The Dhu Gillywack airship introduced fill-able poison flaring weapons from either the initial run back in 5101 (2001) or 5104 (2004). This page will help layout any useful information about the weapons that are known. There are a couple other versions of poison weapons out there, this page only covers weapons/poisons from the Dhu Gillywack airship.

Verbs

Verbs Used with the weapons
Verb Description Other Notes
LOOK at <weapon> A small stud is imbedded into the base of the <weapon>. No poison is on the blade.
LOOK at <weapon> A small stud is imbedded into the base of the vultite falcata. The vultite falcata is covered in foul-smelling murky umber oil. Poison is on the blade, ready to use
MEASURE <weapon> Glancing carefully at the falcata, you see it has nothing contained within. Measure doses held, this shows there are none
MEASURE <weapon> Glancing carefully at the falcata, you see it has X doses remaining within. Measure doses held, this shows there are X number remaining
TOUCH <weapon> The reservoir on your vultite falcata is empty! Used to apply a dose of poison to the blade, but the weapon is empty of doses
TOUCH <weapon> As you touch a stud on the base of your <weapon>, drops of an oily greenish-black fluid run down to its sweet spot and a harsh smelling smoke rolls off of it. Message you see when poison is applied to the weapon's blade.
POUR <container> on <weapon> You carefully unscrew the cap at the base of your <weapon> and tip the bottle into the end.  The rancid smell of rotten eggs reaches your nose as you carefully fill the reservoir.

The ampule turns into ooze which flows onto the ground and smokes for a moment before fading away.

Message you see when pouring poison container into your weapon

Below is a table listing all known poison vial containers (there could be more, this is all I was able to find). Poison strength is listed, if known:

Poison Vial Containers
Container Doses Strength Origination
a gleaming crystalline phial 10* Unknown Dhu Gillywack
a quaint brass bottle 10* Unknown Dhu Gillywack
a red crystalline flask 10* Unknown Dhu Gillywack
a white birch cask 10* Unknown Dhu Gillywack
a shiny platinum vial 10 Unknown Dhu Gillywack
a jet skull-painted vial 20 Strongest Landing Park**
a gold-swirled scarlet phial 10 Strongest Landing Park**
a matte cloudy grey ampule 10 High Landing Park***
a deep violet crystalline flask 20 Medium Landing Park**
a slender brass vial 10 Medium Landing Park**
a bright pink heart-shaped flask 10 Weak Landing Park**
a pale lemon-hued vial 10 Weakest Landing Park**

*Dose number is best best guess based on "a shiny platinum vial" that holds 10 doses

**These poison containers were sold back in 2017 from a cart in the Park.

Poison Strength and Duration

The strength of the poison will vary in the amount of damage the poison will tick every 30 seconds. From testing various strengths from weak to strongest the amount the poison damage can do can be anywhere from a few points of damage (weak strength) to 75 (strongest).

The duration of damage happens every 30 seconds - just like when you normally get poisoned from a creature's attack or perhaps when you poke your finger when out foraging. The poison will dissipate overtime and how much it dissipates varies. It could dissipate a couple of points every 30 second pulse or it could fully dissipate. For example the poison could be 40 damage a pulse and dissipate by 40; this means that one pulse and the poison has left the body. Or the poison could be 40 damage a pulse and dissipate at 5 per.

Flares

  • When the weapon flares and the poison is applied to the target, the attacker should see this message after a flare message appears (see table below):

Some murky oil drips from your <weapon>.

  • When the flares do trigger they do not do any initial damage. They only apply poison to the target. The poison applied to the target functions like getting poisoned from creature attacks or foraging and triggers every 30 seconds.
  • When the poison on the blade runs out you'll see this message at the start of your combat:

You notice that the <weapon> is no longer poisoned.

  • From testing it does not appear that the flare messages play any role in determining how much poison damage is applied to the target nor how fast the poison dissipates

**Drops of oily residue fly from your <weapon>, drenching Xxxxx! **

  **Xxxxx claws at his eyes!**

** Afflicted by your vultite falcata, Xxxxx reels as the  poison does its work! ** This message doesn't actually apply poison,

but may use a flare charge

There are grammatical issues in some of the flare messages.

Other Information

  • A dose of poison, if memory serves me right, should give 10 flares of poison against your targets, but recent testing I've gotten only 7 or 8 actual flares to trigger poison on a test subject. One of the flare messages appears to indicate the target has been poisoned, but no poison is actually applied to the target. I've also seen another message with using the weapon:

A careless movement exposes you to the poison tainting your <weapon>, and you feel the malign substance tingling on your skin just before it takes effect!

Regardless of this message, the user of the weapon does NOT get poisoned. I do not know if the above message results in the use of a poison flare or not. There is no way to determine how many flares are left on the current application of poison on the blade.

  • Once a target is poisoned, the weapon will not flare again against the same target until the original poison on them has dissipated or has been removed by the unpoison spell.
  • If the blade of the weapon is actually coated in poison or not, the weapon will still flare. When this happens no poison is applied to the target, but they will see, when using the HEALTH verb, they are poisoned for 0 damage and it is dissipating at 0 per. The only usefulness these flares hold is that the flare message that puts the target prone will still put the target prone.
  • The weapon flare appears to flare about as much as any standard flare, roughly 1 in 5 swings will result in a flare.
  • The weapons can be enchanted, but ONLY if the weapon is completely empty of poison. This means no poison on the blade an no poison doses are held in the weapon when you MEASURE it. I do not know if other player services can be added to the weapons, I have not tried, but if they can it would be assumed the same would apply that the weapon be void of any poison before it is possible.

Conclusion

At best, these weapons are unique. However, in their current state, they are fundamentally broken from some of the flare messages not actually applying poison, from the randomness of the amount of flares you get from a dose of poison, from the slow damage over time it takes the poison to trigger (30 seconds is too long, you'll have killed the target way before the poison ever has a chance to trigger) to the grammatical issues in some of the flare messages.

The only glowing upside to using the weapons is that one of the flares gives a guaranteed knock down of the target, but based on the fact that the flare messages are random and that there are 7 different flare messages, you cannot rely on the knockdown flare to be a reliable reason to use the weapon.
