The AI Crystal is an object with which player characters can interact to obtain information about items (similar to the bardic loresong ability). To use the crystal, hold the item of inquiry in your character's left hand and TOUCH the crystal.

Enchantment

Enchantment Table
Color Bonus
Red +1 to +5
Orange +6 to +10
Yellow +11 to +15
Green +16 to +20
Blue +21 to +25
Indigo +26 to +30
Violet > +30

One function of the AI Crystal is to reveal the level of enchantment of weapons or armor. The crystal will respond to enchantment by shooting a beam of light toward the ceiling (1x, 2x, etc). For items of successively increasing enchantment, the beam of light progresses in color according to the colors of the rainbow. The log below indicates that the item carries a bonus between +16 and +20 inclusive (4x enchantment):

>touch crystal
You touch the crystal with one hand, your green armor in the other hand. Tiny sparks of brilliant golden light dance across your armor. A green beam shoots up from your green armor toward the ceiling.

Other Properties

The crystal will also reveal special abilities of weapons and armor (such as weighting or padding). The messaging will differ depending upon what type of item is being examined. The log below shows that the armor in question has critical padding:

>touch crystal
You touch the crystal with one hand, your scale armor in the other hand. Tiny sparks of brilliant golden light dance across your armor. A green beam shoots up from your scale armor toward the ceiling. A low resonant note sounds, echoing through the room.
