, in order to call upon our combined combat experiences with the undead. Fortified with the experience of many, we become much more aware of the potential vulnerabilities of each type of undead creature and thus become better combatants in our own right."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Supremacy."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to temporarily increase your offensive combat prowess against the undead. This Symbol grows in strength and duration as you progress on the Path to Enlightenment. Like other Symbols, the use of this power will require favors from you."

Step 17:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25955]
The monk steps aside with you saying, "It is good to see that you are continuing to free the undead from their prison. No matter how weary you become in this great struggle, you must remember that we have a noble quest. Without us, the undead will remain forever as they are. Now, listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk smiles broadly and says, "Now that you have honored Lady Oleani, you must once again honor Lord Cholen. Keep in mind always that Cholen is a lover of laughter and loves those who know how to laugh well. To complete the seventeenth task, gather an audience and take them to the theater."
  • ;go2 [Theatre Andaire - 10437]
  • You will need someone to laugh at you, while you ACT out things.
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25955]
The monk pats you on the back and says, "You did well in finishing your task. It must be hard work." Then she looks at you with a grin and winks. "I trust your sense of humor was in no way damaged?"
>
The monk continues, "Well, Cholen is quite the prankster, but he also has a serious side and is a deadly foe. You would rue the day you were at the receiving end of his pale wood longbow."
>
The monk continues, "Now, it is inevitable when fighting the undead that you will be hurt and require healing. Cholen has shown his kindness and taught us how to salve some of the hurts that are sure to befall you in this great conflict. This power will not cure bleeding nor mend visible wounds, but it will restore some of your health to you."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Restoration."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to recover some of the health you have lost. Cholen does not grant this ability freely, and will expect favors from you."

Step 18:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25954]
The monk steps aside with you saying, "You are progressing well, Alastir. I trust that you are also studying your notes on our order and have not thrown them away for someday you will need them. Now, listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk solemnly says, "Now that you have honored Lord Cholen, you must once again honor Lord Jastev. You may remember that Jastev has the ability to foresee doom and often he has predicted plagues, destruction, and wars. Now you must seek out for yourself a vision from him."
  • go2 [Foothills - 10176]
  • TOUCH the shrine (I had to run back to the monk, and then back to the shrine for this to work.)
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25954]
The monk appears to be rather somber and she approaches you slowly but deliberately. "I trust you learned something from Jastev. Our lot in this world is beset with tragedy and it would do us all good to reflect on this from time to time."
>
The monk continues with a slight frown. "It is from tragedy that we gain courage. An easy life is for cowards. Jastev provided us with the Symbol of Courage in the fifth step. But he also gave us another Symbol which may be used even in death."
>
The monk continues, "Lord Jastev knows what fear is and so at the times you are in trouble and fear for your life, you may use this symbol to send a picture of your location to all the nearby members of our Order. You may use this symbol even in death. However, it will require favors when used."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Need."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to send an image of your location to all nearby members of our Order."

Step 19:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25953]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. He is pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk smiles and says, "Now that you have honored Lord Jastev, you must once again honor Imaera. Her love of nature is renowned and you must go and find her shrine out near the Rambling Meadows."
>
The monk continues, "There you must also pray and seek her, and perhaps she will visit you. When she does visit you, be careful or she will leave. If you honor her correctly, you will know it. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Rambling Meadows, Shrine - 6011]
  • KNEEL
  • PRAY deer
  • BOW deer
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25953]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. You are doing well. Keep up the good work and remember to never throw away your notes. You never know when they will be needed."
>
The monk continues softly, "Imaera is beautiful in any form she takes. You would do well to remember that the Lords of Liabo often take upon themselves different forms or guises in order to walk among us undisturbed. A sharp eye may prevent you from making an embarrassing or dangerous error someday."
>
The monk continues, "Lady Imaera taught us the Symbol of Protection and I'm sure you have found it very useful. She also taught us how to allow the vitality of nature to renew our very souls."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Renewal."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to regain lost spirit. Calling upon nature in this way too often is damaging to the balance of life, so Imaera requires you wait to allow nature to replenish itself before calling upon this ability again. Imeara does not grant this ability freely, and she will require favors from you."

