The faint scent of peppermint and pine lingers through the hallway, the ornament-shaped pomanders strung between the corners by garlands of rope. A lacquered set of wooden steps lead down towards the freshly brushed ice rink, the nearby mahogany rails draped in pairs of sharp-bladed skates and several knotted scarves. You also see a pearl-washed stand covered in glittery parchment-cut snowflakes.

Winter's Joy, Rink

Starburst-cut panels of frosted glass create the gently curved dome of the skating rink, the sunlight creating a kaleidoscope of colors across the brushed ice. Encircling the perimeter of the rink are oiled mahogany rails draped in garlands of aromatic fir needles, the gradual lengths interspersed by tiny gilt-washed pinecones. Affixed along the ceiling are rope-bound lanterns forged into eight-pointed snowflakes, the perforated metal highlighting the shards of arathiel inset into each piece.
