Walking up to the gates of the shining city, a dark elven woman pauses. She takes a moment to adjust her armor and kick some mud from her boots. Looking back the way she came, the woman turns and enters the gates, ignoring the guards and their hateful stares. Shaking her head, she thinks, "It's as good as any to make a start, but I will be relieved once I finally leave these walls."


With quick steps, she moves deeper into the city and before long stands before a white-marbled rotunda. She lightly traces a series of ebon raven tattoos inked on her half-shaved scalp as she admires the sunlit stained-glass roof that sends shimmering color into the air.
It has become apparent that a large population of [[Faendryl]] live scattered in [[Elanthia]], far from the center of Faendryl [[culture]] in [[New Ta'Faendryl]]. The Faendryl government has begun to recognize this group as a raw, untapped resource.


"I hope Ambassador Tredohal is ready for this," she says as she enters the building and disappears into the chamber beyond.
Periodically, the academies will send out trainers to search the lands for those who have the potential to be [[Palestra]], but have not had the luxury of presenting themselves to the academy. These individuals may be given a chance to earn a place in the ranks of the Palestra through a lesser academy if they can prove their skills and abilities are on par with other graduates.

Walking along the var towards the gates, Blade Schalyne pauses and pulls out an old, faded map. Her finger traces a trail leading west. Carefully folding the parchment, she tucks it away in her tunic as she walks on.

“I think those Faendryl will make decent candidates. Who knew that we had so many wandering brethren? If they’d had the chance to be academy trained, I wonder where they would be now? We will never know, I suppose. Now, let’s see this Landing everyone speaks of and see what caliber of Faendryl live there.”

Passing through the gates of the Shining City, the Faendryl woman moves quickly down the trail towards the great dwarven caverns.

Stepping outside the wooden gates, the Faendryl woman pauses. She adjusts the weapons at her side and pulls out a creased map. Looking to the north, she takes out a thick coat from her pack and wraps it about her waist.

“I suppose I will need this before long if the tales are true,” she says to herself. “I can only hope I do not spend my time in that cold waste of a town tripping over small, annoying creatures.”

Walking up the trail, she continue muttering to herself. “So many have forgotten the ways of our House. They have forgotten how to be Faendryl. Yet, perhaps there are one or two who are still true to the Patriarch and have the skill.”

Suddenly shivering, the woman unties her coat and slides it over her arms and back. Pulling up the hood, she conceals her face and trudges on north.

I also want to clarify, this is not an official "group." No [[NPC]] will come and hold meetings or drills. This is to give those players who have been rping a Palestra and have a passion for the group, a chance to earn a place in their ranks and go forward with their rp in a more official capacity. It also opens the door for possible future events. Faendryl can now hire Palestra for protection and more, as many do in NTF. This is not an IG function, but a [[roleplay]] decision made between the Palestra and Faendryl.

Traveling far and wide about the lands, I have found four candidates that may perhaps be worthy of entering the ranks of the Palestra. Arku, Durakar, Aurach and Noira have been recommended by numerous Faendryl. Their presence is requested on the eleventh and twelfth days of this month at nine elven time at the embassy in Ta’Illistim. These candidates will be asked to complete a series of challenges. All Faendryl are invited to watch the trials.

Tonight Master Jahosk of Mahkra Academy accepted four new Palestra. They are known as Blade Arku, Blade Durakar, Blade Aurach, and Sarissa Noira. They have worked hard and have used this opportunity to show their RP skill. It was amazing to watch them in action over the last few weeks.
Excellent job to you four and all those Faendryl who came to watch. You really made my week. Also, these four are for hire!

Thank you to SGM Galene and Haliste for working through this project with me as well as APM Liia. GM Scribes, GM Flannihan, and GM Mariath for their help with QC on the new area, and document and for ideas on the document.

“Ambassador, it would see we have a problem in the outworld.”

“I have just heard Magistrate. It seems I am needed in Ta’Illistim once again. I knew this experiment of wandering Palestra was a mistake. But the Patriarch would have his way, All honor and glory.”

“Ambassador, they will bring us to battle with the Vaalorians, and that is something the Patriarch does not want.”

“I will speak with the Wanderers, Magistrate and discover the answers to these issues. In the meantime, I have a charge for them. They are to report directly to me their findings on the demons that attack. I have checked the place where they were commanded to leave missives, and there is nothing. Hopefully this guidance from the Basilica will give them direction."

“We trust you to handle this situation Ambassador. All honor and glory to the Patriarch.”

“Honor and glory to the Patriarch,”

The two figures move off in opposite directions. Their brief exchange noticed by another in the shadows.