Step 20:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25952]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. He is pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."
>
The monk thoughtfully says, "You have made excellent progress on the Path of Enlightenment. You honored Lady Imaera in the last step. Now you must prepare for Charl again. Listen carefully and do not forget your instructions."
>
The monk continues, "You must pay Charl an act of homage equal to your rank. Do not be stingy or he will not be pleased. Toss some coins into the nearby lake where the dock stretches out over fear."
  • ;go2 [Lake of Fear, South Dock - 10119]
  • DROP 100*Character Level silvers
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25952]
The monk frowns at you and then says, "Welcome back, Alastir. You are doing well. Keep up the good work and remember to study hard and never throw away your notes. You never know when they will be needed."
>
The monk continues, "Charl can be frightening, but if you call upon his daughter, Niima, she may temper his anger. But it is best not to anger him as he is most successful in his wrath."

The monk continues, "As his wrath will not be denied, he lends us his strength to affect those undead who have been stripped of their corporeal form. As these cursed shades lack physical bodies, engaging them in combat is often difficult and dangerous. Charl has taught us how to disrupt the ethereal bodies of these creatures, such that we may more easily combat them."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Disruption."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to summon a churning spectral aura around both yourself and any group members. Successful attacks against non-corporeal creatures may then temporarily disrupt them, slowing them down and making them weaker in combat. Like most other Symbols, Charl will require favors from you for its use."

Step 21:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25951]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. You are doing well in your dedication to the Order. Now there is more that I must explain to you."

The monk smiles and says, "Your progress on the Path of Enlightenment is going well. Now that you have once again honored Charl, you now must prepare to honor Kai once again. Listen carefully and do not forget your instructions."

The monk continues, "You must show Kai a simple sacrifice and perform a simple feat. Deep under the mountains, near where the Dwarves call home, there are a set of caverns bearing the name Czeroth. At its heart, drop a weapon into the rancid water. You will know if Kai is pleased with your donation. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [The Ta'Vaalor Weaponry - 10367]
  • BUY any weapon
  • ;go2 [Czeroth Caverns, Rancid Pool - 9609]
  • DROP weapon
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25951]
The monk looks at you warmly and says, "Hello, Alastir. Your steps along the path grow ever longer. It is good to see the fruit of your hard work. And I trust you have kept careful notes of your lessons?"
>
The monk continues. "Kai is a brawler of the highest order. He knows moves we can only dream about. In his kindness, he has shown us how to strike the undead with our bare hands. He also showed us a technique to strike the undead with greater power."

The monk continues, "If you combat the undead with your bare hands, Kai has taught us a move whereby we can strike directly at the curse binding the undead to this realm. Against corporeal creatures, this manifests as more crushing blows and additional damage. Against non-corporeal foes, this move can temporarily pull them into corporeal form, so that they might be more easily damaged."

The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn Kai's Smite."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to perform SMITE unarmed combat attacks against the undead. Once again, Kai grants you this ability without requiring favors from you."

Step 22:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25950]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. He is pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."

The monk grins and says, "Your progress on the Path of Enlightenment is going well. Now that you have once more honored Kai, you now must prepare to honor Phoen again. Listen carefully and do not forget your instructions."

The monk continues, "In the depths of Wraithenmist, there is a dock where the darkness eddies and swirls. Bring Phoen's light there, either from a spell or item, or a lit votive from my fire here, and part the darkness. When this is accomplished, you will know Phoen is content. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Clentaran's Clerical Supply - 10372]
  • BUY a candle votive
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25950]
  • LIGHT votive with fire
  • ;go2 [Wraithenmist, Fishing Dock - 1830] (Outside Illistim)
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25950]
The monk smiles widely and says, "Hi, Alastir. Isn't it a pleasure to advance? Keep up the good work of your labors. They will always be worth it. By the way, do you still have your notes from when you were a young initiate?"

The monk continues, "Phoen grants us strength. He taught us how to harness the holy power of the Sun to damage the undead. In addition, he has also taught us how to use the power of light to turn the undead, repelling and perhaps even destroying them."

