Astrolabes are non-wearable fluff items originally released at Ebon Gate in 2008. They are navigational instruments used to take astronomical measurements of celestial bodies.

An astrolabe can be permanently attached to a compatible neck support. This destroys the support and converts the astrolabe into a neck-worn accessory with a new long description. An astrolabe can only be strung once. Astrolabes and neck supports are now sold at Red Skies.

Astrolabe

The astrolabe begins as a non-wearable item. Using PUT ASTROLABE ON SUPPORT permanently attaches it to a compatible neck support, making the astrolabe neck-worn.

Analyze

Your brass astrolabe is a navigational instrument used to make astronomical measurements of celestial bodies.

You may alter only the 15/15/15 of the astrolabe. If PUT onto an appropriately scripted neck-worn chain/string, the long description of the astrolabe will be permanently changed. This may only be done ONE time.

Your brass astrolabe is a navigational instrument used to make astronomical measurements of celestial bodies.

You may freely alter the description of the astrolabe as long as it remains an astrolabe.

Verb Traps: RAISE, RUB, and TURN

Usage

Verb Style First Third
PUT Unstrung You decide to permanently attach an openwork brass astrolabe to a knotted length of string.
After fiddling for a moment, you produce an openwork brass astrolabe suspended from a knotted length of string.
XXX strings an openwork brass astrolabe onto a knotted length of string, producing an openwork brass astrolabe suspended from a knotted length of string.
RAISE Held Lifting your astrolabe to eye level, you carefully rotate the alidade to the correct position and make a mental note of the reading. XXX lifts his brass astrolabe to eye level, his brow furrowing slightly as he carefully rotates the alidade.
Worn You find it difficult to maneuver the astrolabe while wearing it. Try removing it and raising it again. N/A
RUB Held You polish the surface of your brass astrolabe in an attempt to read the small graduations etched into the rim of the mater. XXX polishes the surface of his brass astrolabe.
Worn You run your thumb over your brass astrolabe, polishing the surface. XXX polishes the surface of his brass astrolabe.
TURN Held Turning your brass astrolabe over in your hand, you reset the alidade. XXX turns his brass astrolabe over in his hand and fiddles with it for a moment.
Worn You nervously fiddle with your brass astrolabe. XXX nervously fiddles with his brass astrolabe.

Neck Support

The neck support is a neck-worn chain, cord, ribbon, string, or similar item intended to be permanently attached to an astrolabe. It may only have a 15/15/15 description and cannot have a long or show description. The support is destroyed when combined with an astrolabe.

Analyze

This is an Astrolabe Neck Support. You could DROP an astrolabe on the string to string the astrolabe and make it neck-worn. Only the base 15/15/15 is alterable; a show or long description is not allowed.

Usage

Verb First Third
INSPECT The string looks as if it would be the perfect support for an astrolabe. Perhaps you should find one to PUT onto it. N/A
LOOK The string looks as if it would be the perfect support for an astrolabe. Perhaps you should find one to PUT onto it. N/A

Additional Information

Astrolabe neck supports can be added to astrolabes to allow for them to be worn around the neck. To combine the items, the astrolabe and neck support must both be held. Use PUT ASTROLABE ON SUPPORT. The support must use the Astrolabe Neck Support script, and neither item can already have a long or show description.

Combining an openwork brass astrolabe with a knotted length of string produces:

an openwork brass astrolabe suspended from a knotted length of string

The combination process permanently destroys the neck support.