Pacing back and forth the Faendryl mutters to herself. She pauses every few steps as she reads over the parchment in her hands again and again.

“Bring the Palestra and their chosen?“

Gazing out the window into the night sky, the she reads the document once more.

“Has this experiment done so well that we wish more of them? Now they wish to allow each to present a chosen? A new apprentice for trial?”

Closing her eyes, she whispers, “I do your will.”

Sitting at her desk, the Blade begins to write.

Sorry I did not see this before, but as I posted earlier:

I would suggest if a character ever wishes to become one, they should seek out one of the current Palestra and make it a key point of their Rp. Ask to train with them, similar to a squire working with a knight. I know of at least one character working on such rp.

Each Palestra is invited to present their apprentices for trials and there is the opportunity for the one Sarissa to retrial if she chooses.

I also did some refining after the first trials, so I am really excited to do this again.

The arena areas of NTF will be open to all Faendryl who wish to attend.

The dates for this event is March 1 - 3.

I totally understand your concerns and hope to clarify here if I can and maybe alleviate some of them.

I am working on events where Faendryl have a chance to meet with the current Palestra. Three are active out of the original 4 and the fourth has already written to me about an apprentice if not for this time, for the future. So I feel this is moving in the right direction. One has asked to take on two apprentices, which was fine with me after observing the rp involved.

I agree, I should not have used the knight analogy, it was bad form in hindsight and I do apologize for it. I should have kept it to ooc places if I was going to use it.

I do not plan on the next trials being 2 years away. I am looking for it to be a regular event. I also saw a need for the current Palestra to have something to do besides wearing a pretty title. There will be at least monthly events where we do a discussion about something Palestra and then go explore some hunting area or work on skills etc. This gives the Palestra and other Faendryl a chance to talk and get to know each other better to facilitate a natural progression leading to apprentice.


I am also watching how the apprentice process goes and will help and make tweaks, encourage, etc... as needed.

The apprentice titles are a great idea, and I will look into something for future apprentices so they have something to show while they are striving for their trials.

So, I do understand the issues you present, and I hope maybe some of the above helps a bit, even if we may not agree on all of it, but for this round I am going to stick to the original plan and keep them to the apprentices. But I am also going to make sure that there are events where Palestra can meet with those aspiring to be one to help begin the rp between Palestra and apprentice. I would also encourage any Faendryl to send a note to, or seek out in game, the Palestra if you support someone working with them as an apprentice.

I think and hope that what we will have going forward will be something that will foster rp for those who truly wish to take the path to Palestra.

Please feel free to send me any other ideas, comments etc. I am always working to move forward and to improve. Your ideas, or pointing out something that is terrible, does help.

I had not planned on my Blade taking part like this, and she will not recommend anyone who is not really ready at this time. While she was tasked with these wanderers, she is not totally on board with this "experiment", and there is no way she will compromise her honor with a poor candidate. (I hope some of her IC posts have given that impression. Many in NTF think them a novelty and a bad idea). This is all IC for her! (not my personal feelings)

But, if I can be around during hours where others cannot, maybe I can help those people get involved. At the very least she will talk with anyone who wants to talk to her and introduce them to other Palestra. She will not be taking apprentices, she feels all the wandering Palestra are her apprentices in a way, but if she finds someone who was of the caliber of the first group, she may decide to recommend them.

As I said before, this is not a perfect system, and I am not perfect myself. I learn from you, the players, every day. This round has opened my eyes to somethings I did not think of or plan for, so I will be going back to the drawing board and reworking some of my Palestra ideas for the future.

So, for the next week I am going to focus on promoting Palestra RP and the trials. After that I am going to keep the Rp going throughout the year so there is no scramble, like this feels like, (one of the many areas I am learning from), for the next time.

Thank you all again for the positive ideas and discussion. The fact that everyone here is so passionate about their culture is wonderful. I will be popping some rp events up on the forums tonight. Some may be for everyone, some may be for Palestra and apprentices. All Faendryl are welcome at NTF for the trials and in the next few weeks for final ceremony.

The arenas of New Ta'Faendryl will open for three days of Palestra trials. Each wandering Palestra may present their chosen candidate for trial.

Blade Schalyne Faendryl will be traveling about the lands during the first weeks of Imaerasta. She will be seeking out current Palestra who wish to present candidates for consideration. She also welcomes any without sponsorship who wish to train to come speak with her. She has been known to present her own candidates.


Candidates must be fully trained in a weapon as their primary means of combat, which does not include a runestaff. While Palestra can use magic, they are physical combatants, warriors, and fighters first.