The monk continues, "The undead are vulnerable to all that is holy. This allows us to turn holy power upon them and repel them, even to their destruction. Phoen showed us an effective way to turn the undead which may also affect all the undead with you. Do not expect this to work always, but it can turn the tide of a battle in a heartbeat."

The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Turning."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to turn the undead from your presence. Phoen does not grant this ability freely. He will require favors from you."

Step 23:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25949]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. He is pleased with your dedication to the Order. Listen carefully as I explain more to you."

The monk somberly says, "Your progress on the Path of Enlightenment has been good to you. Now that you have honored Phoen, you must now prepare to honor Lorminstra again. Listen carefully and do not forget your instructions."

The monk continues, "Go to the Hall of the Arkati and there offer to give a deed to another. Make sure that one is present and that they need a deed. If Lorminstra is pleased, you will know it. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • ;go2 [Hall of the Arkati, Entry - 10370]
  • SAY Lorminstra give <person> my deed. (Person must have 0 deeds, you must have at least 2.)
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25949]
The monk looks at you wearily and says, "Well, Alastir, you did it. Now get back to work and make sure you don't slough off. I can't stand a sluggard. Oh -- you'd better study your lessons carefully, though if you haven't by now, it's probably too late."

The monk frowns even more deeply before continuing, "Lorminstra is a lovely lady and she loves our cause. She knows we die a lot, so she decided to show us how to preserve our own spirits, even when dead. I see you are surprised. Good."

The monk continues with a sigh, "The next time you die, you can use this Symbol to delay the inevitable. You will still need a cleric, so don't get your hopes too high. And you might want to be more careful next time you go about trying to take on the entire undead population all by yourself."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Preservation."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to preserve your spirit and others from decay after death. This favor comes to you at a cost."

Step 24:

  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25948]
The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. You are doing well in your dedication to the Order. Now there is more that I must explain to you."
>
The monk smirks and says, "Your progress on the Path of Enlightenment has been good for you. Now that you have honored Lorminstra, you now must prepare to honor Ronan again. Listen carefully and do not forget your instructions."
>
The monk continues, "Here, you see a pit. This leads to the task that Ronan has laid out for you. He will test your ability to face challenges with and without your senses. When you feel you are ready to face this challenge, JUMP in and good luck. Return here when you have completed this task."
  • In the same room as the monk, you must JUMP into the pit
  • SEARCH until you find a stone-carved door, then GO DOOR. Ignore all other doors.
    • You leave the metal door and search around and find a simple stone-carved door.
  • SMELL until you have a scent of a battlefield, then GO BATTLEFIELD.
    • You turn slightly from the scent of the burning wood and find your nose fills with the scent of a battlefield.
  • LISTEN until you hear a nightingale, then GO NIGHTINGALE.
    • You find yourself listening to the sound of a singing nightingale.

Now, Ronan will test you.

  • If Ronan moves left, LEAN RIGHT.

Ronan selects a silver-handled claidhmore and turns to face you. As he begins to move down the long hallway, you can clearly see his not too subtle feint to your left.

  • If Ronan moves right, LEAN LEFT.
    • Ronan selects a leather-wrapped Hammer of Kai and turns to face you. As he begins to move down the long hallway, you notice the path he's taking towards your right side.
  • If Ronan glances at your feet, JUMP.
    • Ronan selects a sinuous black leather whip and turns to face you. As he begins to move down the long hallway, you notice that Ronan keeps glancing at your feet.
  • If he holds a weapon at your head, DUCK.
    • Ronan selects a rather large sword and turns to face you. As he begins to move down the long hallway it looks like the blade is leveled for a clean swipe at your head.
  • If his spear is aimed at your chest, FALL.
    • Ronan selects a gleaming broad-headed spear and turns to face you. As he begins to move down the long hallway, the spear is set right at the height of your chest.
  • If he puts you to sleep, ROLL.
    • Ronan selects a gold-bladed dagger and turns to face you. As he begins to move down the long hallway, he waves his off hand casually, and you fall asleep.
  • Once complete, you will be returned to the monk to receive the symbol.
The monk greets you cheerfully. "Very good, Alastir. You have shown yourself worthy. Further challenges await you, so don't rest yet in your dedication to the Order."
>
The monk looks at you warmly before continuing. "Ronan comes to our aid often. I trust you have found the Symbol of Sleep useful in the Struggle."
>
The monk continues, "Ronan knows about the healing power of rest and sleep. This is why he taught us a way to accelerate the natural healing process. If you rest after recalling this Symbol, you will experience a quickening of your health, life, and vitality. But remember, you must rest."
>
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Dreams."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you will be able to quicken your recovery of health, spirit, stamina, and even from the effects of death's sting. Like most other symbols, this will require favors from you."

The monk approaches you and says, "Welcome back, Alastir. I see that Voln has continued to favor you with his blessing. You are doing well in your dedication to the Order. Now there is more that I must explain to you."
>
The monk solemnly says, "Your progress on the Path of Enlightenment has been good. Now that you have honored Ronan, you must now prepare to honor Lumnis again. Listen carefully and do not forget your instructions."
>
The monk continues, "The medallion I am about to give you points to places that represent Lumnis' nature. Read the medallion and seek out the place referenced. If the medallion leaves your hand, its power will fade and it will be lost. Should that happen, return here and I will give you another one. Return here when you have completed this task."

The monk says, "Take this medallion and venture to a wooded glade with a pale limestone altar to a spiritual beacon. Go there and read your medallion".

The words in the center of the blue ring glow with a bright inner flame and seem to be drawing power from your hand. The light from the words grows brighter and suddenly flares, leaving the blue ring dull and muted.

A faint tingling voice in your ear says, "You have done well in finding this place. But there is still more for you to seek. Nature and the elements abound. Head for the restored city and read your medallion at the mouth of the waterfall to satisfy the elemental ring. As before, reading it elsewhere will lend you a hint."

A faint tingling voice in your ear says, "You have done well in finding this place. But there is still more for you to seek. Chaos is not always a bad thing. Travel to the heart of Ta'Illistim and read your medallion in a place where chaos thrives. As before, reading it elsewhere will lend you a hint."

A faint tingling voice in your ear says, "You have done well in finding this place. But there is still more for you to seek. Under the mountain home, a burial ground of bones holds the key to the planar ring. Venture there and read your medallion to proceed. As before, reading it elsewhere will lend you a hint."

A faint tingling voice in your ear says, "You have done well in finding this place. But there is still more for you to seek. Order has its place. The guardians of the elven town of Ta'Vaalor can appreciate this. At the entry to their monument of order, read your medallion. As before, reading it elsewhere will lend you a hint."
  • ;go2 [Ta'Vaalor, Victory Wey - 3520]

You are overwhelmed by a sudden tingling sensation that seems to course through your body. You feel intense satisfaction at a task well done.
  • ;go2 [The Path to Enlightenment - 25947]
The monk pulls you aside and says, "Excellent work, Alastir! That was quite a challenge, especially if you forgot to save your notes. You are nearing the end of the steps so don't delay in your dedication to the Order's duty now."

The monk continues, "Lumnis showed us how to protect our mind and spirit, and now she has taught us how to return safely to our homes."

The monk continues, "Lumnis gave us the power to return us and our group to a place of safety here within the walls of the brotherhood. This is a most useful Symbol and one which has saved many lives."

The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Returning."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.

The monk continues, "By concentrating on this Symbol, you shall be able to carry yourself and your group back to a safe place within one of our enclaves. Like most other symbols, this will require favors from you."

Step 26:

  • No task for this one! Congrats!
The monk looks at you with a beaming smile and exclaims, "Welcome, Master Alastir. I see that Voln has favored you with his blessing. You have done well in your dedication to the Order. Now there are but two more things to explain to you."
>
The monk smiles and says, "Your progress on the Path to Enlightenment is now complete. You have honored all the Lords and they are pleased with your dedication. From this day forward, you shall be a Master in the Order of Voln."
>
The monk continues, "Now, you have the right and the duty to INVITE others into the Order. Anyone you invite may come now to be cleansed and join our order as an initiate. There is only one limitation. You may not invite anyone under the third level of training in their profession."
The monk formally pronounces, "Now watch carefully and learn the Symbol of Seeking."

The monk traces an intricate symbol in the air which seems to glow brightly. The image intensifies and burns itself into your memory.