Imaerasta 16th at 9 pm Elven (Friday Sept 16) ~ Formal reception held in Mahkra Academy with presentation of candidates. The presentation will include a demonstration of skills and proficiency with their chosen weapon. (This can be done with verbs, ACTS, weapon scripts, guild skills etc. Any way you can show off skill is acceptable.)

Imaerasta 17th at 8 pm Elven (Saturday Sept 17) ~ The Trials. This consists of a series of three battles against a candidate, Master, and finally a demon.

Imaerasta 18th at 9 pm Elven (Sunday Sept 18) ~ Closing Ceremony to conclude the trials and formally present the new members of the Palestra.

There will be a portal in the Faendryl Embassy in Ta'Illistim for all who wish to attend any of the events.

What does this all mean??

If you have spoken to Blade Schalyne, she has told you most of the following:

  • You must send me a background of your character and include the reason for wanting to train as Palestra.
  • Send me the written recommendation of two Faendryl PC's.
  • Your character must be level 20 as of 1/1/2016
  • Palestra are warriors first. Your character must be max trained in a weapon, not a runestaff (for your level) and be a someone who primarily fights with a weapon.

The written items should be sent to my play.net no later than midnight on 1/17/2016

Eligible Faendryl that meet the criteria to be included in the Palestra Trials will be notified before 2/1/2016.

Candidates and others of Faendryl descent who wish to watch the trials will be allowed to travel to New Ta'Faendryl.

I also want to clarify, this is not an official "group." No NPC will come and hold meetings or drills. This is to give those players who have been rping a Palestra and have a passion for the group, a chance to earn a place in their ranks and go forward with their rp in a more official capacity. It also opens the door for possible future events. Faendryl can now hire Palestra for protection and more, as many do in NTF. This is not an IG function, but a roleplay decision made between the Palestra and Faendryl.

Traveling far and wide about the lands, I have found four candidates that may perhaps be worthy of entering the ranks of the Palestra. Arku, Durakar, Aurach and Noira have been recommended by numerous Faendryl. Their presence is requested on the eleventh and twelfth days of this month at nine elven time at the embassy in Ta’Illistim. These candidates will be asked to complete a series of challenges. All Faendryl are invited to watch the trials.

Subject: Welcome New Blades and Sarissa and some thank yous!

Tonight Master Jahosk of Mahkra Academy accepted four new Palestra. They are known as Blade Arku, Blade Durakar, Blade Aurach, and Sarissa Noira. They have worked hard and have used this opportunity to show their RP skill. It was amazing to watch them in action over the last few weeks. Excellent job to you four and all those Faendryl who came to watch. You really made my week. Also, these four are for hire!

Thank you to SGM Galene and Haliste for working through this project with me as well as APM Liia. GM Scribes, GM Flannihan, and GM Mariath for their help with QC on the new area, and document and for ideas on the document.

Pausing in a shadowed recess in the halls of the Basilica, two figures lean close in whisper.

“Ambassador, it would see we have a problem in the outworld.”

“I have just heard Magistrate. It seems I am needed in Ta’Illistim once again. I knew this experiment of wandering Palestra was a mistake. But the Patriarch would have his way, All honor and glory.”

“Ambassador, they will bring us to battle with the Vaalorians, and that is something the Patriarch does not want.”

“I will speak with the Wanderers, Magistrate and discover the answers to these issues. In the meantime, I have a charge for them. They are to report directly to me their findings on the demons that attack. I have checked the place where they were commanded to leave missives, and there is nothing. Hopefully this guidance from the Basilica will give them direction."

“We trust you to handle this situation Ambassador. All honor and glory to the Patriarch.”

“Honor and glory to the Patriarch,”

The two figures move off in opposite directions. Their brief exchange noticed by another in the shadows.

Pacing back and forth the Faendryl mutters to herself. She pauses every few steps as she reads over the parchment in her hands again and again.

“Bring the Palestra and their chosen?“

Gazing out the window into the night sky, the she reads the document once more.

“Has this experiment done so well that we wish more of them? Now they wish to allow each to present a chosen? A new apprentice for trial?”

Closing her eyes, she whispers, “I do your will.”

Sitting at her desk, the Blade begins to write.

I would suggest if a character ever wishes to become one, they should seek out one of the current Palestra and make it a key point of their Rp. Ask to train with them, similar to a squire working with a knight. I know of at least one character working on such rp.

Each Palestra is invited to present their apprentices for trials and there is the opportunity for the one Sarissa to retrial if she chooses.

I also did some refining after the first trials, so I am really excited to do this again.

The arena areas of NTF will be open to all Faendryl who wish to attend.

I totally understand your concerns and hope to clarify here if I can and maybe alleviate some of them.

I am working on events where Faendryl have a chance to meet with the current Palestra. Three are active out of the original 4 and the fourth has already written to me about an apprentice if not for this time, for the future. So I feel this is moving in the right direction. One has asked to take on two apprentices, which was fine with me after observing the rp involved.

I agree, I should not have used the knight analogy, it was bad form in hindsight and I do apologize for it. I should have kept it to ooc places if I was going to use it.

I do not plan on the next trials being 2 years away. I am looking for it to be a regular event. I also saw a need for the current Palestra to have something to do besides wearing a pretty title. There will be at least monthly events where we do a discussion about something Palestra and then go explore some hunting area or work on skills etc. This gives the Palestra and other Faendryl a chance to talk and get to know each other better to facilitate a natural progression leading to apprentice.


I am also watching how the apprentice process goes and will help and make tweaks, encourage, etc... as needed.

The apprentice titles are a great idea, and I will look into something for future apprentices so they have something to show while they are striving for their trials.

So, I do understand the issues you present, and I hope maybe some of the above helps a bit, even if we may not agree on all of it, but for this round I am going to stick to the original plan and keep them to the apprentices. But I am also going to make sure that there are events where Palestra can meet with those aspiring to be one to help begin the rp between Palestra and apprentice. I would also encourage any Faendryl to send a note to, or seek out in game, the Palestra if you support someone working with them as an apprentice.

I think and hope that what we will have going forward will be something that will foster rp for those who truly wish to take the path to Palestra.

Please feel free to send me any other ideas, comments etc. I am always working to move forward and to improve. Your ideas, or pointing out something that is terrible, does help.

As with the first trials, they need to be trained in a weapon to the extent their profession allows.

  • Palestra are warriors first. Your character must be max trained in a weapon, not a runestaff (for your level) and be a someone who primarily fights with a weapon.*

I had not planned on my Blade taking part like this, and she will not recommend anyone who is not really ready at this time. While she was tasked with these wanderers, she is not totally on board with this "experiment", and there is no way she will compromise her honor with a poor candidate. (I hope some of her IC posts have given that impression. Many in NTF think them a novelty and a bad idea). This is all IC for her! (not my personal feelings)

But, if I can be around during hours where others cannot, maybe I can help those people get involved. At the very least she will talk with anyone who wants to talk to her and introduce them to other Palestra. She will not be taking apprentices, she feels all the wandering Palestra are her apprentices in a way, but if she finds someone who was of the caliber of the first group, she may decide to recommend them.

As I said before, this is not a perfect system, and I am not perfect myself. I learn from you, the players, every day. This round has opened my eyes to somethings I did not think of or plan for, so I will be going back to the drawing board and reworking some of my Palestra ideas for the future.

So, for the next week I am going to focus on promoting Palestra RP and the trials. After that I am going to keep the Rp going throughout the year so there is no scramble, like this feels like, (one of the many areas I am learning from), for the next time.

Thank you all again for the positive ideas and discussion. The fact that everyone here is so passionate about their culture is wonderful. I will be popping some rp events up on the forums tonight. Some may be for everyone, some may be for Palestra and apprentices. All Faendryl are welcome at NTF for the trials and in the next few weeks for final ceremony.

Subject: Palestra Trials (Prime)

The arenas of New Ta'Faendryl will open for three days of Palestra trials. Each wandering Palestra may present their chosen candidate for trial.

Blade Schalyne Faendryl will be traveling about the lands during the first weeks of Imaerasta. She will be seeking out current Palestra who wish to present candidates for consideration. She also welcomes any without sponsorship who wish to train to come speak with her. She has been known to present her own candidates.


Candidates must be fully trained in a weapon as their primary means of combat, which does not include a runestaff. While Palestra can use magic, they are physical combatants, warriors, and fighters first.


Imaerasta 16th at 9 pm Elven (Friday Sept 16) ~ Formal reception held in Mahkra Academy with presentation of candidates. The presentation will include a demonstration of skills and proficiency with their chosen weapon. (This can be done with verbs, ACTS, weapon scripts, guild skills etc. Any way you can show off skill is acceptable.)

Imaerasta 17th at 8 pm Elven (Saturday Sept 17) ~ The Trials. This consists of a series of three battles against a candidate, Master, and finally a demon.

Imaerasta 18th at 9 pm Elven (Sunday Sept 18) ~ Closing Ceremony to conclude the trials and formally present the new members of the Palestra.

There will be a portal in the Faendryl Embassy in Ta'Illistim for all who wish to attend any of the events.
